Groom speech for wife

Before we do, I want to share with you this joke as it holds the key to what we are going to look at.

You Can Use This Joke For Your Groom Speech

A speaker was about to address a public meeting when he realized that he had left his false teeth at home.

He shuffled around anxiously for a few moments before informing the lady who was chairing the meeting that he would be unable to give his speech because he had forgotten his false teeth.

His predicament was overheard by a man in the front row of the audience who immediately produced a pair of false teeth from his pocket and said: ''Why don’t you try these?''

The speaker put the set of false teeth in his mouth but they were too tight. The speaker put the second set of teeth in his mouth but they were too loose. ''It’s no good,'' he said. ''I’ll have to pull out.''

''Wait,''  said the man.  ''It so happens that I have one more pair of false teeth in my pocket. Try these.''

The speaker did, and they fitted perfectly. ''Well, thank you,’’ he said, ‘’I’ve been looking for a good dentist.''

''I am not a dentist,'' said the man. ''I am an undertaker.''

At that point, the speaker’s face fell and he said ''Am sure it doesn’t belong to a dead man?''

The undertaker replied, ''You made similar excuses at the wedding of that young groom. So, I took out a dead man’s teeth and remolded it so you don’t get into any trouble as you did! So, feel free to use it''

I hope that you didn’t fall off your seat after reading that last sentence.

That model teeth the undertaker brought to the meeting reminds me of the power of examples and for that matter groom speech examples.

As you are pretty much aware, where you are in life today is a result of the positive influences other people have had on you over the years.

Similarly, very good groom speech examples play a key role in the kind of groom wedding speech you will end up writing.

That notwithstanding, most grooms see examples they find online and simply make changes and use it to shower praises on their wives.

While there’s nothing wrong with that, it often takes away the shine out of most presentations as a lot of grooms swipe the content and style of the templates they find without making the needed adjustments to suit their taste.

The bride, your family, and friends will be counting on you to give a heartfelt and touching speech and I am going to show you how you can make the most of groom speech examples so you can easily and quickly write a great speech even if you have a few days to the wedding or you are going to get married to her in the years ahead.

Ready? Let’s go on by first looking at…

What You Have To Do Before You Even Write Your Groom Speech Toast

To get good ideas, you first have to put yourself in the mood for the proper expression of your thoughts.

Video clips about groom speeches always provide an important jumpstart for this purpose and there are several examples on video sharing sites like youtube.com and other channels you can watch for a fair idea of how your toast will flow.

So, this is what I want you to do now. Go over to that platform and pop into the search box: groom speech examples, groom speech samples or templates.

Then, flip through the search results and watch a couple of them. As you do, write down words and phrases and jokes you would like to add to yours.

By the way, here are two sweet groom speech examples you can watch and learn from.

Video # 2

I hope those clips made your day. We are not done yet.

That said, let’s carefully examine this well-written example, and then we will break it down bit by bit so we can figure out what went into writing the whole thing.

Action Tip: Read through the whole thing carefully and put down sentiments that strike a chord with you and see if you can somehow insert them into your own groom's speech.

First,

This Is The Entire Groom Speech Sample For You.

I want to thank you all for coming to support us.

To my dad, my mom, and my friends and to everyone we are extremely honored to have you here.

A wise man said that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and I got to understand this statement better when Janet and I met for our first date at a Port-Au-Prince Restaurant after our first encounter on a dating site.

I couldn’t go to work that day and I used my free time to search for that website.

For some strange reason, I never found a profile that matched my interests but I was determined not to give up even though I had been at it for close to four hours.

Feeling exhausted, I decided to close the web browser and that’s when a picture popped up on the screen.

I decided to look into this and I surprisingly found that she and I had similar interests. My monthly subscription had expired and when I did renew it, I discovered that our goals and dreams were very much aligned.

There and then, I had this feeling that she might be the one my heart had been looking for all these years.

