Wedding Welcome Speech By Father Or Mother Of The Groom

Are you looking for tips and ideas to help you write an amazing wedding welcome speech as your son gets married to that special person in his life? Just stick with me for just a little while and I will share with you ideas to help you write a really good wedding welcome speech.

M5

Have you ever heard a father or mother of the groom welcome wedding rspeech that made your day?  I don’t remember ever hearing one that tugs at the heartstrings. Have you?

Let’s face it. A whole lot of welcome wedding speeches you hear at wedding receptions or rehearsal dinner are plain boring.  I have yet to hear any parents of the groom's wedding welcome speech that left an impact on the guests.

I am sure it is because we have become  so used to hearing the same wedding welcome speeches repeated over and over again that we have all become numb to the importance of making great father or mother of the groom wedding welcome speeches.

You don’t have to leave the fun to those who will be making speeches. You can add fun and excitement to your wedding welcome address by being creative and people will remember you for putting on a great performance despite the brevity of your message.

Wedding welcome speech by father of the groom

Well, let’s look at two wedding welcome speeches given by fathers or mothers.

Here’s a wedding welcome speech example by the father of the groom.

‘’ Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am Dan the father of the groom and I have the pleasure to welcome you to the rehearsal dinner of my son and daughter-in-law. I know most of you have traveled from far and near to be with us tonight. I say thank you for your time and presence....

Now. let’s see this second wedding welcome speech by the mother of the groom.

‘’Good evening, precious ladies and gentlemen.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you truly love someone, the most precious gift you can give them is your support and presence.

I know many of you have overcome all odds to be with us here tonight and I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has come from all over the place to celebrate with our lovely couple.  Once upon a time, a group of people was invited to a wedding party….’’

Which of these examples do you think will grab the attention of the guests and pique their interest? Congratulations if you said it was the second example.

In this post, I am going to share with you how you can write a sweet father or mother of the groom wedding reception or rehearsal dinner welcome speech even if you don’t have a way with words or are a very shy person.

That being said, let us look at one issue that stands in the way of most speakers and how you can make things work together for your good.

Days before they give their wedding speeches, some parents of the groom ask us for help. I can always sense from the messages they sent me how nervous they are.

A whole lot of them have allowed nervousness to hold them captive that they cannot put together something short and simple.

Guess what though?  That feeling is not a bad omen per se. But you can always channel what you think it’s a pointless force into something remarkable by looking at the bright side of life.

Many of us have failed to impress our audience when we were asked to give brief remarks and they get haunted by that memory.

But you shouldn’t dwell too much on stuff that have occurred in the past. Rather, you should first believe with all of your heart that you can make a difference no matter how many times you have failed to live up to expectations.

You see, you are the product of your own imaginations. You can break through the negative blocks holding you back by constantly holding a positive image of yourself speaking confidently like a pro.

As you keep at it, you will be empowered to speak with grace and power even if you are extremely nervous like a church mouse.

Having said, let us consider how to get the right ideas for your wedding welcome speech at your son’s wedding or rehearsal dinner.

You see, good examples are the backbone of all great wedding welcome speeches. Nonetheless, most parents of the groom don’t take proper advantage of this indispensable tool at their disposal. The few who do, copy such examples without actually making them their own.

Well, if you look online, you will find two kinds of examples: video and written examples.

The visual examples are meant to give you an idea of what to expect as you decide what to say, when to say it, and what not to say.

There are such samples online and all you have to do is to do a quick internet search to find it.

Youtube.com is replete with examples of such video clips. Now, this is what I want you to do now.

Go grab your pen and note pad and watch the videos I have for you right after this text. As you do, put down thoughts and ideas that you feel can help you organize your thoughts coherently.

Did you find some nuggets that can help enrich your welcome remarks?

Now, let us look at the simple and ingenious way of writing and making great father or mother of the groom wedding welcome speeches.

M4 (1)

Have you ever thought of simply writing your speech as you want it and then make music out of it?

That will certainly make your speech very enjoyable and memorable if you sing it so well to the beat of a song everyone can sing along to. If your voice is as hoarse as mine, please stay away from it.

Again, you can mix your speech with some bible verses if you are a strong believer or a person of faith.  There’s nothing wrong with spiffing up your welcome address with some words from the scripture. But if you do, then make sure you sound sincere. You don’t have to force it if you are not a church person.

If you want to go this route, then you can use this verse from the bible:

Psalm 100

King James Version

100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Have you also thought of starting with a funny quote or a good joke? You might consider that if you want to make a funny wedding welcome speech.

Additionally , you can flatter your guests by complimenting them on their good looks. They sure will appreciate your kind words a lot if you do that.

This isn’t done but you can make the wedding guests laugh out loud if you render your toast in another language. Suppose, your daughter-in-law is from another country, you can learn a few phrases in her native tongue and use that to give your welcome remarks.

For example, if she is from France, you can do part of your address in French and the other half in English. It doesn’t have to be perfect. As long as you string a few words together, the bride’s family will like it a lot, particularly those who have made the trip from overseas.

Morever, you can start with how love brings people together by using a few quotes. Here are some heartfelt love quotes you can employ.

''You know it’s love when all you want is that person to be happy, even if you’re not part of their happiness.'' — Julia Roberts

''Love is like a virus. It can happen to anybody at any time.''

– Maya Angelou

''There is only happiness in life, to love and to be loved''- George Sand

‘’The greatest gift in life is our ability to love. Not in our capacity to receive it, but in our power to give it. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving. And what's more special, is that you already own it. You've had it your entire life — just the way you are. Now it's true, the ones we love always seem to hurt us the most. But one of the best lessons I’ve ever learned, is to accept people for who they are. To just love them — for exactly who they are. You can't change someone.’’- The Incredible Existence of You   Movie

‘’Love conquers all difficulties, surmounts all obstacles, and effects what to any other power would be impossible.’’- William Godwin

Using Godwin’s quote, we can write something like this

I know many of you have defied the odds in order to be here with us. I am indescribably thankful to everyone who has come from all over to help us celebrate the marriage of Dan and Melissa.

I want to thank you for that as your coming here has shown that love can overcome every obstacle.

Did you notice how I did that?

Furthermore, you can lace your remarks with welcome or hospitality quotes. Below are some thoughtful quotes you may use.

‘’The ornaments of your house will be the guests who frequent it.’’
-Unknown Author

‘’Hospitality is making your guests feel at home, even if you wish they were.’’
-Unknown Author

‘’People will forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.’’  - Maya Angelou

‘’Hospitality is making your guests feel at home, even if you wish they were.’’ - Justine Vogt

Any celebration meal to which guests are invited, be they family or friends, should be an occasion for generous hospitality. - Julian Baggini

Can you use at least of the lines above to come up with a very short but meaningful father of the groom wedding welcome speech? Just give a try.It is not as hard as you think.

Again, you can use stories about the power of love or even love quotes to set the ball rolling.

It may be a story about your own life, your family, and what the lovely couple has been through to achieve this beautiful milestone together.

M3

People are able to relate to stories like that. If it’s been a particularly tough year, you can still use the opportunity to thank the guests for making it. They will appreciate it a lot more than when the ‘’weather is fair ‘’and everything seems to be going on as planned.

Finally, you can start with a poem that rhymes or not.  But have got to be creative here if you want this to go down well.

I saw this poem by William Browne and it can work if you are a good writer.

WELCOME, welcome! do I sing,
Far more welcome than the spring;
He that parteth from you never
Shall enjoy a spring for ever.

He that to the voice is near
Breaking from your iv'ry pale,
Need not walk abroad to hear
The delightful nightingale.
Welcome, welcome, then...

He that looks still on your eyes,
Though the winter have begun
To benumb our arteries,
Shall not want the summer's sun.
Welcome, welcome, then...

He that still may see your cheeks,
Where all rareness still reposes,
Is a fool if e'er he seeks
Other lilies, other roses.
Welcome, welcome, then...

He to whom your soft lip yields,
And perceives your breath in kissing,
All the odours of the fields
Never, never shall be missing.
Welcome, welcome, then...

He that question would anew
What fair Eden was of old,
Let him rightly study you,
And a brief of that behold.
Welcome, welcome, then...

I can make something short out of this. Here you go:

When I look into your eyes I see love

Love for a couple who knows how to love

It has been tough throughout this year

But you have shown that love and care

Is the best defense there is

Thanks for coming and we are going to pay you back for showing us some good love.

Matron Of Honor Speech or Toast For Your Friend Or Sister

Are you looking forward to writing the best ever matron of the honor speech or toast for your friend or sister at her wedding?

It’s actually how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that you were tying the knot with the love of your life and your friend or sister was so happy.  It is her turn to exchange promises with the man she cannot live without.

You have been there before and you can imagibe the joy welling up in her as she envisions how her wedding day will be like as well as how her future life with her husband will play out in the long run.

Matron of honor speech

Since you are already married, you have a lot to tell her about how weddings are planned and what to expect. Of all your responsibilities, one you shouldn’t look down on is how to write a matron of honor speech that will make your friend or sister proud.

Unfortunately, so many matrons don’t attach much seriousness to it as they wait until a few days or even hours to the wedding day to write something.

Whenever I mention wedding speeches, most people almost freak out because they feel they don’t have what it takes to write an amazing speech for their sister or friend.

Contrary to what most matrons of honors think, you don’t have to have good writing skills or good public speaking skills to come up with something sweet for your sister, friend, or cousin.

All you need is a heart to believe that you can make it in spite of your perfections. If you ever goofed big time when you were asked to give a few remarks, then you are probably going to feel some butterflies in your tummy or experience abnormal heartbeats when you imagine how your toast will go.

It gets even worse if you have a poor track record of speaking in public or you are absolutely terrified of speaking in public. But you don’t have to lose hope because you can channel your nervousness into productive energy by letting go of past failures and repeatedly picturing yourself speaking confidently in front of your friend or sister and the wedding crowd.

As long as you keep at it, you will experience this new surge of energy that will flow from within your heart. Thus, equipping you with the strength necessary to face the crowd and help you turn the tide around.  That, in essence, is the first preparatory step towards writing a great matron of honor speech toast for your friend or sister.

Having said that, let’s look at the second step to consider before you put down your thoughts and ideas coherently.

You might fail to impress if all you do is quickly put your thoughts together. That is not the way to go.

You should approach this task like a tourist about to travel to his or her next destination. What this means is that you have to first figure out how matron of honor speech toasts are given.

Matron of honor toast examples can give you a perfect idea of what to say and what not to say.

So, this is what I recommend you do now. Grab your pen or notepad and write down ideas you find extremely helpful as you watch a sample video on youtube.com or on your favorite video sharing platform.

Here you go: watch, enjoy, and learn from both clips.

I hope you enjoyed listening to both clips. Did you?  Well, I found this written speech example for you. So, let’s study it carefully and see how we can make the most out of it.

Matron Of Honor Speech Example For Friend or Sister

Liz… I’m so happy to be here today as your maid of honour, and to be able to tell everyone here how perfect Liz and Mike are for each other.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m Michelle, best friend of Liz’s for nearly 20 years. We were in 6th grade when we first met, and bonded because we were both going through our cringy anime phase together (and are still going through). She was obsessed with the anime Gundam Wing and I was a weird, nerdy kid who happened to like it too.

You were by my side on my actual wedding day as my maid of honour, and now I am by yours, finally getting to see you walk down the aisle to the man of your dreams.

I never would have thought that this friendship that started from passing notes in class and doodling anime boys to one another would be my most treasured and long-lived friendship.

But it wasn’t hard, since, over time, I learned that Liz is one of the most dedicated and loving people you will ever meet.

When she decides to be loyal to someone, she will put her whole heart into it. I really could go on and on about how wonderful she is, and god knows I have many stories of our shenanigans, from anime and boy drama through middle school and high school, to drunken all-nighters and Anime Expos in college.

