Want To Say Something Sweet About Your Favorite Friend Or Co-worker But Can’t Seem To Get Started?
Just Follow This Simple Plan And You Will Be Seconds Away From Seeing That Colleague Off With An Amazing Send Off Speech!

People come into our lives for different reasons and purposes. Some do come in for a lifetime. Some for a season and some for a reason
If you’re lucky enough to find a co-worker who is a big blessing, then you really have to thank God for the life of that person.
I guess you have such a friend you can really count on. Probably your friendship even goes beyond the boundaries of the workplace.
Such colleagues are meant to be treasured as life is sometimes too short to spend time with people who make our world go around.
Well, there’s this saying that good people don’t often live that long and that statement holds water if you consider it in the light of working with good workers!
I know you really love that co-worker and you wish he or she could stay a little longer.
But, you just don’t have that power because every worker is looking for greater opportunities for personal and professional advancement.
By the way, did you know that you can do something that will leave a favorable impression on your favorite worker and make everyone notice that you’re a good public speaker?
Really? Yes, you can. Wondering what that is? Giving a beautiful farewell speech!
I know most people hate the idea of speaking before an audience as they have all sorts of experience concerning speaking in public.
Whatever it is, you don’t have to worry because I have been writing speeches for a very long time and I have the time-tested answers to helping you overcome your nerves! So, kiss your worries goodbye!
First, let me ask you this:
Does This ''Mental Ghost'' Scare You?
Do you experience this chilling sensation down your spine whenever you have to address any crowd, no matter how small?
Well, the thing is that I also have the same feeling whenever I grab the mic.
Guess what? It’s a pretty normal feeling you get. But if you are well-prepared, the butterflies in the knot of your belly can work for your good.
How is that possible?
I am pretty sure; you are even thinking you don’t have the skill and gut to stand before your colleagues to give a rousing farewell or goodbye speech for that special friend.
This might be so because you probably couldn’t live up to expectation sometime past when you were asked to address a small crowd of people at a wedding, birthday party…and you’re probably thinking you can’t make any headway this time too.
Well, the good news is you can. You can because I believe in you.
Self-belief is the first step to calming your nerves and getting all set for the task ahead.
It’s perfectly normal to have haunting memories of your past speaking failures.
But, you don’t have to listen to that nudging voice that seems to tell you that you’re not going to make it this time too.
Instead, see yourself in your mind’s eye speaking confidently over and over again.
As you hold that image for a long time, you will be empowered from within. Thus, helping you to speak with poise and clarity. That really is the first step towards making things happen!
With that in mind, let’s now look at ways to get the right words and ideas that will help you write your final address for your loving friend.
Ready? Then, go grab your pen and paper and write down any ideas you find super-useful.