As our friendship blossomed, I was struck by her beauty, wit, exuding warmth, and infectious personality and I really enjoyed every single moment I ever spent with her, and couldn’t imagine living without her.

Best of all, I found out that she was a girl version of me and we had similar tastes.

We both loved to drive the same cars and support the same football team! I still remember how she would come over to watch me play and yell get off him whenever I got tackled!

We also liked dressing the same. If I was wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, she would be wearing the same thing just different shoes.  People often thought we were twins and I have lost count of the many times' people asked curiously if we were siblings whenever we went shopping.

Well, once it dawned on me that she was going to be the one I was going to live with for the rest of my life, I just had to convince her of that fact; and as you can imagine this is no easy feat for most guys.

So, while in Haiti, I asked her to join me on a walk on a beautiful sunrise at Lana Beach.

You know Janet is not an early riser and asking her to come over at that time of the day wasn’t an easy task at all. I had to cajole her to come along with me.

After a romantic walk down the beach, I got down on one knee and with my heart pounding like crazy, I took her hand and proposed to her.

I felt a bit faint-and thought she’d change her mind and run the other way. But, she just smiled and agreed to marry me.

I breathed a big sigh of relief! I felt like I had just won a marathon in record time.

Janet, thanks so much for agreeing to marry me. You mean the world to me and I also know deep down within my heart I mean the world to you.

When I first met you, you took my breadth-and my brains away. Far away…

When I first met you I thought I loved you but I want you to know that I love you more on this beautiful day than I've ever loved you.

A woman who is as beautiful as you is hard to find. I never knew what was missing in my life until I found you and am so thankful for the tremendous changes you have brought into my life and I promise to be that husband you’ve always dreamed about.

We are about to set sail on both calm and rough waters but I want to reassure you that I will love you to the very end even if the storms of life threaten our joy and peace.

With you, I know that our future will be bright as ever since you are someone I can always count on.

A woman as beautiful as you delight the eye, a woman as wise as you refresh the heart.

A woman as pure as you are satisfies the soul.

I am proud to let you know that you delight my eye; you refresh my heart and satisfy my soul.

You always remind me of what your parents tell you that for better or for worse is a joint responsibility.

Yes, have a shared responsibility to uphold our vows no matter what happens and we will make it through life no matter what happens.

If our parents have made it after all these years, we can too.  So, let’s live every day of our lives very mindful of why we came together in the first place so we can love each other until the end of time.

Janet, I love you fiercely and I promise to hold your hands through sunshine and storm.

Did you learn a thing or two from that groom's wedding speech example?

Wedding speech by the groom to the bride

Here’s How To Structure Your Groom Speech

As I am sure you know by now, every groom's speech sample has these elements: the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Well, I want to show you how to write the content of your speech and we can only accomplish that by splitting it into parts so we can create a good outline for your draft groom speech.

First, let’s look at how to craft the opening lines of your speech using that example as a guide.

Let’s re-look at the introduction.

''I want to thank you all for coming to support us.

To my dad, my mom, and my friends, and to everyone we are extremely honored to have you here.''

The opening lines have the power to break the ice and you should put in the effort to make it worth hearing.

Wondering how you can do that? Ok, I would help.

There are essentially two parts of the introduction: self-introduction and greetings and expression of gratitude which falls in line with the ritual or etiquette of speaking at wedding ceremonies.

In that example, the groom expressed gratitude to those who were present and went on to thank his parents and in-laws.

You have to do the same thing too by including the following useful pointers:

  • Even if you are introduced by the wedding emcee, you should have to let the guests know who you are and your relationship with the bride.
  • Then thank your parents (mom and dad), in-laws, best man, bridesmaid, etc.

If your own parents or parents in law are not alive, you still have to say thank you to them this way.

''Even though my mom and dad are no longer with us, I know they are looking down at us and so proud of where Anita and I have gotten to.''

