M3

Are you wondering how to do that? You don’t have to worry because I am going to share with you time-tested tips and ideas you should know so you can write the best mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech for your son.

Most mothers get stuck when thinking of what to say at rehearsal dinner. For these moms, you have to be endowed with the gift of words or the gift of live performance in order to capture the attention of the audience.

Contrary to what most folks think, that is not always true because I have had the good fortune of working with countless mothers, some of whom are writers, and I can assure you that coming up with a sweet mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech toast, is not entirely dependent on your skillset even though it helps to a certain extent.

Mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech for son

All you need to put on a good show is a believing heart that you can make it in spite of all the odds.

Many schools of thought advocate writing your pre-wedding speech for your child by looking for the right ideas. But I have a different viewpoint based on my years of experience writing speeches.

Writing a good speech is a lot like a traveler about to embark on a journey. You need to prepare before you set off. The mistake I see most mothers make is to write before they prepare.

By this, I am actually talking about preparing yourself mentally before you even sit down to write something about your son and daughter-in-law.

Preparing yourself mentally is the best way to take complete control of the situation, particularly if you are nervous. Nervousness is not a terrible thing per se. So, if the thought of standing before your family and friends send a cold shiver down your spine, you need not worry at all.

Rather, that experience should energize you for success. Having those feelings is a sure sign that you either find this endeavor intimidating or you have goofed some time ago when you were asked to speak before a group of people.

Whatever the case is, just put the past behind you and make a daily conscious by envisioning yourself speaking confidently before the wedding guests. As you keep at this, your fears will calm down and you will be empowered from within to speak with confidence and clarity even if you are as shy as a squirrel.

Another aspect of this involves putting yourself in the mood for the expression of your thoughts and ideas. This is the most important thing you have to consider before you write your speech since it will make things a whole lot easier for you.

To get the right ideas and content to create an outline for your message, you should spend some time and try to figure out what goes into making successful speeches.  Mother of the groom rehearsal speech video is one of the best media for getting ideas that will inspire you to come up with good content.

So, this is what I want you to do now.  Please watch these two videos and make note of ideas you think can enrich your own speech.

Here you go: enjoy and learn from both video clips

Both clips were enjoyable to watch and I am sure you learned a thing or two from them. By the way, here is a short mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech example for your inspiration and guidance.

Please study it intently as we will look at what went into writing this sample. Here you go:

Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Sample

Good evening  I’m Angela, Alex’s mom. Thanks so much for coming. Alex is my second child and it seems like only yesterday that he came into my life and made me feel so proud to be his mom.

Alex was a very witty, brave, and funny little boy.

Growing up, Alex was very adventurous. When he was a little boy, he loved eating bananas. Once, he got hungry during the middle of the night and decided to find something to eat.

I got up only to find that he was nowhere in sight. So, we looked frantically for him and my heart missed lots of beats.

Shortly after calling the police, we found him sleeping on top of our refrigerator like a log. The brave little boy had apparently climbed on top of the refrigerator to get a banana and realized he couldn’t get down by himself. So, he decided to make it his bed.

Needless to say, I was so relieved when we found him and as I reached to get him down, he hugged me so tight and said: ‘’I love you, mommy. But have you forgotten that banana is my life? They make me so happy’’

When Alex got to his teens, he was very outgoing and friendly.  But what I really admired about him was his sense of perseverance, joyful dedication, and unwavering focus.

Mother speech for son at rehearsal dinner

I remember in his junior and senior years in high school, he worked at McDonald's. He was so friendly, outgoing, and extremely hardworking that his boss and co-workers liked him very much.

Subsequently, he became a manager just 6 months after being hired. That inspiring success didn’t get to his head as our son still believed he could still dream and reach for the sky!

He worked hard and eventually got enlisted in the navy where he is currently serving for the last 7 years.

Alex, we are so proud of you. As your mom, all I can say that you’re a blessing to me and our entire family. We couldn’t be more proud that you are going to share your whole life with someone he can’t live without.

Milda, my son is so blessed to have found you. We admire the way you look out for him and make him so happy. You are very supportive and caring and I am very confident that you will be a fantastic wife and mom. I am honored to be your mother-in-law and I look forward to spending many great moments with you and your family in the years ahead.

Alex and Milda, congratulations and I am sure we’ve all really enjoyed sharing this special evening with you. You’re a beautiful couple and you have what it takes to make your marriage work as you want it.

