Short Father of The Bride Speech: A Very Simple Guide To Writing And Delivering A Short Father Of The Bride Wedding Toast Even If Your Writing Sucks

Have you ever wondered how some fathers of brides give short and sweet father of the bride wedding speeches while several others miss the mark?

M6 (1)

Giving a beautiful speech at your daughter’s wedding is something most fathers dream of, yet the overwhelming majority of them don’t live up to expectations because they don’t really understand what it takes to come up with a unique and heartfelt speech about their daughters and sons-in-law.

Most of us think that to be successful at this, you have to be a naturally good writer or even be pretty good at public speaking.

Both gifts are good to have but are not must-haves when you have to put together something sweet about your daughter and son-in-law.

Now, guess what?

Putting your thoughts on paper is a high-pressure task for anyone- no matter how witty and eloquent they are- but thankfully they are tried and tested tips and advice and templates you can wisely use to write something your daughter, new son-in-law, and your whole family can be so proud of you.

That is the greatest dream any father can hope for on her daughter’s wedding day, right?

Short father of the bride speech

Well, before we get into the heart of the matter, let us closely look at one of the major threats that cripple most dads from performing so admirably and how you can turn things around for your good.

You need not worry if you are still worried about what to say and what not to say because I am going to share with you everything you need to know about writing a truly memorable speech.

Please Tackle This Head Before You Even Attempt To Write A Single Word

As you know, almost every speaker cringes with fear, guilt, and embarrassment whenever they are asked to speak because of past failures.

If you have ever failed to speak with poise, flair, and confidence at any event you were invited to, you will begin to feel butterflies in your tummy as you envisage how your speech will be received this time around.

Believe it or not, it’s perfectly normal for your mind to conjure up images of past failures and that can keep you grounded if you focus so much on what went wrong and what could have been done differently.

If you are well known for making those blunders, your family will probably not expect much from you.

As soon as you are asked to deliver your remarks, they will start this internal dialogue that you are not good, but you can silence your critics by putting the past behind and visualize a new mental picture of you speaking with confidence to the admiration of everyone listening to you in the wedding hall.

Do you know what holding that mental image in your mind can do?

It will naturally boost your self-confidence, mood, and concentration and will also help you feel a bit more comfortable speaking in large crowds and hopefully remind you that everything will work out no matter how nervous you are.

That said, one might wonder…

What Should The Father of The Bride Speech or Toast Include?

It's a great question, a question I think we've all been asking ourselves.

And my response is this: ''Don’t write your speech if you don’t know what goes into making a great speech and we will be looking at that shortly''

First, let’s thoughtfully consider this for a moment. I am sure you wouldn’t travel to a foreign country without making an initial inquiry about what it feels like to be in that environment, right?

A lot of dads perform way below expectations because they get caught up in the trap of having to put down their ideas without really thinking about what to say and how to say it best.

To come up with a heartwarming message, you first have to gather ideas to help you write and you shouldn’t look far for them.

Video-sharing platforms like youtube.com are great places to find rich ideas for the clever expression of your thoughts.

Now, let’s get into action and grab a piece of paper and pen and hop over to your favorite search engine and insert keywords like the father of the bride speech at the wedding reception, father of the bride speech for rehearsal dinner, etc.

Do watch several clips and ask yourself which ideas you can incorporate into your own speech. Also, jot down phrases that speak to your heart and see if you can fit it into your script.

By the way, here are two of the best fathers of the bride speech videos you can learn from if you are the visual type of person. Please enjoy and prosper.

If you enjoy reading as much as I do, then, I have good news for you because I want to bring to your attention an indispensable resource for coming up with a brilliant speech about the bride and groom.

Have you got any idea what this proven resource is? You have five minutes to come up with the right answer.

Well, our time is up! Oh boy, I am sure you’re struggling with this. But can you at least guess what the answer is?

Father of the bride speech templates! That’s it. If you mentioned that, then congratulations!

Free father of the bride toast is one of the materials to help just about anyone write what is on their minds.

As you are pretty much aware, there are so many of them online and almost every father is scouring for ideas and if all you do is simply copy ideas from the different pieces you discover, your message will not hit the right emotional chords.

Instead, you should model your speech after them in a way that captures your own voice and personal style without being a copycat.

What should the father of the bride say at daughter's wedding

To give you an idea, let’s study this short example and after that, we will take it bit by bit so you get a sense of the direction I want you to follow concerning this.

First …

A Short And Sweet Father of The Bride Speech Example

Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Mike Golan and I am the happy father of the bride. Thanks so much for being here tonight and I want you to know that it means a lot to see the happy couple surrounded by family and friends on the occasion of their wedding.

Alexa, nothing can compare the joy I felt deep down in my heart when I walked you down the aisle to give you away. You made me feel so blessed for having you in my life.

You’ve always meant the world to me right from when you were born to this day.

I remember holding you like a priceless gift when you came into our lives and even though my work schedules kept me away most times, I promised myself that I would do my very best to help your mom raise you into the girl we’ve always been dreaming of.

From changing your diapers to coaching you in softball to our numerous family vacations, I have enjoyed every moment spent with you.

As I watched you grow into a very beautiful person, I worried about the kind of person you would get married to and if that guy will love and protect you like I always do.

Out of nowhere, David walked into your life and I knew immediately that he was the one we have been waiting for and that brought tears of joy in my heart for you both.

David is kind, humble, polite, and loving. Over the years, David and Alexa have been through a lot and have come out stronger for it and I am very confident that he will stand by our daughter through thick and thin.

Pamela and I are excited to have him join our family and we look forward to the future with him and his wonderful parents.

David and Alexa, as you start a life together, always love each other and always work as a team and you will have a long, happy life together. Always remember in your walk together that the couple that works together stays together.

We wish you the very best in everything you do and God bless you.

Using that example as a guide, let’s see…

How To Write Your Father of The Bride Speech

First, let’s break it down so you can get an understanding of how the entire thing was written from start to end.

Let’s begin by recapping the opening lines briefly.

''Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Mike Golan and I am the happy father of the bride.

Thanks so much for being here tonight and I want you to know that it means a lot to see the happy couple surrounded by family and friends on the occasion of their wedding.''

Oh, I almost forgot to say this and I hope it’s not too late to slip it in, right?

Ok…thank you for the love.

After you have said thank you to the guests, you should thank some individuals who have played a key role in your daughter’s life.

People like your own wife or the mother of your daughter...

Short and simple speech by father of the bride

An example is

''Let me take a moment to thank my wife and Alexa’s mom Sherry for being a loving mom and a great role model. She looks so beautiful tonight and I would like to let her know that her tireless efforts have brought our daughter thus far. God bless you so much, Sherry.''

If her mom is deceased, you can still mention that and pay her a glowing tribute.