You may adapt this if you are paying tribute to your deceased parents-in-law.

Now, let me ask you this: which individuals have been a blessing in your life you really want to say thank you to? Write their names on paper and state why you are thanking them.

  • Have you ever thought about singing your opening lines to the beat of a well-known song? If you do this, your speech will be a hit and you will be respected, loved, and admired by everyone for your stellar performance.

How to write your groom speech

I mentioned that we have two parts of the introduction: a&b. Having looked at the first part, let’s examine what the second format entails.

Again, here’s an excerpt

''A wise man said that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and I got to understand this statement better…''

There's an old saying that you never have a second chance to make a first impression…so why not start with a great intro since that will hook the wedding attendees on your speech from start to finish?

How To Use Groom Speech Templates To Write A Memorable Introduction

There are several ways to shake up the room and you may start with any of these bullet points:

  • You can begin with a quote as you’ve seen above.
  • You may start with a joke about marriage or love
  • You can make fun of the bride in a non-embarrassing way
  • The simplest way is to kick start with a story of how you met….But starting with a love quote and continuing it with your love story.

Here’s a shining example of this model in action

This is the quote:  Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.

How the couple met: We first met at Manly Beach two years ago.

When we combine the two ideas, we get this short and sweet example.  Please take note of the fusion.

Ok, here we go:

Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love binds two lives and hearts together and makes them feel a sense of completeness.

That’s exactly what Janet and I have experienced since we met and became best friends.

We first met two years ago at Manly Beach and I knew right away that I had found Mrs. Right

We clicked right off the bat and I vividly remember holding her hands after we had danced together and said to her, Janet, I will look after you.

Did you see how I did that? I recommend that you toe that line too if you want to do a sentimental groom speech.

By the way, here are quotes from movies and other personalities you can use to enrich your message.

  • "Once upon a time, there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering." -Nicole Krauss, The History of Love
  • "Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, only with what you are expecting to give which is everything." -Katharine Hepburn, actress
  • "Deep in my soul I know that I'm your destiny." -Raven-Symoné, "True To Your Heart" from Mulan
  • "Two hearts can enlighten the whole world." -Sir Kristian Goldmund Aumann, Austrian author, and filmmaker
  • "Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength While loving someone deeply gives you courage." — Lao Tzu
  • "And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you." — Kiersten White, The Chaos of Stars

Now, let’s see how to put your scrambled thoughts together into a very meaningful speech.

How To Create The Outline Of Your Groom Speech Toast

As we always do before commenting, let’s take a look at parts of the body of that example to guide us every step of the way.

Below is part of the structure.

I met for our first date at a Port-Au-Prince Restaurant after our first encounter on a dating site.

I couldn’t go to work that day and I used my free time to search for that website.  For some strange reason, I never found a profile that matched my interests but I was determined not to give up even though I had been at it for close to four hours….’’

If you go back to read the whole speech or just this extract, you will notice that the story is a continuation of what we saw when discussing the elements of part (b) of our introductory remarks.

To come up with ideas that really stand out, you need to first develop a layout for your message and provide relevant and interesting anecdotes to back it up.

For example, you can simply create this outline for your draft.

  • Where and when you first met?
  • What were the early years of dating?
  • What happened as your relationship blossomed?
  • When did it occur to you that she will be your wife?
  • How she’s helped make you a better person since you became best friends

Okay, I want to help you here, so let me use ‘’ Where and when you first met?’’ to illustrate.

Groom speech example

For that, you can scribble key points like

  • Where you met
  • What you were doing there before you met
  • Who introduced the bride to you?
  • Was it love at first sight or it took some time?
  • What did you notice about her that drew you close to her? Her smile? Her hair? Her kindness? What is it?

Your assignment: Grab your computer. A sheet of paper and pen is fine and do a little brainstorming and write answers to the questions I have just asked.

Pour out whatever is in your mind without worrying about how well it flows because you can always go back to it and make the needed changes.