So, always love each other fully, every day and you will look back on this day with a very grateful heart. God bless you and we wish you the very best in the years to come.

How to Write Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Toast

Most mothers think it’s difficult to draft something like this. But it’s not. If you look at the example once more, you will notice that it has three parts to it. Do you know what they are?

Ok, I would help you out. If you study it more closely, you will realize that this piece consists of the following elements: body, introduction, and conclusion or the toast.

Now, let us take it one step at a time. We will focus first on the introduction. Let us take a cursory look at excerpts of the introductory remarks so we can figure out how it is done.

‘’ Good evening  I’m Angela, Alex’s mom. Thanks so much for coming. Alex is my second child and it seems like only yesterday that he came into my life and made me feel so proud to be his mom. ‘’

As you can see from this extract, the introductory remarks comprise of these:

  • Name and your relationship to the groom and bride…Angela didn’t mention that.

Well, the mother of the groom could have gone further by thanking some individuals who have been a blessing in Alex’s life.

Do you remember persons who helped you raise your son? If so, please write down their names and why you want to thank them.

For example:

A special thanks go to my father Mike who was and still is our handyman, our advisor, and my pillar of strength and our source of laughter.

Did you see that?  If someone is deceased or bedridden, you can still mention that. But if you don’t want that pronouncement to take away the joy of the evening, you can skip it.

I always find however that most mothers mention it, particularly if they want to honor the memory of someone who was a huge blessing in his son’s life. Moreover, if you are a single or a widowed mom, you need not mention that explicitly.

After expressing appreciation to deserving individuals, you have to start with a bang and that is where most mothers really struggle to come up with the right ideas or content.

The opening remarks are so important but most mothers give little attention to it because the overwhelming majority of them just don’t know to grab the attention of the wedding guests right from the very start.

I am happy to share with you some time-tested ideas to help you write a captivating opener.

First, you may make your opening lines heartfelt by sharing stories of how you felt when your son was born at the hospital.

Here is a short example:

Seeing my son looking so happy takes me back many years to a moment when my heart almost burst with joy, the first time I held my precious baby boy in my arms.

Second, you can start on a hilarious note by making fun of the bride and the groom.

Third, if they have been through a whole lot of tragedies or other setbacks to reach this beautiful milestone, you can talk about it.

Fourth, you can use any of the following quotes or one-liners to start your rehearsal dinner speech for your son and daughter-in-law.

''There has never been, nor will there ever be, anything quite so special as the love between the mother and a son.” – Anonymous

''A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.” – Irish Proverb

“Mothers are inscrutable beings to their sons, always.” – A.E. Coppard

''Sons are the anchors of a mother’s life.” – Sophocles

''All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ― Abraham Lincoln

How to write a mother of the groom rehearsal dinner sspeech

Using quote # 1…we can start with this touching introduction.

I have had the privilege and honor of sharing my whole life with Chris and I must say that there will never be anything quite as special as the love I have for my only child and son.

Did you notice how I used that quote to come up with that? That is how it is done.

Now, let us see...

How to Write The Content Or Body Of Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Toast

We are going to re-look at excerpts of our example to guide us along the way.

‘’ Growing up, Alex was very adventurous. When he was a little boy, he loved eating bananas. Once, he got hungry during the middle of the night and decided to find something to eat.

I got up only to find that he was nowhere in sight. So, we looked frantically for him and my heart missed lots of beats. ‘’

After reviewing samples like this one, most mothers go on to put their thoughts together. Even though that is not wrong per se, it takes the shine out of what would have otherwise been a great presentation.

Writing a successful mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech involves these processes:

  1. Discovering how such speeches are made which we have already covered above.
  1. Picking a theme for your speech. Depending on who you are, you can decide to compose your message in a witty, dramatic, poetic, hilarious, sentimental, or a combination of two or more styles. From what I know, most mothers of the grooms prefer doing heartfelt and funny speeches.

A word of caution here: Make sure you do something you are comfortable with. Just because someone made a funny speech at a rehearsal dinner you were once at doesn’t mean you should opt for that even if you haven’t even made a little child giggle with excitement. Pick something that reflects who you are and stick to it.

That way, the wedding guests will see how authentic your toast is.

  1. Then, you plan out a structure or outline of your speech by figuring out how you want to it flow or go.

For example, you can decide to start from when your son was born until he met the soon-to-be bride or got married.

You can also focus on your son’s wonderful character traits and back it up with stories and then say why he will be a loving husband and father.

