I think if you keep your spirits high and your expectations low, everyone will be happy!! As Gareth just said I'm Ashlee and I'm the best man today. I hope your all, enjoying this wonderful wedding celebration today. I know I will once this is over!!

 

I would like to echo what has already been said and compliment our beautiful bride. I must say that Gemma looks absolutely beautiful today. Gareth is one very lucky man. Surprisingly, Gareth has scrubbed up quite well himself, even if he did copy my outfit…

 

Can I just give a special mention to our two bridesmaids Kelly & Angelina for helping to get Gemma here today? I am reliably informed that when she woke up this morning and realized she was marrying Gareth she put up a struggle so well done girls…You all so look fantastic 

I would also like to thank both sets of parents, Mari & Martin and Julie who have shown great support to the happy couple in the build-up to this special day. You have played an in portent role on this momentous occasion. Thank you

 

Let us not forget our Ushers for the day, Michele & Christian. I know Gareth was worried about them not being up to such an important task, however after weeks of practicing and a bout of repetitive strain disorder, I am sure you all agree they more than excelled there selves at pointing at chairs today…well done boys 

 

I'd all so like to say a big thank you to mine and Gareth's beautiful children. Noah & Kiki. They have been amazing today…and we are Very proud parents, I can't believe we are at this point in our lives and celebrating their wedding, I was once told that you never truly find out what happiness is until you get married… and then it's too late!

 

When Gareth asked me to be his best man, naturally I had many questions. What had I done to deserve such an honour? Who had dropped out? Was I really the best he could come up with? Could I turn the job down and still expect an invitation to stuff myself and get drunk at his expense?

 

In the end, having accepted the role, I'm pretty happy with the way things went today. From a best man's perspective, everything went smoothly. For starters, I got him to the venue on time, He also arrived sober, an achievement which shouldn't be underestimated with his track record… And most importantly in this time of economic uncertainty, I successfully resisted the urge to post the wedding rings to Cash for Gold and do a runner. So well done me…

 

Gareth is equally impressed, he told me earlier I have done that good a job I have got the gig for his next wedding, which was nice of him…

So…Some of you may look at Gareth sitting here today and think ‘hasn't that lad done well for himself?’

 

He has married the woman of his dreams, has a good career, but how he still works in travel is Beyond me, when  he first started out in travel house  he Had a bit of confusion pronouncing places, let me give you a few  examples. Lesboss.… The correct term is Lesbos, another one was port of Tourette's, in Ibiza… rally place was port of torrent and how about this one…indianopcilops.… In America To you or me it's Indianapolis

Gareth also gave me strict instructions not to talk about certain things.

So There's no way I was allowed to talk about the time he got so badly burnt in Ibiza it took the contents of the girls make up bags to  make him look normal again and not forgetting the time he took enough Imodium to plug up India…oh sorry got that wrong that was Gemma.

 

And there's absolutely no way I was allowed to tell you  about  The time  we got attacked and had to run home from the kebabs shop but  he still managed to save his burger but had to go to the hospital with concussion the next morning.

Or the time a friendly stranger gave him somewhere to stay in Cardiff after missing the last train only to realise they weren't that friendly hence their tooth brush doing a lap of the toilet bowl. 

 

And there's Absolutely no way I can tell you about the holiday he took to Mexico  where he was caught trying to smuggle fifteen Cartons of fags through customs, and ended up getting very well acquainted with one of the customs officers

So what else I can I tell you about Gareth  It's traditional to dish the dirt on the groom's past girlfriends during the best man's speech… but I'm not going to do that. For a start, I think it's wrong – cheap, and tacky. Secondly, how would it make sweet, innocent Gemma feel, having the reputation of the man she loves dragged through the filth of his former sordid little conquests..?

 

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, Gareth's never actually had a girlfriend before Gemma, so there's really very little dirt to dish. Not that he didn't try to meet girls, of course – there were years and years of wasting his time on Dodgy pickup lines …speed dating.…

And he even Tried Internet chat rooms but in the end he did meet someone, and that someone was Gemma, and she was rite under His nose the whole time, It started off as friends and then best friends and then blossomed into a wonderful relationship.

 

I have known Gareth for many years and feel I know him better than most people. I can honestly say I have never seen him happier than when he is with Gemma. I am so pleased that he has found such a wonderful person who he can spend the rest of his life with.

 

Gareth has been a great friend to me and we've had some excellent times together and I'm sure we'll have more in the future and it's been a Privilege to be his best man today.

 

You will be happy to know that we are coming to the end of the speeches. I can tell that everybody is having a great time here today and this is mainly down to the weeks and months of planning by Gareth and Gemma. They have done an incredible job to make it such a special day.

I will end with a quote for all you romantics out there.

Good afternoon. Thank you all for attending this special occasion in honor of Ross and Nicola. First, on behalf of the Maid of Honor and bridesmaids, thank you Ross for your kind words. Just to echo what Ross, has already said, I would like to say that the bridesmaids are looking absolutely stunning and are only outshone, and quite rightly so, by Nicola who I'm sure you'll all agree is looking sensational.

 

I'd also like to pass on an extra special thanks to the bridesmaids for getting Nicola to the church today – I understand she put up quite a fight!

I’m sure you'll all agree that the wedding was beautiful and the entire wedding party did an amazing job! SO, before I begin my assassination of Ross's character, I would just like to thank ushers, Bob, Dave and Johnny, the Minister, florists, photographers, caterers, and everyone else involved for your hard work in making this day a huge success!

 

No doubt by now most of you know me as Fraser, however my full name is actually “Fraser would you like a drink!”, so I'd appreciate if you could use this when you come to say hello later on. Now, as you all know, I'm Ross's best man and I'd like to start by thanking Ross for asking me to be part of this special day.

I know they've both put a tremendous amount of effort into the planning of this wedding, especially Nicola, and I can only hope that, apart from this speech, everything else will have exceeded their expectations.– I can only say in my defence that being Ross's younger brother he has played a large part in developing my sense of humour, so if this speech is disappointing, then please feel free to blame Ross!!

 

Now no body ever pays the groom a compliment, so Ross, I'd like to say you're looking quite dashing today and the lion tamers at Tony and Guy have done a great job of styling the wild beast that is your hair. As you all know, marriage is for better or for worse, which is quite appropriate as Ross couldn't have done any better and Nicola couldn't have done any worse.