Do You Really Love This?
You love watching good movies right?
Then, here’s what to do now.
First, go to any of the video-sharing platforms and input your search term: farewell speech for co-worker…or a friend or a colleague or whatever
Then, wait for a couple to pop up before hitting on the play button to watch a few.
As you do, jot down nice words and ideas and phrases you find useful and you think can help you express your exact thoughts and emotions into beautiful words.
Please Pick The Brains Of These Wise Men and Women
It is said that the brain of a sage is like a thousand libraries put together and that’s true you know.
Getting wise remarks from one of them can inspire you to write your own speech and below are some wisecracks:
- I like the feeling of finding it difficult to say goodbye to someone because it only means that I have found a true friend. Farewell.
- Monthly targets and performance appraisals will come and go, but the memories of working with a colleague like you will stay in my forever. Farewell.
- Friendship is not about whom you have known the longest or who cares the best it’s about who came & never left.
- Farewell quotes for co-workers -You’ve been great at your work, I am sure that at your new job your performance will be sensational as well.
- Good friends never say goodbye, they simply say “see you soon”
- We started here together and now we’re leaving the same way. The funny thing is you never appreciate what you had yesterday until it is gone today.
- “We laughed until we had to cry, we loved right down to our last goodbye, we were the best.” - St. Elmo’s Fire
- “When I look back now, that summer seemed to last forever, and if I had the choice, I’d always want to be there, those were the best days of my life.” - Bryan Adams
- I’ve learned that goodbyes will always hurt, pictures will never replace being there, thanks is a feeble word, memories forget the hard times, words can never replace feelings, and heroes often go unsung.
- It doesn’t matter if you have five friends or five thousand friends. When it all comes down to it, popularity means nothing. All that matters is that you know those five will be there holding your hand while the five thousand walk by.
- “Can miles truly separate you from friends … If you want to be with someone you love, aren’t you already there?” - Richard Bach
- “Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime. We’ll take the best, forget the rest, and someday will find that these are the best of times.” -Styx
Did you know that we can use some of the above quotes to write something memorable and captivating?
Now, let us illustrate using quote #11: “Can miles truly separate you from friends … If you want to be with someone you love, aren’t you already there?” --- Richard Bach
&
Quote #12: “Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime. We’ll take the best, forget the rest, and someday will find that these are the best of times.”---Styx
Now, here you go:
''You know what? 30 years ago, I came here and it felt like I was a tourist on Mars!
I just didn’t know what to expect and on my first day, I felt quite nervous.
Mike came over the next week and I began to break in sweat.
I was operating this X-RAY machine which looked quite like a tall mountain!
He entered the control, smiled, and said: Hey robots in charge…Is everyone ok?
That got me thinking about what he really meant.
So, I asked Dan and he said: Oh sorry…I forgot to tell you that you are the newest robot on the block. Congrats!
I remember saying to myself: Me…a robot?
As the days, got by, I worked so hard that I was nicknamed: Industrial Robot.
I couldn’t stop laughing when I later got to know that those who work very hard here are all robots of some kind! (pause…laughter)
As the years went by, I began to grow white hairs sooner than I had expected, and they gave me another nickname: Mr. Sage! So, now I was officially called The Robot Sage!
Well, that’s what you experience when you get to work with such a crazy bunch of guys!
I love you people. Miles truly can’t separate us from each other and memories of our friendship will last a lifetime!

Can you do that too? Don’t let me down by saying no. You can!
By the way, did you notice how we picked the underlined words: Miles truly can’t separate us from each other, and memories of our friendship will last a lifetime and make them ours?''
That’s exactly how to borrow and use someone’s quote!

How about Jokes?
Do you realize how the speaker said in the above example that they were all called robots there?
Well, if you relate to each other like family at your workplace, then you can poke fun at your friend before he or she bows out. Please avoid it if you feel you’ll only be embarrassing him or her.
Why ''Fairy Tales'' Would Work For You!
I have come across a lot of farewell speeches and it amazes that only a handful uses stories.
You see, personal anecdotes are the heartbeat of all great speeches.
Do you notice how I used a story when I wrote about the writer’s first experience in the short example we worked on earlier?
Get a pen and paper and write down the following answers to the following questions. Put down as many ideas that come to you.
- How did you feel when your favorite worker first joined your firm?
- How were the early years like?
- Who were the people that made working there very rewarding for him or her? Tell everyone if you were the one and how you did it
- What can you say about him or her that will touch hearts? It could be that he helped make your working life easier or even helped you through a personal tragedy. If you decide to go for the latter, make sure you couch it in a subtle way.
- What are his or her achievements, awards, innovations, etc.?
- What particular trait do you like about him or her that made the workplace fun and lively?
You will find out that by answering these questions above and more, you will be a step away from crafting your draft or even developing your story outline.
So, here’s what I suggest you do right now. Write answers to the above and use it to tell a story chronologically. Don’t worry about how it flows as you can always go back to edit it.