You can also pick a favorite anecdote about your son’s life and use it to write your speech.

Now, which of these approaches would work best for you in the long run?

Whatever your pick is, there are a couple of useful pointers that can be of great help when brainstorming about the content of your story.

These are but a few questions that can help you get the right anecdotes. So, please grab your journal and write down answers to the following questions.

  • When was your son born?
  • How did you feel when he was born?
  • What were your dreams for him as he grew older?
  • What were the earlier years like?
  • What was he like when he was a toddler or only a little boy?
  • What was he like when he was growing up?

Jot down as many stories you can remember about the above questions or anything you wish to add to your speech. Then, put together a rough draft based on your responses.

Never mind if what you come up with is as rough as a nutmeg grater. You can smooth the rough edges later by rewriting it over and over.

After you have said something about your son, you then turn the spotlight on your daughter-in-law.

Here, you can recount things like:

  • How you felt when your son told you about her
  • How you felt when you first met her
  • What you learned about her when you got to know her well
  • Write about her amazing character traits
  • Share why you think she will be an amazing wife and mother
  • Say why you are so happy that she’s joining your family

Well, if you don’t approve of your son’s choice of spouse, keep it to yourself because the wedding rehearsal dinner is not the venue to share that grievance.

Well, if you don’t know her too, well, don’t say that. Instead, you can simply say that she’s a beautiful person and you are sure that she will bring her wonderful qualities to bear as she starts building a life with your precious son.

How to Write The Ending Of Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Toast

Look at how the writer concluded carefully and tell me what your views are.

‘’ congratulations and I am sure we’ve all really enjoyed sharing this special evening with you…So, always love each other fully, every day and you will look back on this day with a very grateful heart. God bless you and we wish you the very best in the years to come.

Any feedback? That was a simple ending to a simple speech. Just as the introduction should capture the attention of the audience, your conclusion too should end with a bang because it’s what the guests might take home with them.

If you do a great job at it, it will remain in the minds of the wedding guests for a long time to come.

I am sure you would like to wrap up on a gracious note, so, I am going to share with you proven tips that can help you finish strong.

  • First, you can simply thank the guests for their time and attention.

  • If you have been married for long, you can offer a sweet word of advice based on your own personal marriage experiences. Quotes like those you will find below can make your account much sweeter

''Husband and wife relationships are like the relationship between Tom and Jerry. Though they are teasing and fighting, but can’t live without each other.” – Unknown

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

“A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” – Dave Meurer

“Never marry the one you can live with, marry the one you cannot live without.” – Unknown

“A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love.” – Pearl S. Buck

  • If you are a deeply religious person or a Christian, you can craft a short faith-based message with some popular bible verses as seen below

Song of Solomon 8:6-7: "Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised."

Ecclesiastes 4:9: "Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?"

Proverbs 3:3-4: "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man."

  • You can also wax poetic by ending with a love or marriage poem. You may use this poem by the great George Elliot.

To Be One with Each Other, by George Eliot

What greater thing is there for two human souls,
than to feel that they are joined for life -
to strengthen each other in all labour,
to rest on each other in all sorrow,
to minister to each other in all pain,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories.

Taking inspiration from this verse, I quickly wrote this short example:

Love is the best gift to any couple and there’s no greater joy than finding that special person to bear your heart out in good times and the bad. You have found each other to help each other and make memories together because there’s no power greater than two souls united by the bond of love.

Did you see how I did that? That’s how poetry is used to enrich rehearsal dinner toast.

  • If you have a good singing voice, then you can probably sing that example I just wrote to the rhythm or melody of a well-known song and you will be loved and admired for that.

Mothers rehearsal dinner toast samples or examples

These are just a few cute ways to go about it. So feel free to do what you think is right for you or even come up with your own style and you will be proud you did.

Mother of the groom writing help and assistance(Just Scroll Down This Page For Help From The Experts)

Dear Anxious Mom,

I am Christie,

I know you are dreaming of giving a very beautiful and heartfelt wedding speech.

Granted, it’s not so easy to write a great one let alone face a terrifying audience.

Like you, I badly wanted to give a great speech that will make my son proud and show him and the guests how much I really love him.

But, juggling work and family meant I had little time to spare.

But I was obsessed with writing a beautiful speech yet finding the right words was like pulling out a child’s tooth.

I Was Feeling Completely Helpless

I knew the audience wanted me to do my very best because I was well known for my speaking abilities.