 

No really, Ross has done very well for himself marrying a great girl like Nicola- I mean, you should have seen some his last girlfriend- dogs- all of them, PIG UGLY.pause, Although may I say, how delighted we are to have so many of them here today!

 

Right, well the first thing a best man is supposed to do is to tell witty anecdotes about the groom, to let the bride’s family discover what type of man their daughter has just married. Now, after having a long think about this I discovered that nothing funny has ever happened to Ross.

 

Well, what I mean by that is that all his funny stories fall into the “unsuitable category” which I can’t discuss on his wedding day.… I mean, it would be highly inappropriate if I told you about the time Ross was on rugby tour, and after drinking too much cider, opened the window of his 3rd floor room and was sick- all over my father who was standing 40ft below!!!

And I also can’t talk about the time Ross phoned mum at 6am in the morning from America to announce that he was locked up in Jail in South Carolina and needed his mummy to pay his bail– but really, I can’t get into that one, all I can say is that it in an offence to urinate in the streets of America!!

 

Now, anyway, as I said, I can talk about any of that. So, you're probably all still wondering what type of person Ross is?? Well, the words the words funny, caring, generous and handsome come to mind….he's a decent bloke.

 

However, BE WARNED!.. Ross HENDERSON is not a forgiving person . Everyone may find this a bit of a shock but Ross still holds a grudge for something I did when I was 4 years old which very almost resulted in me not being his best man today . Now, I don't remember this, but Ross claims that I took his model “Dukes of Hazzard” car- General Lee- which was his prized possession, and that I smashed it to bits with a hammer.

 

Now, Ross still gives me a hard time about this, and I really don't want him to hold this grudge against me for the rest of our lives, so Ross, I would like to present you with this .… A brand new, General Lee which I hope you and Nicola pass on to your son one day . I just hope for his sake that he doesn't ever damage it , otherwise, I've got a feeling you'll be putting him up for adoption !

Now, I can see you're all getting hungry so Im going to start wrapping this up. Before I sit down though I need to read out one very important message from some people who couldn't be here today.

Now Ross, I know you won’t be wanting me to read this one in front of your new wife, but I promised Crystal and the other girls that I would, so here goes:

“Ross, We hope you still visit us every week and wish you all the best in your marriage. With Lots of Love, The Girls at Sandys Sauna and Massage Parlour in Glasgow” – I think you've got some explaining to do Ross!!!

 

Finally, some advice for the groom: now, this should be easy for you to remember : married life can be compared to football. All you need to do is be fully committed every week, and make sure you score every weekend. Also, remember playing away from home WILL result in Nicola putting you on the transfer market.

 

Ladies and Gentlemen, it gives me immense pleasure to invite you all to be upstanding, raise your glasses and join me in a toast to Ross and Nicola. May your love be modern enough to survive the times, but old fashioned enough to last forever,

Like every writing piece out there, you can infer from both write-ups that both examples have three basic compositions:

• Your opening or introductory remarks
• The body or outline or structure of your groom wedding toast
• The ending or concluding remarks

Beginning with the introductory remarks, we are going to look at each point one step at a time.

First; your introductory remarks. Your introductory or opening lines is more like your words on your first date. On a first date, you definitely have to put a great deal of thought into what you say so that you come across as someone who is witty and fun to be around.

Again, if you want to make a good first impression on your first date, you might want to tell stories that can make that initial experience very interesting.

So it is with your opening lines. Right off the bat, it should be engaging, entertaining, and unique so that the wedding audience will crave for more.

It is not uncommon for best men to start their speeches in this manner:

‘’Good afternoon. Thank you all for attending this special occasion in honor of Ross and Nicola. First, on behalf of the Maid of Honor and bridesmaids, thank you Ross for your kind words. Just to echo what Ross, has already said, I would like to say that the bridesmaids ….’’

While that falls in line with wedding etiquette, there are also varied ways to kick your speech off on a very happy note.

 

Before we dive into that, I have this mini-assignment for you. I would like you to jot down names of these individuals.

• The bridesmaid or maid of honor
• The groomsmen or other best men
• The name of the groom
• The mom and dad of the groom(this applies if you are the groom’s brother)

You’ve done that, right? Now, what do you want to tell each of those personalities? Taking inspiration from that short extract or the opening lines of both examples, just write down a first draft for your introduction.

 

Having seen that; let’s look at how to start your speech with a bang.

First, if you have an amazing voice, you can imitate what this guy did by starting off with a well-known song and everyone will join in singing it. Whatever song you go for, just make sure it’s fun and very easy to sing along to.

 

Second, you can start on a romantic or emotional note. For this to work, you need to weave in at least a love or marriage or even a friendship quote.

Here are three examples you can slot into your script.

• ‘’ Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle’’- Sam Levenson
• “A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short.” – Andre Marois

 

Third, just start with a story if you really don’t know how to start. This approach works all the time because we all love good stories.

How to Write the Body or Outline of Your Groom Wedding Toast

When you get to the heart of both stories, you will realize that the body of the speech centers on your friendship with the groom.

As you know by now, I am an action taker, so let’s try to put something together about your relationship with the groom. 

Here are some questions to help you get out your best ideas onto that sheet of paper.

• When did you first meet the groom? Write down your thoughts here…. (If you are the older brother of the groom, you might want to consider putting down your thoughts about how you felt when he was born.
• What were initial impression(s) when you first met him?
• Do you recall fun and fond memories of the time you’ve spent together? On Vacation? At Sports Events? Weddings? Etc.
• When did you first hear about the bride?
• How has he become a much better person since his wife came into his life?

 

Writing your answers next to each question ensures that you have some content to help you write down a few ideas about your bonds of friendship.  So, just reflect and jot down a few things you recall about the great times you’ve had together.

 

Finally, let’s look at…

How To Use Best Man Speech Templates To Write Your Closing Remarks

Let’s figure it out by taking cues from both examples:

Here’s the conclusion of the first example:

Those remarks give an indication of how to wrap your speech. But there are of course several ideas that can help you end with a bang as well.

First, if you can actually write a simple advice and then turn into a song everyone can sing along to, then your toast will be an unforgettable experience.

 

Second, if this is Christian wedding, you can end your tribute with a prayer or a few words words of wisdom from the bible.

 

Third, you may end by dedicating to the couple a poem about love.