But when I think about our friendship, I like to recall us sneaking off to the apartment pool one night because summers in Riverside are hot as hell even after sunset. We dipped our feet in the water and gushed about being at each other’s weddings and even having kids around the same time so our kids could be best friends like us (OR MAYBE MORE…). And here we are now…

You were by my side on my actual wedding day as my maid of honour, and now I am by yours, finally getting to see you walk down the aisle to the man of your dreams.

And I know there’s no man more worthy of your love and intense loyalty than Mike.

I watched their relationship bloom, from cute virtual dates in World of Warcraft to sneaking off to Disneyland during the summer, and I saw that both of them were romantics who genuinely wanted to make it work.

Liz has always had a type – she loves the cool, mysterious, quiet types with good jawlines. In Mike’s case, his cool exterior as they got to know each other in high school was likely him just being socially awkward and shy.

But I watched their relationship bloom, from cute virtual dates in World of Warcraft, to sneaking off to Disneyland during the summer, and I saw that both of them were romantics who genuinely wanted to make it work. And I know you both worked your asses off to make it work.

Few people realize how many challenges you two overcame to be together and stay together. You were long-distance for half of your relationship – over high school AND college, across the country, from California to Ohio. That’s a huge accomplishment.

People change so much from those ages, become totally different people with different goals. Yet Liz and Mike made it work. They grew together and always, always made an effort to intertwine their lives together.

They never stopped communicating, never stopped dating each other, even when they finally closed the distance. This is a couple that still kiss and hug and look at each other like love-struck teenagers several years later...

As Liz’s roommate, I can tell you she was always on the phone or webcam with him. She’d lovingly craft comics and art of them two to send in care packages to him, and I remember Mike drawing something for her, even though he’s not the drawing type, and running it by me for the sake of reciprocating her love.

And they kept this up for years. They never stopped communicating, never stopped dating each other, even when they finally closed the distance. This is a couple that still kiss and hug and look at each other like love-struck teenagers several years later, yet have the confidence and intimacy of one that’s grown old and wise together.

Liz and Mike, as a couple, you two are exactly where you should be. To the happy couple and their happily ever after!

As someone who has watched their relationship from the very beginning, you two truly embody a piece of advice I once heard about marriage: “A wedding ceremony should only, ever and always, be an affirmation that the relationship is where the couple wants to be, and a promise to keep it like that.”

Liz and Mike, as a couple, you two are exactly where you should be. To the happy couple and their happily ever after!

I loved this speech for its shortness and I really love how it ended.

Without further ado,  let us look at..

How To Easily Write Your Matron of Honor Speech

As you can see from the example we just looked at, there are three parts of every wedding speech examples and they comprise the following elements: introduction, the body, and the conclusion.

How to write matron of honor speech

The introduction is the first part of that sample and it consists of two parts: introduction (part a) and introduction (part b)

Introduction (a) is where you greet the guests, express appreciation to friends and family of the groom and bride for coming, and indicate your relationship with your sister or friend.

Below is an extracted example from what we saw above:

Liz… I’m so happy to be here today as your maid of honour, and to be able to tell everyone here how perfect Liz and Mike are for each other.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m Michelle, best friend of Liz’s for nearly 20 years. We were in 6th grade when we first met, and bonded because we were both going through our cringy anime phase together (and are still going through).

This part of the speech is fairly easy to write. So, let me ask you this simple question: Which persons do you want to say thank you for everything they have done for the bride?

Action Tip: You may mention people like her friends, siblings if you are close enough to them, her parents if you are her sister, and so on. You just have to do a little brainstorming to come up with their names and state why you are thanking them.

Now, let’s go on to the next section of our introduction (part b)

If you scroll up this page, you will notice that I intentionally underlined the following words: We were in 6th grade when we first met….

After you have said your words of gratitude, you should dive right in with words that will grab the attention of the wedding guests from the very beginning. Most matrons of honors simply begin by saying how and when they met the bride.

While there is nothing wrong with that tried and tested approach, you can make your introductory remarks a little bit different than those we often hear at most wedding receptions since this part of your toast is like a man who has seen the love of his life for the very first time.

First impressions count a lot and I am happy to share with you proven and creative ways you can start on a very memorable note.

First, if you are not someone who appreciates novelty, then you can simply go with the usual flow by sharing how and when you met the bride and you will have no regrets at all.

Second, you can start with a beautiful quote about friendship or sisterhood. Ok, here are a few of such quotes.

''A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.” – Isadora James

''Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make  our souls blossom.''- Marcel Proust

''For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather'' – Christina Rossetti

''A good friend is like a four-leaf clover; hard to find and lucky to have.''- Irish Proverb

''Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life, you can barely remember what life was like without them.''- Anna Taylor

''True friends are like a diamond—bright, beautiful, valuable and always in style.''- Nicole Richie

I want to give you an idea of how to use quotes to write something captivating:   Below is a short example based on that Irish proverb:

Now, let’s get started

There is this Irish proverbs that says that a good friend is like a four-leaf clover; so hard to find and lucky to have.

Melissa and I have been best friends since childhood and I must say that she is so hard to find like a four leaf clover.

That’s exactly how to make good use of quotes if you decide to sprinkle a few throughout your presentation.

Third, you can burst out into a song if you are a musically gifted person. This always works all the time even if you have prepared a not-so great wedding speech. Who doesn’t appreciate listening to a good song? You do, right?

Fourth, you can make your matron of honor speech sound funny by starting with a good joke. (Please don't include inside jokes that only you and the bride will understand)

Now, let us see...

How To Write The Content Or Structure Of Your Matron of Honor Speech

The body of your wedding toast for your friend or sister comes after the introduction and it is usually a summary of your relationship with the bride. That’s not hard to write. But the problem here lies in distilling so many years of friendship into a short five-minute account or so.

Well, there are a few things you have to consider before you create an outline for your remarks.

First and foremost, you have to pick a style.

Part of making a great matron of honor speech is picking a style that reflects who you are and not what you have seen others do.  Some people attend weddings and hear funny speeches and decide when they are getting married someday, they are going to make one.

But that shouldn’t be the case because we are not the same. Our personalities are different and each person is special in their own right.

What this means is that you do something you are comfortable with. Depending on who you are, you can choose to write in a witty style, intelligent, dramatic, tender, poetic, rhythmic, narrative, and even funny. If you go for a style that’s unique to you, the wedding guests will be able to relate better to what you have to say.

So, try as much as possible to find something in yourself that expresses who you are instead of just being a copycat.

After you have found your own voice, you can create a rough draft using answers to the following questions:

How did you meet your friend or sister?

When did you meet her? Hint: If you are her big sister, you can share how you felt when she was born

What were the early years like when you were much younger?

What impact has your sister or friend had on your life? Hint: If you are her big sister, you can share how she’s been a blessing in your life

Any fond memories you wish to share?

Hint: You can do a little brainstorming and come up with stories or anecdotal highlights of the time you both spent during trips, vacations, school, and so on

What did you feel when she told you about the groom? Hint: If you were not so keen on her choice of spouse, please don’t mention it.

Do you know the groom very well?

Hint: If you do, then you can share so many wonderful stories about him.

If you are the bride’s sister, you can say how happy you are to have him in your family

You are advised to put down as many details as you can remember about how your years of friendship has been like over the years. Then, you can narrow it down by picking good stories you think can help you develop the theme of your wedding toast for your friend or sister.

Matron of honor speech examples

After all, is said and done, you can start putting your scrambled thoughts together. You will notice as you finally put your speech togetherthat it will look messy on paper on your first try.

But don’t let that put a damper on how your words will flow because you can always go back to edit it until you are okay with it.

If for some reason, you are still not happy with your final output, you can let someone you trust give their honest opinions on your work.

Now, let us see…

How To End Your Matron of Honor Toast On A Happy Ending

Let us once again extract the concluding remarks of the example we are reviewing as it can guide us on how best to write an ending that will stay on the minds of the wedding attendees for a long time to come.

‘’ Liz and Mike, as a couple, you two are exactly where you should be.

These are heartfelt closing remarks by all standards. Can you write something similar to that if not better? You better it a try because it’s an extremely easy task.

Having said that, below are simple ways of ending well.

First, if you or the couple are very devoted believers in God, you can pick a verse or two from the scriptures to write a faith-based ending.  Here are a few verses from the bible you can employ

Ecclesiastes 4:9: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?"

Ephesians 5:25-33: "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, ..."

1 Corinthians 13: 4-13

New International Version

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love

Second, you can wrap up with a touching or heartfelt poem by Ilona M Blake

Today will be perfect
In every single way.
A beautiful fairy tale
For your wedding day.
The theme of your day
Is to have love and laughter
And to live your days
Happily ever after.

Living happily is
What we need to survive,
So how does one keep
The magic alive?
How do you light a spark
That never goes out?
And how does one live a life
Without fear or doubt?

How do some people manage
To keep their love strong?
And how do some couples
Always feel like they belong?
What do you need to do
To stay in love forever
And make each day special
And grow fonder together?

Well, these very questions
You must address every day.
You must take the time
To go out of your way,
To always share love
And always share laughter,
To do whatever it takes
To live happily ever after.

Here is a recipe
I think is a must,
So let's begin with
Always having trust.
Don't forget it's important
To have total respect,
And to always stay loyal
To keep your love perfect.

You must communicate
Each and every day.
Three special little words
You must never forget to say,
"I love you." It's amazing
How these words make you feel
Happy, safe, and valued,
And they will keep your love real.

A simple act of kindness
Goes a long, long way.
Blend it with understanding
And you can't go astray.
Don't forget friendship.
It will help you to cope.
Add a sprinkle of faith
And an abundance of hope.

Remember your smile.
It is beautiful to see.
It can brighten one's day.
It can make you feel free.
So my wish for you both
Is you always have love and laughter,
And I pray that you will enjoy
Your happily ever after.

I just want to show you how we can use the underlined words to write a short piece of advice.

Dan and Melissa, just want to say that all you need as you embark on this journey are two things: patience and forgiveness

So, in good times and bad, always hold on to each other, love and laugh together, and be each other’s keeper because there’s nothing you can’t achieve if you value each other deeply.

Did you notice how I spiced up that example with the lines of the poem above?

Again, you can end by proposing a toast if you have nothing at all to say or the other recommendations won’t work for you.

Here are some heartfelt quotes from movies and television series you can use to end your matron of honor speech.

“Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away”

― Will Smith

“Love is passion, obsession, someone you can’t live without. If you don’t start with that, what are you going to end up with?” – Meet Joe Black

“I love you very much, probably more than anybody could love another person.” – 50 first dates

“They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops and that’s true. What they don’t tell you is that when it starts again, it moves extra fast to catch up.” – Big Fish

The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.” – The Notebook

Dear Anxious Bride,

I am Wendy,

Like you, I badly wanted to give a bride's wedding speech that will make my husband feel proud and show him how much I adore him.

But, juggling work and the wedding plans were a real struggle so I could hardly think straight.

Besides, I had so many ideas swimming in my head that I didn’t know where to start from, let alone the right words that will express my deepest love for the love of my life.

I Was Totally Helpless

I spent countless hours, sometimes deep into the night, but things didn’t work out as I had hoped for. I finally came up with a rather uninspiring speech. So, I decided to seek some help online and I landed on this page you are currently reading.

This Helped Me Out!

However, I was skeptical when Dan and his team said they could help give a great wedding speech even if I hated speaking in public.

Well, I took a leap of faith when I found that I didn’t have to pay first to get my speech written. That allayed my fear because I had nothing to lose.

Quickly, I got started by first filling out this form as I really wanted to make a difference this time. Dan and his team delivered what they promised and I loved it after asking for some edits.

When I was called to deliver my speech, the room was dead silent and most of those who knew me were not really expecting much from me.

But I proved them wrong this time around. I spoke with poise, flair, and confidence this time!!!!

My husband was so proud of me and gave me a loving hug.