But, I couldn’t put my thoughts together in a very compelling way.

That was a bit puzzling because I had given so many speeches.

But, I never knew wedding speeches were very different.

I spent countless hours, sometimes deep into the night, but things didn’t work out as I had hoped for.

Thank God!  This Helped Me Out!

Prior to the wedding of my first son in 2015,  I was so nervous that I just couldn’t figure out how to write a very meaningful speech, and that’s when I began to seek someone to help me so I could have peace of mind.

In the process, I stumbled on this page you are currently reading and I was skeptical when Dan and his team said they could help give a great wedding speech even if I hate speaking in public.

Well, I took a leap of faith when I found that I didn’t have to pay first to get my speech and that allayed my fears.

Quickly, I got started by first filling out this form as I really wanted to make a difference this time.

Dan and his team delivered what they promised and they even gave me tips on how to speak well which helped a lot.

When I was called to deliver my speech,  I spoke with poise, flair, and confidence and got so many compliments!!!!

My son was proud of me and someone said to me that I was an inspiration.

Dan and his guys asked me how my speech went afterward and this was the note I sent them.

Mother Of The Groom Speech Rehearsal Dinner Speech Samples

Several Moms Around The World Are Using This Short And Sweet Mother Of The Groom Speech Sample To Effortlessly Write Something Beautiful About Their Sons And Daughters-in-law for the rehearsal dinner night...Have You Seen It?

Wondering how to effortlessly give a beautiful speech at the rehearsal dinner without trying so hard?

Mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech tips and ideas

Don’t worry…Just follow this easy-to-follow example and you will only be a step away from saying something funny and heartfelt about your precious son.

Amanda had three wonderful boys and her dream as they grew older was to see them get married to wonderful ladies.

She, however, wasn’t around to see her first and second sons get married because she was involved in a fatal accident and that kept her in the hospital bed for many years.

When his last son decided to take his fiancée to the altar, she was back on her feet and her son asked her to give a speech at the rehearsal dinner.

She had never given a speech her whole life and this kept her up at night.

A few days before the event, she hastily put something together and this is what she said that night:

Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Linda, Aaron’s mother.

Aaron has always held a special place in my heart.

It seems like only yesterday, he came into my life and made me feel like the luckiest mom ever.

From that moment on, my hope and prayer were to love and raise him to be a wonderful man someday.

M6 (1)

Growing up, you were very active and fun to be with and that hasn’t changed over the years.

Whether Aaron was acting up and making faces, telling jokes, pranking someone, or drawing funny pictures, the little boy really lit my heart with joy.

I remember he was so easy-going that my girlfriends and younger children loved to always hang with him.

Even before those kids were able to talk or get out and move on their own much, he would take care of them and make sure they were happy and not be crying in their pumpkin seats.

Sometimes, he would take them for rides. Aaron loved to work with his hands and it was a great joy to see him try new things. His love for cars formed when he reached his teens.

The years have come and gone pretty fast and he’s grown into a very respectful, thoughtful, compassionate, responsible, selfless, charming, witty, and sensitive young man.

Aaron, we are so proud of the wonderful man you’ve become and how far life has brought you.

I thank God for giving you to me and for giving me the opportunity to love unconditionally.

You came into my life and saved me in so many ways.

You are also wonderful in every way and I love that you truly show me every day how much you love and need me.

Your selfless nature, and unconditionally love for people is so admirable and I know for sure that will take you far in life.

Even though my love for you runs so deep, I am so excited that Cmantha now has your heart and can’t wait to see what great things you will accomplish with Cmantha, for your own children.

Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron and Cmantha have been friends for a very long time. They met way back in high school.

I first met her when she came over to swim at our house. The more I got to know her, the more I realized she was a very good person for my son.

As time went on, I watched how she treated Aaron with love and brought out the best in him and I secretly hoped that someday they will tie the knot.

Today, my dream has come true and I am ecstatic that it's all finally official and Cmantha’s now my daughter.

Cmantha, you have no idea how much you mean to us. Words can’t just describe the love we have for you.

As a family, we’ve been through ups and downs. But, through it all, you stood by us and showered us with endless love. It feels so good to know that you’ve married Kyle.

Not only are you so beautiful, but you’re so strong, intelligent, respectful, compassionate, patient, empathetic, self- confident and you love children.

I am confident that you will be a good wife and mom! We love you and on behalf of my family, I would like to welcome you and your family into ours with open arms.