I know from personal experience that it’s a difficult task choosing a best man, I’m still not sure about my choice four years on eh Steve?! But with Steve, like most things in life, it became more difficult as time went on – his first choice was his funniest friend but unfortunately he said no, so then he thought he’d choose his cleverest friend but again, unfortunately the offer was declined.

 

At the third attempt he turned to his most handsome friend but sadly it was a no yet again and at this point as you can imagine Steve was getting pretty desperate – that’s when my phone rang! And, to be honest, hearing Steve’s quivering little voice on the phone I decided I couldn’t possibly turn him down for a fourth time!

 

As part of my job today I get the task of saying a few words about today’s main man – I can honestly say that he’s one of the most handsome, most funny men you’ll ever meet and I’m proud to call him my friend. So if you if bump into him today – where’s Lloyd? Today is his birthday so please buy him a drink – happy birthday Lloyd!

 

Now, I was asked by Steve and Laura to be careful with any content that may be a little risqué and, in particular, remove any innuendos – so I just wanted to reassure you both that I’ve been through it carefully and vetted it but if I do come across anything I’ve missed I’ll whip it out as quickly as I can!

 

In all seriousness I’ve known Steve now for around 18 years since I interviewed him for a job as a 16/17 year old – he turned up late, with the very popular ‘curtain’ hairstyle, proudly wearing his Arsenal tie and he somehow managed to convince me that I’d found a gem. I’d like to point out that several times over the first few years I was given the opportunity by the HR department to get rid of him, but somehow those eyes were still convincing me otherwise.

 

Now because most of the stories I could tell about Steve over the years would no doubt incriminate myself, again I decided to be careful about what I would say – so I definitely won’t be telling you about the times he used his ‘one phone call’ to tell me he couldn’t make it to work, I definitely won’t be telling you about his love of urinating in public places when under the influence (in particular on my neighbour’s car!) and I definitely won’t tell you about the time I got a call from head office to say that Steve had some charges for extras against his room whilst away on a training course – he swore blind, as he does when under pressure, that it was for a cigar but it wasn’t for him.

 

If I’m honest the cigar sounded a little pricey at 20 quid – I’ll leave it up to you to decide what you think he thought would make his stay away from home a little more exciting!

So you can tell by looking at Steve that not a lot has changed really – although unlike most people he’s actually lost weight over the years I’ve known him, quite a lot to lose at one point as I recall Steve?! And over those years I think it’s fair to say we’ve got into a few scrapes and one way or another we’ve always been there for each other when things have been tough – I’m proud to call you my friend and long may it continue!

 

Now, despite what I said before things have definitely changed for him since he got together with Laura 5 years ago, particularly over the last 18 months when their daughter came along – he’s a brilliant Dad and I’m sure that he’ll be a brilliant husband too!

I’m also impressed that he’s chosen to whisk Laura away on honeymoon in the UK – North Wales isn’t it Steve?…oh ok, I obviously got confused when he said he was going to Bangor for two weeks after the wedding!

 

I could honestly stand here and take the mick out of Steve all day long but I could definitely do with a beer now – although I do just want to impart one last bit of wisdom on you Steve… so, if Laura could just place her hand on the table, palm down… etc.

How does that feel Steve? I can personally guarantee you that will be the last time you ever have the upper hand so make the most of it while you can!

 

On behalf of the bridesmaids, Claire and Isla, I would like to thank Steve & Laura for asking us to be a part of your special day – I genuinely hope, and I know that you will be very happy together, please look after him Laura because he struggles to look after himself at times!

Short Best Man Speech For a Brother

Hello everyone… one second! Rock, paper, scissors.

I guess I'm going first then!  Wow what a great couple of speeches we have just heard. Well done to Steve and Paul.

So… introductions! My name is Chris and for those of you who don't know me I'm Steve's long suffering older Brother. First things first, I would just like to draw your attention to the 5 full shot glasses in front of Steve, this is because Steve has a big mouth and can't help getting involved.

This is a preventative measure to ensure this doesn't happen. If Steve interjects at any point then his forfeit is to ‘do a shot’.  Claire I apologise if this effects ‘later on’, but needs must!

 

But before I start with the customary duty of giving Steve an uncomfortable few minutes, it is part of the official duty of one of the best men to thank the father of the Bride Paul on behalf of the bridesmaids for his kind words, a for having them play a part in this special day. I have to say they all look wonderful and have done an excellent job.  And the ushers – what good looking chaps they are, they must have great parentage!

 

Indeed the bridesmaids are only eclipsed by Claire herself, who, I'm sure you'll all agree looks absolutely stunning. Now I did ask for a microphone for this speech but was told one was not available. So if you struggle to hear me at the back, the silence from the front should reassure you that you are not missing out on anything!

 

I would like to start by talking about Steve's early love life!!  Now before any of you think this is a big NONO at a wedding.  I have cleared it with Clare a she is fine with it.  At Junior School Steve was ‘desperate’ for a girlfriend so would ask pretty much the whole school to go out with him every day. 

 

Until one fateful day a girl said yes: Shelley Elson was her name, Steve was instantly besotted. Being 8 and in love every time we went anywhere, on holiday, day trips away.… He would have to bring Shelley back a prezzie! 

 

This went on for about 2 months, until one day Shelley got tired of this over affection and dumped him at school by bringing everything he had ever bought her and Dumping it in the middle of the school playground. (Pause to see if Steve interjects!)  I bring this up today because I just want to let you know Steve that the staffs have been warned not to group the presents in a big pile. 

 

In case you have a panic attack!  I would like to add though, Clare, that this did make Steve put up a bit of a guard in future relationships but you have well and truly smashed that down!  So well done to you Clare, you now have a completely besotted wet blanket as a husband.

 

I knew Clare's Effect on Steve was instant because we actually met her!!  Not only met her, but within 2 weeks of them going out he couldn't wait to show his beautiful girlfriend off, and also couldn't help mentioning her age to all his mates several times, I think the only time he was kept quiet, but only for a couple of seconds was when I worked out that Clare was closer in age to my first born Olivia than himself.

 

But of course  I would like to point out though that age is but a number and Clare you are so much more mature than my little brother ever will be, and have domesticated him beyond mine and Helens’ imagination. 

The amount of times Helen and I would be watching x factor or some other sat night dross.  Our minds would wander after a glass of vino or two a I would say something like.  ‘When is Steve gonna (sing in style of boy zone)” find a girl settle down when is he gonna marry” ‘  then Helen would normally rudely interrupt by saying ‘Fi a GIRL are you sure?!!’  Anyway I digress a Helen you owe me a tenner!

