He has taught us that even when he is sleeping, he can still give to others.
It doesn’t stop with our family, the amount of friends he had, and the kind, caring nature that each one of them possesses, is further testament to the type of person he was.
Life without him will never be the same again, it has left a hole that will never be filled, but we have to sometimes just admit that angels are needed back in heaven, after gracing the earth with their presence, and Connor is certainly in that bracket.
You leave behind your Mum, who says: “From the day you were born, you were a gift from God, you picked me up when I was down, made me happy when I was sad, and we had a truly special bond that will never be broken.
“You will forever be in my heart, and I was so proud to call you my son. Sleep well “Flocka” until we meet again.”

The opening remarks of every speech have the power to break the ice and even grab the attention of family, friends and even loved ones if it’s done well. So, you should start and end well.
The opening lines generally do one or more of these things:

It says something about the occasion and the purpose of the gathering.
It brings relief if it you start with something funny.
Sadly, however, most parents don’t begin on a very engaging note because they are accustomed to using what one of America’s foremost bereavement counselors, Dr. Beth L. Hewett refers to as a ‘’ritual’’ or ‘’ceremonial’’ opening in her book: Good Words...
An example of ceremonial is…We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of my son…’’
How To Write A Perfect Introduction
Though such openings are helpful when you don’t know what to say, you can make the impact of your words felt by using one or more of these techniques:
By citing a quotation, poem or song lyrics about loss, hope, son, etc. to begin with.
By relating an anecdote or story about your son…
By making a simple statement of fact
By simply expressing your sentiments about your loss
Now, which of the above will you go for?
All are valid ideas for starting well but I would like to show you a short example of how you can use idea#2: sharing an anecdote…to put down what’s on your heart.
This is it!
One week ago this afternoon, Dan came to see me in our backyard garden, where we usually tell each other stories of our road trips across the country.
His eyes were sunken and I could tell something was wrong with him but he reassured me that he was doing fine.
Well, after talking our hearts for two hours, he hugged and kissed me goodbye and said:
Mom, I am going to call it quits for good after this one last trip so you don’t have to spend sleepless nights thinking about my safety on the highways…
Don’t you think this story will capture everyone’s attention? Your guess is as good as mine.
Don’t you think your son will be so proud of you if you wrote something close to that or even better?
The body usually follows the introduction. Before I show you to write something heart touching, let’s look at excerpts of the speech above.

Here you have to use stories and testimonies that speak volumes about your wonderful son.
To come up with good ideas for this part of your funeral speech, you need to do a little brainstorming.
If your son died at a very young age, you can build your storyline with one or more of these ideas:
How you felt when he came into your life
What your dreams were for him growing up
You can share funny memories
You can share the difference he made in your lives and others (family members, friends-at home and school, etc.)
Things he did that brought joy to your heart…For example, wearing your cowboy hat and pretending he was a cowboy…how he was eager to drive your car when he had his driver’s license etc.
You can share how he felt when he passed away
You can add your hopes and dreams that are lost with your son
Here’s An Example For A Son Who Died Very Young:
I know my life wouldn’t be the same without my little boy. He may have lived a short time but he sure left a beautiful imprint on our hearts and warmed the hearts of people he came into contact with.
I remember we went on vacation in the Middle East; he dressed up like a princess and knocked on the door of another tourist.
When the startled vacationer came out, he saw this little boy who said he was the youngest son of the King of that state and you could tell that by his demeanor that he meant what he said…
Well, if your son died in the prime of his life or at an advanced age,you might have a lot to say because most adults have many life stories you can use to embellish your eulogy.
If you are writing a eulogy for an older son, you can develop your storyline with one or more of these points:
Critical events that shaped his life
Deeds he performed that had a positive influence on you, the family and others
His good attributes( please don’t talk about his bad side)
How and why he will be missed
Now, this is what I want you to do now.
Go grab your pen and paper, recall a few memories based on those answers and make a rough outline for your speech.
By the way, instead of stories, you can use personal virtues like:
His passion
His generosity
His respect, commitment, and dependability
His selflessness and thoughtfulness
His service and kindness
After you’ve done that, pick one virtue that stands out and put down how it impacted your own life, family and those he came into contact with.
Don’t just use adjectives to describe him. Every point you make should be backed up with evidence.
I often see many eulogies laden with so many descriptors without substance.
For example, if you tell us your son is kind, don’t leave it hanging.
You have to support that adjective with a statement of fact
For example, He was kind because he loved to…
Do you see what I am talking about?
Precious mom or dad, your listener’s wants nothing more than a good story about your son.
How To End Your Eulogy Very Well
Once you have drafted the body, it needs a conclusion because it provides a sense of closure and emotional satisfaction about your son’s life.
So, you shouldn’t leave it to chance.
Believe it or not, the finishing lines carry the same weight as the introduction because if you end well, your sympathizers will never forget what you said.
Here are some proven ways to bring it to a close.
Ending with a prayer if you are a Christian or words of hope.
Encouraging people to emulate his attributes.
Calling on God for consolation and blessing.
Thanking those present for their love and support and well-wishes.
You can end on a funny quote.
You can add why you will miss him