Aaron and Cmantha, for years, you both have cherished each other with every passing moment. You truly complement each other.

As you begin your lives together, I pray you stay blessed and I wish you nothing but happy moments and endless love. God bless you both

Wouldn’t it great if you write something close to that or even better when your son calls you out of the blue and asks you to say something short and sweet?

Would you pass that up or make him proud? I know you’re wondering how you’re going to do that since you are someone who hates speaking in front of a small audience.

Mother of the groom speech at rehearsal dinner

Wipe Your Tears Because...

Whatever your case is, don’t worry because I am going to show you how you can use the example above to write a beautiful mom of the groom's speech that captures the sentiments of your heart.

Before we do, please take note of this. Before you even write your mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech, you have to work on healing yourself from the inside out.

You see, the vast majority of mothers get mentally disadvantaged due to past speaking failures and they often get stuck in the writing process.

What that means is that you need to work on yourself if you are not a confident speaker or are scared that your presentation is going to be a déjà vu of past failures.

Believe it or not, if you have been through the tortuous agony of addressing a few people, you are definitely going to hear a lot of tormenting voices in your head as soon as you make up your mind to say something about your son and daughter-in-law.

Among many things, this domineering voice will remind you of your insecurities like you are not good with words or don’t have the guts to speak in public. What you do with the voice you hear will reinforce your anxieties and insecurities.

If you want to excel, you have to dwell on the positive side of things by first considering that you have another chance to make up for your losses. Your son, your family, as well as the wedding guests, are not expecting a perfect speech from your lips.

All that they want to hear from you is memorable stories about your son’s life presented in a very loving way. I know you have lots of fond memories to share with everyone. So, put behind you whatever experiences or you have been through and envision how well this is going to be.

As you keep at it,  you will be empowered from within even if you are as shy as a deer in the headlights and you will be able to practice speaking with confidence and make sure you sound confident when you talk.

As a wedding speechwriter, I am often asked by most moms how to get the best ideas on how to write a great mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech.

It’s actually simple than most mothers think. One fine place of getting rich ideas most mothers overlook is on youtube.com et al.

If you have not watched at least two videos on the subject, then you shouldn’t bother to draft your speech because water can’t flow from an empty reservoir. What that means is that you need to see videos to get a good grasp of how to make your thoughts flow smoothly.

I scoured the internet and found these pieces. They are to give you an idea of what the narration sounds like.

My suggestion is to watch both clips like two or three times and put down notes and ideas you want to incorporate into your final delivery.

Mother of the Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Example# 1

Mother of the Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Example# 2

Which one did you enjoy listening to the most? I love both videos but the second story was my favorite.

That said,  I promise to review Linda’s sample speech so we can figure out how she wrote it.

So, let’s take the most important elements of the speech one step at a time.

First, let’s look carefully at the introduction or opening remarks.

Aaron has always held a special place in my heart.

It seems like only yesterday, he came into my life and made me feel like the luckiest mom ever.

From that moment on, my hope and prayer was to love and raise him to be a wonderful man someday.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas: Do you think that was a great intro? I think so but there are some vital elements missing here.

Liza should have added these to her introductory remarks:

  • She could have mentioned the father of the groom if he’s not deceased
  • Her name and who she’s to Aaron
  • Greet the audience and thank everyone for coming
  • She could have mentioned certain people and thank them for contributing to his son’s upbringing other the years….People like Aaron’s grandparents, her husband, and other members of the family.

Cmantha’s parents deserve some recognition in that part of her speech.

Putting all of that together would have turned out something like this:

Good evening and welcome everyone!

I’m Linda, proud mom of the groom.

It gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish this wonderful couple.

I would like to thank everyone who has come from near and far to share in our joy and happiness.

I would like to take this moment to thank Nani for her…

Now, let’s get back to see other sections of Liza’s speech. Please study it carefully.

Growing up, you were very active and fun to be with and that hasn’t changed over the years.

Whether Aaron was acting up and making faces, telling jokes, pranking someone, or drawing funny pictures, the little boy could really lit your heart with joy.

I remember he was so easy-going that my girlfriends and younger children loved to always hang with him.

Even before those kids were able to talk or get out and move on their own much, he would take care of them and make sure they were happy and not be crying in their pumpkin seats. Sometimes, he would take them for rides.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas:

Right after the introduction of the speech, we segue into Aaron's formative years.

Here’s what I want you to do right now.