 

Anybody that knows Steve will also know how much of a show off he is, Clare I seriously don't know how you manage to live with his constant need for messing around.  I remember on the return from my stag do to Budapest in 2007 I nearly thanked Steve for such a great stag do and nearly wished HIM good luck with HIS wedding he took over it so much. To be honest though Steve, I have never minded that one bit. I used to try and compete with you, but as hard as it is to admit as a big brother, you have always been light years ahead of me on entertainment. 

 

You make fries wherever you go.  You have that charisma and likability that escapes most people. You are a great listener (believe it or not). You have always been there for Mum and I, and a whole host of others, including most importantly the beautiful lady by your side today. 

From the two of yours ingenious ‘pitch black hide and seek games’ to your catching each other out, Clare's Gym drive springs to mind! To your travelling around the globe on amazing holidays, you 2 are made for each other.  And I am looking forward to seeing what other big life memories you can make together.

 

Now that was all far too mushy a sincere so I would like, before I end today, a pass you over to the 2 best man Nathan!! I would like to ask a question. Did anybody know that Steve is a rapper??

 

Well he is! Now people this is before Eminem, Snow even Vanilla Ice, yes Steve was busting lyrics back in the day before any of them, going under the pseudonym ‘Stylish Steve’, the rap itself went something like ‘I was walking down the street one day a then I saw a toad’, then something about the toad going on the road.  Lyrical genius, but the best bit was his sign off that he did after every rap, kind of like the rap version of jerry springer's final thought. 

 

Steve if you would like to stand up and give us that sign off as a fitting end for this speech.

“He's cool I'll second that, he's cool he's the king of the rap. Stylish Steve!”

Thanks everyone I think that sums him up.  He talks about himself in so many extra persons there, talk about loving yourself!!  But Claire I know his ego moved over big time when you walked into his life. 

Congratulations to you both, Steve it has been an honour being one of your best men.  Love you brother, and Love you Claire, welcome to the family!

 

I don’t know about you. But, I really like the second example because it sounds authentic and funny. At this point, you might be wondering how both writers came up with both funny groom speeches. You can also make it without trying so hard if you just follow this fail-proof idea.

 

The trick is to first figure out the foundation on which both templates reside. Reading through  both thoroughly gives an indication of its structure (which are both similar in tone and content)

Now, your mini-assignment: How would you like to start your groom speech? Start with a song? How about a story about your friend or brother? Just write it down.

Comment: You can compliment him on choosing an amazing life partner.  Otherwise, you can change a rather embarrassing story into something funny.

 

Here’s an example:

Let’s try our hands on another mini-assignment: Do you have a few embarrassing stories you would like the wedding guests to know about your friend or brother?

Wait a minute…Do you mind clearing it with the bride and groom first? Whatever it is, just make sure you make the most out of those stories else your friend or brother will be deeply embarrassed.

 

Your assignment: Just write down a memory or two about the groom.

• Compliment the bride and groom together

 

Let’s first preview this snippet:

Here’s something you can ponder about: Grab your pen and notepad and write down how the couple complement each other. You can use that as a starting point to write about the bride and groom.

 

Now, let’s look at another idea:

• Thanking the bride and groom for including you in their wedding plans

Comment: I think you can easily pour your feelings into heart-felt words when you have to thank them for including you in their wedding and plans.

 

Let’s look at another tip…

• Thanking the bridesmaid and say a few nice words about them

 

Please see an example below:

‘’ Indeed the bridesmaids are only eclipsed by Claire herself, who, I'm sure you'll all agree looks absolutely stunning.‘’

 

Your mini-assignment: Please write down a few words of gratitude to the bridesmaid for their help and support and compliment them if you will.

• Thanking the groomsmen for supporting you and the groom throughout the wedding planning process

 

Comment: Write down their names and state why you are thanking them or simply say you are forever in their debt.

 

Finally, let’s look at what we’ve all been waiting for:

• Talk about your relationship with the groom

Having witnessed the groom go through life all these years, it can be hard to know what to add to your groom speech and what not to say because you have so many wonderful memories about him.

 

To make things a little bit easier, you just have to reflect and provide answers to these questions:

• How long have you known the groom?
• How and when did you meet him?(not applicable if you are the brother of the groom…you just have to say you are his younger or older brother)
• What has your friendship been like over the years?
• What are some fond memories you have about him
• How he’s gotten better since the bride came into his life?
• How has your brother or friend been a blessing in your own life?

 

Here, once again, is your mini-assignment: Can you use answers to those questions to write a rough first draft?  Just give it a try and let me know how it goes.

And speaking of Libby, I want to finally say a few words about her. You are my best friend (sorry Omar), my fearless and ruthless board game rival, and most importantly the mother of our cat. I remember just over four years ago you invited me and a couple of our good friends who are here today, out to Chumley's (a local bar) to watch the US play a World Cup match when they still made it to World Cups.

 

I don't remember who they played or if they won but I do remember I thoroughly enjoyed being with you and thought you might feel the same based on how much I was making you laugh despite not being particularly funny.  And thankfully you haven't gotten sick of me yet.

 

For those of you who don't know, Libby and I met as I was finishing up my graduate program.  She had just gotten her PhD in Scotland and was joining my advisor's lab as a post-doc.  So, I think this is also a perfect time to personally thank our advisor who is here tonight for being the person to bring Libby and me together. 

 

On top of everything else you've done for me – your hiring Libby had the most amazing impact on my life and I am eternally grateful.  I also got to be there for Libby's interview presentation for the job on Skype and it's funny to think back on that moment and not realize at that point that this was the woman I'd be spending the rest of my life with.

 

Libby, I am so happy to be able to live that life with you. Being the funny and beautiful person you are I couldn't be happier and I hope you are as excited to continue living our life taking too many pictures of our cat and trying as many foods as humanly possible – along with all the less important things.  So for the final time, let's stand and raise a glass to my wife, Libby.  TOAST.

 

 

That’s a great example, right? How would you grade this? I would give it a 7/10. That’s cool for a short groom wedding toast.

 

Before we analyze this great example, here are a few things you should take note of.  Written groom templates like the one we’ve read (above) are not the only ones you can find. There are several of such templates online.  However, if you are a visually-oriented person, then you might want to watch a few video clips about how amazing ones are made.

