21ST Birthday Speech or Letter from Mom to Son or Daughter

How Loving Moms Easily And Quickly Write Inspiring And Memorable 21st Birthday Speeches or Letters For Their Sons Or Daughters-and how you can do the same even if you're not good with words

Once upon a time, a wonderful young woman had a dream. Like most women, she dreamed of getting married to one of the finest men on earth and it was a dream come when he tied the knot with Dan.

But the couple had a problem afterward. They found it very difficult to conceive and they went from one hospital to the other but nothing seemed to work.

21st birthday speech from mom best

Sherry loved children and she had no trace of infertility in her family line and wondered why she couldn’t bore a child of her own.

After 10 years of marriage, she found herself pregnant for a month only to miscarry. But her deep faith in God kept her hopes alive.

5 years after that incident, her bump began to protrude and this time, God favored her with a baby girl, a miracle she had been expecting for such a very long time.

Margaret’s birth rekindled the love Dan and Sherry had for each other and the whole family was so grateful for the life of the precious little daughter.

As Margaret grew older, her mom’s dream for her was two. To see her grow up into a pretty and very responsible daughter and get married to a very loving man.

Her 21st birthday came in a flash and her mom had to give a 21st birthday speech, something she had never done her whole life.

Her worst fear was speaking in public. But after looking for tips and ideas from friends, she gave this message on her daughter’s 21st birthday.

Margaret, I always believed in having a wonderful daughter like you, and I longed to hold and cuddle you in my arms.

But you never seemed to arrive when your dad and I were expecting you.

Well, they say where there is a will, there’s a way and we kept hoping and praying that someday we would hold you and plant a warm kiss on your cheeks.

We did everything we could but it seems God had another plan for us.

When the time was right, God opened the doors and we saw you at last.

It feels like only yesterday, I went to the delivery room and our entire family was around.

It felt like a family reunion and in less than 30 minutes, you showed up and even though my energy was all gone, I could hear faintly the entire family gasp in the excitement that our girl is here at last.

You looked fresh as a daisy and you are still so beautiful.

You meant so much to me and I wanted everything to be perfect.

I still remember feeding before you dozed off and your baby cries woke me up in the deep of the night to look after you like a guardian angel.

You were an easy baby and I vowed to make sure you grow feeling truly loved no matter what life threw at us.

Birthday sample 1

Growing up, you were a ball of energy and you kept me on my toes.

I have lost count of the many times I run after you and you scared the daylights out of me when you got lost on April Fools.

You apparently had gone into hiding in the wardrobe and I looked all around frantically for you.

Something told me to open it and when I did, you were…oh my gosh... soundly asleep like a log.

Though parenting you wasn’t easy as I thought it would, it was very fulfilling because you gave me so many reasons to be proud of you every step of the way.

I could never count my many wishes for you

Now, here you are ready to take on the world and I am confident you will weather the storms of life because your dad and I have shown you by example what it really means to make a difference in your own world.

I want you to realize that life will not always fair. When you are at the end of your rope and feel you have nowhere to turn, please remember what I have tried so hard to teach you, God is always there.

You will forever be our bright morning star but from this moment on, you have to be the salt and light of your world.

To the world, you may be seen as an adult but to me, you will always be my baby, my first love, my heart, my only child. We love you so much!

Can you write a short and sweet 21st birthday speech for your son or daughter like that one?

I bet you can.

Don’t worry if you can because I am going to share with you, ideas, tips plus examples to help you write a very effective birthday speech.

21st birthday from mom to son or daughter

Get This Right And You’ll Make It

Before we get down to business, I want you to take note of this as it can impede your progress.

You see, it’s pretty normal to feel nervous when you are asked to address any audience.

It gets even more terrifying as if you had been spooked when you don’t even know what to say or you goofed big when you had to say a few words before an audience at some point in the past.

As you get set to say something at your son’s birthday celebrations, a little voice I refer to as the voice of defeat will remind you of your past failures and if you dwell on it, you’re going to feel humiliated.

It’s a special day for your son or daughter and the entire family you have to speak with poise, power, and flair because friends and family will be counting on you to make your child very proud.

What that means is that you have to motivate yourself by letting go of the past and envisioning yourself speaking confidently before the guests.

It doesn’t matter if you hate public speaking or not good at writing speeches, a healthy mental attitude can make all the difference.

Remember, most moms who felt so inadequate have excelled at this and I wonder why you can’t too…

Believe it or not, you too have what it takes to make a difference!

How To Get The Right Words With Ease

Now, let’s consider how to get the right words and how to use those words to craft a story that’s heartfelt, funny, and very inspiring.

To get the best words, you have to first put yourself in the mood.

What does that mean exactly? I’m glad you asked.

As a speechwriter, I frequently do this when I have what seems like a tough task to handle.

I go to youtube.com, my favorite video sharing platform, and pop into the search box my keywords.

So, in this case, your keyword and its variants will be the 21st birthday speech for your daughter if you’re paying tribute to your lovely girl.

If it’s for your son, then you should use 21st birthday speech for your son…

Then, wait for a few seconds for videos to pop up and watch a couple of those clips for inspiration.

As you do, grab your pen and paper and put down ideas which you feel you can use for your own speech.

To give you an idea, please press the play button and watch this video.

As you do, please look out for ideas you can incorporate into yours.

Do You Have This Master Key?

By the way, did you know this is the fastest and easiest way to write something great without spending too much time and effort?

It’s been proven time and again that birthday speech samples are the most effective tool for making your writing better.

What’s more, you can get rich ideas from well-written ones and the good thing is you can just change a few things here and there to suit your style.

I love to teach by examples, so let’s use what Sherry said at the onset of this post to help you get an idea of how to use birthday speech samples.

We are going to take parts of it, so let’s first go for her introduction.

Here’s a quick recap of her opening lines.

Margaret, I always believed in having a wonderful daughter like you and I longed to hold and cuddle you in my arms.

Can you write something close to that or even better? You sure can!

By the way, let me tell you why the opening lines of any speech is so crucial and how to write the best ever opener.

If well-executed, it can be a stress-buster and also grab the attention of the audience from the get-go.

However, most moms don’t get right. What we just saw is great, but it could have been better…How?

The speaker should have greeted the audience and introduce herself.

For example, she could have said:

Hello everyone and thanks for coming…It’s a pleasure and honor to have you all here on the occasion of Dan’s 21st. I am Margaret, Dan’s happy mom.

Well, there are other great ways the speaker could have engaged the audience?

I am happy to share one or two ways of stimulating your creative thinking.

First, the speaker could have started with a quote instead.

Can you show me an example? Sure!

This is how I would have jazzed things up if I had to give that message.

Here you go:

The greatest moment in every mom’s life is when your child is born…

Did you see how I started?

You can use any of the following quotes to help you do likewise

Quote #1: There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why. William Barclay

Birthday sample 2

Quote #2: The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance. Brian Tracy

Quote #3: The great thing about getting older is that you don't lose all the other ages you've been. Madeleine L'Engle

Quote #4: Every year on your birthday, you get a chance to start new. Sammy Hagar

Quote #5: You don't get older, you get better. Shirley Bassey

Quote #6: The way I see it, you should live everyday like its your birthday. Paris Hilton

Second, you can begin with a few lines from a birthday poem by like this one by Christian Rosetti (1830-1894)

My heart is like a singing bird

Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;

My heart is like an apple-tree

Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit;

My heart is like a rainbow shell

Because the birthday of my life

Is come, my love is come to me.

I hope you can make the most of that. What I wrote should inspire you to use this stanza.

The show is not over yet…so let’s look at other excerpts.

But you never seemed to arrive when your dad and I were expecting you. Well, they say where there is a will, there’s a way and we kept…

We did everything we could but it seems God had another plan for you…

Birthdays for daughter or mom-2652012_960_720

Make Sure It’s In This Order

The body follows the introduction and the ideas should follow in chronological order.

To come up with good ideas for your draft, you should create an outline of your speech.

Here are pointers to help you do that.

Provide answers to these simple questions

  1. How did you feel before your son or daughter was born?
  2. How did you feel on the day your child was born?
  3. What were the early years like?
  4. How did you feel when she was growing up and what was your dream for him or her?
  5. What fond memories do you have of your son or daughter?
  6. What is your dream for the next chapter of your child’s life?
  7. What are your best wishes for your son or daughter?

If you go back to that example, you will notice that Sherry’s delivery is built on the questions above.

So, this is what I want you to do now.

Go grab your pen and notepad and answer those questions in that order.

Then, create a rough draft based on your responses.

Finally, let’s review Sherry’s conclusion briefly.

You will…light of your world.

To the world you may be seen as an adult but to me you will always be my baby, my first love, my heart, my only child. We love you so much!

Your concluding remarks are equally as important as your introduction because last impressions stick the most when it comes to delivering speeches.

Birthday sample 4

To end with a bang or make your last lines stand out, you can employ some of the tools I recommended for your opener.

Do you remember what they are? Poem, quotes and those stuff.

But I feel the best way to end your 21st birthday speech for your son or daughter is to wish your child well.

It’s always a delight when a mom ends with her story with a song but not all of us are blessed with good voices. If you can sing well, then please do so and your speech will be very memorable.

God bless you and your child and I am so proud of you for sacrificing so much for your son or daughter.

PS This time-sensitive message is for only moms who are hell-bent on giving the best speech ever! Don't read if you want an ordinary speech.

Do You Know This Simple And Very Easy-To-Follow Plan Can Help You Come Up With The Best Birthday Speech Ever? That's What Most Moms And Dads Use But You Probably Haven't Thought About It!

Dear Loving Mom,

Let’s face it. You can buy your son or daughter the best gift ever on his or her birthday and your son or daughter will be so happy with it.

But, here’s the thing.  The precious gift you give your son or daughter will fade sooner rather than later.

But your words will forever live in your child’s heart and make him or her a much better person down the road.

What that means that the right words are the best gift you can give your child, especially on this significant milestone of his or her life.

Unfortunately, most moms are not so good with words and it gets a bit terrifying when you imagine what to say before your own friends, friends of your child, and even your own family.

The young ones in the crowd will be judging you. And so, you shouldn’t embarrass your child in any way.

By the way, we know how hard coming up with the right words can be. So, we are giving you a  chance to come up with something inspiring, funny and memorable without pulling your hair out!

Just imagine how you would feel when your son or daughter or even family comes up to congratulate you after you have given a great birthday speech!

21st Birthday Speech or Letter Samples From Mom To Son Or Daughter

Just Follow This Excellent 21st Mom Speech Example and You’ll Be Seconds Away From Easily Writing a Unique, Touching, and Inspiring Speech for Your Son or Daughter

The last time, I shared with you how to get the right words and use them to write a 21st birthday speech for your son or daughter.

Birthdays for daughter or mom-2652012_960_720

In that post, I briefly shared with you a short example of a great speech but we didn’t delve deep into how you can use it to transform your message for good.

I know how hard it is for most moms to put together their exact thoughts and emotions into very beautiful words, so let’s quickly get down to business as I show you an entire 21st speech sample, and how you use that to effortlessly piece your idea together so you can come up with a speech that will get you tons of compliments…

First, this is the whole thing. Study it carefully and see which ideas you think you can incorporate into yours.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation to Diana Lee for this beautiful piece.

I was 29 when Tessa Rose Lee came into the world on Wednesday, 24th of March, 1993 at 2.07 am. She weighed 6 lbs 10 oz, which is about 3 and a half kilograms. She was 13 days late, and I was in labour from the Monday evening, and had her by Caesarian section on the Wednesday morning, because she really didn’t want to come out.

Some things haven’t changed—she still likes a sleep-in (she’s only a morning person twice a year—Christmas and her birthday) but interestingly, she hates being late!

If she got nothing else from me, she did get my intolerance to tardiness! Sorry, Daniel!

When I started writing this speech, Tessa made me promise not to embarrass her. That’s a pretty easy promise to keep, because she’s been a fairly problem free child, even as a teenager.

I do have a couple of funny stories though, and I hope she doesn’t mind me telling you. She did want to make sure that Bella (our beloved kitty cat) got a mention, so I’ll tell that story first.

Bella is a rescue cat—she came to us via the RSPCA as a six month old kitten—about six years ago. Tessa would have been about 15.

Bella is a black cat, and when I told Tessa that we were getting a black kitty, she had a minor freak-out. “But I don’t like black cats,” she said. “They are scary and evil.” Apparently, she formed this opinion at four years of age because one scared her through the window of the unit we used to live in it at Firle.

Birthday sample 1

So I did what I always do when Tessa has a minor freak out—I ignored her. Needless to say, Bella is a much loved member of our family, and Tessa is fully aware of the pecking order in our house: Bella, me then Tessa. Tessa loves it when I go overseas and she’s the one that has to empty Bella’s tray! Not.