Go grab your paper and pen and provide answers to the following questions:

  • How was your son like when he was a little kid?
  • What did he like doing most?
  • Do you remember any funny thing he liked doing?
  • What was his favorite past time or his hobbies?
  • How did you feel when he was growing up?

Dear Mom,

Don’t put down anything negative as you write down memories.

Having scribbled down something brief, go back to the template I gave you at the onset of this piece and examine how the ideas follow one another and do likewise.

Okay, let’s go on.

The years have come and gone pretty fast and he’s grown into a very respectful, thoughtful, compassionate, responsible, selfless, charming, witty, and sensitive young man.

Kyle, we are so proud of the wonderful man you’ve become and how far life has brought you.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas: Please, I want you to scroll up and read that brief extract once more. What can you say about that?

Did you notice how Linda the writer incorporated the following ideas into that part of her short mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech?

  • How proud she is of her son

  • How her son’s character has evolved over the years

  • How she sings her sons' praises

You can model your speech after that and spice it up with….

  • His achievements over the years if you don't want to sound like you're bragging
  • How he helped make a difference in your life and the whole family

Not too long ago, I wrote a speech for a very loving woman from Canada and she told me that her son values ''family over everything'' and she wanted to share that with the wedding guests.

After thinking hard about that, I ended up by saying:

Mr. F.O. E is very sensitive. For those of you know wondering what F.E.O means…it stands for ''family over everything.'' Mr. F.O.E makes every one of the family feel loved and special whenever we meet….

I hope by now you get a sense of where this is going... We still have a few miles to cover, so let’s go on:

Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron and Cmantha have been friends for a very long time. They met way back in high school.

I first met her when she came over to swim at our house. The more I got to know her, the more I realized she was a very good person for my son.

As time went on, I watched how she treated Aaron with love and brought out the best in him and I secretly hoped that someday they will tie the knot.

Today, my dream has come true and I am just completely ecstatic that it's all finally official and Cmantha’s now my daughter.

M3

My comments/your take-home writing ideas:

After you have said something about your son, you then briefly tell how the couple met if you know about that story.

Just put down answers to questions like the following so you can say something about your daughter-in-law.

  • How did you feel when you met your future daughter in law?
  • What were your impressions of her as the days went by?
  • What memories do you have of her…it could be a road trip, vacation tip, family get together your entire family embarked on and how she was very helpful

That reminds me of a speech I once wrote. The mom of the groom loved the bride very much that she wanted to insert into her speech how her precious daughter-in-law stood by the entire family throughout the years and including that moved me to tears because she was a very supportive lady.

You may walk down memory lane and inject into the presentation the difference the bride has had on your life.

Here are Linda's concluding remarks:

Aaron and Cmantha, for years, you both have cherished each other with every passing moment.

You truly complement each other. As you begin your lives together, I pray you stay blessed and I wish you nothing but happy moments and endless love. God bless you both

My comments/your take-home writing ideas :

What you say before you take your seat will linger on the minds of the couple and the wedding guests, so you should put in a great deal of thought into what you say or write about your son or daughter-in-law.

It’s very common for most mothers to...

  • Dispense advice on marriage like this one

Aaron and Cmantha, as you begin this endless journey, always bear in mind that together you are a unique team and you can make your dreams come true as long as you have the same mind, heart, and spirit.

You may use any of the following quotes to spice up your speech based on your experience of being married.

  • A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

  • “A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” – Dave Meurer

  • “Never marry the one you can live with, marry the one you cannot live without.” – Unknown

  • “A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love.” – Pearl S. Buck

  • “Marriage is not about age; it’s about finding the right person.” – Sophia Bush

  • Say what your best wishes are for the marriage

  • "Best wishes to you both as you start your life together."

  • "Lots of love and happiness to you both on this exciting and joyful day for our family."

  • "Lots of love to you both.  May you have a marriage full of love and happiness!"

  •   You can end with a poem about love or marriage or even a wise quote.

  • If you are a Christian, you can get some good bible verses to write faith-based advice for the couple. Here are a couple of scriptures you can use.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22

Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him-a a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” Proverbs 31:10-12

Mother Of The Groom Speech Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Worried About Your Mom Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech?

You Don't Have To...Just Follow These Simple Tips, Ideas And Examples, And You'll Be A Step Away From Giving A Unique, Sweet And Memorable Mom Of The Groom Speech!