Those who thought I'd disappoint got it all wrong!!!! Dan and his guys asked me how my speech went afterward and this was the note I sent them after the wedding.

'' Hi Dan, thank you for your time and effort''

Most grooms become so fixated on their past speaking failures that they tend to doubt if they can turn things around and do their wives proud.

It gets very intimidating if you have a poor track record of speaking in public or you're not so good with words.

That self-awareness could magnify your fears and set you up for failure if you don’t dwell on the brighter side of things. The fact you got humiliated when you last made a presentation doesn't in any mean that you are not going to survive this one too.

Groom rehearsal dinner speech examples

You see, from time to time, memories of your past speaking failures would come back to haunt and remind you of your insecurities.

But, you have got to pay no heed to that nagging voice because you are endowed with the gift of ''recovery.'' ''Recovery'' in the sense that you can start all over again even if you have failed countless times. So, please don’t fear!

Just plan something out and keep saying to yourself that you can make your wife and family and friends proud with your groom’s rehearsal dinner toast. I believe in you and I know you can make it.

After getting mentally alert, you have to turn your attention to getting the right ideas for your groom speech, and wedding samples that can help you in this regard.

There are actually two kinds of examples (video and written) that can inspire you to come up with something unique and memorable. Watching video speech examples complement written groom speech examples. They have similar values and structures. The former actually enables you to write the latter.

Having said that, let us look at two groom rehearsal dinner speech videos you can watch to give you an idea of what to expect before you write your speech for the bride.

There are several examples on youtube.com you can watch and learn from to help you put your thoughts down on paper. But I have specifically chosen the ones below due to their sentimental and humorous nature.

So, please go grab your pen and journal and write down ideas that you find handy as you watch both clips.

Well, I enjoyed watching both clips and I hope you did too? At this point, I want to show a well-written piece.

So, here it is...

A Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Example You Can Study To Inspire Your Own Creative Writing

Good evening and I am so happy to see you all here on the eve of our wedding. What a joy it is to see Anita and I surrounded by loving family and friends.

I thought of not saying. But I understand there are some professional wedding here with us tonight. So, for those of you who don't know me, I am Mike and that’s my soon-to-be bride Alice. She is actually my first and last girlfriend.

Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love binds two lives and hearts together and makes them feel a sense of completeness.

That’s exactly what Alice and I have experienced since we met and became best friends.

When I first met her two years ago at Manly Beach, I knew that I had found the most perfect woman ever who touched all of my senses and fill every corner of my heart.

We clicked right off the bat and I vividly recall how I looked into her eyes that evening and said I’ll look after her. As our friendship blossomed, we found out we had a lot of common interests and shared similar goals, dreams, and aspirations.

We both loved to drive the same cars and support the same football team! I still remember how she would come over to watch me play and yell get off him whenever I got tackled!  We also liked dressing the same.

If I was wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, she would be wearing the same thing---just different shoes.  The good thing is she’s just like a girl version of me!

By the way, I really enjoyed every minute spent with her as she’s very loving, polite, caring, and supportive and I know for sure that she will be an amazing wife and mom.

They say you don’t marry someone you can live with-you marry the person who you can’t live without and I think that sums us up perfectly why I couldn’t imagine her not being part of my life forever.

But I had to convince her of that fact; and as you might imagine, that is no easy feat for most guys! Yes, I can tell you for a fact that it’s not an easy thing at all!

But I plucked up the courage and took her to Port Mac where I popped the question.

Groom rehearsal dinner speech

My heart was beating so fast as I got down on one knee. So, when she agreed to marry me.  I felt like a sprinter who has won an Olympics gold medal in record time!

Alice, It feels like only yesterday when I looked into your eyes and said I’ll look after you.

Little did I know we will come thus far. Scripture tells us that true love is kind, patient, not self-seeking, and it always protects, always trusts, hopes, and perseveres.

As a matter of fact, you’re a pure, absolute embodiment of that true love!  There have been many moments when we’ve both been hit with challenges that seem like a mountain---tall and steep---with no end in sight and no relief coming our way.

But you stood by me, supported and encouraged me as she believed with your whole heart that it would take an eternity to break us!

Today, however, the happiness that we share together is incomparable to any other thing we’ve ever been through.

I’m completely overwhelmed at how amazing you look today, and can’t believe how privileged I am that you’ve chosen to be my wife.

I know now stronger than ever that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I can imagine us growing old together still madly in love and that fills me with unspeakable delight.

Thank you for agreeing to marry me and making me feel loved and complete in every respect. From tomorrow until the end of time, I promise to love you, still look after you and make sure the beautiful smile on your face lasts for the rest of our lives together!

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to join me in toasting family and friends and especially, Alice for making me the happiest man ever!

Alice, I love you today, I will love you tomorrow and forever.

M5

I hope you learned a thing or two from that sample. By the way, let’s look closely at what went into writing that short groom’s rehearsal dinner speech example.

If you study it carefully, you will notice that there are three parts to it: introduction, body, and conclusion.

Your introduction is the first part of your speech and it comprises the following elements: expression of gratitude and a great opener that will capture the attention of the audience.

Let me ask you this simple question? Which persons do you want to say thank you to? You can include your mom and dad, your father and mother-in-law, your own siblings, friends, aunts, uncles, and so on.

If you plan to make a bride and groom rehearsal dinner speech, you can take turns thanking your parents and other people who have been very supportive your whole life.

Action Tip: Grab your pen and your note pad and put on your creative thinking cap and write down the names of people you would like to express gratitude to.

Here are a couple of examples:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents for their support and for being there for me since day 1.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife for agreeing to marry me and for making me the happiest man in the world.

Unfortunately, it’s not been possible to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they’re here with us in spirit and they’re not only in our thoughts today, but more importantly, they’re with us in our hearts.

After thanking those who have supported you, then you can start with a bang.

You see, a great opening remark will not only hook the guests in but also break the ice and put you on the path to success.

Sadly, however, most groom’s don't start too well and I am sure they have grown accustomed to hearing the cliché: ‘’ We first met…’’ over and over again.

There’s nothing wrong with that. But I always advocate that grooms inject some fun or creativity into this crucial part of their rehearsal dinner toast.

If you are wondering how to go about it, then I am beyond excited to share a couple of tips with you.

First, if you don’t want to mess with this, you can simply start with that well-worn phrase: ‘’ Anita and I first met when we were in our junior year in college’’

Second, you can start with a compare and contrast case scenario. What do you I mean? Great you have asked this question!

It is where you basically mention what you love to do and what your life was like before you met your bride.

For example:

Once upon a time, there was this young man who loved being alone. When he was driving, he was alone. When his favorite soccer team was playing, he drove them alone. I think  being alone was something innate because I was the only child and I really had no one to talk to and confide in when parents were out of the house.

This continued well into college when I heard someone say that men who don’t talk are like oranges. I kept thinking about it for a long time and wanted to find out who came up with that cute quote as  I thought it was in one of the books.

When my buddy told me that Alice was the author, I was a bit skeptical because I never thought her mind could process something sweet like that.

On my birthday, she and her friends joined us and I so much enjoyed her warm presence that I felt she might be a wonderful friend since I was always looking to make friends with a lady who was a chatterbox as I badly wanted to get rid of this undesirable aspect of me for good.

I can go and on. But did you see how I can compare his life before college to when the groom met his future wife?

Again, you can start with quotes above love as I indicated in the earlier example: Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love binds two lives and hearts together and makes them feel a sense of completeness.

If you wish to do that, you may use one of the following quotes or witty lines about love.

"Love unlocks doors and opens windows that weren't even there before."- Helen Rowland

''Falling in love consists merely in uncorking the imagination and bottling the common sense."- Mandy Hale

"Don't ignore the love you do have in your life by focusing on the love you don't."- Charles du Bos

"Love does not care to define and is never in a hurry to do so."- Criss Jami

"Love may be harder to find in some people, but when they do love you know it must be something marvelous."- Timothy Oliveira

I guess you will have no trouble at all using those quotes to come up with something short and sweet.

Now, let us see...

How To Write The Content or Structure Of Your Groom’s Rehearsal Dinner Toast

Once again, let us cull parts of our template we are reviewing to help us get an idea of what to say.

‘’ We clicked right off the bat and I vividly recall how I looked into her eyes that evening and said I’ll look after her.

If I was wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, she would be wearing the same thing---just different shoes….  ‘’

As you can see, the body or the content of your message is a natural progression of the story in the opening remarks.

This part is fairly easy to write because it basically recounts the time you and the bride have spent together.

Nonetheless, so many grooms just narrate their stories without making them heartfelt or funny.

The reason is that their stories don’t revolve around any specific theme or style. That in essence separates great speeches from ordinary ones.

So, my advice to you is to first pick a style and then a theme for your speech before you write it. You can choose from any of these styles: poetic, rhythmic, funny, sentimental, or storytelling.

Pick something that best reflects who you are. For example, if you are a funny person, then you can lean towards that. If you are not known for that, you can choose a combination of two or more styles which is what most people go for.

Having picked your preferred style, you then go want to pick a theme that can be derived from your stories about when you met until you got on one knee.

So, please pick a pen and notepad and provide answers to the following questions:

  • Where did you first meet the bride?
  • How did both of you meet?
  • What was the first encounter or outing like?
  • How did your relationship evolve as the years went by?
  • When did you become so sure she was the one you are going to spend the rest of your life with?
  • Why do you really love and adore the bride?
  • What do both of you have in common?
  • What you envision your future to be like?
  • What are your words of commitment or promise to her?

If you are not going to make a speech at the wedding reception, then you can use all of the ideas above to write your groom's speech

If you are making a groom speech at both venues: the night of your rehearsal dinner and at the reception, you can split up the ideas above so your toast becomes unique on each occasion.

After you have provided answers to the above questions, write a rough draft. You don’t have to worry about how it initially looks because you can always go back to review it.

I know that a disturbing question most grooms ponder is this: how long should my rehearsal dinner speech be?

How to write your groom rehearsal dinner toast

It all depends on you since there is no right and wrong answer to that question. Most people are of the view that it should be short and sweet. Oh my goodness, I wish all groom speeches could be as sweet as honey and short like our stay on earth since there may be other speakers wanting to say a word or two.

But as you are pretty aware, not everyone can do that. So, I always recommend doing something you are comfortable with.  If you are bent on giving a long speech, please go for it.

But make sure it’s worth your listener’s time and attention. I have personally heard and written much longer speeches which were a hit even though the speakers initially objected to it because it went beyond the allotted time.

To cut a long debate short, you can go for something long or short, but make sure it’s engaging enough, or else you will just drag on without saying anything meaningful.

Now, let us see

How To Write The Conclusion Or Ending Of Your Groom’s Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Let us go back and take some excerpts of our example to get our creative juices flowing.

‘’ Alice, It feels like only yesterday when I looked into your eyes and said I’ll look after you.

Little did I know we will come thus far.

Scripture tells us that true love is kind, patient, not self-seeking, and it always protects, always trusts, hopes, and perseveres.

As a matter of fact, you’re a pure, absolute embodiment of that true love!

There have been many moments when we’ve both been hit with challenges that seem like a mountain---tall and steep---with no end in sight and no relief coming our way.’’

The closing remarks are as important as your opening remarks because that’s what will stick in the minds of your friends and family for a long time to come.

Below are some practical and time-tested ideas you can use to end with a bang.

First, you can share why you really love the bride.

Second, you can share what you look forward to as you build your lives together.

Third, you can close with a prayer if you are a deeply religious person or a Christian.

Here are some bible verses or scripture you can use.

Proverbs 18: 22- He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.

James 1:17

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Ephesians 5:25-33

King James Version

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Fourth, you can honor the bride by giving her a special gift. I have yet to see a groom who has publicly done that on a wedding day or rehearsal dinner night.

Additionally, you can wax poetic. You can use the lyrics of a poem or make up one by yourself.

I found this beautiful poem by Steven Reiser.