As most of you know, I raised Tessa as a solo parent—I made that decision when I was about three months pregnant with her. “Thanks for the child,” I said to her father, “but this isn’t going to work out.” I was keeping with the general theme of my family demographics with that decision.

My immediate family is very matriarchal. Lots of girls and women—not many men—and understandably,

Tessa really didn’t have the words to describe the male of the species. So she made them up. I remember picking her up from University child care when she was about three, hopping on the bus with her, and she pointed at a teenage boy and said “Look Mummy… there’s a Jessie”. Unbeknownst to me, she had started calling all teenage boys Jessie, after Jessie Spencer on Neighbours!

I also discovered that she called old men “Nannymen” because she associated old with “nanny”, which is her name for my mother. She is still rather creative with language if you follow some of our exchanges on Facebook. When she was in high school she used to say, quite outraged: “Don’t comment me, Mum!” Of course, I always reminded her that I was on Facebook first. Must have sucked to have a tech savvy mum around as a teenager!

Speaking of social media and funny exchanges, I have been going back over some of my old blogs and found quite a few instances where I wrote down the quirky things she said.

There’s this one when she was about 13:

Teenie has decided that she would like to be referred to as Lydia in these blogs from now on.

Peering over my shoulder while I was writing yesterday, she asked: “Who is Teenie?”

“You,” I said.

“That’s not my name! Why are you calling me Teenie?”

“Because you don’t put your real name on these things,” I replied. “I’m protecting your identity.”

“Well, I don’t like it! What sort of stupid name is that?”

“I’m quite happy for you to pick some other name.”

“OK. I will,” she said. “I’ll get back to you on that.”

This morning, she announced that Lydia was her preferred pseudonym. And in the interests of family peace, who am I to argue?

In that blog, she was henceforth known as Lydia. I was surprised she didn’t pick Rosita, which is what she wanted to change her name to when she was two or three.

For non-Sesame Street viewers, Rosita was a muppet that she really, really, really liked.

Here’s another entry before she became Lydia:

I went to see “Good Night and Good Luck” last night, and was so inspired by the courage of Ed Murrow (I had never heard of him before the movie) and his team. When I got home, Teenie asked me what the movie was about.

“Rebels,” I answered.

“You would have liked that,” she replied.

She knows me too well! And there was this post when she graduated from primary school. She would have been 12:

Pre-Teen had her primary school graduation (yes, primary school graduation!) a couple of weeks ago.

I must admit I did get a bit emotional, and I told her she was growing up so fast, and couldn’t believe she was going to be in high school.

“When did that happen?” I asked.

“It started in 1993, mum,” was the rather witty reply.

Tessa has four names for me: Mum, Mother, Mummy and Mumma—depending on what she wants. I have five for her: Tessa, Tessie, Tessie Rosebud, Tessie Bear and Daughter, depending on how annoyed I am with her.

I have never called her Tess, although her friends do. She nearly ended up being a Harmony or an Ebony, until I saw a movie just a few weeks before she was born, where one of the young characters was called Tessa.

I fell in love with the name—I thought it would be an excellent name for a baby AND an old lady—and at the time, there weren’t too many Tessas around. Luckily, it suited her. In primary school—she would have been in Year 2—she made me a Christmas Card that said “Merry Christmas, Mummy, from your daughter, Tessa P.” Unfortunately, someone else had the same idea as me during that era and named THEIR child Tessa.

Actually there were three Tessas in her year group! So until I changed our surname to Lee—when she was 8—she was Tessa P. Then she was Tessa L. on future Christmas Cards, not Tessa Lee. Go figure!

Tessa started working at 13 after declaring that she couldn’t survive on the pocket money that I paid her (I think it was about $5 a week AND she had to work for it). Her first job was Dominos, then Red Rooster, then Foodland, where she stayed for four or five years—apart from a very brief stint as a hairdressing apprentice—until she started working at DPTI, where she has been for the last couple of years.

She has wonderful qualities of being reliable, punctual, witty and she tends to stick at things, including people.

A lot of you have known Tessa since she was a baby, or from when she was quite young. A lot of you are from her primary or high school years, or years where she worked at Foodland and I see her DPTI work colleagues here.

Daniel and his family have been in Tessa’s life since she was 16, and look like they are here to stay, which makes me very happy.

The point is, the people who come into Tessa’s life tend to stay because she is loyal, she loves her peeps and they love her.

To sum up, this is Tessa’s night, but it’s also sorta kinda mine.

I’ve done a lot of awesome stuff that I’m really proud of, but Tessa is by far my greatest achievement, to quote you, Creins.

Everything good that has happened in my life has happened because I had Tessa, because I had to make decisions that forced me to think about what was best for her. And generally speaking, what was good for her turned out to be good for me.

Tessa, you truly are beautiful, inside AND out. I love you high as the sky, around the moon and back again.

I’m couldn’t be prouder of the woman you have become. And I couldn’t have wished for a more wonderful daughter.

I hope you got so many ideas reading it. Well, let’s break it down one step at a time!

First, here’s a short summary of her introduction.

I was 29 when Tessa Rose Lee came into the world on Wednesday, 24th of March, 1993 at 2.07 am. She weighed 6 lbs 10 oz, which is about 3 and a half kilograms. She was 13 days late, and I was in labour from the Monday evening, and had her by Caesarian section on the Wednesday morning,

because she really didn’t want to come out. Some things haven’t changed—she still likes a sleep-in (she’s only a morning person twice a year—Christmas and her birthday) but interestingly, she hates being late!

As that write up taught us, the introduction is the most vital part of your speech and you shouldn’t leave it to chance because they can grab the attention of the audience from the get go.

You can model yours after that. Better still, you can give it a creative spin. Wondering how to do that?

Well, here are some tried and tested ways to make yours stand out.

You can start off by sharing a true story or a fictional account that has a resemblance to your son’s or daughter’s life.

As you read above, the writer gave a vivid account of how her daughter arrived. Similarly, you can share the circumstances leading to your child’s birth.I once wrote a speech for a certain man who wanted to include the fact his child popped out on the same day he returned home after being away for a few weeks.

Second, you can start with a poem about the event and take it from there.

Third, you can begin with some quotes about a mom’s love for son or daughter.

Let’s look at a few quotes and then I will show you how to use it to write a short example.

Quote#1: The best thing a mom can do for his children is to love them----Jean Dan

Quote#2: “Having children just puts the whole world into perspective. Everything else just disappears.” —Kate Winslet

Quote#3: “A mother’s happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.” —Honore de Balzac

Quote#4: Behind every successful man is a loving mom---Jean Daniel

Quote#5: My mother is a walking miracle.- Leonardo DiCaprio

Ok…let me show how you can use Quote#1: The best thing a mom can do…to come up with something.

This is it….

Weeks after Margaret came into my life, I had a dream to love her unconditionally because the best gift my mom gave me was her whole heart and I knew for sure, if I love her through thick and thin, she would grow up….

Birthday sample 2

Did you notice how I substituted things for gifts? I didn’t lift the entire lines but I only used it to personalize my own speech.

If you can’t do that, you can just any of those quotes you really love but make sure you acknowledge your source.

Ok…let’s go back to see excerpts of the body of her and you will find out how to put yours together.

Here you go again:

Unbeknownst to me, she had started calling all teenage boys Jessie, after Jessie Spencer on Neighbours!...

I really love this piece and how she portrays how it feels like to be a single mom. Besides, I find portions of her story very hilarious too.

While most moms have an idea of what to write, they really struggle to put together their scattered thoughts and I only wish I could help as moms work so hard on a daily basis.

You don’t have to struggle to put your draft together.

You’ll only be embarrassing yourself if you copy verbatim this example as well as others you find elsewhere since in another person’s voice.

First, examine to see how the content of the body was written.

Next, find a style that resonates best with you. The above one is funny but there are several styles as well.

Ask yourself if you want to go for something funny, poetic, storytelling, sentimental, or a combination of two or more styles.

Having chosen your own unique style, create an outline for your speech before you write a rough draft.

By answering the following questions, you will be a step away from getting rich ideas for your speech.

So, this is what I want you to do now. Go grab your pen and paper and provide answers to them

  1. How did you feel when you were expecting your son or daughter?
  2. What happened on the day he or she arrived?
  3. What were the early days like? Were you a single mom, first-time mom or you had the support of family, friends, and your husband?
  4. How was his or her childhood like?
  5. How about his or her teenage years?
  6. Do you recall memories you made together like going on vacation, graduations, etc. and how you feel anytime those incidents flood your mind?
  7. Do you remember the funny memories as well?

List as many anecdotes you can remember and use those events to put something down.

It won’t look great at first. But never worry about that.

All you have to do is to clean it up till you’re completely satisfied with what you’ve got.

Above all, make sure your message flows chronologically else it will be so hard to follow.

Birthday-757097_960_720

Now, let’s look at parts of this loving mom’s conclusion.

So, let’s get to it :

Everything good that has happened in my life has happened because I had Tessa, because I had to make decisions that forced me to think about what was best for her. And generally speaking, what was good for her turned out to be good for me.

Tessa, you truly are beautiful, inside AND out. I love you high as the sky, around the moon and back again.

I’m couldn’t be prouder of the woman you have become. And I couldn’t have wished for a more wonderful daughter.

Birthday sample 4

Can you figure out what went into her concluding remarks?

Ok….here are a few ideas to stimulate your brain power….

1) She told you and I why she loves Tessa….my take on this? You have to do the same.

2) She told us why she’s so proud of her…. my take on this? You have to tell your audience why you are so proud of your son or daughter.

She didn’t express their best wishes or her hopes for the future…

Adding your dreams about the future will give your message a personal touch.

Hope my review of this beautiful 21st speech sample steers you in the right direction.

P.S Read this only if you really want to give a unique and memorable speech at your son's or daughter's birthday, please don't if you want to settle for anything.

21st Birthday Speech or Letter from Dad To Son Or Daughter

How Dads Easily And Quickly Write Unique And Memorable 21st Birthday Speech or Letters For Their Sons Or Daughters-and how you can do same even if your writing sucks

World renowned preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ, Reverend Billy Graham once said that the greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.

I think you agree with him wholeheartedly…don’t you?

The great man’s quote makes a lot of sense particularly as your daughter or son celebrates his 21st birthday.

This milestone demands that you give your child the best gift.

When I say this, most dads imagine giving their daughters and sons give that don’t last.

I am talking about giving your daughter or son a unique, beautiful and a very inspiring 21st birthday speech.

21st birthday speech from dad best

Have you thought about that? You see, our world, our dreams and the quality of our relationships and life depends entirely on words and the appropriate use of them can be a tremendous blessing on his or her 21st and beyond.

However, for most dads, writing speeches that tug at the heart is not an easy thing to do.

Well, I have some good news for you because I am going to show you how to get the right words and how to use them to express your exact thoughts and emotions more easily.

Take Note Of This Before You Pen Anything Down

Before we jump right in, let’s look at something that might prevent you from getting the result you have in mind.

Have you ever wondered why you probably felt nervous when you were asked to give a small talk before a group of people some time ago?

Your thoughts were responsible for that setback.

You see, anytime you are asked to speak in public, there is this small voice in your head that will remind you of all that happened in the past and what you do with that nudging voice will determine how things will go in the long run.

As a speechwriter, I always tell my clients that the secret to success doesn’t lie entirely in preparing a brilliant speech per se, but how you present it.

So, if that intimating thought hits you like a storm, just believe you can by constantly holding a mental picture of you speaking confidently and you will feel energized from within.

That said; let’s see how you can get the good words.

This Is The Secret of Coming Up With Great Ideas- Fast

First, put yourself in the mood for the clever expression of your thoughts and ideas.

To do that, you have to go grab your pen and note pad or whatever and go to over to your favorite video sharing platforms like youtube.com and the like.

Next, pop your keywords into the search box and wait for a few clips to pop up.

For example, you may use keywords like 21st birthday speech for daughter, 21st birthday speech for son…etc.

Watch a few of those clips after they pop up and put down ideas you feel you can use for your own speech.

By the way, here’s a great video that can stir up ideas.

This Is What I Call The Lazy Man’s Tip For Writing Dad’s Speech in Less Time

Another great tool I use all the time when writing speeches is consulting well-written speech samples.

Not only can you model your speech after them, but its contents are a treasure trove of rich ideas, words, and phrases.

By the way, here are excerpts of the speech I talked about above. You can see the full contents here.

P.S…This is from a dad to daughter but you can modify it a bit if you’re writing something about your son.

Here you go:

21 years ago today, you were born at 02h10 in the morning. I remember it so well, because I was fixated with those deep blue eyes scanning this new world when you made your entrance….Without you, I would have missed some of the great mysteries of life. You are an exceptional person; you are complete in yourself….