Does This Really Matter?
I don’t know if you are a funny person or not. But, what I do know is that you can always make things very interesting even if you are not a funny person.
How? By tapping into the power of music.
If I were you, I would make my speech song-like using Cher’s Believe hit song ''Believe''
Here are the lyrics anyway
'' [Intro]
After love, after love...
[Verse 1]
No matter how hard I try
You keep pushing me aside
And I can't breakthrough
There's no talking to you
So sad that you're leaving
Takes time to believe it
But after all, is said and done
You're going to be the lonely one, oh oh
[Chorus]
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
[Verse 2]
What am I supposed to do?
Sit around and wait for you?
And I can't do that
There's no turning back
I need time to move on
I need love to feel strong
Cause I've had time to think it through
And maybe I'm too good for you oh oh
[Chorus]
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
[Bridge]
But I know that I'll get through this
Cause I know that I am strong
I don't need you anymore
Oh I don't need you anymore I don't need you anymore
No, I don't need you anymore
[Chorus]
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough, no ‘’
This is obviously a love song but a creative guy can use it to write a heartfelt good message.
Here’s how to do that. Look carefully at the borrowed underlined words. Well, this is a short piece and you can sing-along to Cher’s beat.
''It's so sad that you're leaving
I got my heartbroken when you told me that you are leaving
So sad that you are going….thought it was a dream
You’ve been a great friend…my everything and I can’t just believe you’re going!
But after all, is said and done, I am gonna be the lonely one yet
But I still believe in you…because you are my everything
Well, I just remembered that I have a daughter….and you have a son…their ages are so close
Praying and hoping that they get married someday….
So you become my in-law
But that won’t be soon though
So, just imagine how I feel on this special day!
I hope you could sing along.
That’s not all, you simply can take the words: ''so sad that you’re leaving'' and use it to write something heartfelt as seen below:
''You have worked so hard. Through tireless efforts and sacrifices, you have touched countless lives and restored hope and dignity to the hurting and oppressed, and it’s so sad that you are leaving…I just can’t believe it.
They say life is so short and on your retirement day that saying is so real for sure!''

Wasn’t that beautiful?
Now, let’s look at my all-time favorite scientific-proven plan for writing a perfect sendoff speech the easy way.
Do you know why it’s proven? Because there’s nothing new under the sun and that’s very true considering the fact that anything you want to do has been successfully carried out by someone before.
And so, you shouldn’t attempt to reinvent the wheel in any way.
By using proven farewell speech samples you simply can’t go wrong.
But, make sure you adapt what you find to writing your own speech in a more personalized way.
Now, see this example below by Lei Han
''Team,
I’m now at the end of my journey here at Kearny, but not at the end of our journey together.
I say this because I bring great memories of our company with me and know that we’ll see each other again (at the top)!
It amazes me how much I’ve been able to bond with everyone here so quickly.
I’ve never felt so part of something in such a short amount of time and I truly believe this is a testament to the culture.
Some of my favorite memories (among many):
- Getting our eat on. I always look forward to sitting down and chatting with everyone over lunch. I feel like you can truly get to know diversified groups of people during this time by simply sharing stories over a meal. It doesn’t hurt that the food is pretty awesome 9 out of 10 times either.
- Retreating from the world. The company retreat completely took me by surprise at how memorable this was whether going through team-building exercises in the evening or having discussions (and Ryan’s scotch) back at the “older” house with Ryan, Sadir, Christine, Linda, Kara, and Sasha (ok ok, she’s not one of the old folks, but she has an old soul ;). The ice bucket challenge video was epic too!
- Stumbling home. What can I say? Bonding over drinks is an effective way to get to know people even if I can’t remember everything from all of those nights. I’ve had great discussions whether it be a bunch of us at Local Edition, Brad buying dinner at Chubby Noodle, or me over cocktails 1-on-1 with Brian, Ryan, Sam, Linda, or Kara.
- Everyone lying to me. Demo day is one of those special times where we get to share as a company and get to know each other better. “5 Truths & a Lie” is a phenomenal tool in getting to know each other’s backgrounds in such a short amount of time. I’m fascinated with how many people remember details of the various “5 Truths” presentations. The cocktails going into Friday night give it a little boost too
- Leading me on. Generating quality leads is what I’m passionate about. Geeking out and talking with Alan about new ways of doing this is always interesting to me.
Thanks for the opportunity to work together and for the memories I’ll be taking with me. I’d say good luck, but I don’t believe it’s appropriate here since luck doesn’t play a role in CompanyX success.
Good people + good vision + good execution will decide your bright future ahead.
So before I ride out on the Segway, I leave you all with this quote:
“I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason … by bringing something we must learn. We are led to those who help us grow and, in return, we help them grow.”
This has never been more true for me.
See you all at the top!''
I hope you loved it right?
Have an idea of how best to change this for your colleague?
Well, let me start so you can do the rest as your homework okay? See my changes in red next to the canceled words! I am going to personalize it though.
Team (Mike),
I’m (You’re) now at the end of my (your) journey here at Kearny, but not at the end of our journey together.