To my bride, I give you my heart

Sharing love each day from the very start

To my bride, I give you my kiss

Filling each day with joy and bliss

To my bride, I give you my being

To love, to play, to love and to sing

To my bride, I give you my mind

Learning each day to be more kind

Wow…I wish I knew who this great poet was! My search didn’t yield any results.

Finally, you may use quotes from the movies to enrich your message.  You may tweak any of these quotes to suit your case.

Rachel Getting Married

"All that I ever wanted was to just hear music, and when I met you, I heard you. And, Rachel, you're the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Thank you for marrying me." - Sidney Williams

Punch-Drunk Love

"I have love in my life. It makes me stronger than anything you can imagine." - Barry Egan

The Lord of the Rings

"I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone." – Arwen Undómiel

Emma

"Maybe it is our imperfections which make us so perfect for one another." - Mr. Knightley

Annie Hall

"Love is too weak a word for what I feel. I lurve you, you know, I loave you, I luff you." - Alvy Singer

This last quote can actually help you write a funny groom rehearsal dinner speech.

Father Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Example: How This Example Can Easily Help You Write The Best Ever Father Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Toast

Well, that day is just around the corner and you have to turn that dream into reality. But do you really have what it takes to write a great father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech that will earn you the love, admiration, and respect of your family and friends and loved ones?

Father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech

Or you are simply twiddling your thumbs and aimlessly wondering that someway somehow you will have that brainwave that will help you give one of the best wedding speeches at the rehearsal night?

Well, in this piece, I am going to share with you some proven and time-tested tips and ideas that will help you write the best ever father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech?

6

Are you ready to rumble? Before I do, let me help you get a few things right.

Change This View About You And You Will Be Fine

Most fathers think that they somehow need to have good writing skills or excellent speaking skills to say something sweet about their precious sons and daughters-in-law.

Although having those innate qualities can help, they are by no means all you need to write a heartfelt rehearsal dinners since many other factors come into play when making something extraordinary.

To do this successfully, you first have to figure out where and how you can find the right ideas and samples to help you make your son proud. Additionally, if you are feeling nervous, then, you have to also put that in check.

Speaking about nervousness reminds me of the reason why most fathers fail to impress when they are asked to give a few remarks at the rehearsal night.

I remember writing a wedding toast for someone who liked it so much that she couldn’t wait to deliver it before the audience. But I was surprised to know that she let her guard down when she was called to speak at the wedding. This happens all the time.

You might have prepared the best father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech toast, but, if you lack the guts to deliver it well, your message won’t strike the right chord with the wedding attendees.  This usually happens due to an unhealthy fixation on past speaking failures.

I often hear people say that two wrongs don’t make one right. In speech-making, however, one wrong may lead to multiple wrongs.  You see, whenever you fail to make a favorable impression before a small crowd, it is highly likely that you will make another blunder at another event if you fail to take charge of your thoughts.

The Bible tells us that as a man thinks, so is he. What that means is that you will become a  visible expression of your thoughts.

So, if you probably failed up to live up to expectation when you were asked to give a few remarks at one of your children’s wedding, memories of that unfortunate incident that will keep replaying in your mind as though as you are watching a blockbuster movie as you prepare for your speech.

But, you don’t have to be consumed by those pictures of failure. Even if they recur, you can choose instead to focus on this new task and believe deep down in your heart that you are going to pull off something remarkable this time around and you will end up experiencing a surge of strength that will help you get mentally alert.

That in essence is what should precede the actual writing of your rehearsal dinner speech for your son and daughter-in-law.

After undergoing this mental exercise,  you can then start by looking for the right ideas and examples. Rehearsal dinner speech examples can easily help you make the desired progress. There are two kinds of samples here: video and well-written examples. They complement each other like a good husband and wife.

Both can get you in the mood for the right expression of your thoughts. So, what you have to do in a couple of minutes is to watch a few good videos and write down ideas that you can use for your speech.

By the way, below are two excellent examples I found that you can watch and learn from.

Father of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech  Video# 2

Well, if you love reading as much as I do, then, this is a short father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech example that can inspire you.

Below is a short funny father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech

Good evening everyone. For those of you who don’t me, I am Warren, Mike’s dad, and Nancy’s newly minted dad.

I have been on many exciting and beautiful adventures, but none is as rewarding as fulfilling as being Mike’s dad.

That takes me back to when Mike came into my life and made my joy complete.

By the way, it was a nerve-wracking first night for the clueless new dad, but it got better from there, and I looked forward to embarking on my life-changing journey of fatherhood.

Growing up, Mike was very responsible, well- organized, and wise beyond my age. He was my little helper for projects around the house. Mike would clean and organize the Tupperware and even look out for his younger brothers, Jerry and Dan.

As he grew older, he was fun to hang out with. I remember taking him to see a newer version of Tom and Jerry when he was about 7 years old. He was so enchanted by how Jerry sneaked under Tom’s bed after stealing some stuff from the refrigerator. So, the next day, he stole his brother’s soccer ball and his under our bed for close to three hours.

It wasn’t until later that his brother was about to have an afternoon nap that he kicked what felt like a pair of socks balled up under his bed.

So, he looked under it and saw Mike coiled up like a snake and fast asleep like a log. He was so startled that he knocked his head against the bed as he tried getting out of there when his brother held his hand and pulled it hard!

I also have memories of the family going on family vacations, and amusement rides at the Mall of America where he was an active participant.

The most memorable, however, were projects we both worked on was when he was in college.

I remember that in college, Mike became of the D.J group and I helped him built some sort of head-piece, made from an old computer monitor that he could wear while DJ’ing.

Speech for my son at rehearsal dinner

Sadly, however, the whole thing ended up weighing 20 pounds and didn’t work that well.

But nothing could deter us from coming up with our own innovations because I always had this dependable handyman by my side. Well, not too long ago, we built a live-edge Walnut TV that is now in Mike’s and Nancy’s apartment.

Mike, I consider myself the proudest dad ever because you’ve grown up into a loving, caring, calm, responsible, industrious, and disciplined young man more than I could ever imagine.

I am in awe of his strong work ethic, your sense of purpose, your can-do attitude, and your incredible love for our entire family.

You have some amazing qualities that will help you become a great husband and father. I wish you all the best and I really want to thank you for everything.

Nancy, you really picked a winner and you should be thankful for having him in your life. I can see from that warm, glowing smile that you’ve found the special treasure of your heart.

Nancy is a wonderful,  person and I know she will help make Mike an even stronger, more responsible, and kinder man.

She really impressed us when we first met you.

Over time, I could tell you were his perfect match as I noticed how friendly, loving, smart, and down to earth you are.

What I really admire about Ashley is her sense of calm composure.   I have watched with admiration and wonder as she effortlessly prepared for her wedding while going through medical school and that should tell you who she is.

We are also happy to be a part of your family too. Mike and Nancy, you both are a wonderful couple and the good thing is you have similar hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

As you know, all true love stories have up and down moments. Guess what? Those moments come to refine the love a couple has for each other. So, as you go through life, do expect some rough times.  But always choose to love each other when you struggle to like each other and you will experience the purest kind of love there is.

God bless you and wish you all the best.

Djdjdj

Did you enjoy reading that? Well, I really enjoyed the story about Mike coiling up like a snake under the bed.

By the way, I am going to show you how to write one by breaking that example down so you can get an idea of what went into writing that father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech example.

Before we do, let us take parts of it to guide us along the way.

Here is a snippet of the introduction:

''Good evening everyone. For those of you who don’t me, I am Warren, Mike’s dad, and Nancy’s newly minted dad.

I have been on many exciting and beautiful adventures, but none is as rewarding as fulfilling as being Mike’s dad''

Well, if you study that sample above, you will realize that there are three parts to it: introduction, body, and conclusion.

The extracted example is an example of a short and simple opening statement.

As you can see, the writer mentioned his name and his relationship with the bride and groom. That is the norm with most speeches. But it goes beyond that.

The introduction serves two purposes: mentioning your name and relationship with the bride and the groom. Then, you ultimately connect that to the second part of the introduction.

Here, the father of the groom didn’t mention those he wanted to express gratitude for helping his family raise the groom.  Let me ask you this: Which persons would you like to mention?

Action Tip: Write down the names of such individuals. You can mention your wife, the groom’s mother, your own parents or his grandparents, the mom and dad of the bride, his own brothers and sisters, and so on.

For example, if you mention his mom, you can attach it with a few words.

Below is an illustration:

First and foremost, my immense gratitude goes to Joanna for her love and support all these years. I was on the road most of the time and she played such a key role…

Did you see that? You have to do likewise. Well, if the groom’s mom or grandparents are not alive, you may still honor them if you want. But make sure what you say doesn’t spoil the joyous mood by dwelling too much on their demise.

What’s more, if you and his mom are no longer married, you should steer away from talking about that or even referring to her as your ex-wife.

How to write a rehearsal dinner speech by father to son

You simply have to say his mom if you are making a reference to her.  If you can skillfully use your speech to heal old wounds, then you will earn the admiration of those around you.

I remember talking about the second part of the introduction, right? So, let’s get right to it.  After you said your thank-yous, you have to start with a riveting opener that will engage the attention of the wedding guests from the get-go because you can never have a second chance to make a first impression.

It’s very sad that most fathers of the groom don’t make good use of the opportunity to start on a bright note.

I know most of them are clueless. But having been to so many weddings, you should be able to spot the very good ones without blinking an eye.

Whatever it is, I am happy to share with you some practical ideas you can use to draw your guests in and give them something to smile about.

First, you can start with a good joke or a humorous story about when your son was born. There was a time a man shared with me a story about how he got so panicked that he packed his car in the wrong place and he had to be called to make way for another car to move out.

If you don’t remember anything like that, you can still use a joke or a quote like those below to create a funny father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech.

''Fatherhood is great because you can ruin someone from scratch.'' – Jon Stewart

''If you ever want to torture my dad, tie him up and right in front of him, refold a map incorrectly. ''– Cathy Ladman

Ok, suppose I want to use the first quote to start my speech, this is how I would do it.

I read a quote that says: '' Fatherhood is great because you can ruin someone from scratch’’ I saw this a week after we had Mike and promised myself that I was going to make a man out of him and toughen him up. So, when he was only a little boy, we went on an early morning jog…''

Did you see how I did that? Don’t you think this will engage them from the start of your presentation?  Naturally, if your son is a strong person with an awesome personality, then, they will be very eager to know how you made that happen.

Again, if you want to make your speech heartfelt or touching, you can either share how you felt when your son was born.

Do you remember all that happened on the day he was born? If you have forgotten about that experience, you can ask her mother or if you like taking notes, please consult your old journals.

What’s more, you can start with a beautiful quote to spiff up your father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech

Here are some heartwarming quotes you can use to enrich it.

  • ''The heart of a father is the masterpiece of nature''-Unknown
  • ''There is this special connection between a father and his son. It may be barely visible, but it’s there. It’s always like that with sons and fathers''-Unknown
  • ''The bond between a father and a son is a true friendship no one can ever break.''-Unknown
  • ''By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.''-Charles Wadsworth
  • ''You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.''- Walter M. Schirra, Sr.

I especially love this quote: ''There is this special connection between a father and his son. It may be barely visible, but it’s there. It’s always like that with sons and fathers.''- Unknown

Now, just watch how I do it with the underlined words.

I have had the distinct privilege of sharing my whole life with Mike and I must say that there will never be anything quite as special as the love between him and me.

Ok, let us move on to the next chapter of the writing process.

How To Write An Outline Or Structure of Your Father of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Again, we have to see excerpts of it to inspire us to put down our thoughts on paper.

''Growing up, Mike was a very responsible, well- organized and wise beyond my age. He was my little helper for projects around the house. Mike would clean and organize the Tupperware, and even look out for his younger brothers, Jerry and Dan.

