Like you, I badly wanted to give a great wedding speech that would make my friend feel not only proud but also express how much I love and adore her.
But, juggling work and my wedding plans were a real struggle so I could hardly think straight. Besides, I had so many ideas swimming in my head that I didn’t know where to start, let alone find the right words that would express my deepest love and admiration for the bride and his groom.
I Was Totally Helpless
I spent countless hours, sometimes deep into the night, but things didn’t work out as I had hoped for. I finally came up with a rather boring speech. So, I decided to seek some help online and landed on this page you are currently on.
This Helped Me Out!
However, I was skeptical when Dan and his team said they could help get me a great wedding speech even if I hated speaking in public. They say nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, I took a leap of faith when I found out that I didn’t have to pay first to get my speech written. That allayed my fear because I had nothing to lose.
I quickly got started by first filling out this form as I really wanted to make a difference with my speech.
Dan and his team delivered what they promised and I loved it after asking for some edits. When I was called to deliver my speech, the room was dead silent and most of those who knew me were not really expecting much from me because they knew of my past speaking failures.
But I proved them wrong this time around. I spoke with poise, flair, and confidence and everyone was stunned. My friend was so proud of me and she even gave me a warm, loving hug.
Those who thought I'd disappoint got it wrong! Dan and his guys asked me how my speech went afterward and this was the note I sent them after the wedding (Please note: Kindly click on the image below to make it legible)
Li's not the only one we have helped. We helped another nervous person whose testimonial is in his own pen below.

Bridesmaid Speech for Sister Example
I would like to thank Just Ten Things for posting this example. Thank you
“Good evening everyone.
First and foremost, I wanted to extend a heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds. Melanie & Ben, it’s been nothing short of an honor standing beside you today as one chapter of your love story comes to a close and the next begins. I mean it when I say I’m so happy for both of you. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your big day.
Many of you know me, but to those of you who don’t, I’m Jennifer, Melanie’s older sister and Maid of Honor. In all honesty, I can talk just about anyone’s ears off, but give me a microphone in front of a large audience and even I get a little bit of stage freight. That being said I’ll do my best to make this short and sweet with one objective: to cry fewer tears than our mom. Someone check the rain gage!
To Melanie, my sister, my friend. Growing up with you over the past two and a half decades has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Never in a million years did I ever imagine I’d get a little sister and a lifelong best friend in one roll of the dice, but I did, and for that I’m so grateful. I have so much love and respect for you;I hope you know that now and never forget it.
“We have such differing personalities, but at the core we’re so much more alike than we’re willing to admit. We share a lot of the same stubbornness, passion, and genuine desire to shine a brighter light into this world.
We’re both too nosy for our own good, but that’s okay by me. When we fight, we fight hard, but we always come back to each other because we know we couldn’t stand being mad at one another for more than what, an hour? We share little secrets and always say, “Don’t tell anyone yet”, but one or both of us always ends up blabbering to mom because let’s be real, Brandl’s can’t keep secrets.”
As you know better than most, there was never a dull moment in the Brandl household. 1 bathroom for five people meant there was often 1 person showering, 1 person on the toilet, and 1 person at the vanity at any given time. Privacy was a luxury none of us were afforded. Maybe that’s why we’re so close.
“Growing up, we were pretty much inseparable. You always looked up to me as a role model and I tried to be the best one for you. There was, however, one small mishap a time or two. Like when I dared you to stick your tongue to the steel patio railing outside in the middle of winter, promising you it wouldn’t get stuck.
You listened to me and stuck your whole tongue onto the railing and it got stuck so bad I thought we’d have to call 911 to get it off. When we finally got it pulled off, you cried so hard, ran upstairs, and stuck your tongue into a pillow the rest of the night; I felt so bad making you swear you wouldn’t tell dad.
And then there was the time you took a candy bar from the Arpin concession stand without paying for it and I used it as blackmail to get you to do all sorts of stuff for me. When you wouldn’t listen to me, I’d look at you and say “I’ll tell mom about your stealing.” You were so scared to get in trouble and I rode that one out a litttttle longer than I should have. Sorry about that.
We’ve made some of the best memories together, memories that we still laugh and talk about today. As we’ve grown older, we’ve grown to be more inseparable than our younger selves ever were. And it makes my heart so happy to have such a friend in you.