  • You can thank the groom’s parents too. This can help us illustrate. A special thanks go to David’s mom and dad, Mike and Diana, for their love and support throughout the years and for raising an absolutely wonderful young man
  • You may add others like her siblings, friends, uncles, and aunts and state why you are thanking them

You see, the opening line of any presentation is the most important part of it because it serves two purposes:

  • It breaks the ice and makes wedding guests chuckling with delight if you start with a good joke or on a funny note
  • Starting with something engaging will make everyone want to listen to you

Even though I write speeches every now and then, I spend an enormous amount of time on the opener because when I know when I get it right, the story will then flow seamlessly.

Nonetheless, coming up with a memorable opening is something most folks struggle with a lot and I am happy to share with you a few clever ways of doing that without breaking a sweat.

Are you ready to go? After greeting the audience, you can begin with one or more of these:

  • You can begin with a good quote about marriage
  • You can start with how you felt when your daughter was born….did you see that in our extract? If you’ve forgotten about it, then here you go again

''I remember holding you like a priceless gift when you came into our lives and even though my work schedules kept me away most times...''

  • You can simply start by sharing how you felt when you got married

For example….Today Alexa is getting married to Diana and this beautiful occasion brings back memories of when I got married to my wife 30 years ago…

  • You can lighten up the mood by starting with some funny lines or even a joke

For example, if you can use this joke creatively, you will get tons of compliments.

''A long time ago in Brussels, a Belgian went to his local priest and confessed ‘’ Forgive me, father, for I have sinned. During the Second World War, I hid a Jewish man in my attic.

That’s not a sin,’ said the priest. It was an act of great kindness. But I made him agree to pay 30 francs for every week he stayed.

I admit that wasn’t particularly charitable, said the priest. But you did it for a good cause.’’

‘’ Thank you, father, Father,’’ said the man. ‘’ That’s a great relief to me. I have just one more question.’’

‘’ What’s that? ‘’

‘’ Do I have to tell him the war is over?''

If you want to continue with that, you can continue by saying

Ladies and gentlemen, I have good news for you. After waiting for seems like forever for this occasion to happen, I am happy to announce that the waiting war is over

Did you see how I inserted those underlined words?

Having said that, let’s look at how to write the content of your toast.

Again, let’s look at excerpts of our example so we can know exactly which course of action to take.

''From changing your diapers to coaching you in softball to our numerous family vacations, I have enjoyed every moment spent with you.

As I watched you grow into a very beautiful person, I worried about the kind of person you would get married to and if that guy will love and protect you like I always do.

Out of nowhere, David walked into your life and I knew immediately that he was the one we have been waiting for and that brought tears of joy in my heart for you both. ''

The body comes after the introduction and I often like to compare it to the human heart because it gives life and meaning to the rest of the body of your message.

This part is fairly easy to write. But with a lot of random thoughts running through your head, it becomes so hard to shift through what’s important to say and what not to say.

However, picking a style for your speech will help you determine the kind and number of stories to share.

For example, if you want to do something sentimental or hilarious, then you have to jot down at least a funny anecdote you can remember. If you have lots of them, the wedding guests will never forget what you said as no one would like to sit through a boring speech. Do you?

That brings me to this point. Please make sure whatever style you should reflect your personality or it should be something you are comfortable with. You should never imitate a style of presentation you admire no matter how lovely it is.

A few years ago, there was this amazing father of the bride's speech that went viral, and almost every father was copying what the talented dad did…Can you imagine how awkward that was?

You’re very unique and very special and whatever you say should be based on that distinctiveness.

With that foundation laid, let’s look at a few pointers that can help you come up with the outline of your toast. Grab a paper and pen and write down answers to these questions

  1. What was your daughter like when she was a little girl?
  1. What fond memory do I still have in mind?
  1. What did both of you enjoy spending time doing? Did you go on trips? Were you her sports coach or you took her swimming? ... It goes on and on
  1. What are her accomplishments in school, sports, etc.? And do you really want to share her exploits growing up?

Hint: You will notice as you go through this mental exercise is that you will end coming up with so many cheerful and embarrassing.

M5

Leave out what will upset her or even make her lose her sanity and focus on good ones you really want to use.

Short speech by father of the bride to daughter on wedding day

To make things fairly easy for you, you can develop it based on this simple structure:

Introduction---name and your relationship with the bride and groom as we’ve seen

Body---(a) talk about when she was a little girl…mention qualities like kindness, activeness, etc., and back it up with no less than a story about the character trait.

(b) Do the same thing for her growing up years or teen years by sharing a minimum of two (2) stories

(c) You can wrap it up with how proud you are of her accomplishments

That top-to-bottom strategy always works if you are running out of time or you are simply tongue-tied.

After you have got your stories together, just write what’s on your mind using that pre-written father of the bride speech or any beautiful one like this one as a reference. You don’t have to break your neck getting it right the first time.

You should consider rewriting whatever you produce until you are completely happy with your draft speech.

Now, let’s see...

How To End Your Speech with A Bang

Your closing remarks will most likely remain in the minds of the wedding guests for the rest of their lives.

Thankfully, here are some tips to help you conclude on a strong note that will leave a deep impression on everyone.

First, you can end with a quote from the bible if you are a deeply religious person or Christian.

For example, you may use this well-known bible reading to end like this

David and Alexa, today is the day the Lord has made. Scripture affirms in 1 Christian 13: 13 that there abides faith, hope, and love but love’s the greatest of these.

The love you have for each is God’s best to you, so treasure that gift every day of your lives and your joy will overflow like a refreshing spring…

Did you see that?

Second, you can end with a very touching poem. Here’s one

Love is beautiful and great.

When you find the right person, it will be fate

My love I have for you is so strong; nothing can ever go wrong

It was love at first sight. I wanted to be with him every night.

Every day I feel so good inside…I can’t wait till the day I become his bride

As far as the future, we cannot see, but together forever we will be

What we have is love; it is as beautiful as a dove.

Our love has grown into something bigger that has shown your heart and my heart connected, but our love is so expected,

Wondering how we can use that poem to close remarkably? Please watch carefully as I do that.

David and Alexa, your love is so beautiful and so strong

And nothing can ever go wrong if you always work hand in hand

As far as the future, we cannot see, but together forever your love will be

Your hearts have connected

And now from this day, I will always pray that you never lose that sense of connection because your love is

So beautiful and so strong

Again, you can use the lyrics of a love or wedding song everyone can sing along to wrap up if you have a good voice.

How to end your father of the bride speech toast

The best way to end however is by sharing some words of wisdom based on your years of being married.

P.S: Most dads of the bride use this...Have you considered it? Want to write and give a great wedding speech but can't seem to get started because you don't know the exact words to use?