As he grew older, he was fun to hang out with. I remember taking him to see a newer version of Tom and Jerry when he was about 7 years old. He was so enchanted by how Jerry sneaked under Tom’s bed after stealing some goodies. So, the next day, he stole his brother’s soccer ball and his under our bed for close to three hours. ''

Speech toast for my and daughter-in-law at rehearsal dinner

If there’s any part of your speech that will make the audience laugh or cry a little, then it’s this part of your speech. It’s the easiest part to write since it’s basically composed of stories.

But before I show you how to make this aspect of your story about your son’s life unique and memorable, there are a couple of things I would like to bring to your attention.

Before you scribble down your thoughts, you should pick a style and theme that’s unique to you.

Depending on who you are, you can decide to make your speech poetic, sentimental, funny, storytelling, or a combination of all these styles which is what most fathers prefer.

I recently wrote a father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech where the groom’s dad made the phrase ''Make It A Gold'' as the theme of your speech.  It ended up being one of the best speeches of the night and I enjoy reading it to this day.

If you want to come up with one, you have to consider one outstanding thing about your child that you wish to include in your wedding toast.

If that doesn’t make sense to you, you can make it flow from his childhood through adulthood.

These pointers can help you draft the content of your speech.

  • Write down answers to the following questions
  • What was he like when he was a small kid?
  • What was he like when he was growing up?
  • Was he your normal teenager or there was something peculiar about him?
  • Does he have any accomplishments you wish to share?

Having written answers to the following questions and more, just put together a simple draft that you can go back to edit later on. Or you can simply let a fresh pair of eyes review it since that person can easily spot mistakes your eyes might have overlooked when you first wrote it.

Now, let us see

How To Write A Memorable Ending

Again, here are some snippets to help us get started

''Guess what? Those moments come to refine the love a couple has for each other. So, as you go through life, do expect some rough times.  But always choose to love each other when you struggle to like each other and you will experience the purest kind of love there is. God bless you and wish you all the best.''

The conclusion should be as moving as the introduction because this is the part most folks will remember the most.

First, you may go with the example I have shared or tweak it a bit.

Second, you can share a piece of advice based on the years of being married. We can use this sweet and witty quote by Mark Twain

''Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century. ''

We can use that to write this:

Mark Twain once said that no man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century.  I am blessed to have experienced that and can only wish the same and more for both of you.

A perfect way of wrapping up is to sing it if you have a good singing voice. Here's how a dad sang his.

Well, you may accompany it with a musical instrument you can really play. If you are a religious person or a born again Christian, you can either end with a prayer for the couple or even use some of these scriptures to wrap up.

Psalm 128

A song of ascents.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
    within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
    around your table.
Yes, this will be the blessing
for the man who fears the Lord.

May the Lord bless you from Zion;
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
May you live to see your children’s children—
    peace be on Israel.

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” ~Ecclesiastes 4:12~

You can also simply wish them well.  Saying this shouldn’t be hard right? Since good words are the foundation of a good marriage, you should put a great deal of thought into this.

Again, if you have nothing to say at all, then, you may end with a toast. You may borrow these words from the movie when Harry Met Sally:

''When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.''— Harry Burns, When Harry Met Sally

Speech from father to son at rehearsal dinner

Brother or Sister Of The Groom Speech: How To Easily Write A Heartfelt Wedding Speech For Your Brother

Want to write the best ever brother or sister of the groom's wedding speech for your brother? But can’t seem to get started?

Don’t worry because I am going to share with you proven tips, ideas, and examples to help you write a great brother or sister of the groom wedding speech.

M3

First, a few things you have to know before we start.

I am sure you could hardly believe it when your younger or elder brother went down on one knee and came back up, with a freshly anointed fiancée.

If your first thought wasn’t joking, “I pity that poor, poor soul for saying yes”, you’ve had quite an unconventional (and civil) relationship with your sibling.

If you fall into the other category, we completely get you (speaking from personal experience).

And now, after years of fights, verbal showdowns, kicking, scratching, biting, practical pranks, tattling, shouts of “MOOOOOOM!”, general destruction to the house, rivalry, muddy sports sessions, broken bones, etc, the big day is finally here.

Your chief tormentor (aka your brother) is finally tying the knot! What a blessing it is to know that he has found the woman of her dreams.

If you are the older or younger sister of the groom, the sandwiched sibling, or the eldest sister or brother of the groom in the family, all three types automatically come with an advantage.

You have known your brother the longest, even more than his friends and you know every single detail about him.

So, if you have been entrusted with the responsibility of making a short brother or sister of the groom speech at his wedding, make the most of this, because I can tell you that the payback is going to be sweet if you write a great brother or sister of the groom speech!

Granted, writing one is not an easy walk in the park. Most siblings don’t attach much importance to it and come out feeling humiliated that they didn’t do their brothers proud. Others simply wing it because they feel they can come up with a quick story about their brother in no time at all.

Brother and sister of the groom wedding toast

Whatever the case is, you don’t have to leave this honorable task to chance. Before you even jot down your ideas, there are a few processes you have to go through to get the right ideas.

If you do, your speech will be a hit even if you suck at public speaking or are not good with words.

The first process involves letting go of your past mistakes. You will naturally feel nervous when you envision what to say at your brother’s wedding and you will feel more intimidated if you imagine how the wedding guests, your family, and friends will receive your toast.

Well, if you are a shy or timid person or you goofed terribly when you were asked to give a speech at a wedding or birthday party, your mind will bring up dark memories of when you failed to impress your listeners.

If you dwell on that mental image for too long, fear will take a chokehold on you and you will have this crippling anxiety that you are going to fail this time around.

But you can make a difference this time around by believing in yourself no matter how you are feeling because a strong performance can become very evident if you shove aside your past errors and focus on the speech right ahead of you.

As you keep meditating on the expected results of your actions, you will be empowered from within to give your brother or sister of the groom speech at his wedding or rehearsal dinner.

The next step involves getting an idea of how wedding speeches are made. Guess what? Video speech examples can help you figure out what to say at your brother’s wedding and how best to say it.

Nonetheless, most siblings don’t seek out help there. The few who don’t actually know how to get the right ideas on that platform because they use them for entertainment purposes other than its educational value.

So, this is what I want to do now. Grab a pen and journal and write down ideas you think can help you to write your brother or sister of the groom wedding speech as you watch both videos.

Please note: Since this piece is geared for both the brother and sister of the groom, I am going to show you two video clips I got.

Don’t try skipping any of them because you never know which one might be helpful in the long run. Here you go: Please enjoy and learn a thing or two from each clip.

Brother of the groom speech video example

Sister of the groom speech video example

If you feel like burying your head in a book, then I recommend that you study this short example carefully and see if there’s anything you can pick up from it.

Please note: A brother of the groom's speech sample comes after this one. But you are advised to read both since they are both tailored towards a male sibling and you can find useful ideas from both samples. So, you are reminded to read both.

Sister of The Groom Speech Toast Example

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Shelly and I am Dan’s only sister.

It gives me great joy to see the smiling faces of so many friends and family who have come from far and near to share in our joy and happiness.

I would like to use this moment to thank you all for coming.  I must say standing here to tell everyone who Dan is to me is such a tremendous honor and privilege.

He gave a sweet toast at my wedding 10 years ago and I have thought of giving a speech at his wedding too for a very long time.

So, when he asked me to give a speech, it was a dream come true and I saw it more as the perfect moment to tell everyone here with us tonight who much I cherish and adore my brother.

Let me begin by saying that one of life’s most beautiful blessings is when you have an angel who holds you tight in good and bad times.

An angel you can look up to for unconditional love and support when you feel down and out.

Prior to this beautiful day, I began to recall all the great moments of our everlasting bond of friendship and how much Dan has impacted my life greatly and I am proud to say that he is been my guardian angel all these years.

My parents used to tell me how happy he was when they brought me for the very first and he was so happy to have a new sister that he, unfortunately, hit his leg against the baby crib when he first saw me.

What to say to my brother on his wedding day

It didn’t end there. I was told that he got out of bed very early one morning to pick me up and almost let me fall down the stairs.

Growing up, I realized all those stories were true as I found out how much he loved and cared for me.

There are also happy memories of Dan helping me with work around the house, helping me with my homework, and teaching me how to drive in his old car that looked like a tired horse.

But I loved it so much when he surprised me with gifts and on special days, making me feel special and truly loved.

When I got to his teens, he kept an eye on me like a private detective and he was sometimes a real pain in the ass! Now that I have grown older, I know that he did that out of love.

Once, he saw me talking to a boy and smelling something fish, he chased him down the hallway and banged his head against a wall.

He picked him up off the floor and furiously warned him not to set foot there again.

Looking back, I must say he’s been my whole life’s brightest star who guided me every step of the way, loved me deeply, and protected me like a guardian angel.

Dan, through the good times and bad, you have stood by us and I remember how our hearts sank so low when our dad passed on and that made me feel like my tears were not going to dry anytime soon.

But, you stepped up to the plate and became my cheerleader and you really inspired me to work hard to achieve my goals and dreams.

Because of your abiding love, counsel, support, and kindness, I live more deeply and richly in those trying moments.

Your kindness and love are so inspiring and it comes as no surprise that you are so much admired and respected by everyone you come into contact with me.

Today, I feel so happy for you as you have crossed the oceans of time to find the one you truly love and cherish.

And I know for sure you’re your life will become more beautiful because sharing your life with someone you truly love with your whole heart gives real meaning to life.

God bless you.

By the way, here’s a humorous example that was written by an older brother that can also inspire you to come up with your own speech. Thanks to this website www. hitched.co.uk for letting us re-post it here.

We are going to break this one down after reading through it so you can get a perfect idea of what went into it.

Again, the lessons gleaned here can help you say whatever you have in mind even if you are not the brother of the groom.

Brother of The Groom Speech Toast Example

Good evening ladies and gentlemen.

My name is Andrew and I’m Jake’s older brother and best man. I’d first like to start off by saying thank you to Ed and Jolene Hardy for helping make this wedding possible.

I’d also like to thank all of you for coming tonight. Especially those of you that knew I’d be saying a few words. It’s touching that you still decided to come.

Jake and I have been brothers now for a little over 22 years. In the course of 22 years, you really get to know someone well. I’ve seen Jake go from an annoying little kid to the slightly less annoying guy you see today.

One of my earliest memories of Jake was him telling jokes that made absolutely no sense. Those of you who knew him as a kid may understand what I’m saying.

Those of you who don’t, let me give you a taste of one of his best jokes. “Why did the chicken cross the road? Because Indians don’t like ice cream.” FYI, Jake’s jokes today aren’t much funnier.

I was even there when Jake discovered his first armpit hair on our trip to Michigan. David and Steve, I know you guys are out there somewhere. Remember this eventful memory? And so as not to forget it, Jake even circled it with a permanent marker and I found out on my trip to Steve’s house this year, we still have the pictures to prove it.

I don’t think that being born into the same family makes people brothers; it may make them siblings, but brotherhood is something that you have to work at.

One of the greatest joys in my life has been watching my brothers grow up and after years of fighting, finally becoming friends. As I was thinking about what I wanted to say tonight, I started thinking about brothers.

What is a brother? Brothers have a keen understanding as to who each other is. Gained by years of experience, seeing each other at our highs and at our lows. Brothers share inside jokes.

Brothers remember staying up late with dad and then rushing to bed when mom comes home. Brothers understand that what mom doesn’t know won’t hurt her and that nobody likes a tattletale.

Brothers understand that farting at the dinner table will earn you dish duty but then if you make it silent you can blame it on someone else. Though if you blame it on mom, that will definitely earn you dish duty. Brothers share childhood memories and grown-up dreams.

As we are here tonight, commemorating Jake moving on to the next stage of his life, I want to let you know that I am proud of you and the guy you’ve become. You are one of the best guys that I know and one of the clearest ways that you’ve shown your character is in the woman you’ve chosen for your wife.