When I went off to college and moved halfway across the country, I know it was hard for both of us. No longer could we hangout every minute of every day. But we learned to fill our void with FaceTime calls (LOTS of FaceTime calls), always there giving each other advice, ranting about something or another, and plotting our next travel destination. ”
“In all of our travels, I will always cherish our Florida sistercation road trip the most. After spending several days relaxing at Clearwater Beach and stopping at every WaWa gas station we passed, we traded the beach views for our first Disney experience. That morning, we left Tampa to drive to Disney (well, I drove, you slept all the way to the Magic Kingdom gates), spent an entire day at the park, then drove to West Palm Beach after Disney’s late night fireworks show.
The drive from Orlando to West Palm Beach was 2 hours and we both agreed to each take a 1 hour driving shift. You offered to go first so I could take a nap before I drove the 2AM shift. Less than 15 minutes later we were doing a Chinese fire drill off some dark highway because I woke up to find you hovering over the steering wheel holding your eyes open as hard as you could. You got in the passenger seat and 5 minutes later, you were snoring. All the way to our hotel. You’re not a very good copilot.
“While I’m sad I can’t always be around all the time, I’m so happy you and Ben found sustaining happiness with each other. Ben, you’ve been around for so long I don’t even remember the first time I met you as Melanie’s official boyfriend. I just remember teasing her once I found out, singing “Mel and Ben sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g”. We welcomed you to the Brandlfam back then, and couldn’t be more excited that you’re still here with us today. Welcome to the family!
It’s been so fulfilling to see the two of you grow together over the years. Ben, I’m so happy knowing my best friend has found the truest kind of love and confidant in you and I couldn’t be more excited to watch the two of you blossom as husband and wife.
As you begin your new journey together, I wish you both the most fun filled life, a life where you grow to love each other more every day, never stop exploring, and always find new, exciting ways to keep the spark ignited.
May you always remember to compromise (and by compromise, I mean do exactly what Melanie wants, when she wants, and how she wants), apologize, laugh it off, and prioritize the needs of one another. You’ve made it this far, there’s no doubt you were meant to be together. I can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight and all the years to come.
So cheers to you, Melanie & Ben, and cheers to love, happiness, and adventures near and far. My only request is that you promise to save a little adventure in life for me. Melanie, I hear you’ve never been to Costa Rica and I see a sistercation in our future. I mean, someone’s got to show you around all the beautiful places I got to see when mom let ME go all those years ago.
Lots of love to both. Cheers! ”
Bridesmaid Speech for Friend Example
I would like to thank WeddingBee.com for posting this example. Thank you
Hello everyone. My name is Natasha, and I am very happy to be here tonight to celebrate the wedding of my dear friend Mary to her new husband Felix. Mary you look absolutely stunning tonight. Felix is one lucky man!
If you don’t know the story, Mary and Felix met each other at her sister’s wedding almost 3 years ago, and it was love at first sight.
No distance could keep them apart, and even from the Dominican Republic, Felix serenaded Mary over Skype and text messages. His charm and sweet words soon won her over, and she took a leap of faith in love and moved to the DR to teach for a year and of course be close to Felix.
And now Mary and Felix, because of the trust you had in each other and in the love that you shared, you are finally able to live and love together as husband and wife, and even in the same country!
To the beautiful bride Mary: we met back in first grade, and I am honored to still be one of your closest friends and celebrate with you on this special day. Typically the maid of honor gives some marriage advice. I am not yet an expert on marriage, but I am an expert on Mary.
I know that Felix will not only be your husband but your new best friend. So Felix I would like to share some insights from Mary’s very old best friend to her new very best friend.
Felix, if you ever upset Mary, just remember that she loves ice cream. And if you really upset her, try French fries dipped in a chocolate shake.
Mary will not be afraid to knock sense into you when she feels necessary. I once said the wrong thing and she threw a pillow at me, which happened to contain a hardbound textbook. Who keeps books in their pillows?
Felix, a word of warning, Mary was a hurdler in high school. So don’t stand in her way, because she can and will jump over you. But only if you can handle caffeine hyped Mary.
If you ever get tired of her talking, just send her out for coffee with some friends. But, only if you can handle caffeine hyped Mary.
Mary is the queen of procrastination, and she seems to do her best work in the middle of the night. Felix, uh, you can take advantage of this…
Felix you are now prepared for all that lies ahead. You have chosen a wonderful woman to be your wife and all I ask is that you take good care of her and always keep her laughing.