Oh…And by the way, the written piece should always complement the video clips. Whereas the former helps you to organize your thoughts and feelings into a very logical presentation, the latter puts you in the mood so you can get a fair idea of how groom wedding toasts are delivered.

 

Now, let’s get back to why we are here. When you scroll up this page and re-read that example carefully, you will realize that it has several interconnecting parts like a necklace. We writers call it the layout.

 

The first step in the writing process has to do with creating a layout or an outline for the content of your groom speech.

 

The outline gives you an idea of how to start, what to write for each section, and what to add and what not to add to your wedding toast.

 

At this point, I would like us to look at the outline of the template we are studying and how you can apply it to your writing style. Let’s look at it carefully.

• Greetings and self-introduction
• Thanking the bride’s family or mom and dad
• Thanking your own family or mom and dad
• Thanking the bridesmaid
• Expressing gratitude to your siblings
• Thanking your in-laws
• Showing appreciation to your bestman and groomsmen
• Talk about the bride in greater detail

 

Let’s take each bullet point and see how to develop writing ideas for each of them.

We are going to start with…

• Greetings and Short-Self Introduction

 

Here, you just have to mention your name and your relationship to the bride and thank everyone for coming. I am sure a toddler can even write those opening lines, right?

Here is an example that illustrates how it’s done.

‘’ Well the day has finally come and Libby and I want to start by thanking each and every one of you for being here. 

But honestly, it means the world that you could travel to celebrate with us. Whether you've come just down the road from Lough Neagh or Belfast, as far away as San Francisco…’’

 

I have this mini-assignment for you: Try coming up with your own example based on what you have just seen. You might want to make yours a little different by first thanking specific individuals for coming to your wedding.

 

Once, I wrote a speech for this guy who asked me to honor this 100 year old dad who had travelled a considerable distance to be at his grandson’s wedding. The moral? Just say a big thank you to everyone for coming from far and near to be with you and your wife. If certain persons like that centenarian have defied all odds to be there, you can publicly acknowledge them in your groom’s speech.

 

Let’s look at the next idea:

• Thanking the bride’s family or mom and dad

Is there anything else you wish to tell the bride’s mom and dad other than showing appreciation for allowing him to marry their daughter? You should compliment them, thank them for raising your wife, and tell them what you’ve learned from them (positive influences).

 

I still have this mini-assignment you can try hands on: In about a minute or two, please put down what you’d like to tell the bride’s parents.

 

We still have work to do. So, let’s look at another idea:

• Thanking your own family or mom and dad

You can write a book about how good your parents have been to ever since you landed on planet Earth, right? But, sorry, it might not be a best seller. All joking aside, when it comes to thanking them in a wedding speech, it’s always a great idea to make a general statement about how their love and continuous support have brought you thus far in your wife except you want to elaborate on a few things.

 

Don’t also forget to thank them for being there for you and the bride. If you were raised by your extended family(uncles, aunts, or grandparents) because your parents passed on growing up, then you have to pay a special tribute to them. The saying that it takes a village to raise and mold a child can’t be diluted in this instance.

Another idea is waiting for you:

• Thanking the bridesmaid or maid of honor

The bride will be happy with you and you might also make new female friends if you thank the maid of honor/bridesmaid for helping plan a memorable wedding. If you are loss for words, just compliment them.

 

Here’s a short example to help you say something about them.

The bridesmaids look lovely. I think we can all agree that you all look absolutely stunning today. They have been great for Amy. I know I can speak for her in saying how much she appreciates all the support you’ve given her

They have all been very helpful in one way or another to make our dreams coming true done throughout the many weeks of intense preparation. We will cherish your friendship forever.

 

I don’t think that’s too hard to write something close to that in your own words, right?

 

Let’s still keep flying in the air….Next idea please…

• Thank your siblings and in-laws too

I won’t touch on this because that’s something a toddler can even do.

 

Without further ado, let’s look at the next idea:

• Showing appreciation to your bestman and groomsmen

Do I need to educate you about how to thank your own friend or brother? I don’t think so. Well, I would like to do you a favor since I really love examples.

Here it is.

 

I want you to know that it meant the world to me that you were standing by my side as best man at my wedding. We’ve been childhood friends and I never knew we would get this far seeing where we found ourselves in life. Thank you for always being there for me like a dependable friend and an amazing best man. Amy and I are grateful for your rich counsel.

 

Finally, Let’s Look At What We’ve Been All Waiting For:

• Writing and Speaking about the bride(your wife-to-be)

Writing about the bride seems to be an easy task for most grooms. But with so many memories flying through your mind, things can get pretty tough when you begin to put your thoughts together because you might not even know where to start, how to start writing about her and what you hope to achieve together as you blend your lives together.

 

If you are stuck and looking for cool ideas to help you write this all-important part of your groom wedding speech about the bride, you can use this as a checklist to craft your toast.

 

Here are a few pointers I have picked up from the template to make it work for you. Just down answers to the following questions.

• How did you meet the bride?
• Do you have fun and fond memories you recall about your time together?
• What do you really love about her?
• How has she changed your life for the better?
• What are her beautiful qualities you wish to talk about?

This is a standard wedding etiquette and the easiest part of the speech to write. So, I won’t go into much detail at this time.

 

Writing Idea#2: Short-Self Introduction

Most fathers don’t do this due to the erroneous impression that the guests might know who they are. Even if you have been introduced by the emcee, you still should let everyone know who you are and your relationship to the bride and groom.

 

Here’s a brief example.

Hello everyone! I am Dan, Steve’s dad. I want to say that I’m very proud of him and Alice who I love like a daughter. They have put together a wonderful celebration today and rekindled our joy for living in these hard times. I want to thank them for bringing us together.

 

Writing Idea # 3: Thank your guests and other personalities

Simply thanking the guests for coming to celebrate with you endears you to your audience in many ways more than you can ever imagine. 

Your son has come thus far in life as a result of the contribution of family and friends and some other people. So it makes sense to show appreciation for being there for you over the years.

If you have a large family who played an immense role in your son’s life, then, you can jot down their names and express appreciation to them in whichever way you can.

 

Here’s an example by a father to his son’s mom for raising him when he wasn’t around.

 

Bernadette, I know it was hard being a single mom. I hoped that I was some help. Know that all of us look at you with awe and inspiration. You raised an amazing young man and you’ll forever be in my debts. Please let’s give her a round of applause for that.