Annie, you look absolutely beautiful tonight. I can think of no one else that I’d rather have to join our family or who would be a better wife to Jake than you. You are generous, selfless, loving, and kind.

So to my brother, my friend, and his new wife, my new sister, let’s raise our glasses to love, laughter, and happily ever after. Now for my final words - I’m starving, let’s eat.

M4 (1)

So, the above was a great example of sass combined with sentimentality (which is pretty much the definition of any siblingship).

If you had a good time reading that and it brought a smile to your face, the good news is that we can help you write a speech that has the same effect on your brother’s face!

He may even give you a gruff hug and wipe away a threatening tear at the end of it, who knows?

Before we start seeing what went into this speech, please get out a notebook, a pen, and a basketful of memories, and let’s start at the top.

Part 1: How To Write A Great Introduction For Your Brother or Sister Of The Groom Wedding Speech

A memorable beginning is a perfect way to break the ice. It’s also a great way to get some laughs all around, and an even better way to quell your nerves (if public speaking isn’t your forte).

Before you start, make sure you introduce yourself and thank the necessary folks for putting together the event.

Even though you are the sibling of the groom, it is possible that some people from your sister-in-law’s side may not know who you are.

Once you’re done thanking everyone for the evening (your parents, your sister-in-law parents, siblings, important relatives), you can start with a joke to lighten the mood.

For example, For those of you who don’t know, I am Shelly.  Dan was actually my first and last boyfriend. I actually met him 26 years ago when he was…umm…born

Do you see how we threw in the element of suspense ? Don’t you think the wedding guests will laugh when the speaker says: ‘’ he was…umm…born ‘’.

They sure will. Can you find a way to make your opening remarks a little bit different? Don’t worry if you aren’t comfortable with speaking to big crowds or making jokes. All you need to do is speak the truth, and say it from the heart. You can always skip the jokes if it doesn’t work for you.

Wedding speech from sister to brother at his wedding

Now, let us see…

Part 2: How To Write The Content Or Structure Of Your Wedding Speech For Your Brother

This is one of the most important parts of the speech.

This is where you elucidate, in great detail, about everything that your brother has done, either by himself or to you.

Here you talk about him as a kid, evidence his mischievous ways, speak about how he has driven you up the wall, his embarrassing moments, the more the merrier!

However, do keep the nature of the event in mind as you write down points for this part.

You don’t have to narrate any incident that could ruin the flow of the special day. Steer clear of exes, controversial topics, or anything debaucherous. All those mentions should definitely NOT be a part of your speech.

Here are some pointers to help you come up with the right ideas for your storyline.

  • What was it like growing up with your brother?
  • What was your brother like when he was a little boy?
  • Can you narrate a few, cute embarrassing moments or incidents?
  • What are your favorite childhood memories with him?
  • What are your brother’s positive attributes?
  • What do you like the most about him?
  • What was your brother like as a middle schooler or teenager?
  • How is your brother now as an adult?

Since you grew up alongside him, you have access to some of the best instances that have taken place. Write them all down, and then through a process of thorough elimination, choose which ones you would like to narrate on the big day as you can from the extracted example below!

“Jake and I have been brothers now for a little over 22 years. In the course of 22 years, you really get to know someone well. I’ve seen Jake go from an annoying little kid to the slightly less annoying guy you see today.

One of my earliest memories of Jake was him telling jokes that made absolutely no sense …Why did the chicken cross the road? Because Indians don’t like ice cream.” FYI, Jake’s jokes today aren’t much funnier.

I was even there when Jake discovered his first armpit hair on our trip to Michigan. David and Steve, I know you guys are out there somewhere…”

Part 3: Talk About The Benefits Of Having A Brother

This is the stuff that you have always kept close to yourself, and thoughts that you would never, ever admit to your brother.

However, since it’s his wedding day, it’s a day you can afford to be nice to him.

Talk about how your brother has changed you, how he is helped you, the difference he is made to your life, how he is a positive influence in your life, what you admire about him, and any other aspect that you would like to tell him.

Part 4: What To Say About Your New Sister-In-Law

No sibling speech is complete without a mention of their sister-in-law.

Your brother isn’t just getting married, you are also gaining a new sister-in-law, someone that your brother can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with.

Naturally, your speech will also have to include a mention for them. Siblings can approach this in two ways - if you have known your brother’s fiancée for a long time and are very comfortable with them, you can address them exactly like how you would address your sibling.

If you haven’t known them for too long, you won’t go wrong with a sweet yet formal paragraph that welcomes them into your family.

But either way, give them a shout out because they are going to be a permanent fixture in your life from now on!

You may take cues from this extracted sample.

“Annie, you look absolutely beautiful tonight. I can think of no one else that I’d rather have to join our family or who would be a better wife to Jake than you. You are generous, selfless, loving, and kind.”

M5

Part 5: Here Is How To End Your Speech With A Bang

The ending is as important, if not more, than the introduction. These are the words that your brother, your new sister- in-you’re your sister-in-law’s parents, your family members, and so on, are going to remember for a long time to come.

So if you don’t want to do a typical toast, you can always experiment and change it up as per your preferences.

If you hail from a musical family, rope in your mom, dad, another sibling if you have one, and break into a song. Nothing like a musical number to get the smiles growing wider and the feet tapping!

If music isn’t your thing, you can share some marriage advice if you are married.  Well, you can still say something if you are not married. How so? By using love quotes from movies and many other places.

Below are some touching quotes you may use.

  1. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.” ~ Moulin Rouge
  2. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” ~ When Harry Met Sally
  1. “To me, you are perfect” ~ Love Actually
  1. “I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love.” ~ The Vow
  1. “They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that’s true.” ~ Big Fish

Try to stay away from typical, run-off-the-mill sexist jokes, recite a poem, or even read a passage from your favorite book.

If you or your brother is a deeply religious person or a Christian, then, you can write a faith-based conclusion with your preferred bible verse or with one of these scriptures.

Proverbs 18:22 (NIV) 22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Ephesians 5:22-26 (NIV) 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word

Ephesians 5:25-34 (NIV) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church- 30 for we are members of his body. 31 "For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

However, if you are truly a thrillseeker, you can also end with a joke (just like how you started with one). If you can pull that off, rest assured that your speech will be the highlight of that evening.

“So to my brother, my friend and his new wife, my new sister, let’s raise our glasses to love, laughter, and happily ever after. Now for my final words - I’m starving, let’s eat.”

Mother Of The Groom Speech Rehearsal Dinner Speech: Just Read This Example To Help You Write A Heartfelt Mother Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Do you want to write a heartfelt mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech for your son and daughter-in-law?

M3

Are you wondering how to do that? You don’t have to worry because I am going to share with you time-tested tips and ideas you should know so you can write the best mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech for your son.

Most mothers get stuck when thinking of what to say at the rehearsal dinner. For these moms, you have to be endowed with the gift of words in order to capture the attention of the audience.

Contrary to what most folks think, that is not always true because I have had the good fortune of working with countless mothers, some of whom are writers, and I can assure you that coming up with a great mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech , is not entirely dependent on your skillset even though it helps to a certain extent.

Mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech for son

All you need to put on a good show is a believing heart that you can make it in spite of all the odds.

Many schools of thought advocate writing your pre-wedding speech for your child by looking for the right ideas. But I have a different viewpoint based on my years of experience writing speeches.

Writing a good mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech is a lot like a traveler about to embark on a journey. You need to prepare before you set off. The mistake I see most mothers make is to write before they prepare.

By this, I am actually talking about preparing yourself mentally before you even sit down to write something about your son and daughter-in-law.

Preparing yourself mentally is the best way to take complete control of the situation, particularly if you are nervous. Nervousness is not a terrible thing per se. So, if the thought of standing before your family and friends send a cold shiver down your spine, you need not worry at all.

Rather, that experience should energize you for success. Having those feelings is a sure sign that you either find this endeavor intimidating or you have goofed some time ago when you were asked to speak before a group of people.

Whatever the case is, just put the past behind you and make it a daily habit by envisioning yourself speaking confidently before the wedding guests. As you keep at this, your fears will calm down and you will be empowered from within to speak with confidence and clarity even if you are as shy as a squirrel.

Another aspect of this involves putting yourself in the mood for the expression of your thoughts and ideas. This is the most important thing you have to consider before you write your speech since it will make things a whole lot easier for you.

To get the right ideas and content to create an outline for your mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech, you should spend some time and try to figure out what goes into making successful speeches.  Mother of the groom rehearsal speech video is one of the best media for getting ideas that will inspire you to come up with good content.

So, this is what I want you to do now.  Please watch these two videos and make note of ideas you think can enrich your own speech.

Here you go: enjoy and learn from both video clips

Both clips were very enjoyable to watch and I am sure you learned a thing or two from them. By the way, here is a short mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech example for your inspiration and guidance.

Please study it intently as we will look at what went into writing this sample.

Here you go:

Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Sample

Good evening  I’m Angela, Alex’s mom. Thanks so much for coming. Alex is my second child and it seems like only yesterday that he came into my life and made me feel so proud to be his mom.

Alex was a very witty, brave, and funny little boy.

Growing up, Alex was very adventurous. When he was a little boy, he loved eating bananas. Once, he got hungry during the middle of the night and decided to find something to eat.

I got up only to find that he was nowhere in sight. So, we looked frantically for him and my heart missed lots of beats.

Shortly after calling the police, we found him sleeping on top of our refrigerator like a log. The brave little boy had apparently climbed on top of the refrigerator to get a banana and realized he couldn’t get down by himself. So, he decided to make it his bed.

Needless to say, I was so relieved when we found him.  As I reached to get him down, he hugged me tight and said: ‘’I love you, mommy. But have you forgotten that banana is my life? They make me so happy’’

When Alex got to his teens, he was very outgoing and friendly.  But what I really admired about him was his sense of perseverance, joyful dedication, and unwavering focus.

Mother speech for son at rehearsal dinner

I remember in his junior and senior years in high school, he worked at McDonald's. He was so friendly, outgoing, and extremely hardworking that his boss and co-workers liked him very much.

Subsequently, he became a manager just 6 months after being hired. That inspiring success didn’t get to his head as our son still believed he could still dream and reach for the sky!

He worked hard and eventually got enlisted in the navy where he is currently serving for the last 7 years.

Alex, we are so proud of you. As your mom, all I can say that you’re a blessing to me and our entire family. We couldn’t be more proud that you are going to share your whole life with someone he can’t live without.

Milda, my son is so blessed to have found you. We admire the way you look out for him and make him so happy. You are very supportive and caring and I am very confident that you will be a fantastic wife and mom. I am honored to be your mother-in-law and I look forward to spending many great moments with you and your family in the years ahead.

Alex and Milda, congratulations and I am sure we’ve all really enjoyed sharing this special evening with you. You’re a beautiful couple and you have what it takes to make your marriage work as you want it.

So, always love each other fully, every day and you will look back on this day with a very grateful heart. God bless you and we wish you the very best in the years to come.

How to Write Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Most mothers think it’s difficult to draft something like this. But it’s not. If you look at the example once more, you will notice that it has three parts to it. Do you know what they are?

Ok, I would help you out. If you study it more closely, you will realize that this piece consists of the following elements: body, introduction, and conclusion or the toast.

Now, let us take it one step at a time. We will focus first on the introduction. Let us take a cursory look at excerpts of the introductory remarks so we can figure out how it is done.

‘’ Good evening  I’m Angela, Alex’s mom. Thanks so much for coming. Alex is my second child and it seems like only yesterday that he came into my life and made me feel so proud to be his mom. ‘’

As you can see from this extract, the introductory remarks comprise of these:

  • Name and your relationship to the groom and bride…Angela didn’t mention that.

Well, the mother of the groom could have gone further by thanking some individuals who have been a blessing in Alex’s life.

Do you remember persons who helped you raise your son? If so, please write down their names and why you want to thank them.