Let’s move into action. If you study both examples in great detail, you will realize that both speeches in built on these basic elements:
Introduction or opening remarks
Body or content of the speech
The conclusion or ending of your speech
As with every write-up you will ever find, speeches are built on that structure. So, it makes a sense that you also center your ideas on those same points to make the writing process a breeze.
Having said that, let’s start with….
How to start a bridesmaid speech for your sister or friend
The extract below is the opening lines of the first and second wedding speech.
Please look at the extracts in the first example:
‘’ “Good evening everyone.
Many of you know me, but to those of you who don’t, I’m Jennifer, Melanie’s older sister and Maid of Honor….’’
Compare that to the second example.
‘’ Hello everyone. My name is Natasha, and I am very happy to be here tonight to celebrate the wedding of my dear friend Mary to her new husband Felix. Mary you look absolutely stunning tonight. Felix is one lucky man! ‘’
You will agree with me that’s what we often hear from most bridesmaid at most wedding reception or at the rehearsal dinner. Guess what? They are both good in my opinion. But those opening remarks don’t do a great job to draw the wedding audience into the body of your bridesmaid speech.
Your opening address should entertain and inspire the wedding crowd right from the start. What that means is that you have to put in a great deal of thought and effort into doing just that.
You might be wondering how you can make your opening lines stand out? I am happy to share a few proven ways to make yours unique and special.
First, if you have a great singing voice, you can start off by singing the couple’s favorite song or any other song everyone can sing along to like this talented lady did.
Second, you can start with a fun fact. If the wedding date falls on the day they got engaged, you can let everyone know about this.
Third, there’s a good chance that if the bride or groom is getting married on their birthday, the joy of the wedding day can overshadow the birthday. But, you can still wish them a happy birthday or simply lead your family and friends to sing the celebrant a happy birthday song.
Fourth, you can start on an emotional note by starting with a quote. Any of these quotes can help make your opening remarks very special.
The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.” — Elisabeth Foley
"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get–only with what you are expecting to give–which is everything."–Katharine Hepburn
"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves."–Victor Hugo
"When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."–Nora Ephron
“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves; it is not my nature.”
Jane Austen
Here’s how I would use the underlined quote to write a captivating opener.
I was with Melissa on the mountain when Dan went on one knee and said that Melissa, what are you waiting for? When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you love and care for, you want to rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
I have always known Dan to have a kind heart. So, when he popped the question, tears run down my cheeks. Guess what happened to Melissa?....
Don’t you think this emotional bridesmaid speech will touch the heart of everyone listening to you? She even throws in an element of surprise when she says this:
‘’ Guess what happened to Melissa?’’
Now, let’s get on to….
How To Write The Body Or Content Of Your Bridesmaid Speech
First and foremost, let’s look at this short extract.
‘’ If you don’t know the story, Mary and Felix met each other at her sister’s wedding almost 3 years ago, and it was love at first sight.
No distance could keep them apart, and even from the Dominican Republic, Felix serenaded Mary over Skype and text messages. His charm and sweet words soon won her over, and she took a leap of faith in love and moved to the DR to teach for a year and of course be close to Felix. ‘’
I have reviewed countless wedding speeches and I have come to know that most wedding speakers have great ideas about what to say and what not to say. But, their drafts wind up as a jumble of thoughts that don’t make sense at all.
The trick here is to present your ideas orderly so anyone can fully grasp the depth of your relationship with the bride. But, how can you do that? That’s a great question! Just ponder on these questions and write your answers next to each one.
When did you become friends?
How did you become her friend?
Why did she become your best friend?
What’s been her impact on her life?
What are your fondest memory/memories about your friendship?
How did she feel when she fell in love with the groom?
Let’s do this now: Now, tie up your answers into a short story. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look good on your first try because you can go back and take out what you don’t really need until your speech looks fantastic.
Finally, let’s look at…
How to Write The Closing Remarks Of Your Bridesmaid Speech.
If you’re stumped for ideas to help you wrap up, you can simply end your speech with any of the above examples:
‘’ Felix you are now prepared for all that lies ahead. You have chosen a wonderful woman to be your wife and all I ask is that you take good care of her and always keep her laughing. ‘’
‘’ As you begin your new journey together, I wish you both the most fun filled life, a life where you grow to love each other more every day, never stop exploring, and always find new, exciting ways to keep the spark ignited. May you always remember to compromise (and by compromise, I mean do exactly what Melanie wants, when she wants, and how she wants), apologize, laugh it off, and prioritize the needs of one another.’’