 

Here’s an example by a father to his parents or son’s grandparents.

First and foremost, let me say a big thank you to my mother Mamaw for standing by me through the good times and bad. She was like a second mother to Steve and she did everything in her power to make life easier for me and reduce my stress during my tough times. She’s no longer with us but I know she’s looking down at us

and is so proud of who her grandson has become.

A special thanks go to my father Papaw who was and still is our handyman, our advisor, and my pillar or strength and our source of laughter. He and mom both provided Steve with great role-models and helped them grow up to be well-adjusted.

Can you write down the names of person you wish to thank? Just jot them down.

 

Writing idea #4:  Starting Your Speech

After you have expressed gratitude to family and friends, you have to start with some captivating remarks to break the ice.

You can start with one or more of the following ideas:

• Start with a joke or a hilarious comment….Here’s an example

This beautiful couple have the world at their feet today, don’t they? Someone very wise once said, “Marriage is a partnership where each partner secretly believes that they got the better deal.” I can’t say which of you is correct in that, because both of you are quite the catch!

 

 

• If your son’s birthday coincides with his wedding day, then you may ask the wedding guests to sing a happy birthday song for him. However, you can personalize it a bit to make it more entertaining. Here’s an example to illustrate this point.

Response by son:

I am so glad that you asked me that

But I am not going to tell you now because you didn’t bring me any birthday gift!

Well, If you want to know my age, just ask my dad because he’s the one who brought this up….else I won’t have told you because today is my wedding day.

 

Did you see I changed the lyrics here and there to suit the occasion? You can give it a try and practice it out loud with your son if he’s lucky to have his birthday and wedding date on a particular weekend. If you do it well, your message might go viral.

• If you are an emotional person or want to start your speech with a quote about fatherhood or any other quote about marriage.

• You may relive memories of when your son was born at the hospital if it has a fascinating twist to it. I remember working with a man who said he was so excited about his child’s arrival that he forgot where he’d parked his car when the announcer asked him to park well to make way for someone to move his car. Stories like that are always heartwarming and make great speeches what they are.

• You can always start with a song if you are a gifted musician. This father of the groom certainly made all the difference at his son’s wedding.

 

 

• You can decide to give joint parents of the groom speech by speaking in turns.

 

Now, let’s get to the next point.

 

Writing idea #5:  Talk about Your Son

There are so many things you can write about when you are weaving a story about your son. To make things a little bit easier, you should decide if you just want to talk about childhood, teenage years or adulthood.

Alternatively, you can choose one or more of his best character traits, build a story with them, and explain why those qualities will help him weather the storms of marriage.

Steve was a happy child, curious but shy, always fun and loved parties even as a toddler!

He grew to be independent, but still loved parties especially the ones he threw herself! And concerts.”

When he first entered Uni, we were warned that he would get homesick and we should remain strong and not let him get to us. Yeah, well I failed at that test.  He had already made friends though, so they were taking stuff out of my car as fast as I was putting stuff in! But we did eventually get hIM packed and home. He re-entered another Uni the following semester, but again after a day he called to tell me that he’s going out with this girl.

Knowing who my son is, I doubted if he meant it. As the days went by, he kept talking about his friend and I got so curious. At that point, I knew this was getting serious. Lo and behold, his nameless friend came to visit and I could tell right away why he so much adored Stephanie.

Fundraising Letter or Speech: How to Write an Inspiring Fundraising Letter That Will Motivate Your Donors to Give Your Charity What It Really Deserves

Are you planning to write a fundraising letter or give a speech to raise funds for your charity?

But not too sure how to write a letter that will motivate your donor and prospective donors to readily open their wallets and give a generous amount that will sustain you in good times and bad times?

Before we start, let’s look at this short story about the power of giving. Afterwards, we are going to use the lesson learned to write an appeal letter to your donors.

Years ago, Ilene’s preacher noticed that a family standing in front of him at a New Orleans convenience store did not have enough money to pay for their few items.

 He tapped the man on the shoulder and said, “You don’t need to turn around, but please accept this money.” The man took the money without ever seeing the preacher.

Nine years later, the pastor was invited to speak at a church in New Orleans. After the service, a man walked up to the preacher and shared this story about how he had come to faith in Christ: “Several years ago, my wife and our child were destitute. We had lost everything, had no jobs, no money and were living in our car.

 

We also lost all hope, and agreed to a suicide pact, including our child. However, we decided to first give our son some food, so we drove to a convenience store to buy him some food and milk.”

 

“While we were standing in line at the store, we realized that we did not have enough money to pay for these items, but a man behind us asked us to please take the money from his hand and not look at him. This man told us that ‘Jesus loves you.’”

 

“We left the store, drove to our designated suicide site, and wept for hours. We couldn’t go through with it, so we drove away. As we drove, we noticed a church with a sign out front which said, ‘Jesus loves you.’ We went to that church the very next Sunday, and both my wife and I were saved that day.”

 

He then told the pastor, “When you began speaking this morning, I knew immediately that you were the man who gave us that money.” How did he know? The pastor was from South Africa and had a very distinct accent. He continued, “Your act of kindness was much more than a simple good deed. Three people are alive today because of it.”

 

Have you or someone you know ever been touched by a genuine act of kindness? If you have, then you will agree with Ben Carson who said that happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give.

 

We all have something to give, whether rich or poor. We can give sour time, energy, strength, and intellect in support of causes that’s so dear to our hearts. But, in the fundraising arena, money does grease the wheels of happiness.

 

We all love to have it but when it comes to giving it out, we can sometimes be a little stingy. Yet, we have to give our financial resources to support because we all need someone to lean on.

 

That brings me to this question: How do you convince your current donors and even skeptical ones to continuously contribute cash to keep your organization alive year after year.

 

It’s actually simple as there are some time-tested tips and tricks that can help you write a compelling fundraising letter or speech so you can raise enough funds for your charity. But, first and foremost, let’s consider a few things you should carefully consider before you pour your thoughts and emotions onto paper.

 

First, you need to consider if you are going to write an appeal letter to your contributors or a speech. If you have invited your supporters to an end of year giving program, then it’s best to make a fundraising charity speech. If you are thinking of doing that, then you can watch a few video clips to get you inspired.

 

This is what I want you to do right now. Go grab your paper and pen and jot down ideas you think you can incorporate into your speech or letter as you watch those clips.