For example:

A special thanks go to my father Mike who was and still is our handyman, our advisor, and my pillar of strength and our source of laughter.

Did you see that?  If someone is deceased or bedridden, you can still mention that. But if you don’t want to say that, you can skip it.

I always find however that most mothers mention it, particularly if they want to honor the memory of someone who was a huge blessing in his son’s life. Moreover, if you are a single or a widowed mom, you need not mention that explicitly.

After expressing appreciation to deserving individuals, you have to start with a bang and that is where most mothers really struggle to come up with the right ideas or content.

The opening remarks are so important but most mothers give little attention to it because the overwhelming majority of them just don’t know to grab the attention of the wedding guests right from the very start.

I am happy to share with you some time-tested ideas to help you write a captivating opener.

First, you may make your opening lines heartfelt by sharing stories of how you felt when your son was born at the hospital.

Here is a short example:

Seeing my son looking so happy takes me back many years to a moment when my heart almost burst with joy, the first time I held my precious baby boy in my arms.

Second, you can start on a hilarious note by making fun of the bride and the groom.

Third, if they have been through a whole lot of tragedies or other setbacks to reach this beautiful milestone, you can talk about it.

Fourth, you can use any of the following quotes or one-liners to start your rehearsal dinner speech for your son and daughter-in-law.

''There has never been, nor will there ever be, anything quite so special as the love between the mother and a son.” – Anonymous

''A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.” – Irish Proverb

“Mothers are inscrutable beings to their sons, always.” – A.E. Coppard

''Sons are the anchors of a mother’s life.” – Sophocles

''All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ― Abraham Lincoln

How to write a mother of the groom rehearsal dinner sspeech

Using quote # 1…we can start with this touching introduction.

I have had the privilege and honor of sharing my whole life with Chris and I must say that there will never be anything quite as special as the love I have for my only child and son.

Did you notice how I used that quote to come up with that? That is how it is done.

Now, let us see...

How to Write The Content Or Body Of Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech

We are going to re-look at excerpts of our example to guide us along the way.

‘’ Growing up, Alex was very adventurous. When he was a little boy, he loved eating bananas. Once, he got hungry during the middle of the night and decided to find something to eat.

I got up only to find that he was nowhere in sight. So, we looked frantically for him and my heart missed lots of beats. ‘’

After reviewing samples like this one, most mothers go on to put their thoughts together. Even though that is not wrong per se, it takes the shine out of what would have otherwise been a great presentation.

Writing a successful mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech involves these processes:

  1. Discovering how such speeches are made which we have already covered above.
  1. Picking a theme for your speech. Depending on who you are, you can decide to compose your message in a witty, dramatic, poetic, hilarious, sentimental, or a combination of two or more styles. From what I know, most mothers of the grooms prefer doing heartfelt and funny speeches.

A word of caution here: Make sure you do something you are comfortable with. Just because someone made a funny speech at a rehearsal dinner you were once at doesn’t mean you should opt for that even if you haven’t even made a little child giggle with excitement. Pick something that reflects who you are and stick to it.

That way, the wedding guests will see how authentic your toast is.

  1. Then, you plan out a structure or outline of your speech by figuring out how you want to it flow or go.

For example, you can decide to start from when your son was born until he met the soon-to-be bride or got married.

You can also focus on your son’s wonderful character traits and back it up with stories and then say why he will be a loving husband and father.

You can also pick a favorite anecdote about your son’s life and use it to write your speech.

These are but a few questions that can help you get the right anecdotes. So, please grab your journal and write down answers to the following questions.

  • When was your son born?
  • How did you feel when he was born?
  • What were your dreams for him as he grew older?
  • What were the earlier years like?
  • What was he like when he was a toddler or only a little boy?
  • What was he like when he was growing up?

Jot down as many stories you can remember about the above questions or anything you wish to add to your speech. Then, put together a rough draft based on your responses.

Never mind if what you come up with is as rough as a nutmeg grater. You can smooth the rough edges later by rewriting it over and over.

After you have said something about your son, you then turn the spotlight on your daughter-in-law.

Here, you can recount things like:

  • How you felt when your son told you about her
  • How you felt when you first met her
  • What you learned about her when you got to know her well
  • Write about her amazing character traits
  • Share why you think she will be an amazing wife and mother
  • Say why you are so happy that she’s joining your family

Well, if you don’t approve of your son’s choice of spouse, keep it to yourself because the wedding rehearsal dinner is not the venue to share that grievance.

Well, if you don’t know her too, well, don’t say that. Instead, you can simply say that she’s a beautiful person and you are sure that she would bring her wonderful qualities to bear as she starts building a life with your precious son.

That said, let us see

How to Write The Ending Of Your Mother of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech

Look at how the writer concluded carefully and tell me what your views are.

‘’ congratulations and I am sure we’ve all really enjoyed sharing this special evening with you…So, always love each other fully, every day and you will look back on this day with a very grateful heart. God bless you and we wish you the very best in the years to come.

Any feedback? That was a simple ending to a simple speech. Just as the introduction should capture the attention of the audience, your conclusion too should end with a bang because it’s what the guests might take home with them.

If you do a great job at it, it will remain in the minds of the wedding guests for a long time to come.

I am sure you would like to wrap up on a gracious note, so, I am going to share with you proven tips that can help you finish strong.

  • First, you can simply thank the guests for their time and attention.

  • If you have been married for long, you can offer a sweet word of advice based on your own personal marriage experiences. Quotes like those you will find below can make your account much sweeter

''Husband and wife relationships are like the relationship between Tom and Jerry. Though they are teasing and fighting, but can’t live without each other.” – Unknown

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

“A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” – Dave Meurer

“Never marry the one you can live with, marry the one you cannot live without.” – Unknown

“A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love.” – Pearl S. Buck

  • If you are a deeply religious person or a Christian, you can craft a short faith-based message with some popular bible verses as seen below

Song of Solomon 8:6-7: "Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised."

Ecclesiastes 4:9: "Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?"

Proverbs 3:3-4: "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man."

  • You can also wax poetic by ending with a love or marriage poem. You may use this poem by the great George Elliot.

To Be One with Each Other, by George Eliot

What greater thing is there for two human souls,
than to feel that they are joined for life -
to strengthen each other in all labour,
to rest on each other in all sorrow,
to minister to each other in all pain,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories.

Taking inspiration from this verse, I quickly wrote this short example:

Love is the best gift to any couple and there’s no greater joy than finding that special person to bear your heart out in good times and the bad. You have found each other to help each other and make memories together because there’s no power greater than two souls united by the bond of love.

Did you see how I did that? That’s how poetry is used to enrich rehearsal dinner toast.

  • If you have a good singing voice, then you can probably sing that example I just wrote to the rhythm or melody of a well-known song and you will be loved and admired for that.

Mothers rehearsal dinner toast samples or examples

These are just a few cute ways to go about it. So feel free to do what you think is right for you or even come up with your own style and you will be proud you did.

P.S: Is the thought of giving you a great mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech toast keeping you up at night? It shouldn’t if you just follow what most moms do. By following this simple plan that's guaranteed to help you write a great mom speech like the one you read above.

'' Hello Dan, their wedding went very well. The usual stress beforehand for the couple organizing the event but all things to do went so smoothly. I also like to say that I'm so proud of my speech, almost got a standing ovation, lol! I'm so glad I've found you. I will definitely recommend you to my friends and family in future weddings. I wish you the very best.''-  Claire, New Zealand

Brother Or Sister Of The Bride Wedding Speech: How To Comfortably Write A Funny and Heartfelt Wedding Toast For Your Sister

Kiss your worries goodbye because I am going to show how to write a great brother or sister of the bride wedding speech that will make your big or small sister so proud of you.

M5

It is funny how time flies by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that you’ve pulled her hair, yanked her clothes, fought with her when she’s hogged the washroom, thwacked her on the head with pillows, stolen her clothes, made her cry to your parents on multiple occasions, argued with her till the break of dawn, robbed her of her secret chocolate stash, teased her with her high school crushes till she was red in the face.

Brother or sister of the bride wedding speech

All of this is literally just the tip of your’’ sibling-ship’’ iceberg. Now, your “snotty older sister” or “bratty younger sis” is all grown up and getting ready to marry the love of her life (or a hapless soul, as you’d call it) - however, all said and done, you know you’re incredibly thrilled for her deep, deep down.

As her younger or older brother or sister, you also have the distinction of delivering a funny and heartfelt wedding toast speech that your big or little sister really deserves.

A well-written sibling speech is also a great way to take the mickey out of your sister (in a nice way, of course) and you can have a LOT of fun writing it.

We are going to have a lot of fun as we look closely at how to write an amazing wedding speech for your sister.

Please Take Note Of This Before You Speak

But before we do, let’s look at a few things that stand in the way of most siblings when they try to put together their scrambled thoughts and ideas.

If you have ever given a wedding speech or any kind of speech, you will agree with me that pulling one-off successfully is not a walk in the park.

If you have ever goofed sometime in the past when you were asked to give a few remarks before a group of people, then you can be sure that memories of that unfortunate experience will cause you to lose your momentum and focus and you might even wonder if you are going to really make a difference at your sister’s wedding.

You don’t have to lose heart because you can turn the tide and make your sister proud with your words even if you have a poor track record of speaking in public.

This is how to make things work for you.

As you know, our minds control our lives and influence how we act in any given situation. So, you would do yourself a lot of good if you let go off the past and focus on this new task and believe down in your heart that you are going to leave everyone speechless.

You don’t have to doubt yourself bbecause you are created in the strikingly beautiful image of God and nothing can stop you!

The next thing you have to do is to get good ideas or content for your toast. There are two sources you can inspire you to come up with the right ideas.

Video speech examples on youtube are a goldmine of content that can help you come up with ideas for writing the best speech ever for your sister at her wedding reception or even at the rehearsal dinner night.

So, grab your pen and journal and put down thoughts that come to you as you watch these video clips.

Since this post is tailored for both the brother and sister of the bride, I will urge you to watch both video clips since they contain several nuggets of insights.

Sister of the bride speech video example

Brother of the bride speech video example

I hope you enjoyed watching both videos and learned a thing or two from those speech clips.

Now, let’s look at two short written examples that can help you piece your thoughts together. Again, I am going to share two examples with you and we will then break the second example down bit by bit so you can figure out how it was drafted.

Before we get into the process of constructing your speech, here’s a sample toast that is the perfect blend of sweet and sassy: Please note: you can read both or scroll down this page if you are the bride’s sister) I'd like to thank hitched.co.uk for this example.

Brother of The Bride Wedding Speech Example/Sample

Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, it is time for a select few of us to arise from our chairs and entertain you with witty banter and stories reflecting on the bride and groom. So whilst I am sure the remaining speakers are desperate to get up and give their respective speeches you will have to bear with me as I am first to step up to the plate.

As this is my first wedding let alone the first wedding speech I was given very specific instructions from those in greater authority as to what I am allowed to say. As such I did what any self-respecting human being would do… try to write my own speech… fail miserably then steal one from the internet. So welcome to Kim and Trevor's wedding.

For those who do not know me, I'm Graham, Pam's little brother and I've been given the great honour of giving my beautiful sister away to Scott. At this moment in time I am full of admiration and pride for the commitment they have both made today and one day hope to follow in the example they have set. Although when I get married I'll do it for one of the real reasons… pregnancy, for money.… or with a gun to my head.

Firstly I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks to everyone in attendance today particularly those who have travelled some distance to be with us on Pam and Scotts special day I know I speak for my entire family when I say thank you. Sadly there are those who cannot be with us on such a special day particularly Scott's parents who I know would have been the proudest people among us today witnessing their son marry my sister who makes him so happy. As such I would like everyone to raise a glass to our absent friends.