M5

Once a frustrated mom whose only son was getting married wrote to me that she wanted to give a very beautiful mom of the groom's speech, yet she couldn't figure out how to get the good words.

I remember that I had many moms to attend to but something whispered into my ear and said: '' Dan, don't worry this is on short notice...Please help her!''

Obviously she was a writer and I asked her to take care of it since I was completely overwhelmed with work.

It turned out that she had no clue about writing a beautiful mom of the groom's speech. So, I had no choice but to help her come with a heartfelt message and I was overjoyed when she came back to tell me her speech was the best of the night.

Mother of the groom speech at rehearsal dinner night

My work with that mom reminds of Sharon’s Jaynes quote: ''Successful Mothers are not the ones that have never struggled, they are the ones that never give up, despite the struggles.''

I am sure you’re one of the most successful moms alive considering the fact that your loving sacrifices and tireless dedication have brought your son thus far.

Well, you shouldn’t leave your speech or even wing it because your mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech should tell your family, friends, and the wedding guests how much you love him and how much your precious son means to you.

But as you may know, stringing your thoughts and emotions together, to form a very meaningful speech is not so easy for most moms.

I have writing speeches this for a while and I know how it feels when you really want to find the rights words and ideas for your speech.

In this post, I will show how to effortlessly get the right ideas and put those thoughts together to form a very effective speech.

Does This Keep You Up At Night?

But first, let’s look at the crucial factor that prevents most moms from achieving real success.

Even though I have been writing speeches for some time, there’s this little voice inside my head that keeps telling me that: ‘’Dan, you can’t do it'', whenever I have to jot down something and that sometimes make me feel a little nervous.

You will also experience too but that shouldn’t get the better of you.

Perhaps you flunked English and you’re thinking you are not cut out for this. Perhaps you goofed big time when you gave a speech on another occasion or you were visibly shivering when you gave a speech at one of your son’s wedding…

Please, get this right. The fact that you failed to impress your audience at some point in the past doesn’t mean you’re going to fail this time too.

No, you won’t. This is another chance to shine like a star and you can do that by believing you can; in spite of what that little voice in your head keeps telling you.

To keep your emotions in check,  you have to constantly hold a positive mental image of yourself speaking confidently and you will be empowered from within.

Now, let’s see how to get good words.

First,

Put Yourself In The Mood For The Clever Expression Of Your Ideas

How can you do that?

  • Here’s what I recommend you do. Go to video sharing sites like youtube.com etc. and insert in the search box: mom of the groom speeches or mom rehearsal dinner speech.

Go grab your notepad and pen and press the play button. Watch as many of them and jot down ideas, words, and phrases you feel you can use for your delivery.

By the way, the beautiful video below is a great example that inspires creative thinking.

This Is By Far The Best Resource...Have You Ever Considered It?

Another great resource most moms don’t make the most of is, mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech samples. We analyzed how one of those pieces was written and you can check it out here.

Oh my gosh, I almost forgot to tell you the benefits of those examples. Not too late to spill the beans right?

Speech samples contain several ideas and phrases and words you can model your own content after. But make sure you don’t copy what you find verbatim else your speech will lack the uniqueness it really deserves.

If you take a critical look at this example and other well-written ones, you will realize that the subject matter is built on these fundamental pillars:

  • Introduction
  • Body
  • Conclusion

Okay, let’s see how you can develop ideas for each pillar.

Let’s use the ‘’pillar of introduction’’ to start with.   Ever heard that there’s no second chance to make a first impression? The same thing goes for the opening lines of your speech.

There are several ways to grab or capture the attention of the audience from the get-go and I  will share a few with you.

Before, I do, you should know that greeting the audience, followed by a short self-presentation and expression of gratitude forms a part of your mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech.

Now, let's see how to start on a bang.

  • You can tie your introduction to a memorable day in your son’s life. How? For example, if you got married on that same day, you can chip that in or if his birthday falls on his big day.

  • You may begin with a story. Stories about the day he was born and how you felt on that day. No need to include that if the day wasn’t what you were expecting. Dwell on the positive experiences when delivering your lines.

  • You may begin with a quote and I like using quotes a lot to enrich my thoughts.

I promised to give you a few examples, so here are some quotes.