Well, the approach is quite different if you want to send out a letter to your donors. Here are a few things you should ask yourself if you intend to write a letter.

• What kind of letter do you wish to pen? An appeal letter asking for donations, re-activating lapsed donors, prospecting campaign, volunteers, or alerting your supporters about an emergency at your end ? Or what are you thinking about? Or a thank you letter? The list goes on

• Who is going to receive your letter? Political donors? Church folks? Environmental activists? Etc..

• Through what medium are you sending the letter? In a plain envelope? Via email? Or both?

• If you are asking for money, what dollar amount are you expecting from your donors? A fixed amount or suggested figures in dollars or in your local currency?

 

Having figured out the purpose and intent of your letter, you must read some fundraising letter samples. You must go through a few of them because well-written examples can give you a fair of what to add and what not to include in your donation letter.

 

But you should tread with caution considering that the policy and mission of most organizations sets the tone for the letter. Nonetheless, you can still apply the underlying principles and tactics in a very convincing manner to spur on your donors.

 

In the next lines, I am going to share with you several donation or charity samples. Please study them carefully and take note of my comments below them so you can apply the lessons learned towards writing your own script no matter what kind of donation letter you have in mind.

Fundraising speech example#1: Thank you for your donation letter

June 18^th, 2017

 

Dear Rebecca,

We truly appreciate your thoughtful contribution of $50 to Toronto Cat Rescue in honor of Claire. As a volunteer-powered organization, we were able to save many lives each year because of supporters like you.

Donors work alongside foster parents and volunteers to facilitate successful adoptions. When someone adopts a cat into their forever home, it saves two lives-both the adoptee and the cat that will be rescued in his or her place. In July alone, we found forever homes for 188 cats. One of the cats we were then able to save in July was Holly.

As most of us are well aware, Balconies pose a considerable threat to curious, height-seeking felines.  One such tragedy came to TCR’S attention last spring when a cat named Lolly was surrendered to Toronto Animal Services (TAS) because her owners were unable to afford her medical bills.  Poor Lolly feel a mind-boggling 15 stories:  breaking her front paw, dislocating her jaw and lacerating her leg.

With the help of a lot of caring people, such as yourself, our little miracle girl Lolly received  the surgeries she needed and was placed in a foster home to continue her recovery. With plenty of love, nutrition and cage rest, Lolly began eating on her own, gaining weight, and regaining her strength and vitality.

 

A couple months later. we are thrilled to share the news that Lolly’s foster home has made the decision to officially adopt her!  As she continues to recover comfortably in her forever home, we feel truly humbled by the support that this community has offered to Lolly and other cats just like her.

 

More recently, this commitment has demonstrated through the careful planning and construction of a new volunteer centre, which will provide an incredible facility to help maximize the amount of lives we can save.  We are grateful that so many generous souls have supported our cause. That’s an absolutely brilliant thank you letter…isn’t it? Now compare that example to this one:

 

Dear Donor ,

Imagine you are a donor and receive these two letters from organizations you are truly passionate about. You have $100 to give each charity. Which of these two will receive your most significant contribution? Pause and think twice about that!

Personally, I will give $80 to Toronto Rescue Cats and $20 to Do Trust. My reason for this gesture is probably as good as yours.

 

Most charitable firms want money but when it comes to asking for it and acknowledging receipt, the message falls flat. That’s unfortunately the case with the second letter.

 

When asking for money, what you say and how you say it will determine the amount of dollars you will receive. So, you have to ask well. To ask well, there are several principles that should be applied to get the needed funds from your donors. They are contained in those letters.

 

So, let’s get to work by analyzing both examples.

 

First, I suspect ‘’Do Trust ‘’don’t have a solid relationship with her donors or it could be that they have no idea what the names of their givers are? The best way of establishing a rapport with your supporters is to call them by their name. Need I say more? Whether in print or online, you should call them by their first names. That’s the first tip I have for you.

 

Tip#2: Start your opening lines with something that grabs attention. There are several ways to engage the reader. When you are writing a thank you fundraising letter, it makes a lot of sense to make a reference to the specific amount your supporter gave.

 

If you are sending your message to a regular contributor and you have a good donor database, then you can take time to find out the number of times and total amount you’ve received and thank him or her tremendously for it.

 

Can you imagine how touched the recipient will be if you can go to that extent? It shows that you are not only thoughtful but also grateful and value your donor like family. You better give it a try if you want to be the apple of the donor’s eye.

 

Let me digress here. Thank you donation letters should be personalized as much as possible. It’s quite common for such letters to be generated by a computer. There’s nothing wrong with that if you are sending out several letters to different recipients.

 

If it’s a small quantity, you should do all you can to write your note of gratitude in your own handwriting before you sign off the letter. It should be more like a personal letter from one friend to another. Nothing can beat that. Again, you should use your thank you note to create an immediate connection with your donors by sending out your letter as soon as you receive their gifts even if you have not begun work on what you said you will. 

 

I read a story where a kind man sent $100 to a hospice. That certainly didn’t look like a winning lottery ticket, but the development officer quickly picked his phone to talk to the guy. And guess what happened? They developed this likeness for each other’s personalities that the guy sent them another check for $25000!

 

You never know who can give you that much until you make an extra effort to write them or place a cal. Never say thank you by email in a bid to skimp on postage. Never, ever do that. It smacks of insensitiveness. Rather, a personal touch always win as nothing can compare to the joy of having a paper in your hand!

Now, let’s go on with our analysis by recapping parts of the letter above.

That’s the storyline of the letter. What separates standard thank you notes from exceptional ones is how the fundraising writer builds a solid case for his message by laying out how the funds have been used. This can be illustrated practically with a story or even pictures or both of them. Both work best though and that’s how the writer did in that wonderful letter.

 

Below is another great example to raise funds for Covenant House

You’re going to have trouble believing this letter.

I mean, what I’m about to tell you is so strange and incredible, you’ll never forget it.

But please understand that

EVERY SINGLE WORD OF THIS STORY IS TRUE!!!

Dear Friend

     She came to our front door Tuesday morning, dressed in dirty rags, holding a little aluminum paint can in her arms.

     From the second she stepped inside our shelter, she mystified us. Whatever she did, wherever she went, the paint can never left her hands.

 

     When Kathy sat in the crisis shelter, the can sat in her arms.  She took the can with her to the cafeteria that first morning she ate, and to bed with her that first night she slept.