Today has been an absolutely fantastic day and all the credit in the world goes to the happy couple for putting in so much hard work into making today a success. I would also like to thank the photographer, the humanist minister, all of the musicians involved, the drivers and all the staff here at Rufflets who have made the day a success, especially the bar staff who I will personally ensure remain busy for the majority of the evening.

Pam and I have always shared a close relationship. I can think back and remember some of the great memories we've shared. From the times she used to tie me to the bed with dressing gown ropes and leave me for hours or the times where she would cake me in make up and make me wander round the house in women's clothing… and look as us now! Gathered here in a room full of our closest friends and family…

Wedding toast for my sister on wedding day

One of us holding a microphone and having spoken to all of her friends… unknowingly discussing everything she's ever drunkenly done. *smile wickedly*. But I still love her. She's my gorgeous big sister who I hold in such high regard and every day I try to be a little bit more like her. I wish I could match her ambition and her commitment to everything she has achieved; from graduating, getting back her health and of course today.

I believe Oscar Wilde said “we are all lying in the gutter… but some of us are looking at the stars” and I hope you will continue to reach for the reach for not only the stars… but another Bacardi.

To Scott. Where do I begin? I am delighted Pam has picked you to be the one she spends her life with. From the first time I met you I believed you would be a special person in Pam's life. You're kind, funny, tall, good looking, have all 10 fingers, charming and well mannered.

Yet in spite of all these facts you still claim to be an Aberdeen fan. I am proud to welcome you into our family and I couldn't be happier to be able to call you my brother, truth be told if I could have chosen anyone to be my sisters spouse I would've chosen you. And that's not just because I can claim all your old clothes and borrow your awesome CD collection.

So ladies and gentlemen I would like you all to raise a glass to toast the happy couple. Two of the finest people in all of our lives. Let's hope they have a long and happy marriage and may one day be blessed with a family of their own. Cheers.

Sister Of The Bride Wedding Speech Sample/Example

Good evening! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Katie, the very proud little sister of our glamorous bride. I want to start by congratulating the bride and groom and thanking all of you for making the journey here today.

When Margaret first asked me to be her bridesmaid I felt very delighted, but as the big day approached I was informed that I would be doing a speech. Being the shy one and absolutely hate talking in front of a group of people, I was trying to think of ways of getting out of it. But have any of you tried saying no to Maggie?

So I started thinking and thinking…and thinking…about what to talk about and the only thing I could think about was how much we fought growing up! I mean, we had to share a room for like 12 years, our mom dressed us in the same clothes every chance she got until we were old enough to say no.

We had to share toys, I always got her hand me downs. I was forced to follow every rule Mom and Dad made because she had to follow them. I always thought I was the cuter one because I had curly hair and she was slightly overweight because she loved her Little Debbie snack cakes!! …Now look at us, it’s almost the opposite! And I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything.

To this day, Maggie is the only person I know that can make me laugh so hard it hurts. And I can honestly say I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if I didn’t have a big sister like her to look up to and I’m proud to call you my big sister.

As for Jonathan, I never knew him before he dated my sister, so I can’t tell you horrible stories about him, but I can tell you that I think he is perfect for my sister! I’ve heard that girls tend to look for someone like their father, and I think Maggie has done the perfect job.

Jon is very laid back, easy to talk to, and he has a great sense of humor and likes to pick on Maggie. We are very happy to welcome him into our family. We know he’s made for us, and I hope we’re made for him! I’m excited to have another brother, but I hope Jon is mentally, physically…and emotionally prepared to have a new sister.

As I was thinking some more I thought about the words of advice that I’d like to give the newlyweds…

– Jon, don’t ever judge the choices that Maggie makes, because you are one of them.

– Set the ground rules immediately and then do everything Maggie says.

-If Maggie ever asks if she looks fat in something, I recommend falling to the floor in a mock coma.

– Men usually want either food or sex, so learn to cook and keep your pantry stocked if you want to get anything done.

– Two secrets of a long-lasting and happy marriage are a good sense of humour and a short memory.

Separately, you are two special and remarkable people, but together you are complete. As you sit side by side through this roller coaster of life, remember to scream from the peaks, hold hands through the dips, laugh through the loops, and enjoy every twist and turn; For the ride is much better when you share it together.

My greatest wishes for Maggie and Jon are that they have a continued loving friendship and partnership; that they enjoy success and laughter; that they are blessed with children, or not and that they always see and talk with their hearts.

Please raise your glass while I toast my sister and new brother-in-law.

Take each day and cherish your time together. Love one another and stand together. Take time to talk to one another. Put your love and family first, your job and hobbies second. May your love be like the wind—strong enough to move the clouds, soft enough to never hurt, but always never-ending. So here’s to love, laughter, and happily ever after. Cheers!

While that speech was sentimental in all the right places, it also had its fair share of lighthearted moments, which is essentially the foundation of a typical sibling speech for your sister.

However, since every sibling equation is different from the other, it must be noted that you don’t need to use every bit - you can utilize the parts that particularly apply to your sister and you. Without further ado, let’s get down to deconstructing the above!

You can still apply the lessons you learned even if you are the bride’s brother. So, let’s go on with this.

Step 1: How To Write The Introductory Remarks For Your Wedding Toast For Your Sister

While most of the wedding party members will be known people to you, there is a likelihood that you may not know or recognize some folks from the other partner’s side, for instance.

So it’s always a best practice tip to start off by introducing yourself, stating your relationship to the bride, and continuing in that vein.

A solid introduction also sets the precedent for the rest of the speech - if you’re comfortable with public speaking, you can make your introduction a solid attention-grabber by either launching into a funny anecdote or cracking a good-natured joke about your sister or brother.

If you’re a little more reserved or shy, a straightforward introduction will establish your role in the evening as well as serve as a great way to calm any nerves you might be having.

At all points, the key is to simply do what comes to you, naturally as Katie did below:

“Good evening!

But have any of you tried saying no to Maggie?!”

Did you see how the sister of the bride started her speech? Apart from expressing gratitude to the guests, your opening remarks should capture the attention of the wedding guests. There are some proven ways you can kick start your speech.

First, you can open it with love or marriage quotes. Here are actually a few quotes or lines you may use.

  • ''Siblings are put on this Earth to love, to entertain, and to annoy each other. It's part of their job requirements.''-Unknown

  • Sharing, I mean stealing, each other's things is the best part about having a brother (sister)-Unknown

  • "Siblings know your greatest faults, yet still love you and come to your defense." - Sally Painter

  • What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories." - George Eliot

  • Children of the same family, the same blood, with the same first associations and habits, have some means of enjoyment in their power, which no subsequent connections can supply. – Jane Austen

Second, you may start by singing a nice tune if you want your speech to be unique and memorable. Here's an example:

Third, you can simply share how you feel about saying something brief remarks about your sister. This can break the ice if you are really nervous. It was captured in the introductory example we saw earlier.

‘’… I was trying to think of ways of getting out of it.’’

Wedding toast for my sister on her wedding day

Step 2: How To Write The Content Or Outline Of Your Wedding Toast For Your Sister

Since you’ve spent a good chunk of your life growing up with your sister, it’s safe to say that you know her inside out and all the stuff she’s done.

So, this part of the speech will definitely be the biggest section of them all. This is where you recount notable incidents in your lives, the fails, the fun, and all the theatrics you both got up to when you were kids or teenagers or adults.

However, it’s important to exercise ample discretion when picking out these instances - make sure that the events that you choose to share are fine from the event’s standpoint.

For instance, if you’re unsure about narrating a particular incident in front of your family and friend, stay on the safe side and don’t do it. The last thing you want to be doing is dampening the mood of the celebrations.

Here are some kick-starter questions to get you going:

  • How was it like when you were growing up with your sister?

If she’s your big sister, you can share her influence on you growing up.

If she’s your younger sister, you can share your impact on her life.

If you are twins, share your impact on each other's life.

  • What were your favorite pastimes?
  • What did you both usually fight over?
  • What are some funny incidents that both your sister and you look back at now and laugh over?
  • How is your sister as a person?
  • What are her best or positive attributes?
  • What do you love about your sister?
  • What does having her in your life mean to you?

Answers to the above questions were very helpful when Katie had to construct this short example about her sister.

“So I started thinking and thinking…and thinking…about what to talk about and the only thing I could think about was how much we fought growing up! I mean, we had to share a room for like 12 years…We had to share toys, I always got her hand me downs.

I was forced to follow every rule Mom and Dad made because she had to follow them. I always thought I was the cuter one because I had curly hair and she was slightly overweight because she loved her Little Debbie snack cakes!! …Now look at us, it’s almost the opposite! And I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything……..”

You can do likewise by putting your thoughts and emotions to the questions above and stringing together a wedding speech about your sister even if you don’t have a way with words.  You may go back to re-read those templates for inspiration and just try to write a rough draft. Remember, you can always go back to fix it.

Step 3: Don’t Forget To Say Something About Your New Brother-In-Law Too

Once you’re done recounting your sister’s escapades, it’s time to move on to the newest member of your family, your new brother-in-law.

As the sibling of the bride, your speech will also serve as a warm introduction or welcome to them.

Here, you can take an approach that you deem fit, based on your comfort level with them.

Some siblings have known their brother-in-law for years (in case their sister has been in a long term relationship with them prior to tying the knot), so the communication will flow naturally.

If you’ve traveled with your sister and her then-fiancé, now-life partner before, you can reference certain memories or recount particular experiences.

You can also talk about how it was to meet them for the first time and how it is now, having them in your life.

A great way to appreciate them is to compliment them on how happy they make your sister, and how grateful you are for their presence in your lives.

However, if you don’t share a deep connection with them, it’s fine - you can stick to the conventional way of welcoming them into the family. But make sure that your speech includes them; they are going to be your new sibling after all!

“As for Jonathan, I never knew him before he dated my sister, so I can’t tell you horrible stories about him, but I can tell you that I think he is perfect for my sister!

I’m excited to have another brother, but I hope Jon is mentally, physically…and emotionally prepared to have a new sister.”

Step 4: How To End Your Wedding Speech For Your Sister

Like the introduction, the ending is equally important. These are your final words to your sister and her new partner, so make them count.

While most parents of the groom or bride's speeches are rife with life advice, it’s not necessary that you have to go down that same road.

Even if you want to give your sister and her new partner some handy hints about marriage and merriment, you can phrase it in a way that’s more casual and colloquial, basically an approach that represents your relationship in a far more fitting way. It helps to send the message across sans the heavy wording as you can see below:

“As I was thinking some more I thought about the words of advice that I’d like to give the newlyweds…

– Two secrets of a long-lasting and happy marriage are a good sense of humor and a short memory.”

Well, you can share some practical pieces of advice if you are already married and the bride will appreciate it so much.

Some religious or Christian siblings too end with bible verses or simply make their speeches faith-based. If you want to follow that, you can use any of these bible quotes:

Psalm 128 1

Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

James 1:17

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Proverbs 18:22

22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing,
And obtains favor from the Lord.

No one is expecting you to whip out the Bible and quote a serious passage, so take the opportunity to get as creative as possible.

If you’re musical, there’s nothing sweeter than singing your sister one of her favorite songs (one that you swore you’d never, ever sing to her).

Or if you’re a talented lyricist, you can even recite a poem you’ve written for her. The possibilities are endless!

“Separately, you are two special and remarkable people, but together you are complete. As you sit side by side through this roller coaster of life, remember to scream from the peaks, hold hands through the dips, laugh through the loops, and enjoy every twist and turn; For the ride is much better when you share it together.”

You can also use a few of these best wishes

  • Congratulations on your wedding, sister. I wish you and your husband all the best as you begin your new life. I know that you two will be happy together and prosper together no matter what life throws at you because you both have what it takes to accomplish your dreams.

  • Congratulations to a lovely couple. I wish you both every blessing as you start on the road ahead with your new husband. I love you both very much.

  • Congratulations to the newlyweds! you two couldn’t be more perfect for one another and I am very confident that you will build an amazing life together”