….To you, people look – at your beauty, your selfless spirit, your grace, the way you own your own being – awed at your light on earth.

In the eyes of the world this will make you legally an adult. You will have new choices to make, new paths to follow and dreams to catch in your net like butterflies passing on the wind…

As a father I understood the responsibility of having a child, a responsibility that keeps growing and maturing as the years pass by. I wanted to be the very best father that had ever been or ever will be.

From an early age you had an exploratory and inquisitive spirit. You were eager to know what the world was all about. Our heavenly Father allocated to you a bubbly personality and an outgoing style of engagement and connection with people. And to that spirit you have always been true.

I also want you to realize that life will not always be plain sailing. When you are at the end of your rope and feel you have nowhere to turn, please remember what I have tried so hard to teach you, God is always there.

You are never alone. It is my prayer now that you will continue on the path we have traveled together. Lean on God for everything. Seek his will. He will never leave you…

You have grown into a responsible, moral young woman who will someday be an awesome wife and mother…

The man who wins your heart will have the greatest treasure known to mankind. I hope you choose well…

We have often talked about this and I believe, as I think you do, God has been preparing the perfect man for you…

Thank you for being the example of everything a sister should be. You have raised the bar and set a clear example to your siblings…

Thank you for your love for your family. During the times when we had nothing, except each other, thank you for helping out….

Within your hands are special gifts and talents, a creativity you are destined to share with others….

… You are my greatest source of pride and my greatest hope for the future. And I will always love you….

May you find the path that leads you to the life you want. May you find the courage and the strength to create the world you want to live in….

Happy Birthday, my darling girl.

Birthday sample 4

Can you write something short and sweet like that?

Well, let’s take it by bit and analyze it so you can get the exact picture of how to use 21st birthday speech samples to effortlessly write the very sentiments of your heart.

First, let’s recap the introduction

21 years ago today, you were born at 02h10 in the morning. I remember it so well, because I was fixated with those deep blue eyes scanning this new world when you made your entrance….Without you…

A great opener by all standards but the speaker could have added a few things…Do you have any idea what they are?

I am sure some of the party guests might be wondering who the speaker is and I think this dad should have told us who he was.

Birthday-669967_960_720

He could have done it like this…

Hello everyone and thanks for coming…I am….dad and it gives me great joy to see family and friends and loved ones….

Did you notice how I did that?

Well, there are other interesting ways of saying your opening lines as it’s one of the most important pieces of your presentation.

To make yours unique, you can start with a story or even a quote.

To give you an idea, I am going to share with you how to make yours different with a story so the audience will compliment you for having done a marvelous job.

Here’s how to do that. You may use an imaginative tale or a real anecdote about your son or daughter.

Ok…Let’s get things underway.

This is so hard to believe but I still wonder why our birthdays fall on the month of December.

My wife and my three other children, Mark, Judith and Alex were born on December and before Mark arrived, the doctor told us to expect him in October.

But that didn’t happen even though that was Sandra’s due month.

As you can imagine, that made us quite apprehensive, so we went back to Dr. James Oz and he only told us after screening her thoroughly that everything was ok.

Believe it or not, on the morning of December 1, my wife’s water broke and……

That story got you hooked right?

You cannot underestimate the power of a very compelling and if you can recall a story that can fit into the overall theme, your speech will be so so nice.

We are not done yet…so, let’s once again look at the body of his speech.

From an early age you had an exploratory and inquisitive spirit. You were eager to know what the world was all about. Our heavenly Father allocated to you a bubbly personality and an outgoing style of engagement and connection with people. And to that spirit you have always been true.

The body typically follows your introductory remarks unless you want to go with something creative like rendering your speech in song (will talk about it later)

Coming up with good memories isn’t as hard as most people think but connecting the bits and pieces are.

Here’s How To Come Up With Beautiful Stories About Your Son Or Daughter

Let me show you how you can come up with good memories for your body.

The questions below can unlock the key to getting those ideas…so please go once again for your notepad or…and pen and get them answered.

  1. 1. How was your son or daughter like growing up?

  1. What were his or her hobbies or interests?

  1. Any funny memories of her growing up?

  1. What issues did you face and how did you stand by her through thick and thin?

  1. What do you envision his or her future to be?

This is what I want you to do now. Scroll up this page and read that example once more.

Once you’ve mastered it, you can use that as a guide to creating an outline for your speech.

Next, just create a rough draft for your presentation using the answers you wrote next to those questions asked.

Don’t worry about how it flows for the very first time because you can keep revising it till you’re happy with it.

Birthday speech 21st from dad the best ever

Can You End With A Bang?

Finally, let’s look at this loving dad’s closing lines below…

Here’s a summary anyway

You are my greatest source of pride and my greatest hope for the future. And I will always love you….

May you find the path that leads you to the life you want. May you find the courage and the strength to create the world you want to live in

Now, I assured you that I was going to talk about songs…hope you remember?

A perfect ending to a memorable delivery is singing your lines to the beat of a well-known song.

Let me ask you this question? What’s your favorite happy birthday song?

Birthday sample 2

Did you know how can adapt your best song into your message.

For example, if Steve Wonder’s is what you prefer, then you can borrow some of his lyrics for your ending by singing it out loud if you have a good voice.

Don’t worry if your voice is as croaky as mine. You can still end with one or more of these techniques.

If you’re a Christian, you may end with a prayer by using this favorite verse of mine:

Psalm 128

Psalm 128

A song of ascents.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
    within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
    around your table.
Yes, this will be the blessing
for the man who fears the Lord.

May the Lord bless you from Zion;
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
May you live to see your children’s children—
    peace be on Israel.

Alternatively, you can go for any of these well-wishes

  1. Wishing you all the best on your 21st…Hope you enjoy every second
  2. Congratulations on blissfully overcoming two decades of your life. Welcome to the next chapter of your life…Happy Birthday.
  3. Congratulations on your 21st birthday! For you only today is a special day but because you were part of our lives every day of these past years have been special for us. Remember, the celebrations will come to end but your birthday won’t end…Happy Birthday

Hope this helps you write something memorable for your daughter or son’s 21st birthday.

Father of the groom rehearsal dinner wedding speech or toast

How To Easily And Quickly Write A Beautiful Father Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech or Toast That Will Wow The Guests And Make Your Family Feel So Proud Of You

6

Every now and then, I get lots of emails and messages from dads of the grooms whose dreams are to write heart-touching and funny father of the groom rehearsal dinner speeches.

As good as their intentions are, most of them have these mental roadblocks that prevent them from reaching their dreams.

Guess what they are? Most of them can’t put together their exact thoughts and emotions into very beautiful words because they feel they have to be talented writers to come up with the best ever speech for their sons and daughter-in-law.

Well, I feel very privileged to have written for very seasoned writers and speakers and I can assure you that having a way with words doesn't necessarily guarantee that your speech will be a hit.

As you know, it’s not an easy walk in the park if you really want to make your precious son and even your entire family proud.

Here’s Why You Don’t Have to Worry

Wondering how to get the best words and ideas to help you craft some memorable lines without going through the usual stress and hassle?

But, you don’t have to worry because I have some good ideas to help you calm not only your nerves but also jot down the very sentiments of your heart.

Before we do, I want you to get this right if you have some worries about what to expect as your son’s big day draws near. This is what I do before I even grab my pen to write and it has worked for so many fathers too.

Father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech examples

This Really Breaks My Heart

Even though I have been writing speeches for a very long time, I sometimes get nervous when a dad writes to me and say:

''Dan, can you help me give a unique speech? The towners are going to be there…In fact, 400 guests and I am very sorry for bringing this up on a very short notice…Please I have never done this my whole life''

Seriously, messages like that get me thinking about how to make things happen because I feel everyone’s case is different and I really had to go above and beyond to make this happen.

Even though I am quite experienced, there’s always this little voice that tells me: ''Dan, you can’t do it!''

Why I am bringing this up? I am doing so because you also get this irritating that will remind you of your past failures like:

  • You flunked English and can’t make it.
  • You’re not good at this.
  • Do you remember how you goofed big time when you made your speech that year?

I could go on and on…

This is what I do and recommend you do too whenever you hear those nasty voices in your head.

Just ignore them even when they become persistent because you have what it takes to make all the difference this time around.

So, constantly envision yourself speaking with pose and flair and your confidence will soar.

Always remember that you can do whatever you have in mind despite your shortcomings if you simply believe you can. I don't personally know you but believe in you because every person on earth is endowed with special abilities.

Do This and You’ll Get the Good Words

That’s the first step. Now, let’s look at the next thing I do before I write father of the groom rehearsal dinner speeches.

It has got to do with finding the good words and ideas and phrases to express what's on your heart

First... Put yourself in the mood

How do you do that? By watching videos about the subject matter online or anywhere you can find well-written speeches.

By the way, here’s a brilliant piece I found to inspire you. You can hit the play button and soak it all in.

As you do, look at how the speaker presents his message and jot down ideas you feel you can incorporate into your own speech (you can skip if you’re in a hurry or want to get to the heart of the matter)

Here you go:

Besides that video, another great tool I use and I totally recommend which will make your task fairly easy are: father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech samples

Here’s a very short example just for you.

To write a rough outline of my speech using that example as my guide, I put down the three sections of my speech down on paper:

  • Introduction
  • Body
  • Conclusion

This is what I do next.

First, I decide to put down the opening lines of your speech and we saw in this piece how to write a dad of the groom's speech introduction that captures the heart.

This is The Master Key

Next, you have to get your ideas together for the main part of the speech or the body of your delivery.

You can then decide to write something brief or even follow what most dads prefer: letting their thoughts flow from childhood through adulthood or even concentrate on what makes your son unique.

Whatever your goals are, proven tools like wisecracks, jokes, poetry and even songs can help you put across your ideas effectively.

Suppose you want to flow chronologically, then you can first talk about how you felt when your son was born. To do that, you need some quotes to inspire you. Here are of course a few good ones you can use creatively:

Quote#1: '' Becoming a father increases your capacity for love and your level of patience. It opens up another door in a person - a door which you may not even have known was there. That's what I feel with my son. There's suddenly another level of love that expands. My son is my greatest joy, out of everything in my life''-Kyle MacLachlan

Quote#2: ''I love my son more than anything. I will do whatever it takes to make sure he is raised the right way.'' -Bristol Palin

Quote#3: ''The most important mark I will leave on this world is my son'' -Sarah Shahi

Quote#4: ''My son has been the best thing that has happened in my life. He has been amazing, and he is truly heaven-sent. And so, I just feel all that love.''- Ciara

Quote#5: ''Until you have a son of your own... you will never know the joy, the love beyond feeling that resonates in the heart of a father as he looks upon his son.''- Kent Nerburn

Speech by father on his son's rehearsal dinner

Let me ask you this simple question: If you were to write something about your son, which of those quotes would you use?

Well, I will go for quote #5: Until you have a son of your own... you will never know the joy, the love beyond feeling that resonates in the heart of a father as he looks upon his son.'' -  Kent Nerburn

This Is A Special Gift For You

Ok…I am writing this at the start of a New Year, so let me give you this New Year’s gift.

I am going to use that quote. Now, this is a short example based on that

''Mark, my son, has been a blessing to our entire family, and I never knew how much love and joy my heart could hold until I saw this cute frame on that beautiful day when he came into my life….''

Did you notice how I used this part: you will never know the joy, the love beyond feeling that resonates in the heart of a father as to personalize that message?

I guess by now you can do that. Don’t worry if you still can’t because we are going to cover a lot of examples to help you out.

If you want to talk about your son's childhood, then you have to put down how he was like during infancy.

Djdjdj

Personality traits like being happy, active, kind, loving….can be used to describe his infant years.

While there’s nothing wrong with using those adjectives, you can go a step further by using similes and metaphors instead of those clichés or worn-out phrases to paint pictures in the minds of the wedding guests.

Ok, let me illustrate.

Which of these two do you think will make the wedding guests super-excited?

  • Growing up, Mark was a very happy little boy.

  • As a little boy, Mark was like a microwave. He was easy to handle, very warm on the side, and his sunny smiles warmed the hearts of everyone he came into contact with.

Which of those descriptions do you think will wow the guests?

From the happy look in your eyes, I know for sure you opted for the latter and that’s what I have in mind too.

You see, anytime you use similes and metaphors, you’re kind of painting a colorful, mental picture in your listener's mind, so use them sparingly if you want to enrich your message.