You have already done that right? Well, that’s not the end of the story.

Having been together for a few years, you should put down why you love her.

Let me ask you this: can you list the reasons why you love the bride? Ok, put down at least four reasons….To give you an idea, you can say she’s kind, loving, etc, or tell everyone why you think she is going to be an amazing wife and mom. If she’s already a mom, let them know and compliment her sincerely for being a great mom.

Then, you share with the guests why you complement each other. Try injecting humor into your piece by stating why you are polar opposites.

This is a short groom speech example:

There are so many things I love about being with Janet. Most notably, she does the cooking, cleaning, shopping, and laundry. We all know that being domestic is not one of my giftings. But I promise to adapt quickly and learn from her so she doesn’t work overtime like a wall clock!

Don’t worry too much about the length of your groom's speech as you write because it doesn’t matter how long or short your speech is.

As long as you have captured every detail you want to present in a very engaging manner, no one will complain about the duration of your groom's toast.

Either way, make sure your story doesn’t sound very dull like a joke gone bad.

I guess we have covered a lot of ground already in understanding what goes into the storyline of your script.

So, now, let’s see

How To Write The Closing Lines Of Your Groom Speech

Once again, here’s a brief snippet of our groom speech example…

''Yes, have a shared responsibility to uphold our vows no matter what happens and we will make it through life no matter what happens.

If our parents have made it after all these years, we can too.  So, let’s live every day of our lives very mindful of why we came together in the first place so we can love each other until the end of time.

Janet, I love you fiercely and I promise to hold your hands through sunshine and storm.''

That’s the end of it. Now, let’s see how to write something similar to that if not better.

Let me start by saying this: you only one chance to close your speech on a memorable and that’s often what the wedding guests will remember most. So, do all you can to finish well.

Thankfully, there a lot of time-tested ideas that you can use to end with a bang and I am very happy to share a few tips and ideas with you.

  • First, if you and the bride are very religious or are Christians, you can use portions of scripture to close on a strong note and any of the following bible quotes can work even if you are not a believer. To know how, please read on.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life

Proverbs 18:22:  ‘’He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”

James 1:17: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

1 John 4: 18-19: There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

Ephesians 5: 21-25:

  1. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.

Do you realize how I infused the underlined words into the short example below?

''I love you, Janet, and I know that God has ordained this love to be forever.

For many years, I have prayed and waited for someone like you because I knew from the bottom of my heart that a godly man deserves a virtuous wife.

Out of the blue, you came into my life and I remember how I shed tears of joy when I realized that you were the one.

You complement me and I know without a shadow of a doubt that together we will be vessels for His service in accordance with His plan so that in all areas of our life Christ will have the pre-eminence.

Through the constant pressures of the present and the uncertainties of the future, I promise to be faithful to you and only you.

I promise to fiercely love, guide, and protect you as Christ does His Church, and as long as we both are alive.

I promise to show to you the same kind of love as Christ showed the Church when He died for her, and to love you as a part of myself because in His sight we are one and will be one until the end of time.

  • Second, there’s nothing wrong with using your vows for the conclusion of your speech. In that example, the groom spoke these words to the bride:

''Janet, I love you fiercely and I promise to hold your hands through sunshine and storm.''

Action Tip: Sit down and write at least three serious vows you want to make to the bride. Don’t make it too funny.

  • Third, you may end with a touching or lovely poem about the bride.
  • Fourth, if you have a beautiful voice, then you should, by all means, sing it and you will be applauded for that.
  • Also, you can surprise your wife with a lovely gift. It may be something she keeps asking for or something she really loves. But make sure you tie it to the theme of your speech.

For example, you can frame your vows or promises and present it to her. When hard times come, she would let you know about it and I am sure that would keep you on your toes.

  • Additionally, you can share what you look forward to in the future as you share your lives and love together and wrap up with a toast.