Mother Of The Groom Speech or Toast : You Can Laugh At Your Mother Of The Groom Wedding Speech Worries And Come Up With The Best Speech Ever If You Simply Follow This Simple Guide

Wedding speech by mom of the groom to son and daughter-in-law

A couple of months ago, a mother of the groom wrote to us saying that she needed help with her speech but simply had no clue about how to come up with something memorable.

From our conversations, it was very obvious that she was scared to death about this whole thing and even though our hands were full, we helped her deliver the best speech of the night and she wrote back to say that...

From helping moms from the around, we’ve seen that most mothers, particularly those who are not good speakers get so intimidated when they are asked by their sons to say something at the wedding.

You see, saying something memorable about your son and daughter-in-law is a real labor of love you simply can’t take for granted because it’s sure to earn you the respect of the wedding guests, your family, friends, and loved ones.

I know that nothing can compare to the love you have for you and let me congratulate you on sacrificing so much to give him the future he truly deserves.

M5

Now, that he’s getting married to the woman of his dreams and you should all you can to ensure that your speech is on point.

Please don’t worry if you don’t have a way with words or you are not a confident speaker because I am going to share with you tips, templates, ideas, and examples I personally use to write speeches for mothers of the groom.

But before we get into all the details, let’s closely look at a critical issue that prevents even the most eloquent mom from performing so well on D-day and how to turn the tide on these challenges.

Get This Right And You Will Make It

If you have ever given a speech your whole lifetime, chances are you might be overcome with nerves when you are asked to speak before a crowd.

Regardless of how you fared, that performance might leave you with unpleasant memories and it can ultimately affect your performances whenever you are asked to speak even before a small group of people.

Even if you have ever failed to live up to expectation, you can turn the tables in your favor by renewed your mind and that simply means developing a positive mental attitude.

Believe it or not, you can make a difference this time around by putting behind your past flops and embarrassments and believing that you can no matter how you are feeling at the moment.

By doing so, you will be empowered from within and you will bubble over with the confidence you absolutely need to speak confidently with poise, flair, and confidence.

Remember that journey of a thousand miles begins with a step and that step here should be a healthy mental disposition which is the bedrock of your ''speaking success'' so to speak.

Mother of the groom wedding speech

Having said that, let’s now look at ...

How To Get The Right Ideas To Help You Compose A Sweet Mother Of The Groom Toast

Before you even write a single, you need to gather certain facts and ideas to help you put the content of your speech together.

I call this part the pre-writing mode as it puts you in the mood for the clarity of your thoughts.

Guess what? One of the best places to hunt for ideas is the youtube platform as well as several other video sharing platforms you know of. Once you get there, you then plug in the keyword you have in mind.

You may pop in words like a speech by a single mom to his son on the wedding day, mother of the groom speech video, best ever speech by mother of the groom, etc.

Wait for a couple of them to pop up and watch a few or more clips if you have much time.

As you keeping those clips, put down words and phrases that speak to you and your particular personality. As you do, ask yourself which of those ideas you feel you can incorporate into your toast.

By the way, this is a short video to help you in this endeavor.

Please did you watch it? And did you find it helpful?  And do you think you can use the ideas for your own delivery?

That brings me to the next point…

How To Use Mother Of The Groom Speech Examples

I have had the distinct privilege of reviewing mother of the groom wedding speech samples and I often notice that a lot of wedding speakers simply copy and paste the examples they find online without properly improving and refining it to suit their own style and that doesn’t always contribute to making their speeches unique in any way.

In this post, I shared how to make the most out of mother of the groom speech samples.

Today, I am going to share with you a short mother of the groom speech example. Afterward, we will break it down bit by bit to see what went into creating it so you can get a clear idea of how to write a speech that will get you tons of compliments. Are you ready?

Ok, here you go

Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Kyle and I am the mother of the groom.

Mark, I was overwhelmed with pride when you exchanged promises with Cindy. I couldn’t help but remember all the great moments, you and I have together, right from the day you came into my life.

From spending precious moments with you when you were just a little boy to when you told me that you have found the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with, you have always given me many reasons to be so proud of you.

As a little boy, you were so sweet, kind, and fun to be around. I still recall how you wore my dress with ruby red shoes to match and sang with pretend microphones to entertain us whenever we met as a family.

Growing up, you followed in your dad’s stead and you started fishing at such an early age. One time we went fishing and Mark caught bass and was so upset that he could not get the hook of its mouth.

Worried that the fish might die, Mark took it home and kept in a bucket full of cold water and managed to get the hook out of his mouth after trying so hard for close to four hours before releasing it back to the lake.

That sense of determination continued well into his teens as he always put his whole heart to whatever he set his sights on and always came out on top.

Mark, we are so proud of the man you have become and nothing gives me joy to see that you are getting married to Cindy.

M3

You’re about to embark on the biggest adventure of your life and I am confident that together with Cindy, your future will be so bright.

Cindy, thank you so much for making my son so happy; and for standing by him all these years.  I love you so much and beyond thrilled for your future life together.

Mark and Cindy, all you need for this journey is a spirit of togetherness, love, forgiveness and you will make your house a true home. We love you both and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.

God bless you.

Can you write something close to that or even something similar?

It’s not too hard as you probably think. Well, I promised to elaborate on how we came up with that, so, first and foremost, let’s re-look at the introductory remarks of the speech above.

Below is an excerpt…

''Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Kyle and I am the mother of the groom.''

The opening line is rather short and pretty bland. But we can throw in a few details into the mix so it comes together very well.

To make it stand out, you can write down the name of people you want to thank.

Thank persons who have contributed to making him who he is. People like his dad, grandparents, your own parents for helping you raise him.

You may add others like the mom and dad of the bride for their help and support and for welcoming your son into their family.

Then, you should thank the guests for coming out from far and near.

This is your assignment: Scroll up and look at the introduction once more and list all the persons you want to express gratitude to and see if you can come up with a brief and good salutation.

If you are struggling to do that, then this short example can inspire you to come up with one.

Good evening and welcome everyone to Mark and Cindy’s rehearsal dinner. I am Angela, Mark’s mother.

Thank you so much for coming from far and near to celebrate the joining of this happy couple and I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped to make this a night to remember.

Before I get started, I want to take time to thank Angela and Michelle for helping the happy couple plan this fantastic wedding.

I want to extend a big thank you to Dr. Anry who came all the way from Tulip to officiate the ceremony tomorrow as he’s known the couple since they were high school sweethearts.

I hope you can write that?

Closely connected to that are these sentimental thoughts:

''Mark, I was overwhelmed with beautiful emotions of pride when you exchanged promises with Cindy''

It goes without saying that it takes just a moment to leave a lasting, positive impression on someone you are meeting for the very first time and that’s so true.

Speech by mother to son and daughter-in-law on wedding

Some of the wedding guests who will be attending the wedding rehearsal or the reception are people you are going to meet for the very first time and even if you are a poor speaker, they might not notice it until you are through with your message.