Here are a few good ones you can use:

  1. Instead of being active, you can say ''He was a bundle of energy or He was like fireworks''

  1. Instead of bravery, you can say ''he had the heart of a lion cub''

  1. Instead of being happy or having an infectious personality, you can say ''He was like the first spring rain''

  1. Instead of saying he was bright; you can say ''his memory was like a tape recorder or something similar''

  1. Instead of saying he was fun to be with or loving, you can say ''he was so sweet like a rose…''

Please feel free to use any of those descriptions to help you put down your thoughts and emotions into a very short and sweet dad of the groom rehearsal dinner speech.

What Should I Include Here?

The body is basically your storyline. So, please decide on the anecdotes you want to share about your son as he grew older.

Speech for son and daughter-in-law on rehearsal night

That said; let’s look at how you can write other parts of the speech like your concluding remarks or toast.

I have seen from writing and reviewing speeches for dads that most of them take the closing remarks for granted but you shouldn’t.

Why?

Because it’s a perfect way of creating a memorable ending for the words you intend using for your son’s speech.

There are several ways you can do that and I am happy to share a few with you.

  1. Using love or marriage quotes to close your speech.

  1. Using love or marriage quotes from movies.

  1. If you have a good voice, you can sing it.

  1. By quoting from a love or marriage poem, you can end with power and impact.

As you may know, I love examples, so let me show you how this can be done using these movie quotes.

Movie quote a: ''Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime. Lead me, save me from my solitude. Say you want me with you, here beside you. Anywhere you go, let me go, too. Love me, that’s all I ask of you.'' – The Phantom Of The Opera

Movie quote b: ''The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That’s what I hope to give you forever.'' – The Notebook

Movie quote c: ''I promise I’ll come back for you. I promise I’ll never leave you.'' – The English Patient

Movie quote d: ''Your heart is free, have the courage to follow it.'' – Braveheart

Movie quote e: ''It doesn’t matter if the guy is perfect or the girl is perfect, as long as they are perfect for each other.'' – Good Will Hunting

Do you mind using any of those lines to end your toast on a good note?

If I were you, I would have used the movie quote a

''Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime. Lead me, save me from my solitude. Say you want me with you, here beside you. Anywhere you go, let me go, too. Love me, that’s all I ask of you.'' – The Phantom Of The Opera

Using that resulted in this:

'' Mark and Amanda, on this memorable day of your lives, I want to leave you with a piece of advice.

Sharing your life with the one you love is a beautiful blessing because when two hearts beat as one, there is nothing you can’t achieve.

Today, you made your vows in the presence of friends and loved ones and when Mark said, ''anywhere you go, I will go'' it brought back memories of what my dad said to me when I tied the knot 30 years ago.

Mark’s granddad said that love is best felt when you share with some who’s not like you. I didn’t understand what he said back then, so I called him on the phone the next day and he told me that it's best to live forever with someone you can't live without. ''

Rehearsal diiner toast by father

P.S: This is what most wise dads do before they even put a single word on paper...Have you ever considered this? Do this and your speech will be well-received by the guests even if your writing sucks or you feel you're not cut out for public speaking.

Let's help you make your son, wife, and family proud and let the wedding guests say great things about your speech.

Here’s what one nervous and skeptical dad called Glen sent over after the wedding was over

Hey Dan, I just wanted to thank you once again for the speech you wrote with me. My goal was met afterward, I was told by many "what a beautiful speech" and received a standing ovation. I couldn't have done this without you. God Bless Dan!- Glen, U.S.A

Want to know how he did just that? He got on board our wedding speech program and one of our talented speech consultants helped him out.

Want to get on board? You should!

OK, Is This Offer For Me?

  • Yes, if you are expecting nothing less than a very special, beautiful, unique and memorable speech.

  • Yes, if you are overwhelmed by the pressures of work and don’t have the time to put together a very meaningful speech, so you can have your peace of mind

  • Yes, if you want your family, children, friends, and wedding guests to shower you with very sincere compliments…just imagine how you will feel

  • Yes, if you are not good with words and you feel you’re not a natural writer and you are struggling to find the right words but still want to give a great speech.

  • Yes, you get so scared anytime you’re asked to say something before an audience and you really want to save yourself from any form of embarrassment on your son’s big day.

  • Yes, if you absolutely hate speaking in public or feel this is not your thing but you want to make your son feel very proud

  • Yes, if you have a day or less to the wedding and you are worried that you might make some horrible mistakes

Father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech or toast samples

Worried about writing a beautiful wedding speech for your son at his rehearsal dinner?

Just look over this sample and you’ll be a step away from giving a very unique and memorable father of the groom speech even if you suck at public speaking or you really don’t know how to put down your exact thoughts and emotions into very beautiful words.

Four

John was so proud of his four children when they made it through college successfully and got the best jobs out there.

His first two children had tied the knot but not Andy, his last child.

He longed to see him married as he was growing older. To their pleasant surprise, Andy popped the question and not long afterward, they began to make preparations to tie the knot.

Andy knew his dad was an accomplished public speaker and he was cocksure delivering a memorable father of the groom's speech will not be a big deal for him.

From his numerous speaking engagements overseas to, speaking in local churches, John was expected to pull off something great but it turned out that saying something at the rehearsal dinner night was a tough assignment for him.

Rehearsal dinner toast for son and daughter-in-law

He actually spent so much time thinking about how to write this dad of the groom speech and he eventually came up with this short father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech prior to that memorable night:

A Short Example

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is John and I am the dad of the groom.

My wife Andrea and I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come from all over to celebrate with Andy and Amanda.

It’s such a heartfelt blessing to see John grow up from that handsome boy into an absolutely wonderful man that we see before us today. The moment he came into our lives, we just couldn’t imagine living a happy life without him being a part of it.

I remember cradling him in my protective arms and all I could only imagine was his future so bright.

As a little kid, he was very talented and curious. I still remember how we took on projects together like assembling a piece of furniture that had a thousand different bolts, screws, and nuts.

As you may know, assembling a piece of furniture requires careful reading and application of the entire instructions.

But John would simply ignore the instructions and intuitively fit all the pieces together!

From an early age, he knew what he wanted in life. I remember when we dropped him off on his first day of kindergarten; we were so concerned about him and we almost broke down in tears, but you could tell by the excitement in his eyes that he was so ready to go to school!

His sense of independence continued well into college.

I still recall how we drove halfway across the country to bring Andy to his first year of college.

We weren’t even there more a couple of hours that he met his best friend, Dan, who happens to be his best man.

Growing up, Andy was a good student and a good athlete.

He started to play baseball when he was a little boy and I was lucky to be the team’s coach all the way till he got into high school where he won the coaches' award in baseball.

His competitiveness instilled in him a sense of purpose and good teamwork and I am confident it will help him a lot as he starts life with Amanda.

Ladies and gentlemen, no matter what kind of challenges we go through in our lives, we all have something deep within us that can be a blessing to others.

Through the ups and downs and in between, Andy has been a tremendous source of blessing and inspiration to our family, friends, and even others.

Andy's a naturally kind person and always goes out of his way to helping me, his mom, and his sister Michaela.

Andy, as parents, we have loved you and stood by you all these years as we strongly believed you that you deserve nothing but true love.

But we have always had it in mind someday you will have to spend the rest of your life with the person you cannot live without.

The more we got to know Amanda, the more we felt she was the one. Amanda, it’s very evident that you truly love and care for John.

You’re beautiful, loving, caring and we are confident that you will love our son till the end of time. We love you and on behalf of my family, I’d like to welcome you into our family with open arms.

Andy and Amanda, we look forward to watching you both build your lives together in love and harmony. So, always put each other first so your love wins in the end. God bless you both.

Do you want to know how John put that brief piece together?

He used the tips I am going to share with you to come up with that brilliant piece.

Before we start, let's look briefly at how calm your nerves since the overwhelming majority of fathers struggle with that prior to saying some words about their son and daughter-in-law at the rehearsal dinner.

Don't Worry About This At All

If you are having butterflies in your tummy, then you have to put behind you whatever experiences or background you have regarding speaking
in public, and just believe that you can.

You can because you’re are a unique creation of  God endowed with the speech abilities, and you can do whatever you think right because he created you in his image. You don't have to squander your mental energy worrying about what to say or what your family will say about your speech.

Your mind will surely relay pictures of your past speaking failures. But you can take  complete control of the situation by visualizing your success on your son’s
big day, and you will make it.

Having said that, let's look at how to get the right words and ideas for a speech like what we saw or whatever you have on your mind. To do that, you first have to put yourself in the mood for the clever expression of your thoughts.

Father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech videos can be a huge help especially if you are tongue-tied.  Additionally, such visual examples have several proven examples and templates you can use for inspiration.

So, this is what I recommend you do right now.  Go to youtube.com or your favorite platform and insert keywords like the father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech toast, the best father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech toast, parents of the groom rehearsal dinner speeches, funny father of the groom rehearsal speech dinner speech toast, etc.

Once, a couple of videos pop out, watch a few clips, and then write down tips and ideas you wish to add to your own speech. By the way, here are two videos I think you can watch to get a fair idea of what to say. Please enjoy and learn.

Example #1

Example #2

Did you enjoy both presentations? And did pick up a few ideas from each clip?

Ok, now let's see how you can write a unique rehearsal dinner speech for your son and daughter-in-law.

How To Write Your Father Of The Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Toast

Imagine how you will feel, how your son will feel, how your wife and family will feel if you can write something similar or better than the example we saw earlier.

It doesn’t matter if you haven't got good writing skills to come up with one because I am going to break down John’s father of the groom rehearsal dinner speech and explain what went into it so you can write the best ever rehearsal wedding dinner speech for your son

This Is The Most Vital Part of Your Speech

First, let’s consider John's introductory lines:

''For those of you who don’t know me, my name is John and I am the dad of the groom.

My wife Andrea and I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come from all over to celebrate with Andy and Amanda.''

Comments/ writing ideas:

As you know, the opening line of any speech is fairly easy to write. However, most dads like John fail to add some crucial information here. Can you guess what he left out?

Ok, he forgot to add the following ideas

  • Greetings and short-self introduction
  • Expressing appreciation to persons who were key in his son’s upbringing

As you write your opening remarks, you have to write down the names of people you would like to express appreciation for molding your son into who he is today.  Can you do a little brainstorming and put down the names of individuals you wish to mention?

The short extract below buttresses the bullet points above

'' Good evening and welcome everyone.

If you really care about someone, the best gift you can give them is your time. You all have come from far and near to grace this beautiful occasion and we are highly indebted to a few individuals who helped raise our son. First, let me thank my wife and his mom for...''

Did you notice how I wrote that?

That’s not all; you can say a special thank you to the bride’s parents and your own family members like your dad and mom, brothers and sisters, wife, etc. and mention briefly how they contributed to your son’s success.

An example would be:

A big thank you goes to Coach Mel and Coach Foley and Coach Sara (His swimming and diving high school coaches) for teaching him the value of hard work and dedication.

Rehearsal diiner toast by father

The Wedding Guests Expect This From You So…

Now, you’ve seen your son through all the phases of his life - as a sweet baby, a playful toddler, a mischievous middle schooler, a rebellious teenager, a dedicated graduate, a hardworking employee, and now, a responsible adult with dreams of having his own children one day.

You’ve celebrated his triumphs, stood by him during the challenging times, you’ve been his voice of reason, his Friday football buddy and also, the first person he’s called whenever he’s needed anything. So naturally, you occupy an important part of his special day’s proceedings.

What that means is that the body of your speech will serve as yet another thoughtful reminder of your relationship with your son.

So, without further ado, let's see how to write the body of your toast. Once again, let's re-look at excerpts of it to guide us each step of the way.

''It’s such a heartfelt blessing to see John grow up from that handsome boy into an absolutely wonderful man that we see before us today.

The moment he came into our lives, we just couldn’t imagine living a happy life without him being a part of it.

I remember cradling him in my protective arms and all I could only imagine was his future so bright.''

Comments/your writing ideas:

The body follows the introduction and it’s usually in three parts.

The first section of the body has the following themes running through every dad of the groom speech:

  • How did you feel when you were expecting him?
  • How did you feel when your son was born?
  • What were the early years like---you can briefly highlight what you went through if you were new parents

The second part of the body has the following themes running through the storyline:

  • What was your son like when he was a little kid?
  • What was he fond of?
  • What are memories of him growing up

As you can see, answers to those questions formed the backbone of this section of John’s speech

Comments/ your writing ideas: This is what I want you to do now:

Scroll up this page and put down on paper answers to those questions above and put down all your thoughts together in chronological order using that example as a guide.

What should the father of the groom say at rehearsal dinner

The third part of the body comprises of these key ideas:

  • Memories of your boy when he was growing up
  • His accomplishments or achievements in school
  • How proud you were of him when he was becoming a young man
  • Memories of adventures or trips you both embarked on

John makes good use of the points above to write this part of his rehearsal dinner speech:

His sense of independence continued well into college.

I still recall how we drove halfway across the country to bring Andy to his first year of college.