Quote# 1: In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”
– Abraham Lincoln

Quote# 2: Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
– Lao Tzu

Quote# 3: “There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”
– Friedrich Nietzsche

Quote# 4: “The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.”
– Victor Hugo

Quote#5: Love is a friendship set to music.”
– Joseph Campbell

Now, I want to make things much easier for you, so I’d like to use this quote to come up with something short and sweet:

Quote# 4: “The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.”
– Victor Hugo

If I were to use that quote to address the wedding attendees, then it would be:

On a joyous moment like this, you can’t help but agree with writer Victor Hugo that the greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves….

Did you notice how I did that? You can too by imitating how I created those lines out of Victor Hugo’s quotation.

This Is What The Wedding Guests Are Expecting...

Next, you have to get your ideas together for the main part of the speech or the body.

You can decide to write something brief or even follow what most moms prefer: letting their thoughts flow from childhood through adulthood or even concentrate on what makes your son unique.

Whatever your speaking goals are, you should put down your ideas using other resources like wisecracks, jokes, poetry, and even songs.

If you want your message to flow in chronological order, then you can first talk about how you felt when your son was born.

What the grooms mother should say at rehearsal dinner

Do you remember all that happened on that special day? If so, put down those memories.

Besides, you can write down how you felt when he was born. You can also add how his arrival deepened your love bonds.

Here’s a very short example based on those pointers.

For me, it’s a blessing to see both children build their lives with their loved ones.

Well, after Margaret was born, my heart’s desire was to have a son and God blessed me with Dan.

It was a dream come true and I remember on that beautiful day, I felt so loved my whole life…

The next thing you should give thought to is your son’s childhood.

You can use adjectives like happy, active, kind, loving….etc. to describe his formative years.

Believe it or not, there’s nothing wrong with using those adjectives but your words can be made more memorable if you use similes and metaphors instead of adjectives.

Ok, let me illustrate. Which of these two do you think will make the wedding guests super-excited?

  1. Growing up, Alex was very active
  2. As a little boy, Alex was like a shooting star.

Which of these descriptions do you think will blow the guests away?

From the contented look in your eyes, I know you’ve chosen the (b) and that’s a great choice.

You see, anytime you use similes and metaphors, you’re kind of painting a colorful, mental picture in your listener's mind, so use them sparingly if you really want to decorate your message.

Here are a few good ones you can use:

  1. Instead of active, you can say: ''He was a bundle of energy'' or ''He was like a shark''

  1. Instead of daring, you can say: ''He had the heart of a lion cub''

  1. Instead of happy or infectious personality, you can say:'' He was like the first spring rain''

  1. Instead of saying he was precocious, you can say: '' His memory was like a magnet''

  1. Instead of saying he was fun to be around, you can say: '' He was so sweet like a rose''

Please feel free to use any of those descriptions to help you put down your thoughts and emotions into a very short and sweet mom of the groom's dinner speech

What Should I Include Here?

The body is basically your story line. So, please choose which anecdotes you want to share. Those stories should have a positive tone, they should be engaging and should be ideas your son and family members can definitely relate to.

Just as you have to kick start your speech with a bang, you also have to end memorably.

The toast, well-wishes, and advice form this part of your message and you should put in much effort here.

I really don’t you to spend so much on it….So, I am happy to share with you how you can come up with something ingenious.

  1. Can you sing or even play any musical instrument? If you do, then you sing your closing remarks to the beat of a well-known love song.

  1. Marriage poetry or love quotes can also help you write something that tugs at heartstrings.

Here are some poignant quotes you can use:

Love quote#1: ''A good marriage would be between a blind wife and a deaf husband'' -Michel de Montaigne

Love quote#2: ''A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person ''-Mignon McLaughlin

Love quote#3: ''The couples that are meant to be are the ones that go through everything that is meant to tear them apart and come out even stronger.''–

Love quote#4: ''True love is growing as a couple, learning about each other, and never giving up on each other.'' -

Love quote#5: ''You are the answer to every prayer I’ve offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don’t know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have.'' - Nicholas Sparks

Can you use any of that to advise the couple? Of course, you can….wondering how to do just that?

Okay, let me compose something thoughtful with Love quote#4: True love is growing as a couple, learning about each other, and never giving up on each other.

Alex and Amanda, I know you’re looking forward to building your lives together but love’s long, undulating road...

Precious lives have been lost, jobs wiped out and families displaced, leaving everyone wondering what the future holds.

Yet, some sons are still getting married and asking their moms to give speeches.

''It was perfect Dan.  I changed a few things in the speech. And I had several people come up and tell me how well done it was. I couldn't have done it better. Thanks for your help''- Marilyn, Canada