What this means is that you should put in extra effort into coming with a gripping introduction as Angela did.

I know you’re probably wondering about how to write a heart-gripping introduction and I am happy to share with how you can start on a very bright note.

First, you can start by sharing your personal feeling about how you felt when your son was born as you saw above.

Second, you can share how you feel about his wedding day.

Moreover, if you are a naturally funny person, you can get everyone grinning from ear to ear with a hilarious anecdote.

Once, a woman shared an incident with me when her daughter was born.  She said they decided to nickname her Rocky because she wasn’t too good looking at birth. She absolutely loved that story and asked that it be included in her speech.

I felt it wasn’t right to add that to her speech because that would be utterly embarrassing. But she stood her grounds and we came up with a great introduction.

Again, if you know of any good quotes about sons, you can use them creatively.  Here are a few of them

''There’s an endearing tenderness in the love of a mother to a son that transcends all other affections of the heart ''---Washington Irwin

''Happy is the son whose faith in his mother remains unchallenged ''---Louisa May Alcott

''Every mother hopes that her daughter will marry a better man than she did, and is convinced that her son will never find a wife as good as her father did.''----Martin Anderson Nexo

''Sons are the anchors of a mother’s life ''---Sophocles

''A mothers love is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, it never fails or falters, even though the heart is breaking''--- Agatha Christie

''To a mother, a son is never a  fully grown; and a son is never a fully grown man until he understands and accepts this about his mother ''--- Unknown

I particularly love the last quote very much!

Having said that, let’s look at how to write the body or story of your speech.

Once again, let’s look at parts of it to get a sense of where this is headed

''As a little boy, you were so sweet, kind, and fun to be around. I still recall how you wore my dress with ruby red shoes to match and sang with pretend microphones to entertain us whenever we met as one family''

Let me ask you this: What did you notice from reading that extract? As you review it, you will realize that it’s essentially a story outline of the life of Angela’s precious boy.

This is the part of your speech that everyone will be eager to listen to because we all love stories. So this is what I suggest you should do right away if you quickly want to come up with the right stuff for this all-important part of your presentation.

Please pick up a piece of paper and provide answers to the following questions:

  1. What was he like when he was a toddler?
  2. Why was he always a source of joy and laughter?
  3. Do you have a fond memory or hilarious story you wish to add to your speech?
  4. How did you feel when he brought the bride home?
  1. What were your impressions when you met her for the very first time? Remember, not to say anything negative….It’s their happy day, so it’s best to put her in a better light…

If you have written your responses next to each question, you can begin by putting your ideas together using that speech example as a template.

To make things easier, you can start with a good story about his childhood before moving on to his teen years and finally stating why you are so proud of him.

There’s nothing wrong with adding his accomplishments in sports, personal life, or in school.

Well, some mothers think it’s obnoxious to include that. So if you are in that same league, then you have to avoid tooting your own horn.

Please bear in mind that the guidelines above can be very useful when you want your speech to flow from his childhood through adulthood.

Mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech

If you want your mother of the groom wedding speech to dwell on an aspect of his life, say only his growing up years, then you can simply skip that.

Some mothers simply start their speeches and end with something like this

''Even though today is one of the best days of your life, I always like to think that the day you were born was the most memorable day of your life. Over the years, you have grown into a very kind and generous young man and I am so proud of the man you have become.''

More often than not, your first draft won’t make look so good but you shouldn’t let that dampen your spirit. You can shelf it for a few hours and come back to refine it till you are completely happy with it.

Now, let’s see...

How To End Your Speech With A Bang!

There are several ways of wrapping up your speech and I am going to share with you some ideas of how to do that since your closing lines are likely to linger on the minds of the guests for a long time to come.

So, you can employ one or more of the following ideas at the end of your wedding speech.

If you are a Christian or a very religious person, then you might have to consider ending with a verse from the bible. My very good friend Christine loves Psalm 128: 1-6 so much.

Psalm 128

1

Psalm 128 A song of ascents.

1

Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.

2

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

3

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.

4

Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

5

May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem,

6

and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

That verse can be used as a prayer or even a blessing.

Again, love or marriage poem can work words even if you are not a poetess. Just imagine how proud your son will be of you if you close with these beautiful lines

Today will be perfect in every way

A beautiful fairy tale

For your wedding day

The theme of your day

Is to have love and laughter

And to live your days

Happily ever after

Living happily is

What we need to survive,

So how does one keep

The magic alive?

How do you light a spark

That never goes out?

And how does one live a life

Without fear or doubt?

How do some people manage

To keep their love strong?

And how do some couples

Always feel like they belong?

What do you need to do

To stay in love forever

And make each day special

And grow fonder together?

Well, these very questions

You must address every day

You must take the time

To go out of your way

To always share love

And always share laughter

To do whatever it takes

To live happily ever after.

Here’s a recipe

I think is a must

So let’s begin with

Always having trust

Don’t forget it’s important

To have total respect,

And to always stay loyal

To keep your love perfect

You must communicate each and every day.

Three special little words

You must never forget to say

‘’ I love you’’ it’s amazing

How these words make you feel

Happy, safe, and valued

And they will keep your love real

A simple act of kindness

Goes a long, long way

Blend it with understanding

And you can’t go astray

Don’t forget friendship.

It will help you to cope

Add a sprinkle of faith

And an abundance of hope

Remember your smile

It’s beautiful to see

It can brighten one’s day

So my wish for both of you

Is you always have love and laughter,

And I pray that you will enjoy

Your happily ever after!

Wow! I loved every bit of this poem. Don’t you think it can be used for an entire speech if you really want to wax poetic about the couple?

Even all three tips work well in every situation; I always find that the best way to draw the curtain is by giving the couple some marriage advice.

Mother of The Bride Speech or Toast : A Down-To- Earth Guide To Simply Writing A Memorable Mother Of The Bride Speech For Your Daughter and Son-In-Law That Will Get You Tons Of Compliments

Have you ever heard a mother deliver a beautiful mother of the bride's speech at her daughter’s wedding and wished that when your daughter is getting married you would make her proud too?

Mother of the bride speech

You are not alone…Most mothers wish that they had what it really takes to write a sweet mother of the bride's speech. But, the overwhelming majority of them are just not good with words…How sad this is!

I will never forget how I felt when I received a message from Lori asking for help with her speech when it was only four days to her child’s wedding day.

I was apparently overwhelmed with work so I asked her to put something together since she was a writer and I will later review it

A few hours later, Lori wrote back to say even though she was a writer, she had never given a speech before and was worried she might flop.

After much pleading and cajoling, we co-wrote her piece and this was her feedback afterward: ( Please click on the image to read her words)

Mother of the bride speech ideas and tips

I know you probably believe that it takes an eloquent speaker or a gifted writer to write a unique mother of the bride speech.