     When she stepped into the shower, the can was only a few feet away.  When the tiny homeless girl dressed, the can rested alongside her feet.

 

     “I’m sorry, this is mine,” she told our counselors, whenever we asked her about it.  “This can belongs to me.”

     “Do you want to tell me what’s in it, Kathy?” I’d ask her? “Um, not today,” she said  “not today.”

     When Kathy was sad, or angry or hurt -- which happened a lot -- she took her paint can to a quiet dorm room on the 3rd floor.  Many times on Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday, I’d pass by her room, and watch her rock gently back and forth, the can in her arms.  Sometimes she’d talk to the paint can in low whispers.

 

     I’ve been around troubled kids all my life, (over 41,000 homeless kids will come to our shelters this year!).  I’m used to seeing them carry stuffed animals (some of the roughest, toughest kids at Covenant House have a stuffed animal).  Every kid has something -- needs something -- to hold.

     But a paint can? I could feel alarm bells ringing in my head.

    

Early this morning, I decided to “accidentally” run into her again.  “Would you like to join me for breakfast?” I said.  “That would be great,” she said.

     For a few minutes we sat in a corner of our cafeteria, talking quietly over the din of 150 ravenous homeless kids.  Then I took a deep breath, and plunged into it....

     “Kathy, that’s a really nice can.  What’s in it?”

     For a long time, Kathy didn’t answer.  She rocked back and forth, her hair swaying across her shoulders.  Then she looked over at me, tears in her eyes.

     “It’s my mother,” she said.

     “Oh,” I said.  “What do you mean it’s your mother?” I asked.

     “It’s my mother’s ashes,” she said.

 

     “I went and got them from the funeral home.  See, I even asked them to put a label right here on the side. It has her name on it.”

     Kathy held the can up before my eyes.  A little label on the side chronicled all that remained of her mother: date of birth, date of death, name.  That was it.  Then Kathy pulled the can close, and hugged it.

 

     “I never really knew my mother, Sister,” Kathy told me.  “I mean, she threw me in the garbage two days after I was born.” (We checked Kathy’s story. Sure enough the year Kathy was born, the New York newspapers ran a story, saying that the police had found a little infant girl in a dumpster ... and yes, it was two days after Kathy was born.)

 

     “I ended up living in a lot of foster homes, mad at my mother,” Kathy said.  “But then, I decided I was going to try to find her.  I got lucky -- someone knew where she was living. I went to her house.”

     “She wasn’t there, Sister,” she said.  “My mother was in the hospital.  She had AIDS.  She was dying.

 

     “I went to the hospital, and I got to meet her the day before she died.  My mother told me she loved me, Sister,” Kathy said crying.  “She told me she loved me.”  (We double-checked Kathy's story ... every word of it was true.

     I reached out and hugged Kathy, and she cried in my arms for a long, long time.  It was tough getting my arms around her, because she just wouldn’t put the paint can down.  But she didn’t seem to mind.  I know I didn’t...

     I saw Kathy again, a couple hours ago, eating dinner in our cafeteria.  She made a point to come up and say hi. I made a point to give her an extra hug....

     I’ve felt like crying tonight.  I can’t seem to stop feeling this way.  I guess this story -- the whole horrible, sad, unreal mess -- has gotten to me tonight.

     I guess that’s why I just had to write you this letter.

     Please -- I know you and I have never met before.  But I need to ask you something very important, and I’m praying you’ll consider it, if you can.

     Do you think you could help Kathy ... and our other kids at Covenant House?  Please?

     We are here for kids like Kathy 24 hours a day, in 9 cities across America, 365 days a year.  No kid -- no kid! -- is ever turned away ever!

    

Thanks to the love and help of thousands of caring people -- people just like you -- Covenant House spends MORE than the entire federal government to help these kids.  (That’s what I meant when I said that giving to us is THE best way to help these kids.)

     But so much more needs to be done.  And we can’t do it alone.

This is a stellar example and you can just study it and apply the insights from it. And boom, you will have a winner. Here are a few take aways.

• This letter is really personalized…Here it is ‘’ Dear Friend’’

 

• It starts with a curious story: ‘’She came to our front door Tuesday morning…’’ The reader might be wondering who this person is? Good stories always win hearts…Never, ever forget that.

 

• The story is quite emotional. Where appropriate, you should drip your pieces of touches of sentimentality. Stay away from it if it’s not appropriate for your piece or your letter will fail to make the desired impression.

 

• The letter espouses the impact of the work they do. See this:

‘’ This year more than 41,000 homeless kids ... kids who are 12, 16, 17 years old ... will come to our doors.

     We’ll give these kids food, and a safe bed to sleep in (the streets are incredibly dangerous!) and medicine, and counseling if they need it (most kids do).’’

 

Sadly, most charities just mention what they do without bringing to light the impact of their work. The duty of the writer is to always show and not tell.

• Ask and it shall be given. In some instances, you need to ask for specific amounts and not leave it to chance. Here’s an example

‘’Do you think maybe you could help?  Please?  Any donation you can send -- $15, $25, $50 -- any amount, will be a godsend to our kids.  Please do it today if you can.’’

• Give the reader a reason to act now. For example, this is how I would say IF i want to convey a sense of urgency.

 

We have never done this before. But I just wanted to let you know that if we don’t receive your donation within 60 days, the home will be flooded. Last week, the meteorologist predicted that there will be torrential rains in the next 60 days. And we have to act before that time else we will have ourselves to blame.

 

Ok…Let’s move onto the third fundraising letter sample: a letter to raise funds for desmoid tumor.

 

Dear family and friends: As most of you are aware, _________ was recently diagnosed with a desmoid tumor.

This is a rare disease which has had little research attention and for which there are few existing treatments that are only sporadically effective.

Instead of just sitting back and accepting this situation, I have decided to try to make a difference. I am working to raise money for The Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation* which is currently funding groundbreaking desmoid tumor research at top cancer research institutions. For details, see www.dtrf.org.

 

These studies promise to provide critical information relating to the causes and treatment of desmoid tumors. We are now raising funds to keep these and other important research projects moving forward. Discoveries made through desmoid tumor research can also potentially be applied to other cancers such as breast, colon, ovarian and other sarcoma cancers.

 

The diagnosis of desmoid tumor is traumatic as you realize that it can be life-threatening, but because it is so rare and under-researched, there is little known about its causes or treatments.