We weren’t even there more a couple of hours that he met his best friend, Dan, who happens to be his best man.

Growing up, Andy was a good student and a good athlete.

He started to play baseball and from when he was a little boy and I was lucky to be the team's coach all the way till he got into high school where he won the coaches award in baseball.

TWO

His competitiveness instilled in him a sense of purpose and good teamwork and I am confident it will help him a lot as he starts life with Amanda.

Comments/ your writing ideas:

Using those paragraphs and the ideas that precede it, please jot down everything you can remember about when your precious son was growing up.

Put as many of them that come to you because you never know which one can make your message very sweet. Just make sure you get a theme or themes for your speech and back it up with the right anecdotes.

For example, you can build your story around the themes of adventure and love. If you choose to do that, then, you have to support any attribute you pinpoint with a suitable story that brings it alive. Without such memories, there will nothing in there the wedding guests can relate to.

Well, we have a few minutes to go, so please bear with me a little longer.

Here’s How To End On A High Note!

By the way, here’s the final part of the body.

Ladies and gentlemen, no matter what kind of challenges we go through in our lives, we all have something deep within us that we can reach down and be a blessing to others.

Through the ups and downs and in between, Andy has been a tremendous source of blessing and inspiration to the family and others.

Andy’s a naturally kind person and always goes out of his way to help me, his mom and sister Michaela.

Andy, as parents, we have loved you and stood by you all these years as we strongly believed you that you deserve nothing but true love.

But we have always had it in mind someday you will have to spend the rest of your life with the person you cannot live without.

The more we got to know Amanda, the more we felt she was that special one.

Comments/your writing ideas:

Now, let me ask you this…Can you tell me what you got from reading that sample?

Ok…no worries if you can't figure it out. The speaker talked about

  • How proud he was of his son
  • Then, the speaker mentions his beautiful qualities
  • Your impressions of her when you first met her
  • How she impressed you as the years went by

One last thing... Don’t forget to welcome your daughter-in-law into your family

Before we go, I want you to get this. Make sure you end your speech well because last impressions count as well as the opening remarks.

From our example, John gave this piece of advice:

''Andy and Amanda, we look forward to watching you both build your lives together in love and harmony.

So, always put each other first so your love wins in the end. God bless you both.''

Comments/ your writing ideas:

Now, I want you to end with a bang and you can employ any of these strategies.

  1. First, you might want to conclude with some best wishes
  • Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness."

  • "Your wedding day will come and go, but may your love forever grow."

  • "Best wishes on this wonderful journey, as you build your new lives together."

  • "May the years ahead be filled with lasting joy.

  • Warmest wishes on your big day and as you start a new chapter of life and love together. May God grant you wisdom, blessings, and happiness!”

  1. Second, you might want to end with a favorite quote

Below are some examples of love or marriage quotes you can use

  • True love is rare, and it‟s the only thing that gives life real meaning-Antoine de Saint Exupery

  • The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now-Unknown

  • Marriage is the happiest prison in the world-Unknown

  • Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead-Oscar Wilde

Can you use any of that to come up with a piece of simple advice for the couple? I am sure you can. So go on and give it a try.

If you are a Christian or a religious person, you may use this bible verse or one you have in mind to end your speech. Ephesians 5: 22-27(New International Version)

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word,

27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

From that verse, we can get the short example below

Mike, scripture admonishes all men to love their wives unconditionally just as Christ died and gave himself up for the church. So, in everything you do, love and cherish Amanda and love her and you will be a very happy man.

  1. Third, you might want to share your own experiences about marriage

Here are a couple of examples

  • Marriage, as with all good things, requires patience, forgiveness, teamwork, and determination. It’s my hope and prayer that you both use each day to love each other unconditionally and grow together and to truly express your love. May your marriage be blessed with an abundance of love and prosperity. Congratulations on your marriage.

  • A man who has been married for half a century said this to me before I got married to your mom: ‘’ Dan…take life one day at a time. Marriage is one step, one day at a time. Most importantly, it is worth the effort you put into it.

  • So, as you build your lives together, make every day count as though you have met each other for the first time and you will make it through life no matter the difficulties you will face.

  • The road called marriage will be full of twists and turns, roadblocks…etc, but you can still press on by turning towards each other instead of away from each during times of difficulties and you will enjoy life together.

  1. Fourth, if you still can’t fight the words for your conclusion, then you can simply make a toast. Once again, you can use any of these lines.

  • " May you never steal, lie, or cheat. But if you must steal, then steal away one's sorrow. And if you must lie, lie with me all the nights of my life. And if you must cheat, then please cheat death because I couldn't live a day without you." Leap Year (2010)

  • May nothing separate the two of you, not even a violent hurricane

  • May the almighty God keep you in his safe arms and see you through those dark moments of your lives

  • May you find real peace and contentment in the little things God provides for you and may you and your children live fulfilled lives

  • May you live as long as you want and want nothing as long as you live

  • May your hand forever be clasped in friendship, and your fears forever clasped in love

  • May you always learn from the past, enjoy the present, and live for the future.

  1. Also, you can make your conclusion memorable if you have a good voice because everyone loves music. If you want to use this approach, then I highly recommend you pick a tune that wedding guests can sing along to.

The ball is in your court, so please decide what you want to conclude with.

Many people thought Alice was Tom’s real daughter. Her parents lost their lives in a motor accident two years after they had her and her grandparents stepped up to the plate.

Both were so kind and so good to her but the little girl’s heart was intertwined with her grandfather because they both loved to help the sick in the local community.

Tom vowed to help her granddaughter achieve the same dreams her parents had for her and he was there for her through thick and thin.

From helping her with homework through helping her through college, Tom had a heart for her precious grandchild.

She got a job at a prestigious accounting firm after graduation.

The next thing she had on her mind was a man to love and cherish her just as her grandparents had done.

On Macy’s 24th birthday, she came to introduce Dan to the family and they were not so sure if he was the one.

Grandfather of the bride speech

As the days went by, they got to know him more and were endlessly impressed with his conduct and her grandparents gave them their blessings.

All was set for their big day when Tom got a call from her granddaughter and guess what she wanted?

''Dad, as she affectionately called him, do you mind if…''

''If what?''

''Please can you give the only speech at my wedding''

Tom almost fell off his seat. He had never given one his whole life yet he didn’t want to let her girl down, so he looked everywhere for help until he found some good ideas which helped him to come up with these words.

A Short Granddad of the Bride Or Groom Speech

Macy, time certainly flies so fast. Before you were born, we were so eager to see who you really were.

I was lucky enough to be in the room when you popped out and when they handed you over to your dad, he told me you are going to be a very special girl.

I looked through your eyes and there and then, I knew from that special light in your eyes that you were going to be a very special child.

But our joy was cut short when your parents left us only 2 years after you arrived.

I often wondered how you were going to survive because we just didn’t have the energy to raise you all by ourselves.

Your granny and I promised your mom and dad when you were born that we would be there for you every step of the way and their sudden exit strengthened our resolve to put a smile on your cute face at every turn.

It wasn’t so easy raising you and making sure you always had that sparkly smile you brought from heaven.

When you grew a little older, we still saw that special light in your heart, and I remember telling my wife, your grandma, that we had to do everything we can to bring the very best in you.

From the sleepless nights watching over you to reading out loud to you before you dozed off, we made sure each day of your life counts.

Suddenly, you bloomed like a rose and we felt like the happiest grandparents ever because every day, you took delicate but sure steps into your glorious future.

Each night, we prayed for you, and your small and big wins and even losses filled our hearts with joy-something your dad and mom always wished to experience…

Then, came your graduation day and it felt you had reached the finish line. But, we felt that was your stepping stone to a big and brighter future. Then, came the day you told us that you had gotten your first job!

Through it all, we felt there was still something missing in your life. At that point, we were growing old and our hope and prayer was that God bless you with someone to love you just as we and your parents do.

For years, we all kept waiting…waiting for the right man to knock on the doors of your heart…

Each year, we hoped and hoped but that gentle knock was never heard.

When we felt we had waiting for so long….then, we had the surprise of our lives….

A fine, young man who endlessly impressed us with his grit, wisdom, and big heart walked into your life.

Someone like you deserve to be loved and when you gave him the keys to your heart, we felt so much peace….the same wonderful feeling we had when we welcomed you into our hearts.

Dan is loving…Dan is patient…Dan is wise and caring and even if we go back to God tomorrow morning….we can go smiling all the way to heaven because we know for sure he will treat you with love and kindness

Dan, please do whatever it takes to love her because your life is in her and hers is in your hand

We leave you both with what my dad said on our wedding day that has been the guiding compass of our marriage.

50 years ago, he gave his wedding speech and made this profound statement: Tom and Anne, your happiness lies in your hands….so make each other happy and your happiness will outlast anything you have

We stuck to that and we are in our 70th year of marriage. You too can achieve similar results if you love each other even when it hurts along love’s rough road. We eternally love you and God almighty bless you with all that you need.

That was Tom’s grandfather of the bride's speech…Can you write something close to that or even better? I bet you can…

Shshs

I have been writing speeches for all manner of people all over the world and I am happy to share with you my time-tested secrets for effortlessly writing a beautiful grandfather of the bride or groom wedding speech.

But, first, I want you to get this right as it hinders most wedding speakers from speaking successfully.

Do This Before You Even Write and You’ll Make It

Before you even write a word, there’s this little voice that will remind you of your past speaking failures if you have ever experienced that.

If you dwell on what that voice tells you, you will get nervous and that will sabotage all your efforts.

You’re hearing that voice because of past failures but you can do so well if you constantly hold a positive mental image of yourself speaking confidently and your confidence will soar more than you ever imagine.

Speech by grandfather to bride or groom

Here’s How To Get The Right Words

That said, let’s see how you can get the right words and ideas and how to properly put your exact thoughts and emotions into the kind of speech you have in mind.

To begin with, first put yourself in the mood.

That means mentally preparing yourself for great ideas to swim in your head…

Wondering how to do that?

By visiting sites like youtube.com and the like.

When, you go there, put in your search term into a search bar or box and wait for a few videos to pop up before you view what you want.

As you do that, get your notepad and pen and put down ideas and phrases you think you can use for your own grandfather of the bride or groom's speech.

By the way, I found this great video to inspire your creative thinking. (You can skip the video if you want to get to the heart of the matter....see below)

This Trusty Tool Will Help You Write In A Very Short Time

Another great tool I often use when I have to come up with an amazing speech on short notice for one of my clients is speech samples. They contain useful ideas you can model your speech after, yet many speakers don’t use them, and the few who do often misuse them.

Thank God, we saw that short and sweet sample above. So, this is what I want us to do together right now.

Let’s get an idea of how it was put together by breaking it down bit by bit so you can write a beautiful speech for your granddaughter or grandson in a very short time.

First, let’s revisit its introduction:

Macy, time certainly flies so fast. Before you were born, we were so eager to see who you really were.

I was lucky enough to be in the room when you popped out and when they handed you over to your dad; he told me this is going to be a very special girl.

Even though this is worthy of our study, I feel a few critical issues were left out…Have any idea what they are?

  • Do you notice that he didn’t mention his name and his relationship with the bride….For example; he could have started it this way…

Good evening and welcome everyone….I am Tom, grandfather, and father of the bride….For those of you wondering why you are playing a dual role, my speech will give …

Since you have no second chance to make a first-time impression, your introductory remarks shouldn’t not only grab the attention of the guests but also lay the groundwork for the rest of the story to follow.

Ok, …enough said for that, so let’s recap excerpts of the body…

I looked through your eyes and there and then, I know from that special light in your eyes that you were going to be a very special child...

But, we felt that was only the stepping stone to a big and brighter future.

Through it all, we felt there was still something missing in your life…For years, we all kept waiting…waiting for the right man to knock on the doors of your heart…Dan, please do whatever it takes to love her because your life is in her and hers is in your hand

My comments/ take-home writing ideas below:

As you probably know, the body is essentially the heartbeat of your speech and that’s where the memorable events are.

To come up with the ideas for the story outline, please decide on the kind of speech you want to give.

Do you want something funny, sentimental, storytelling, poetic or song-like?

Whatever style you go for will determine your choice of words and style.

Most people prefer a combo of funny, sentimental, and storytelling as that works best so I am going to show how to come up with rich ideas for each.

If you want something funny, then

  • Put down funny memories…it could something hilarious said or an episode
  • You may use funny marriage quotes in conjunction with the above

If storytelling, then you have to ask yourself these questions:

  • How did I feel when my granddaughter or grandson was born?
  • Did I take over from her mom and dad at some point in his or her life?
  • Why did I assume that role?
  • What was his or her upbringing life?
  • What was he or she like when she was a little kid?
  • What about his or her teenage years?
  • What about his or her adulthood years

After that, you have to talk about the other couple as your delivery shouldn’t be one-sided.