Can I completely be honest with you?

Having a way with words can help to a certain extent.  So can your gift of gab.

But, they are by no means all that you need to give the best speech ever at your daughter’s wedding and you’re robbing yourself of one of the greatest sources of joy and fulfillment in your life as a mother if you’re still thinking you need those twin-gifts.

And that brings us to the next side of the equation:

So What Should The Mother Of The Bride Say In Her Speech (And What Should She Not Say)?

That’s a great question! But, please…please…please stick with me here because I am going to share with you some time-tested ideas, tips, advice and templates I have personally used so you can easily write a heartfelt speech and not embarrass yourself and your baby girl.

Without further ado, let’s jump right in…

Always Look Before You Leap or Else You Will Drop Like A Stone

You see, in a bid to say what’s in their hearts, most moms look up mother of the bride speech examples online and other places in hopes of getting some words and phrases they can customize for their own scripts.

In spite of its obvious benefits, this commonly-used approach has several drawbacks as it can strip your completed draft of originality if not used more tactfully. You may check out this post I wrote about how to get the best out of them.

Now, consider this: would you take a trip to another country without learning a little bit about your intended destination? Would simply having a visa and enough cash suffice? Well, you be the judge!

M3

Similarly, you shouldn’t even think of writing your speech without first finding out what goes into writing a great mother of the bride speech.

If you only put your thoughts together after scanning through a couple of examples, your speech won’t turn out too well.

Here’s what you should know before you even jot down your ideas. First and foremost, all great pieces go through this process:

  • Pre-writing stage
  • Writing stage
  • Post-writing stage

I follow the same processes listed above whenever I have to actually put something down on paper or even type on the keyboard.

Don’t worry…Just keep reading and I will share ideas on how to do just that.

Ok, let’s take it one step at a time and then put all the pieces together to create a sweet speech for your daughter.

Now…

Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Skip This Part And How To Make It Count

The pre-writing stage comes before the draft; this is the time for you to get your ideas down. And these ideas won’t just come to you unless you seek them out.

Wondering where you can find those ideas? Here’s what I would suggest you do now.

  • Watch a lot of interesting mother of the bride's speech video clips. Right below is a great example you can learn from.

P.S: Grab a pen and paper and write down phrases, words, and ideas you think you can include in your own speech as you watch that video or any other good one you can find.

There are plenty of such videos on online video-sharing platforms like YouTube which you can watch over and over again for inspiration and guidance. By the way, this is a good one to stimulate creative thinking.

In addition to that, you can study well-written mother of the bride speech examples intently and studiously like a student prepping for an admissions test.

You can read it like three times or more and consider how it was written and see if you can modify it to your needs.

By the way, here’s...

A Short Mother Of The Bride Speech Example

Good evening and welcome to the joining of Rachel and Mark

I’m Bernice and I am the mother of the bride.

I would like to thank everyone who has come from near and far to share in our joy and happiness. It means a lot.

Nothing can compare to the joy I have in my heart as my only daughter is getting married. Thank God, she’s found the love of her life.

Rachel was always a happy and lively little girl who loved playing with her chocolate Labrador retriever, Yogi.

Growing up, she played softball and I was lucky to have coached her for many years.

She was always a source of joy and laughter. When she was 15 years old, she began to study French and knew the basics, enough to get us by whenever we visited her grandparents in France.

Once, we were in Brussels for vacation and on our way to the city from our hotel, we got stuck on the third floor because the elevator kept breaking down.

I was totally freaked out by this and began to cry. After being stuck there for 2 hours, we overhead two French-speaking men chatting on the fourth floor. Rachel(my bilingual secretary) then shouted at the top of her lungs   " Aidez nous! " which, being interpreted means, Help Us! for those men to come to our rescue.

Thinking that " Aidez nous! " was the French version of hotel attendants, I cried out of utter frustration " Mr. Aidez nous! ...we are dying here. Can you please help us? "

Rachel gave me a look and said: "Mom…please don’t embarrass yourself anymore. Please let me do my job"

When they eventually showed up, they greeted me with a smile and said " comment allez-vous madame? which I later learned means? " How are you Madam"

Not wanting to embarrass us, I smiled wanly and stood still like the Statute of Liberty, wondering what I was supposed to say exactly!

Needless to say, when the fixed the elevator and took us out, we were dead tired and had to go back to our hotel room.

Rachel, I am so proud of you and proud of the woman you’ve become. You’ve always been so kind, giving, respectful, caring, and anytime I think about who you are, I keep wondering what good have I done to deserve a daughter with a true heart of gold!

I am so happy that you are getting married to  Mark.

I have had the privilege to get to know Mark over the last few years and I can say he is loving, polite, thoughtful, caring, and kind. I absolutely adore how he loves and adores my baby girl.

Mark and Rachel, you are a wonderful couple, and let me congratulate you on reaching this significant special milestone.

You have gone through a lot to get thus far and you are bound to have ups and downs as you begin this new phase of your life. So make sure to keep an open mind and be ready for whatever life throws at you. God bless you

M5

Did you enjoy that brief remark and wish you can write something close to that, if not better?  It’s way easier than you think.

You don’t have to photocopy my example. I cautioned you against that earlier…do you remember?

Just keep reading and you will find out how I wrote that so you can use my suggestions and advice to write something unique for your daughter without your head against a wall.

Heartwarming speech by mother of the bride

That said, let’s draw the curtain on the pre-writing stage and switch over to the writing stage.

We will use the template above as a guide to putting your thoughts and best ideas together.

That speech outline has three main parts and your presentation should have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.

Let’s recap the introductory remarks we saw in that sample speech.

Mother of the bride speech

As you can see, the opening lines have the following components

  • Name of the speaker and greeting the audience which forms an integral part of the wedding etiquette
  • Words of gratitude

Writing this part is obviously very easy. But you can alienate sections of the guests if you make sweeping statements like thank you all for coming.

Ask yourself questions like:

  • Who helped me raise my girl? Was it her dad or my parents or her uncles and aunts? Please list their names and state why you are thanking them.

For example, if her father is deceased, you can say

" My late husband who happened to be Rachel’s dad died when she was a teen. We still feel his love for us whenever we remember him and we so appreciate everything he did whilst alive.

Rachel’s come thus far because he gave his all to make her who she is today. We will always keep him in our hearts and I know he’s looking down at her with pride.''

  • Which persons influenced her life for the better? Your neighbors, her friends, her teacher, or who?

Just stretch yourself a bit and make sure you this fine opportunity to let the world know how much you appreciate the help they offered.

Remember,  '' Thank you'' is the best prayer that anyone could say. " — Alice Walker

Now, let's see how to write the content of your speech.  Ok, before we do so. Can you please put your creative thinking cap on and try to answer these questions?

