GREETINGS AND SHORT-SELF INTRODUCTION

 

Hello, good evening and welcome everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dan.

 

I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come and celebrate with both families. It feels like only yesterday, Mark came into our lives and his birth threw our entire family into a joyful celebration.

 

Now, here he is all grown up and about to start life with Amanda.

 

Growing up, Mark was a very determined person. I remember back when he was sent to the Middle East for peacekeeping missions, he went through struggles, difficulties, challenges, and several heartbreaking adversities and that was just enough to make him lose hope

 

But those experiences strengthened his resolve and brought out the best in him when the time was right. When he came back home, we could hardly recognize our son as he had visible scars all over his body and we thought we would never find true love.

I remember his mom saying to me when he was discharged from the hospital. Dan, do you ever think someone other us can love him the way we do. That broke my heart and all through the night, I wept like a little baby.

 

Though it was quite tough when he got back home, he believed that his future would be so bright!

 

Thanks to the loving support, care, and encouragement from family and friends, his faith in God, hard work, and determination, he got back on his feet much faster than we thought possible and he began to function as we knew him for.

 

Two years ago, we celebrated his birthday and after singing for him, he grabbed the microphone and exclaimed: Hello everyone, thank you for putting a smile on my face, but I have a surprise for you all.

I was sitting close to his mom and he held my hands and quizzed: My son loves you just like his dad and tells you the deep secrets of his heart. Do you have a clue? No, I said. But she still didn’t believe me.

 

Well, Dan asked us to close our eyes and when we opened them, we saw him sitting next to this beautiful lady. Then, he added: Can you thank this precious lady for me everybody? She was my backbone when I went through all that? I am sure God has brought us together for a purpose.

 

At that moment, his mom and dad broke down in tears of joy, thankful that their son had found the love of their life and I almost fell of my chair. It felt like a dream.

 

Looking back, I can confidently say we’re so proud of him and thus far he’s come. God’s amazing grace and blessing have brought him thus far. As his uncle, he continually inspires me with his strong work ethic and quiet perseverance.

 

Mark, Amanda loves you just as we do and we are sure she will stand by you all the days of your life. Your life has become so beautiful ever since she walked into your life.

 

Amanda, thanks for loving him through thick and thin and I must say you are the best gift of his life and ours as well. He’s our only son and we know you will take good care of him well since you’re a very loving person. You’re honest, god-fearing, loving, caring, a good cook and we are confident that you’ll be a good wife and mom!

 

Mark and Amanda, choosing to build your lives together is the wisest decision any young people can make.

Well, you can begin your intro with a story, song, or any other quotes on love but make sure what you go for is always in sync with your theme.

 

Let’s look at the body at this point. Here are some excerpts so you can follow the story.

• Afterward, you can talk about their choice of spouse and welcome him or her into your family...don't forget to thank the bride or groom’s family for their love and support

Don’t Take This For Granted

Many speakers don’t end well and that breaks my heart. If we go back to our example, we’d find this:

I know you might want to know if there’s something wrong with that….far from it but there are other clever ways of making your concluding remarks memorable….How?

 

1. What if you could sing to the beat of a well-known song?
2. What if you end with a proverb on love?

 

As an example, let’s look closely at these proverbs on love….

• There is no cure for love other than marriage." —Irish proverb
• Nothing is impossible for a willing heart." —French proverb
• Love has to be shown by deeds, not words." —Swahili proverb
• "It is love that makes the impossible, possible." —Indian proverb
• Lover's hearts are linked together and always beat as one."  —Chinese proverb
• The heart that loves is always young." —Greek proverb

 

I love examples because they make our lives much easier and I’d like to show you how you can use at least one of those proverbs to conclude your speech

 

This touched my heart so I am going for it: "It is love that makes the impossible, possible." —Indian proverb