  • Talk about him or her and your impressions when you got to know him well
  • If you’re the only speaker, you can welcome him into the family…if not, tell him how excited that he’s marrying your granddaughter or grandson

Here’s How To End With A Bang

Let’s look at the conclusion as that carries as much weight as the opening remarks.

Let’s go back to our example under review

We leave you both with what my own dad said on our wedding day that has been the guiding compass of our marriage.

50 years ago, he gave his wedding speech and made this profound statement: Tom and Anne, your happiness lies in your hands….so make each other happy and your happiness will outlast anything you have.

Wedding toast for granddaughter or grandson

We stuck to that and we are in our 70th year of marriage. You too can achieve similar results if you love each other even when it hurts along love’s rough road. We eternally love you and God almighty bless you with all that you need.

Comments/take-home writing ideas:

There are several ways to end on a memorable but I feel the best way to do that is by giving love or marriage advice.

Why?

Everyone respects you and it’s very likely that they would want to hear the words of a very experienced person who’s been through every storm of life.

Grandma of the Bride Or Groom Wedding Speech:Is Thought of Giving A Beautiful Wedding Speech For Your Granddaughter or Grandson Stealing Your Joy And Happiness?

Just Follow These Easy Steps Below And You Can Easily Write A Great Grandmother Speech That Will Excite Your Family and The Wedding Guests!

M5

Tina was in the delivery room when her Margaret, her only daughter was due for her first child.

After delivering a cute baby girl, Margaret slipped into a peaceful coma and her mom had to take care of the little girl.

Wedding toast by grandmother to bride or groom

Grandma Tina was happy to do so because she had always looked forward to having two daughters but she wasn’t lucky and it felt more like a dream come true.

She loved Hillary so much that she was very adamant to go back to her mom when she got back on her feet. So, both mom and daughter agreed that the little active girl could stay in granny’s place for a little longer.

She ended up staying under her roof from middle school through college and occasionally went home to see her own family.

Having graduated from college and found a job, she met the man of her dreams and before they tied the knot, she asked her grandmom to give a speech.

Grandma Tina almost fell off her seat when she heard she was going to speak before a small group of people. She had never given one her whole life and that made it even more terrifying.

Thankfully, she read the tips I am going to share with you pretty soon and this was what she came up with ( Please note: you can modify this if you will be speaking about your grandson)

It feels like only yesterday, you came into our lives and my whole world centered around you.

Growing up, I dreamed of having two precious daughters. A little less than a year after I had gotten married to your late grandpa, we had our first child and I remember telling my husband when your mom was three years old that we better go for the second.

We thought that was going to happen soon like the first. But year after year, we kept trying and doing all we could to make our dreams come true.

When I was forty, I stopped pursuing that goal. I remember thinking out loud that your mom might bless me with a cute little girl on that wintry night and put a warm smile on my face.

I longed to support your mom to take good care of you because I wanted nothing but the very best for you and her.

Grandmother of the bride or groom speech

But God had another plan for her. Through it all, we were hopeful that she would regain her joy and purpose for living and she did far more than we could ever imagine.

Growing, you were so active that you sometimes sapped my energy.

I still remember how you made me run like a 100-meter Olympic sprinter that I almost collapsed on the small field at our backyard.

In spite of that, I longed to be near you because you were so adorable and fun to be around. Suddenly, you bloomed like a springtime flower and I could only imagine where life would take you.

You made us proud every step of the way. On my 70th birthday party, your mom was worried after the guests were all gone. She was worried about the person you will marry and whether that man will love you just as we do.

I remember telling you that you were someone I could count on. It’s amazing how that special man over there walked into your life and made us all so proud. You told me over and over even you were a child that you were not going to marry for the sake of being married. But your heart will sing when you find Mr. Right.

Today, I look into the beautiful light in your eyes and it seems as if your heart is singing a beautiful love melody that tugs at the heart. You’ve been the sunshine of our lives and we wish you well as you start life with Dan.

Always know that we will love you and be constantly praying for your everlasting happiness because you deserve all the blessings love gives.

Dan, thanks for bringing out the best in our daughter and for making her see life from a very enlightening perspective.

Today, I have the honor to give you the best gift of our lives and we trust that you will put her first in everything we do. Remember, you belong to each other so love her and treat her like a princess and you will be one of the truly happy men who ever lived.

On your big day, her mom and I wish you nothing but true love and happiness. God bless you both abundantly and always know that we will be there for you both.

Do you really have what it takes to write something short and sweet like that?

It’s not as hard as you think. By the way, l am going to walk you through everything you need to know about writing an amazing grandmom of the bride or groom speech for your granddaughter or grandson.

Take Note Of This Else You Will Fail

But, first, let’s look at one thing that cripples most wedding speakers from pulling off something memorable.

If you do a fair amount of public speaking, you will realize that anytime you have to stand before a group of people, you will get nervous.

It gets very scary if you don’t do that quite often. You see, as you get all set to deliver your remarks at your granddaughter’s or grandson’s wedding, you will hear little voices in your head which will simply tell you that you don’t have what it takes to do so well.

Maybe you didn’t succeed when you spoke in public sometime in the past, and that voice will kind of resurrect feelings of fear.

But listen. You don’t have to dwell on that. You should instead believe you can by focusing on the task ahead of you and you will shine like the stars.

How To Get The Job Done With Ease

That said; let’s see how you can get the right words and ideas to help you write your speech.

First, put yourself in the mood for the expressions of your thoughts.

How?

By visiting video sharing sites like youtube.com and the like.

Then, insert your keywords like the grandma of the bride….grandma of the groom's speech and watch a few of such clips.

The purpose of doing this is to get inspired. So, go grab your note pad and pen and click on this sample video and jot down ideas and tips you think you can include in your own speech.

Have You Also Considered This Stress-Relieving Tool?

Another great tool that most speakers under-utilize is speech samples. Well written ones are proven to write your thoughts out like a pro!

To illustrate, I am going to break down the speech grandma Tina gave so you get a fair idea of how best to do the same.

First, let’s re-visit here introduction.

Here you go:

It feels like only yesterday, you came into our lives, and my whole world centered on you.

Any comment? While that is a remarkable introduction, there are certainly critical elements of a good intro missing.

She should have

  • Greeted the audience
  • mentioned her name and her relationship with the bride.
  • Thanked the audience for coming

This is a short example:

Hello, good evening and welcome everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Tina, and I am…………grand mom.

I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come and celebrate with this couple….

Afterward, her sentiments can follow: It feels like only yesterday…

This Makes All The Difference

Ok…let’s look at another component of her speech: the body

These are excerpts:

Growing, you were so active that you sometimes sapped my energy...

I still remember how you made me run like a 100-meter Olympic sprinter that I almost collapsed on…

In spite of that, I longed to be near you because you were so adorable and fun to be around…You made us proud every step of the way. On my 70th birthday party, your mom was worried after the guests were all gone.

I remember telling you that you were someone…

Do you have any idea what goes into the body? Well, before you even start to write, you should have a writing goal in mind.

Simply ask yourself if you want to do a funny, dramatic, poetic, song-like, sentimental, or even a storytelling speech?

What I have seen from helping wedding speakers with their speeches is that most moms prefer a blend of funny and sentimental.

So, if that’s what you want, then you have to

  • Write down funny memories or anecdotes about your granddaughter or grandson you feel you can include in your message

If you want to execute something classic using the storytelling approach, then you should provide answers to questions like

  • How did you feel when your grandchild was born?
  • What was or were your dreams for her?
  • How was she like when she was growing up? Put this part into her childhood, teenage and adulthood

If his or her parents are speaking on the wedding date, you can collaborate with them to ensure that you don’t repeat similar stories or ideas. All in all, it’s best to stick with events that involved only you and her or something you saw from afar!

As part of the body, you should say something about the groom or bride.

Wedding by grandmother to granddaughter or grandson

For example, you can talk about why you love him and why you think he or she will be a great husband or wife...

See how this writer did that.

It’s amazing how that special man over...Today, I look into the beautiful light in your eyes and it seems like…

You’ve been the sunshine of our lives…Always know that we will love you and be constantly praying for your everlasting happiness because you deserve all the blessings love gives.

Dan…Today, I have the honor to give you the best gift of our lives and we trust that you will put her first in everything we do…God bless you both

If you’re the sole speaker of the night, then you can welcome him or her into your family.

If you’re not, you still can do that by telling him or her why you’re so happy to join theirs.

Here's an example:  I am so excited that you’re now part of our family and we look forward to spending quality time with yours.

Enough said about that

Here Are Some Proven Secrets To Ending On A High Note!

Let’s now look at how to end on a very memorable note.

Here’s how our writer closed her speech:

On your big day, her mom and I wish you nothing but true love and happiness. God bless you both abundantly and always know that we will be there for you both.

Here are my take-home ideas:  There are several ways to leaving favorable impressions on the wedding guests before you go back to your seat and I am happy to share a few with you.

  1. You can just give your well-wishes as we saw in the example
  2. You can end with any of these love quotes

Love quote 1: ''Where there is love there is life.'' – Mahatma Gandhi

Love quote 2: ''You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.'' – Dr. Seuss

Love quote 3: ''A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.'' – Mignon McLaughlin

  1. You can quote poetry about love….Let me use this verse by ……….to illustrate with Emily Dickinson’s ‘’It’s all I have to bring today’’

It’s all I have to bring today—
This, and my heart beside—
This, and my heart, and all the fields—
And all the meadows wide—
Be sure you count—should I forget
Someone the sum could tell—
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which is the Clover dwell?

Watch me closely as I write based on the theme of that poem….not going to use the whole thing but I am only going to use the word: ‘’heart’

 See what I composed below

Though winter and summers of your life will come and go, always be sure that you hold each other’s heart and you will be stronger together no matter what happens...

Can you do the same? You can...don't doubt yourself!

Aunt Of The Bride Or Groom Wedding Speech

Wondering How To Write A Sweet Speech For Your Niece Or Nephew? These Tips, Ideas, And Examples Can Help You Give A Heartwarming Aunt Of The Groom Or Bride Wedding Speech Fast And Easy!

M3

I think you will agree with that me that there has never been, nor will there ever be, anything quite as special as the love between the mother and child.

Your desire to give the best auntie of the bride or groom speech reminds me of this little story.

Mary wasn’t so lucky as most women do as soon as they get married. Not too long after she tied the knot, her expectation was to have a girl as her first child.

But that didn’t happen as quickly as she thought it would. After sharing the same roof with the same man for about 6 years, she couldn’t figure out what was really wrong with her.

So, he underwent all kinds of fertility tests but there was no real breakthrough.

When she thought all hope was lost and gone, she gave to a twin boy whom she loved so much and she felt they were more than enough.

They grew up into adorable twins and left for college and she felt she might be lucky this time and yes, she was.

Wedding speech by aunt to niece or nephew

On her due date, she was in the delivery room for almost a day and there was this lingering doubt in her heart if she would make it.

One day, he called her sister, Anne, to come over to the hospital and said: Anne, I don’t know if I would ever get well.

But you loved me and the boys like your own children all these years, you’ve believed in me and my kids and you were there for me every step of the way, but if I should die please take care of my baby girl so well. You will forever be in our hearts even beyond eternity.

Anne didn’t let her sister down at all. She took care of the little girl like one of her own and when she was all grown, she met a very wonderful man.

All was set for their big day and Auntie Monica had to deliver an auntie of the bride's speech.

She really wanted to capture the sentiments of her heart like a song. Thank God, she got some good tips from a friend and this is the speech she came up with:

(Please note: This is an example for a bride but you can personalize it if you’re aunt of the groom speech)

A  Short Aunt Of The Bride Speech Example

Good evening everyone and welcome, I’m Amanda.

I would also like to thank all of you for coming.

Your mom has always looked forward to seeing you walk down the aisle with the love of your life. Tears of joy bubbled up in my heart when your dad walked you the aisle and it reminded me of what your mom once told me: Anne, love and cherish her like one of your own because I will be looking down at you with pure love when that special day comes.

Now, here you are looking like a queen sitting by the special person who has the keys to the doors of your heart.

When you were born, I made a promise to your mom to love you to the end and seeing that your life is filled with happiness with every turn because a wonderful person like you deserves nothing but love and love alone.

Growing up, you were so sweet and cute and I knew for sure that you will make us proud every step of the way. So I did my best to be a good role model so you could also be a good role model to your own kids someday.

You had such a wild spirit growing up and that kept me on my toes. Nonetheless, I still believed in you as you were destined to reach for the stars.

In a twinkle of an eye, you got to your teens and you had your own sense of style and fashion!  As her Mom, I can proudly say that her great sense of style and zest for life are just remarkable, and by the way, she's my best fashion advisor.