  • Are you doing a joint-speech with your husband or going solo as a single parent or mom?

  • Are you going to deliver a long or short speech?

  • Are you looking forward to delivering a funny mother of the bride's speech or a combination of more styles like sentimental or even narrative? For example, if you really want to go for something hilarious, you should come up with humorous stories that will support the overall theme.

To illustrate, let’s see how  Bernice chose her story

Speech from mother to daughter on wedding day

Bernice made things easier for herself by simply talking about her childhood years through adolescence to becoming a bride.

This approach always works best when you want to give a very simple and sweet speech which is something I always recommend as that can take a huge load off your shoulders if you are asked by your daughter to put something together on very short notice.

If you find yourself in this situation, consider structuring your speech by including one or more of these ideas

Day of her birth--- You have to put down memories of what happened on that beautiful day and how you felt

Talk about when she was a little kid---Put down her beautiful qualities like how kind, active, and lively she was.

Don’t leave your points hanging. Expand on only admirable traits you have enough supporting details for.

Human qualities that speak to the heart are more preferred. Let’s see exactly how this works.

Example A: Rachel was an active little girl. She loves climbing fences. I’ll never forget how she tripped over our backyard fence when….

Example B: Rachel has a heart of old. She hates to see people suffer. I first noticed that when she was a kindergartener...

Which version do you think will tug at the heart of anyone listening to your message?

The latter by all means if you want something heartfelt or sentimental.

Well, if you want to get a good laugh out of the wedding guests, you can use the second illustration.  It's even possible to combine both styles to produce a memorable message that will be very well received by everyone.

Since the body of your speech is one of the key parts of your message, you should well to come up with a series of anecdotes about your daughter's life from when she was a little girl, to when she became an adult.

Speech by mother of the bride to daughter and son-in-law

The pointers below can steer you in the right direction:

  • Write down at least 2 or 3 memorable stories on paper about her childhood years
  • Put down at least 2 memorable stories on paper about her adolescent years
  • Jot down at least 1 memorable story on paper about her after college years

Then, you can look at those stories at every stage of her life and select which ones you wish to share.

In choosing, you should consider, how long or short you want your speech to last.  I know you might be wondering about this...

How Long Should My Mother Of The Bride Speech Be?

It should be long enough to cover the most important aspects of your speech. Some folks will encourage you to go for something short which is fine.

But I think if your story is very engaging, the wedding guests will love every bit of it and no one will feel bored.

I once listened to a thirteen-minute long speech and I enjoyed every bit of it. But honestly ask yourself if you can hold the interest of everyone for that long?

Well, if you want to honor your girl by speaking at different venues, say at the rehearsal dinner, or bridal shower or reception,  then you can tailor your stories accordingly.

For example, if you choose to speak at the bridal shower, you can share memories about her growing up years and use the remainder for another occasion like the reception.

But it’s always best to stick to a single plan as being a mother of the bride can be stressful, emotionally draining, and exhausting, and I don’t want you to be stressed out by this.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with making your remarks very short. But make sure it truly captures the essence of what makes your daughter's story unique.

Ok...let's get back to our last point about listing memorable events about her life. After you've chosen your preferred stories for those milestones, you should say something about your son-in-law.

This Is What You Can Say About Your Future Son-In-Law

  • · Talk about the first time you met him

  • · Mention how he’s made your daughter’s life better

  • · State his good qualities and why you think he will be a good husband

  • · welcome him to your family and thank his mom and dad

I am sure the extract below will give you an idea of how to write something about the groom:

Over the last few years, I have seen how polite, thoughtful, caring, and loving Mark is. He's also a great cook, an avid swimmer, and a passionate gardener. We are so full of admiration and respect for him and we are confident that she will treat Rachel right.

After you've written down a few words about your son-in-law, you may scroll up this page to re-study that short example and then piece your scattered thoughts together.

Don’t worry about how messy it looks after coming up with a first draft. Congratulate yourself once you have completed your task and take a break!

You can come back to it later and cut out parts you don’t really need by reading it out loud.  Keep doing that until it comes out best.

Now, let’s see…

How To End Your Mother Of The Bride Speech On A Memorable Note

Just as you have to start your speech on a bright note, you also have to close it well if you want to be remembered for putting on a great show.

Below are some proven tips to help you end with a bang.

  • First, you can simply share some pieces of advice based on your own experience of marriage

An example is...

Mark and Rachel, through the years, we have been married, we have discovered that a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. So, always date each other and put each other first in everything you do and you will rekindle the spark in your marriage.

  • Do you have in mind any lovely poem? Then, you should conclude with it.

  • Are you a Christian or a deeply religious person? If you are, you can pick a bible verse about marriage or use a religious quote or even end with a prayer. I love it when mothers end with a prayer and I feel it's one of the best ways of closing your speech.

The famous bible reading ''I Corinthians 13: 4- 7'' comes to mind.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres.

  • Again, you can end with the lyrics of a love song by modifying it and singing it out and this act alone will get you a standing ovation. Don’t worry if you don’t have a good voice.

You can personalize the conclusion of your speech by using the lyrics of a love song or even a tune everyone can sing along. You may use Ben King’s Classic: ''Stand By Me''

                                                        M4 (1)

One or more of the following love quotes can also be employed

  • ''A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.'' – Dave Meure

  • ''Never marry the one you can live with, marry the one you cannot live without.'' – Unknown

  • ''A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love.''– Pearl S. Buck

Using the underlined quote, I came up with this:

Marriage is a lifetime adventure filled with incredible memories with the person you cannot live without. Nonetheless, it's full of many ups and downs…

Did you see how I did that? Do likewise and you will prosper.  If one or all the points listed above won’t work for you, you can simply toast the couple after making brief remarks about your new son-in-law.

Mother of the bride toast at reception

P.S: Is the thought of giving you a great wedding speech keeping you up at night? It shouldn’t if you do what most moms do. By following this simple plan that's guaranteed to help you write a great mom speech like the one you read above.

Claire was quite skeptical when she came to us but we kept assuring what she will make her son and family proud-and this is what she sent over after the wedding was over.

'' Hello Dan, their wedding went very well. The usual stress beforehand for the couple organizing the event but all things to do went so smoothly. I also like to say that I'm so proud of my speech, almost got a standing ovation, lol! I'm so glad I've found you. I will definitely recommend you to my friends and family for future weddings. I wish you the very best.''-  Claire, New Zealand

Father Of The Groom Speech or Toast: A Simple and Easy-To-Follow Guide To Delivering The Best Speech For Your Son and Daughter-in- Law Even If Your Writing Sucks Or You Hate Being In The Public Eye

Have you ever listened to a really enjoyable father of the groom’s speech and wished you could do the same when your son is getting married to the love of his life someday?

Father of the groom wedding speech

You seem to be nodding in agreement and that’s a clear indication that you are bent on giving the best speech ever for your son and daughter-in-law at the wedding.