That’s not all. There are other creative and exciting ways of writing a memorable conclusion.
First, you can close with a prayer or a bible verse if you are a Christian or a person of faith. You may end with this bible verse.
I Corinthians 16: 10: Let everything you do be done with love.
Second, are you musically inclined? Why not switch things up by composing a little song based on a solid marriage advice. This funny video would make you fall off your seat….you can probably alter the lyrics just a little bit.
Third, most bridesmaids don’t give gifts to the couple. But if you have something thoughtful to gift the couple, you will be remembered as a kind hearted soul that made the couple smile. Can you put a smile on their face?
Most bridesmaid do this....have you considered it yet? It would help you deliver your wedding speech for your friend or sister. This is the chance to prove to the bride that you really love her.
We can help you make your friend or sister proud and the wedding guests say great things about your speech.
Here’s what one nervous person called Glen sent over after the wedding was over.
Hey Dan, I just wanted to thank you once again for the speech you wrote with me. My goal was met afterward, I was told by many "what a beautiful speech" and received a standing ovation. I couldn't have done this without you. God Bless Dan!- Glen, U.S.A

There’s no doubt that being a bridesmaid is a great honor and privilege because not every lady gets to stand by the bride’s side on her wedding day.
Nonetheless, you have to make sure her wedding day goes off without a hitch. With so much to do on, you might find yourself at the end of the rope when you realize that your bridesmaid speech is not ready yet.
When this occurs, you need not panic as that can cause you a great deal of stress and confusion. Instead, you should remain calm and collected like a piece of cucumber and center your bridesmaid speech or toast around a proven structure or outline(which we are going to delve deep into very soon.)
Before we do that, let’s consider a few things you need to know before you write your bridesmaid speech or toast.
If you have never made a wedding speech before, then it makes sense that you first put yourself in the mood so you can get creative ideas and insights.
You can do that by watching a few videos on your video sharing platform or on youtube.com so you can figure out how it’s done.
Action Tip: Grab your pen and notepad and watch these video clips. As you do, write down tips and ideas you think you can weave into your own script.
Here they are:

Video bridesmaid speech examples are by no means the only resources you can use.
A well-written bridesmaid speech example or template is another option you can look into so you can put together your scattered thoughts and ideas into a very memorable bridesmaid speech for the bride and groom.
The next chapter of this post will highlight a bridesmaid speech template or example. Afterwards, we are going to break it down, look at its structure or outline as the foundation for coming up with the right content for your bridesmaid speech.
I would like to thank Just Ten Things for posting this example. Thank you
Here you go:
Cheers! ”
If you go back and read that bridesmaid speech template or example speech once more time, you will notice that its content is built on these bullet points:
Short-self introductory remarks
How to start your bridesmaid speech
Sharing memories about your friend or sister
Share funny memories you recall/share your up and down moments
Talk about the groom in a positive light
Share how they complement each other
Share marriage advice and your best wishes
How to end your bridesmaid speech
Having seen those points, let’s take each point at a time so we can figure out what really goes into writing a lovely bridesmaid speech or toast.
Let’s look at the first idea:
Short self-introduction
I don’t think that’s so hard to write down, right?
A hint: If you are the sister of the bride, you can mention your parents and siblings and express gratitude for their help and support over the years.
For this part, you can also tell the bride how honored you are to be her bridesmaid.
Homework assignment: Write a few words to introduce yourself as well as some thank you remarks to the bridal party and family and friends.
Let’s look at the second idea:
How to start your bridesmaid speech
For your speech to stand out from the pack, you have to start on a bright note as that gives your audience the first impression that you are worth listening to.
There’s nothing wrong with starting the way Jennifer did as that’s most bridesmaid do. But, we can always kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
So, how then can you impress your family and friends right from the start? Here are some tried and tested ideas to do just that.
You can start with a memorable story because our brains are hardwired for narratives. We think in stories, remember in stories, act in stories and turn just about everything we experience into a story. So, if you have a great story to share, do so by all means.
You may share a fun fact about your friendship. I once wrote a maid of honor speech where the friend of the bride said they used to play this weird kind of game when they were teenagers. Well, I didn’t get it. So, I asked her to act it out like a stage performer and she did. She came back to tell me it made her speech even more memorable.
If you want to sound witty or start on an emotional note, you may start with a quote about finding love, friendship, or even marriage.