Anne, even though you have had many successes but meeting Dan rates right up there with graduating from college and getting your first  “big girl job”.

Anne, I love you and that will last a lifetime. Even though our love for you will last for a lifetime, you have opened the doors of your heart to Dan and I am confident he will do love as much as we do.

Dan is polite, has a great sense of humor, and very fun to be with. I remember we took a vacation with his family where Dan asked me and his dad for Anne’s hand in marriage.

We were so happy and then had to keep it a secret until his surprise proposal.  His mom and dad have raised a fine young man and we are proud to call him our son-in-law.

Dan and Anne believe me, all the things you have and will ever have will fade away sooner or later, but there’s only one thing that will last forever. And it’s your love for each other.

So, always put on the garment of selfless love and you will be building a rich future for your kids. God bless you and thanks to everyone for coming.

Want to know more about how that was written and how you can use the insights learned to write your auntie of the bride or groom's speech?

Ok...we will be breaking down each element of that speech soon. But first, I  want you to get this right as it hinders the success of many aunties when delivering your words.

Let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you a confident speaker?
  • Have you ever spoken in public?
  • Do you have the skill or talent to write a short speech about your nephew or niece?

Does This Keep You Up At Night?

Well, I am asking you these because most people think they have to possess some special writing skills or become very eloquent to come up with something heartfelt.

That’s not always the case. While being a gifted writer or speaker can pull off something remarkable, just about anyone (including you) can perform well beyond expectations if you believe you can.

You see, you have been entrusted with this responsibility because the couple trusts you and you should not let them down.

From time to time, you will hear this small voice in your head telling you that you don’t have what it takes to cook up something beautiful.

You don’t have to listen to this voice.  It’s pretty normal for that voice to attack your mind but what you do with it can work for your good.

Dwelling on it can paralyze you. If you want your confidence to soar, then you have to constantly envision yourself giving your speech with poise and flair. As you keep at it, your hope will amplify.

Aunt of the bride or groom speech

That said; let’s look at the introduction of that sample speech.

Good evening everyone and welcome, I’m Amanda. I would also like to thank all of you for coming.

This is a pretty standard introduction and there’s nothing wrong with that. But, as you may know, the opening line of any speech has to capture the attention of the wedding guests in a very special way.

By the way, this writer did so well telling the guests who she was and thanking the guests. But, she could have gone further to thank specific persons like Anne’s dad and even tell the wedding attendees why she’s speaking on behalf of her dad or mom.

You should take these things into consideration when stringing your thoughts together.

Since you have no second chance to make a first impression, let’s look at some proven ways to start your auntie of the bride or groom's speech with a bang.

  • Share your personal sentiments about the joyous occasionFor example; Your mom has always looked forward to seeing you walk down the aisle with the love of your life...Tears of joy bubbled up in my heart when your dad walked you the aisle and it reminded me…..

  • You can also begin by reflecting on your own marriage….An example is…Dan’s marriage to Anne reminds of me when Mike and I got married some 30 years ago

  • What about starting off with a love quote…lines like what you see below can inspire you to come with something unique.

a.''The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved — loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.''---Victor Hugo

b.'' There's only one happiness in life, to love and be loved''- George Best

There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved. George Sand

c. '' To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.” —Lao Tzu

Want to come up with something short and sweet…Don’t worry…Let’s get down to it….

On a beautiful moment like this, you can’t help but agree with writer Victor Hugo that the greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves. And that’s so true because

Hang on a minute…can you give that a try using any of the above quotes?

Remember, we still have some territory to cover…so here’s an extract of the body….please read it carefully

The body essentially captures the memories of your speech and you should spend quality time coming with the right anecdotes.

Here are some questions to help you come up with some heartwarming memories:

  1. How was your nephew or nice like when she was a little boy or girl?

  1. Do you remember funny memories?

  1. What one thing about the bride or the groom stands out that you really want to share?

  1. What do you really admire about him or her?

  1. What’s his or her most significant achievement or something about their character that’s so admirable?

  1. What were you or the impressions of the bride or groom when you or the family met them?

  1. What do you really admire about him or her?

Feel free to add other stuff but make sure the anecdotes flow in chronological order if you want to flow from his or her childhood through adulthood.

If you don’t want to, then, you can choose one aspect of his or her character you admire and embellish it with the right stories. For example, you can talk about his or her persistence or industry, etc...

Can you see how it’s done here? As her Mom(Aunt), I can proudly say that her great sense of style…she's my best fashion advisor.

The last lines of your aunt of the bride or groom wedding speech carry the same weight like the introduction…why? That’s because you have end your message favorably as you can see below:

Dan and Anne believe me, all the things you have and will ever have will fade away sooner or later, but there’s only one thing that will last forever. And it’s your love for each other. So, always put on the garment of selfless love and you will be building a rich future for your kids.

Other than pieces of advice, what other technique can you use here?

Here is a couple of them:

  • You can share your personal experiences as a married person
  • You can simply offer some well-wishes
  • You may use any of those quotes we saw earlier
  • My favorite is ending with a poem about love or song about love, but those sang are hard to forget
  • My best way of closing a speech is by lacing your advice with a movie quote and it works all the time.

Uncle Of The Bride Or Groom Wedding Speech: Wondering How To Write A Sweet Speech For Your Nephew Or Niece?

These Tips, Ideas, And Examples Can Help You Give A Heartwarming Uncle Of The Bride Or Groom Wedding Speech Easily And Quickly!

Djdjdj

Once upon a time, I received an email from a certain man who had a simple request.

Wondering what that was? Jimmy (not his real name) asked:

''Dan, can you help me write a speech for my nephew?''

I mused over that for some hours before agreeing to help him out. Believe it or not, when he filled out a simple speech questionnaire, I wanted to change my mind but I did my best to work on his speech, and his feedback after the wedding came to an end was nothing short of amazing!

Before that request came in, I had never heard uncles give speeches at the bride or groom’s weddings and that came as a big surprise.

Maybe you are in a similar situation like Jimmy and you’re probably wondering how to write a very beautiful and special speech for your nephew or niece.

Don’t worry because I am going to show you how to easily get the good words for the bride or groom and how to string your thoughts together to form a meaningful speech.

Before we do that, let’s look at one crucial factor that prevents most uncles of the bride or groom from achieving goals and how you can take advantage of that to speak with power, poise, and clarity.

Toast by uncle of the bride or groom

Does This Keep You Up At Night?

Let’s jump right in!

First, let me ask you these simple questions:

  • Have you ever given a speech your whole life?
  • Do you tremble anytime you have to address a small crowd?
  • Do you really think you’re cut out for speaking in public?

These questions are not meant to scare the daylights out of you, but this is to remind you that there’s this little voice in our heads that triggers memories of our past failures and successes.

If you goofed big time when you were asked to say something before an audience, then it will tell you that you can’t make it.

That’s a big lie! Guess what? That happens to even experienced speakers and you’re bound to encounter that.  Paying heed to it will kind of get you grounded. Here’s what I recommend you do if you feel the nerves.

You see, what you accept as real will ultimately influence your performance.

So, I always encourage a lot of wedding speakers to constantly focus on the bright side of things instead.

Holding a positive mental image no matter how you’re feeling will empower you from within and form the bedrock of your success.

Here's How To Get What I Talked About

Now, let’s see how to get good words. As you are well aware, you just can’t pack and go visit a foreign country as a tourist. Similarly, you just can put your ideas down on paper without some prior preparation.

So, this is what I will recommend you do right now.

First, put yourself in the mood for the clever expression of your ideas. How?

It’s simple. Go right now to any of the video-sharing websites like YouTube.

If you’re an uncle of the groom, then please input the search term: uncle of the groom speech or wedding speech for my nephew

If you’re the bride’s uncle, then your search term should be: uncle of the bride speech or wedding speech for my niece

Well, I want this whole exercise to be fairly easy for you. So, I scour the web and found these great videos.

If you’re the brides’ uncle, please click play to watch this short clip below to get inspired.

P.S: This is for a nephew but you can slightly modify it for your niece.

GREETINGS AND SHORT-SELF INTRODUCTION

Hello, good evening and welcome everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dan.

I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come and celebrate with both families. It feels like only yesterday, Mark came into our lives and his birth threw our entire family into a joyful celebration.

Now, here he is all grown up and about to start life with Amanda.

Growing up, Mark was a very determined person. I remember back when he was sent to the Middle East for peacekeeping missions, he went through struggles, difficulties, challenges, and several heartbreaking adversities and that was just enough to make him lose hope

But those experiences strengthened his resolve and brought out the best in him when the time was right. When he came back home, we could hardly recognize our son as he had visible scars all over his body and we thought we would never find true love.

I remember his mom saying to me when he was discharged from the hospital. Dan, do you ever think someone other us can love him the way we do. That broke my heart and all through the night, I wept like a little baby.

Though it was quite tough when he got back home, he believed that his future would be so bright!

Thanks to the loving support, care, and encouragement from family and friends, his faith in God, hard work, and determination, he got back on his feet much faster than we thought possible and he began to function as we knew him for.

Two years ago, we celebrated his birthday and after singing for him, he grabbed the microphone and exclaimed: Hello everyone, thank you for putting a smile on my face, but I have a surprise for you all.

Wedding speech by uncle to nephew or niece

I was sitting close to his mom and he held my hands and quizzed: My son loves you just like his dad and tells you the deep secrets of his heart. Do you have a clue? No, I said. But she still didn’t believe me.

Well, Dan asked us to close our eyes and when we opened them, we saw him sitting next to this beautiful lady. Then, he added: Can you thank this precious lady for me everybody? She was my backbone when I went through all that? I am sure God has brought us together for a purpose.

At that moment, his mom and dad broke down in tears of joy, thankful that their son had found the love of their life and I almost fell of my chair. It felt like a dream.

Looking back, I can confidently say we’re so proud of him and thus far he’s come. God’s amazing grace and blessing have brought him thus far. As his uncle, he continually inspires me with his strong work ethic and quiet perseverance.

Mark, Amanda loves you just as we do and we are sure she will stand by you all the days of your life. Your life has become so beautiful ever since she walked into your life.

Amanda, thanks for loving him through thick and thin and I must say you are the best gift of his life and ours as well. He’s our only son and we know you will take good care of him well since you’re a very loving person. You’re honest, god-fearing, loving, caring, a good cook and we are confident that you’ll be a good wife and mom!

Mark and Amanda, choosing to build your lives together is the wisest decision any young people can make.

But as you know, true love becomes a reality after you both have walked through the fires of life and have come out still holding each other’s hand tenderly.  So, always love one another no matter what happens. God bless you.

Want to know more about how to come up with something sweet like you just read? Not as hard as you think.

Let’s take each part of that uncle of the groom or bride speech one step at a time.

First, the introduction. Below is a recap.

Hello, good evening and welcome everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dan.

I would like to say how happy and grateful we are to have you come and celebrate with both families.

The opening line of any presentation is very crucial. While this is a brilliant job his opening lines didn’t do its work as expected.

Here’s what I think this kind uncle could have done to make it memorable.

Since he’s not the real parent of the groom or bride, he should have at least made us aware of why he’s speaking instead of the parents.

Again, he should have thanked those who came from far and near to grace the occasion.

To excite the wedding guests, he could have begun this way:

When two young people are in love, the whole world seems to center around them. Today, Mark and Sherrie are surrounded by love…..

Don’t you think starting with that statement would rouse the attention of the wedding guests?

Well, you can begin your intro with a story, song, or any other quotes on love but make sure what you go for is always in sync with your theme.

Let’s look at the body at this point. Here are some excerpts so you can follow the story.

Growing up, Mark was a very determined person.

I remember back ……Dan, do you ever think someone other usTwo years ago, we celebrated his birthday and after singing for him, he grabbed the microphone and exclaimed: Hello everyone, thank you for putting a smile on my faceAt that moment, his mom and dad broke down in tears of joy, thankful that their son had found the love of their life…

The body is the heart of your storyline and it usually comprises these elements:

  • How you or the family felt when your nephew or niece was born
  • By bringing back warm memories using anecdotes as we saw in that example
  • Then, you express how proud you are of him or her and how happy that he or she has found that special one
  • Afterward, you can talk about their choice of spouse and welcome him or her into your family...don't forget to thank the bride or groom’s family for their love and support

Uncle of the groom or bride wedding speech

Don’t Take This For Granted

Many speakers don’t end well and that breaks my heart. If we go back to our example, we’d find this:

Mark and Amanda, choosing to build your lives together is the wisest decision any young people can make.

But as you know, true love becomes a reality after you both have walked through the fires of life and have come out still holding each other’s hand tenderly.