Well, D-day is here at last. But let me ask you this: do you really have what it takes to write a memorable speech that will make you loved admired and respected by your son, in-law, family, and friends?

Please don’t worry if you don't or you even failed to live up to expectation when you were asked to say a few words at your child’s wedding sometime back and you’re probably wondering if you stand a realistic chance of success this time around.

Well, you are not alone, my friend. Many fathers have let their children down countless times as they were not sure what to say or even know how to say it so eloquently.

Maybe you are thinking that you need to have good writing or speaking skills to give a great speech and I must say that popular thinking is so wrong.

Even though both skills are priceless assets when it comes to saying something heartfelt about your son and daughter-in-law, they are by no means all the skillset you need to put your scattered thoughts and ideas together.

If you don’t want to embarrass yourself, please stick with me because I am going to share with you all the tips, advice, hints, ideas, guidelines, and examples I resort to when fathers from all over the world ask me for help with this.

Four

Trust me, I am not going to hold anything back as my goal is to help you put together something beautiful even if you hate being in the public eye or your writing sucks.

So, please bear with me a little longer and you will be so glad you did!

Before we do so, there are a couple of things I want to bring to your attention so you don’t shoot yourself in the foot.

You Should Avoid This If You Really Want To Do Well At Your Son’s Wedding

While some fathers think they can wing it, others see no need to prepare their speeches ahead of time. And guess what several others do?

They simply copy and paste ideas and examples from the internet and make some edits to them before using them.  There’s nothing wrong with toeing this line. But I have found out that it doesn’t in any way help make any speech unique, although speech samples can be very useful if you seem to be running short on time.

Well, if you have a few days to your son’s wedding and need some quick ideas, you can modify them to suit your situation better and I have outlined how to use the father of the groom's speeches the right way in this article.

That being said, let’s look at this:

What Should The Father Of The Groom Say About His Son And Daughter-in-Law?

That’s a great question to ask because saying what’s on your heart I think is the most dignified role of being a father of the groom and you should put in the energy and effort required to make your speech heartfelt.

You really wanna know what the secrets are? Ok…I have a simple question for you: What, in your opinion, helped Christopher Columbus and his compatriots discover new territories around the world?

If you mentioned tools and heavenly bodies like stars, compasses, cross-staffs, and chip logs, then you are a great history student and  I offer my warmest congratulations!

You see, those early explorers didn’t venture out without first learning about the nature of the journey ahead they were embarking.  No wonder, they were so successful in their pursuits.

So, it is with writing a sweet father of the groom toast. The biggest mistake I see most fathers make is to write the content of their speeches without first finding out what’s actually involved in scripting a very good piece.

Just as the early explorers saw a need to consult their maps before venturing out, you too need to gather ideas before you even decide to put something down on paper.

Wondering how to come up with these ideas? It’s easier than you think.

Most people don’t know this, but videos about father of the groom speeches are a rich source of practical ideas that can inspire you to start and end your message on a bright note.

To make your ideas come to life, you should watch a good example and I would recommend seeing this video clip, even though they are several good ones on the internet.

This is what I have for you. Please watch it carefully and then, we will see what we can make out of it. As you watch it, please jot down ideas, words, and phrases you think you can incorporate into your own personal style.

If that clip is not enough, you can still look for more examples on the net.

Video examples are not the only goldmine of information for the tongue-tied father.

A well-written father of the groom speech example is an invaluable writing tool that can also help you decide on a format for your speech.

At this point, I would like us to study an example in detail, and then we will examine how we can use it to write a speech that will make everyone so proud of you.

I can’t wait to see friends and family complimenting you on great work done!

Can we please read it now? Kindly bring a pen and notepad to take notes.

What should the father of the groom say at son's wedding

Let’s now take a look:

A Short Father Of The Groom Speech

Hello, good evening and welcome everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jon Stewart and I am Mike’s proud dad and Tracie’s father-in-law.

It’s a blessing to see friends and family who have traveled from coast to coast; On behalf of my family, I’d like to say how grateful we are to have you come from all over to be with us tonight. Thank you so much for coming.

Growing up, Mike was easy to care for, a joy to be around and he loved dogs. Once, we drove down to the beach with my dog Tan.

After playing with Tan at the beach, we rented a wooden canoe and I insisted Tan join us. Mike asked if she had been in a canoe before and I sidestepped the question by replying, ''She’s a Labrador Retriever, of course, she’s fine in a canoe.''

We hadn’t gotten too far from the shore when Tan jumped out of the canoe to swim after some pelicans that were swimming on the water. Tan pursued the birds for quite some time.

Worried that Tan might be swept away by the tide, he looked at me and said, '' Dad, if I don’t swim to rescue her, we would lose her. So he put on his life jacket and chased after the dog.''

As we tried to help Tan to get back on the boat and head home, our canoe flipped over and we ended up in the bottom of the water.  It took the intervention of some lifeguards to get us back to the shore.

The years have gone by so fast and it’s a distinct privilege to see you grow up into an absolutely wonderful man that we see before us today.

Mike’s a very kind and loving person and he always goes out of his way to help me, his mom, and siblings as much as he can.

His rich kindness has made our lives better and I am very confident that he will extend that same love and respect to Tracie and the kids.

Over the last few years of getting to know Tracie and I can tell you that she’s a beautiful person from the inside out.

Tracie is a loving, caring, and driven person and a good cook too.  What more could we ask for? Let me use this opportunity to welcome her into the Stewart family with open arms even though we’ve considered her part of our family for all these years.

Mike and Tracie, what a wonderful day for our family; and especially you two. I'm so happy to share in your celebration and I really want to thank you for letting us share in your celebrations.

Congratulations and we look forward to watching you both build your lives together in love and harmony. So always love each other no matter the difficulties that may arise.

You surely will have moments of struggles. But if you always put each other first, you will make it through life and deeply appreciate all the beautiful gifts that will come your way.

As you build your lives together, it’s my hope and prayer that today will be the beginning of a long, happy life together.  God bless you.

Did you find that interesting? And which ideas did you find most compelling? And can you write something close to it, if not better?

No answer forthcoming? You don’t have to doubt yourself or your ability. You sure can.

That example is to give you a fair idea, so don’t copy it verbatim.

Now, I am going to walk you through…..

How You Can Write The Best Ever Father Speech…without breaking a sweat….

Are you ready to ''rumble?''

Ok… please don’t forget to get your pen or notepad or anything for scribbling notes. As you are pretty much aware, every writing piece has three key parts: an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.

So, first, let’s look at the introduction. See recap below

Short father of the groom speech ideas

As you did see from that extract, the introductory remarks comprise the following

  • He starts by greeting the audience and that’s one of the things you should do as that forms part of the wedding speech etiquette
  • Next is the name of the speaker (that’s you)and your relationship with the bride and groom.
  • That is followed by saying thank you to deserving persons who have contributed to making your son who is over the years.