Here are some quotes or liners you can insert right into your speech.
‘’Love isn't about finding the perfect person. It's about realizing that an imperfect person can make your life perfect." — Crystal Ball
"Love isn't finding someone to live with. It's finding someone you can't live without." — Al E. Gater
"Love isn't something you find. Love is something that finds you." — Loretta Young
"Hope for love, pray for love, wish for love, dream for love…but don’t put your life on hold waiting for love." — Mandy Hale
The art of love... is largely the art of persistence." — Albert Ellis
Now, let’s see we can use any of that to write the opening lines or remarks of your bride’s maid speech.
Here it is.
I once read this quote that says that love isn’t finding the perfect person. It’s about realizing that an imperfect person can make your life perfect….This quote perfectly captures who this couple is, what they have been through, and thus far they have come….
Now, don’t you think everyone will be eager to hear their love story? Can you make the most out of those quotes or nice ones you’ve found elsewhere or with those I shared above?
If you have a good singing voice, you can probably do it like this gal did. If you give it a try, you will end up stealing the show like these ladies did.
We are not done yet…Let’s consider this idea too:
Sharing memories about your friend or sister
Your bridesmaid speech or toast should highlight the good and the bad times you’ve spent with the bride. If you are her sister, then you obviously have lots of stories to share with the guests.
Nonetheless, it’s a real struggle for most bridesmaids to say what’s on their mind because they have so many ideas and don’t know where to start.
This simple plan can help you out. So, put on your thinking cap and answer these simple questions.
What was the feeling like when your sister was born? (this is applicable if you are the sister of the bride)
When and how did you first meet the bride? (applicable if you are the friend of the bride…can also be used if you are her friend)
What’s her impact on your life?
Do you have funny/fond memories to share?(just share one or two memorable ones)
When did she first tell you about the groom?
How has her life turned around ever since the groom came into her life?
What You Can Do Now: I hope you have written down answers to those questions? Ok…now, go back and read the written example for inspiration and guidance and then try to write a rough draft which you can always go back to amend.
The game is still on…so, let’s look at the next idea:
Talk about the groom in a positive light
Ask yourself:
What can I say about the groom? Is he kind, loving, and compassionate? If so, please write down his positive traits.
What has been his influence on the bride’s life since they became lovers? Please write it down.
Here’s an example:
I’m also excited to find that there is someone
out there who was able to expand my sister’s pallet! Up until Jim met Michelle, she basically
ate nothing green. She would never try anything new, you get the picture.
Jim and his family have convinced him to try all kinds of different vegetables, and even eat fish!
Why do you think he’s a good match for your sister or friend?
Do you have a memorable story to share about him?
What were your first impressions when you first met him?
Please note: If you don’t know him too well, just say this: ‘’ you are happy that the bride has found someone who loves her to the moon and back ‘’
A word of advice: Even if you are not so fond of the groom, you don’t have to mention it. Also, make sure you cast the bride in a positive light and refrain from talking about stuff that will embarrass her or the groom.
One more thing…
Share how they complement each other
In what ways do the bride and groom balance each other out?
Here are tips to help you get some good content for this part of your bridesmaid speech or toast.
What does the bride like? What does the groom hate?
What are their shared interests? Here, you’d realize that the groom might love soccer and the bride’s favorite pastime might be reading.
Do they like to dress alike?
What are their favorite meals?
Now, let’s look at the next idea:
Share marriage advice and your best wishes
If you are not yet married, you can just deliver some best wishes for the couple.
Here are a few examples
I’m sure that your marriage is the greatest decision you’ve ever made. You are a match made in heaven. I can’t wait to see your beautiful babies! Oh, is it too soon? Anyway, congratulations on your marriage!
Congratulations on becoming husband and wife! I’m really excited for you.
Finally, let’s look at
How To End Your Bridesmaid Speech
Aside from closing your speech with best wishes, there are also many ways of ending your bridesmaid wedding speech on a very memorable note.
First, if you are a person of faith or a Christian, you may end with a few verses from the bible or a prayer for the couple.
1 Corinthians 13: 1-13
New International Version
13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Second, you can end on an emotional or romantic quote by using quotes like this one:
This famous line is spoken by Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) to Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) at the end of When Harry Met Sally (directed by Rob Reiner, 1989).
"When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
Third, you can actually give them a thoughtful gift. You probably can look for quotes about love or words of advice and frame it and gift it to the couple.