So, always love one another no matter what happens. God bless you.

I know you might want to know if there’s something wrong with that….far from it but there are other clever ways of making your concluding remarks memorable….How?

  1. What if you could sing to the beat of a well-known song?
  2. What if you end with a proverb on love?

As an example, let’s look closely at these proverbs on love….

  • There is no cure for love other than marriage." —Irish proverb
  • Nothing is impossible for a willing heart." —French proverb
  • Love has to be shown by deeds, not words." —Swahili proverb
  • "It is love that makes the impossible, possible." —Indian proverb
  • Lover's hearts are linked together and always beat as one."  Chinese proverb
  • The heart that loves is always young." —Greek proverb

I love examples because they make our lives much easier and I’d like to show you how you can use at least one of those proverbs to conclude your speech

This touched my heart so I am going for it: "It is love that makes the impossible, possible." —Indian proverb

Ready? Ok, let’s get things underway

Mark and Lisa, you gave got the greatest gift in your life and that’s your love. It’s your seed…so cherish and nourish and as the years go by, you will realize that your love for each other will make what you felt was impossible very possible…

Got that? That’s it.

Mother Of The Groom Speech Rehearsal Dinner Speech Samples

Several Moms Around The World Are Using This Short And Sweet Mother Of The Groom Speech Sample To Effortlessly Write Something Beautiful About Their Sons And Daughters-in-law for the rehearsal dinner night...Have You Seen It?

Wondering how to effortlessly give a beautiful speech at the rehearsal dinner without trying so hard?

Mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech tips and ideas

Don’t worry…Just follow this easy-to-follow example and you will only be a step away from saying something funny and heartfelt about your precious son.

Amanda had three wonderful boys and her dream as they grew older was to see them get married to wonderful ladies.

She, however, wasn’t around to see her first and second sons get married because she was involved in a fatal accident and that kept her in the hospital bed for many years.

When his last son decided to take his fiancée to the altar, she was back on her feet and her son asked her to give a speech at the rehearsal dinner.

She had never given a speech her whole life and this kept her up at night.

A few days before the event, she hastily put something together and this is what she said that night:

Good evening and welcome everyone. I am Linda, Aaron’s mother.

Aaron has always held a special place in my heart.

It seems like only yesterday, he came into my life and made me feel like the luckiest mom ever.

From that moment on, my hope and prayer were to love and raise him to be a wonderful man someday.

M6 (1)

Growing up, you were very active and fun to be with and that hasn’t changed over the years.

Whether Aaron was acting up and making faces, telling jokes, pranking someone, or drawing funny pictures, the little boy really lit my heart with joy.

I remember he was so easy-going that my girlfriends and younger children loved to always hang with him.

Even before those kids were able to talk or get out and move on their own much, he would take care of them and make sure they were happy and not be crying in their pumpkin seats.

Sometimes, he would take them for rides. Aaron loved to work with his hands and it was a great joy to see him try new things. His love for cars formed when he reached his teens.

The years have come and gone pretty fast and he’s grown into a very respectful, thoughtful, compassionate, responsible, selfless, charming, witty, and sensitive young man.

Aaron, we are so proud of the wonderful man you’ve become and how far life has brought you.

I thank God for giving you to me and for giving me the opportunity to love unconditionally.

You came into my life and saved me in so many ways.

You are also wonderful in every way and I love that you truly show me every day how much you love and need me.

Your selfless nature, and unconditionally love for people is so admirable and I know for sure that will take you far in life.

Even though my love for you runs so deep, I am so excited that Cmantha now has your heart and can’t wait to see what great things you will accomplish with Cmantha, for your own children.

Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron and Cmantha have been friends for a very long time. They met way back in high school.

I first met her when she came over to swim at our house. The more I got to know her, the more I realized she was a very good person for my son.

As time went on, I watched how she treated Aaron with love and brought out the best in him and I secretly hoped that someday they will tie the knot.

Today, my dream has come true and I am ecstatic that it's all finally official and Cmantha’s now my daughter.

Cmantha, you have no idea how much you mean to us. Words can’t just describe the love we have for you.

As a family, we’ve been through ups and downs. But, through it all, you stood by us and showered us with endless love. It feels so good to know that you’ve married Kyle.

Not only are you so beautiful, but you’re so strong, intelligent, respectful, compassionate, patient, empathetic, self- confident and you love children.

I am confident that you will be a good wife and mom! We love you and on behalf of my family, I would like to welcome you and your family into ours with open arms.

Aaron and Cmantha, for years, you both have cherished each other with every passing moment. You truly complement each other.

As you begin your lives together, I pray you stay blessed and I wish you nothing but happy moments and endless love. God bless you both

Wouldn’t it great if you write something close to that or even better when your son calls you out of the blue and asks you to say something short and sweet?

Would you pass that up or make him proud? I know you’re wondering how you’re going to do that since you are someone who hates speaking in front of a small audience.

Mother of the groom speech at rehearsal dinner

Wipe Your Tears Because...

Whatever your case is, don’t worry because I am going to show you how you can use the example above to write a beautiful mom of the groom's speech that captures the sentiments of your heart.

Before we do, please take note of this. Before you even write your mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech, you have to work on healing yourself from the inside out.

You see, the vast majority of mothers get mentally disadvantaged due to past speaking failures and they often get stuck in the writing process.

What that means is that you need to work on yourself if you are not a confident speaker or are scared that your presentation is going to be a déjà vu of past failures.

Believe it or not, if you have been through the tortuous agony of addressing a few people, you are definitely going to hear a lot of tormenting voices in your head as soon as you make up your mind to say something about your son and daughter-in-law.

Among many things, this domineering voice will remind you of your insecurities like you are not good with words or don’t have the guts to speak in public. What you do with the voice you hear will reinforce your anxieties and insecurities.

If you want to excel, you have to dwell on the positive side of things by first considering that you have another chance to make up for your losses. Your son, your family, as well as the wedding guests, are not expecting a perfect speech from your lips.

All that they want to hear from you is memorable stories about your son’s life presented in a very loving way. I know you have lots of fond memories to share with everyone. So, put behind you whatever experiences or you have been through and envision how well this is going to be.

As you keep at it,  you will be empowered from within even if you are as shy as a deer in the headlights and you will be able to practice speaking with confidence and make sure you sound confident when you talk.

As a wedding speechwriter, I am often asked by most moms how to get the best ideas on how to write a great mother of the groom rehearsal dinner speech.

It’s actually simple than most mothers think. One fine place of getting rich ideas most mothers overlook is on youtube.com et al.

If you have not watched at least two videos on the subject, then you shouldn’t bother to draft your speech because water can’t flow from an empty reservoir. What that means is that you need to see videos to get a good grasp of how to make your thoughts flow smoothly.

I scoured the internet and found these pieces. They are to give you an idea of what the narration sounds like.

My suggestion is to watch both clips like two or three times and put down notes and ideas you want to incorporate into your final delivery.

Mother of the Groom Rehearsal Dinner Speech Example# 2

Which one did you enjoy listening to the most? I love both videos but the second story was my favorite.

That said,  I promise to review Linda’s sample speech so we can figure out how she wrote it.

So, let’s take the most important elements of the speech one step at a time.

First, let’s look carefully at the introduction or opening remarks.

Aaron has always held a special place in my heart.

It seems like only yesterday, he came into my life and made me feel like the luckiest mom ever.

From that moment on, my hope and prayer was to love and raise him to be a wonderful man someday.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas: Do you think that was a great intro? I think so but there are some vital elements missing here.

Liza should have added these to her introductory remarks:

  • She could have mentioned the father of the groom if he’s not deceased
  • Her name and who she’s to Aaron
  • Greet the audience and thank everyone for coming
  • She could have mentioned certain people and thank them for contributing to his son’s upbringing other the years….People like Aaron’s grandparents, her husband, and other members of the family.

Cmantha’s parents deserve some recognition in that part of her speech.

Putting all of that together would have turned out something like this:

Good evening and welcome everyone!

I’m Linda, proud mom of the groom.

It gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish this wonderful couple.

I would like to thank everyone who has come from near and far to share in our joy and happiness.

I would like to take this moment to thank Nani for her…

Now, let’s get back to see other sections of Liza’s speech. Please study it carefully.

Growing up, you were very active and fun to be with and that hasn’t changed over the years.

Whether Aaron was acting up and making faces, telling jokes, pranking someone, or drawing funny pictures, the little boy could really lit your heart with joy.

I remember he was so easy-going that my girlfriends and younger children loved to always hang with him.

Even before those kids were able to talk or get out and move on their own much, he would take care of them and make sure they were happy and not be crying in their pumpkin seats. Sometimes, he would take them for rides.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas:

Right after the introduction of the speech, we segue into Aaron's formative years.

Here’s what I want you to do right now.

Go grab your paper and pen and provide answers to the following questions:

  • How was your son like when he was a little kid?
  • What did he like doing most?
  • Do you remember any funny thing he liked doing?
  • What was his favorite past time or his hobbies?
  • How did you feel when he was growing up?

Dear Mom,

Don’t put down anything negative as you write down memories.

Having scribbled down something brief, go back to the template I gave you at the onset of this piece and examine how the ideas follow one another and do likewise.

Okay, let’s go on.

The years have come and gone pretty fast and he’s grown into a very respectful, thoughtful, compassionate, responsible, selfless, charming, witty, and sensitive young man.

Kyle, we are so proud of the wonderful man you’ve become and how far life has brought you.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas: Please, I want you to scroll up and read that brief extract once more. What can you say about that?

Did you notice how Linda the writer incorporated the following ideas into that part of her short mom of the groom rehearsal dinner speech?

  • How proud she is of her son

  • How her son’s character has evolved over the years

  • How she sings her sons' praises

You can model your speech after that and spice it up with….

  • His achievements over the years if you don't want to sound like you're bragging
  • How he helped make a difference in your life and the whole family

Not too long ago, I wrote a speech for a very loving woman from Canada and she told me that her son values ''family over everything'' and she wanted to share that with the wedding guests.

After thinking hard about that, I ended up by saying:

Mr. F.O. E is very sensitive. For those of you know wondering what F.E.O means…it stands for ''family over everything.'' Mr. F.O.E makes every one of the family feel loved and special whenever we meet….

I hope by now you get a sense of where this is going... We still have a few miles to cover, so let’s go on:

Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron and Cmantha have been friends for a very long time. They met way back in high school.

I first met her when she came over to swim at our house. The more I got to know her, the more I realized she was a very good person for my son.

As time went on, I watched how she treated Aaron with love and brought out the best in him and I secretly hoped that someday they will tie the knot.

Today, my dream has come true and I am just completely ecstatic that it's all finally official and Cmantha’s now my daughter.

My comments/your take-home writing ideas:

After you have said something about your son, you then briefly tell how the couple met if you know about that story.

Just put down answers to questions like the following so you can say something about your daughter-in-law.

  • How did you feel when you met your future daughter in law?
  • What were your impressions of her as the days went by?
  • What memories do you have of her…it could be a road trip, vacation tip, family get together your entire family embarked on and how she was very helpful

That reminds me of a speech I once wrote. The mom of the groom loved the bride very much that she wanted to insert into her speech how her precious daughter-in-law stood by the entire family throughout the years and including that moved me to tears because she was a very supportive lady.

You may walk down memory lane and inject into the presentation the difference the bride has had on your life.

Here are Linda's concluding remarks:

Aaron and Cmantha, for years, you both have cherished each other with every passing moment.

You truly complement each other. As you begin your lives together, I pray you stay blessed and I wish you nothing but happy moments and endless love. God bless you both

My comments/your take-home writing ideas :

What you say before you take your seat will linger on the minds of the couple and the wedding guests, so you should put in a great deal of thought into what you say or write about your son or daughter-in-law.

It’s very common for most mothers to...

  • Dispense advice on marriage like this one

Aaron and Cmantha, as you begin this endless journey, always bear in mind that together you are a unique team and you can make your dreams come true as long as you have the same mind, heart, and spirit.

You may use any of the following quotes to spice up your speech based on your experience of being married.

  • A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

  • “A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” – Dave Meurer

  • “Never marry the one you can live with, marry the one you cannot live without.” – Unknown

  • “A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love.” – Pearl S. Buck

  • “Marriage is not about age; it’s about finding the right person.” – Sophia Bush

  • Say what your best wishes are for the marriage

  • "Best wishes to you both as you start your life together."

  • "Lots of love and happiness to you both on this exciting and joyful day for our family."

  • "Lots of love to you both.  May you have a marriage full of love and happiness!"

  •   You can end with a poem about love or marriage or even a wise quote.

  • If you are a Christian, you can get some good bible verses to write faith-based advice for the couple. Here are a couple of scriptures you can use.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22

Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him-a a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” Proverbs 31:10-12