You should mention their names and categorically state why they are so deserving of thanks.

Such individuals include:

  • His mom or your wife
  • His uncles and aunts
  • His grandparents on both sides of the family
  • His siblings, friends, and neighbors….
  • The list goes on, and on, and on.

This is an example of that:

Let me take a moment to thank some people who have been a blessing in Mike’s life:

First, let me say a big thank you to Bill and Ruth – Mikes’ grandparents who taught him how to be a  real man.

They took him hunting when he was a little and taught him to read while I was on deployment at Vietnam and his mom was bedridden for close to 6 years.

Bill and Ruth, we are deeply indebted to them for everything they have done for their grandson. Can you please give them a hand clap? They truly deserve it.

Sorry…I almost forgot about making this suggestion. If you are doing a parents of the groom or a joint speech, you can congratulate each other and that will be so awesome.

In the eyes of the guests, you both will be seen as a lovely couple who always stand by each other’s side.  Most couples don’t do this. But if you give it a try, your delivery will become so unique.

The whole point here is to make sure you walk down memory lane and write down the names of personalities who have blessed your son’s life because

''Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ''---William Arthur Ward

How To Write The Body Of Your Speech

Now, let's examine... Ok, before we start, let's look at what you need to know before you put your storyline together.

The questions or guidelines below can serve as useful pointers for coming up with the content of your speech: so please provide answers to the following questions.

  • Are you looking forward to delivering a humorous father of the groom speech? For example, if you really want to make a funny speech, then you have to come up with hilarious anecdotes that will support the overall theme.

Did you notice how Mike related the story of what happened at the beach? That's how to go about things

  • If you don't want something funny, then you should decide if you want to go for a sentimental, storytelling, poetic, or combination of two or more styles?

  • What's the theme of your speech? Once I worked with a very nice man on his speech and his theme was the seasons of life. We started by writing about the milestones of his son's life right from when he was born until the day he got married. It seemed quite long but it was a very good speech. You can copy that by giving a brief story about each have of your son's life as it happened.

If you want to structure your presentation along these lines, then this guideline can help you come up with things like:

  • Day of birth--- Do you remember what happened and how you felt?

  • What was he like when he was a little boy---Put down his admirable traits like kindness, activeness, and smartness.

Every point you make sure should be elaborated on. For example, if you say your son is kind, you should support it with at least a story of a time he exhibited that aspect of his character.

· Talk about his teen years and support it with a story. For example, if you were

· Mention his exploits if you want…accomplishments in business, academics, sports, etc.

  • Then, talk about how you feel about his choice of spouse…

An example is:

Today, we’re the proudest parents ever and we feel so elated to see you getting married to this beautiful bride. That, to us, is a courageous and wise decision because being married to the one you really love is a very enriching experience.

That brings me to the question we often get asked the most…

How Long Should The Father Of The Groom Speech Be?

Now, let me ask you this: do you like a long or short speech? I see you are rooting for something short and I couldn’t agree with you more.

Ok, here’s my candid opinion based on our findings here at standing ovation speeches.

A short speech will suffice if you want to give a simple and sweet speech which is something I always recommend.

There's nothing wrong with delivering long speeches either. But ask yourself if you can hold the attention of the audience for a very long time. If you can't, then please stick to something you are comfortable with.

Your goal should be to get the wedding attendees to enjoy your speech. That is what I recommend if you still want to take the long ''road.''

Two options come to mind:

· You can do a medium speech

· You can split each of the events we looked at into multiple parts and use portions of it to do several speeches.

For example, if you can use parts of it for the rehearsal dinner speech night, wedding reception, or even the engagement party on condition that you will be speaking at different times.

Now, let’s see…

How To End Your Speech With A Bang

If you ever watched a movie that kept you glued to the end, you will most likely notice that every part of the movie hooked you in and if it has a strong finish, that's what will linger in your mind for the rest of your life.

Similarly, if you close your speech well, the wedding guests will never forget what you said at the tail end even if they can't recall other parts of it.

If you walk down the street and ask any father if they have any idea on how to end a wedding speech on a strong note, the answer on most minds will be toasting the bride and groom.

Although that is correct, it's by no means the only way of wrapping up on a memorable note. I often spend so much time writing the closing remarks since it's so vital to the success of any presentation and I am going to share with you some of the ideas I employ and how can end well without trying so hard.

Christian father of the groom wedding speech

  • First, you can share some practical advice that has helped in making your own marriage work.

Here’s an example:

Bill and Ruth, let me congratulate you both on the occasion of your marriage. Having been married for forty-five (45) years, I have come to the conclusion that forgiving and giving from the heart is the best therapy for a long-lasting marriage.

  • Do you love poems? If you do, then you can use it. Thanks to the power of the internet, anyone can be a poet so to speak. You only need to find an example of love or marriage quotes from this website:

May All Good Things Be Yours

Your happiness begins
with your wonderful wedding day.
You'll share everything together;
Through it all, your love will stay.

Congratulations to you,
As you begin your happy life.
May all good things be yours,
New husband and new wife.

  • Are you a very religious or a born-again Christian? Then, there are so many bible verses that can spice it up. You may use this well-known bible verse: I Corinthians 13: 3-7(The Message Bible Edition)

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

  • Again, you can end with a funny line or a joke like this one:

Ladies and gentlemen, someone once said that in the first years of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen.

That quote can be slightly altered to produce this result:

Folks, it goes without saying that women generally like talking while men like doing stuff. That's so true, you know.

So my honest advice to Bill is to keep his mouth shut like a doll and always let Ruth do the talking in the third year and beyond.

You see, your wife will probably get angry and raise her voice to get your attention and you should make sure her concerns are met with empathy, love, and support so you can keep the peace at home.

Ok, I am Interested, What’s the Cost?

You simply pay what you want after you’ve got your beautiful speech.

Why? As you know, the current health crisis has caused severe hardships for most people.

Precious lives have been lost, jobs wiped out and families displaced, leaving everyone wondering what the future holds.

Yet, some sons are still getting married and asking their fathers to give speeches.

Nonetheless, not every father could afford our services even before the pandemic suddenly hit us.

So, we have dropped our normal rates so you can simply pay what you want after you have got your beautiful speech.

Please note: When life gets back to normal, this offer will be scrapped for good.

So, please take advantage of it now even if your son’s big day is in the future.

Even though we are going through this crazy time, if you do a poor job at it, your speech will be captured on video and your son and daughter-in-law and other viewers will forever remember what you said and would not attribute your poor performance to the fact there was a deadly disease in town.

So, please take advantage of it now even if your son’s big day is in the future by simply paying what you want after you get your beautiful speech.
