Short Mother of The Groom Speech Tips And Ideas

How To Effortlessly Get The Right Words And Ideas That Will Help You Write A Short And Sweet Mother Of The Groom Speech!

Believe it or not, giving a very beautiful speech that will get you lots of compliments and make you respected and admired is not really hard.

The truth of the matter is that giving a speech many would describe as beautiful depends on the presentation skills of the mother who has to speak.

Mother of the groom speeches very short

It’s not always a matter of putting together the good words. You can write a not too great wedding speech but if you know how to entertain the wedding guests, then you will be the star of the show.

Never ever forget that.

There was this time we helped a certain mom give the best speech even though the information she gave me was rather uninspiring and scanty and I remember thinking how on earth are we going to help her achieve her speaking goals.

Obviously, she was not the detailed type and it was just left with a few days to the wedding, so we could understand her plight.

But that didn’t deter us.

We wrote for her a few lines and asked her to dramatize certain parts of her speech and that helped her give one of the best speeches at her son’s wedding.

To write a unique and memorable speech, you have to get the right words and ideas to help you put down your exact thoughts and emotions into beautiful words.

I know you might be wondering how to do that fast and easy because you’re probably not a writer.

You really don’t have to be a writer to come up with the good words, but you have to know how to get the right words and ideas and use them to say what’s on your heart.

How To Get The Right Words

Thanks to the following ideas, finding the right words should be a breeze.

Put Down Any Funny Incident That Comes To Mind

Do you recall the last time you really had a good laugh? What made you giggle?
Can you guess what that was? Did the person crack a joke? Or did that person tell a funny story?

Pause for a moment and reflect on what the person said or did to tickle your laughing rib: it could have been at your workplace, during childhood, at birthday parties or weddings, or at school, and so on.

You just have to walk down memory lane to get them. They’re tucked up there in your brain.

Just sit still and put down memories you have accumulated of your son growing up or mom-son experiences you remember.

Jot down as many ideas that come to you as they will help you refine your speech. Don’t mind if tens of thousands of such reflections hit your brain, you’ve got to write them down because you never know which of those thoughts will help you compose your message in the long run.

You can write down events like:

  • The day he was born and how you felt…don’t dwell on the negatives
  • How the early years were like
  • How he was like when he was a toddler and several others

Funny Quotes Can Help You

Besides adding anecdotes, you can also work with quotes.

You can read as many quotes as you like.

You shouldn’t read only those quotes that are only based on love but quotes on a wide range of issues.

The mind has a funny way of gleaning insights from quotations that are not even connected with the themes of marriage and love.

I consult them a lot when I am writing speeches for my clients because they really inspire me to come up with new ideas, particularly when I am stuck in the writing process.

                                                       Wedding speeches for mom

Now, let’s look at a few of them and how we can use some of those quotes to write.

''Marriage has no guarantees. If that’s what you’re looking
for, go live with a car battery''- Emma Bombeck

''Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your heart
or burn down your house you can never tell''-Joan Crawford

"You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by
learning to see an imperfect person perfectly." - Sam Keen

''Marriage is like a public toilet; those waiting outside are desperate to
get in and those inside are desperate to come out.''- Unknown

''Marriage is like a toothache. The only difference is that if you visit the
the dentist or try pulling out your own teeth you might end up pulling the whole thing out''

''Daughters are like flowers, they fill the world with beauty, and
sometimes attract pests.''-Unknown

''Your daughter is the wealthiest woman if her husband listens to her''-Jean Daniel

''The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paw the ground, snorts, runs, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says. Daddy, I need to ask you something,’’ he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan. ''-Gregory Keillor

Please note: These are quotations by various authors and other celebrities. You don’t have to use them as you see. But you can extract something from it by rephrasing them as I said.

Take this example ''Marriage is like a toothache ''

Let’s see how to be creative with that quote.

Example 1

Tim, I can see you are feeling so excited and that really warms my heart but as you and I have experienced over the years, you both will go through your own rough patches and that will make you feel as though you’re pulling your own tooth out.

Know that such difficult times won’t last.  They are meant to test your vows but
you will be on the losing side if you fight the battles of life alone but you will win if you fight those battles with your wife since two united hearts can overcome all trials.

I hope you got the picture? Did you notice how we used that we worked that underlined word or quote into the short example?

Use Jokes

If you’re going to use jokes or stories, make sure they’re connected to the theme of your speech.

Don’t use them if they are not very funny else there will be no impact at all.

That reminds me of a time I wrote a speech for a woman who said her child wasn’t good looking at birth but still want to include that story despite my objections.

The moral? Any joke you use shouldn’t embarrass the groom or couple…

Well, I listened to her and came up with a very creative way to present that and she told me that was the main highlight of her mom of the groom's wedding speech.

Watch Mother Of The Groom Speech Videos For Ideas

Just look up  ''mother wedding speeches videos'' in the search engines and see hundreds pop up.

Now, sit back, watch a few and write down any expression that makes you laugh or smile and see if you can make it part of your speech.

By the way, you can hit the play button in this beautiful video as it will inspire you to come up with good ones.

Sometimes, you don’t have to restrict yourself to mother's speech videos, you can go for the father of the groom, bride, groom, father of the bride, and so on and you will find lots of ideas to help you write.

What should you include in your mother of the groom speech

Watch Wedding Movies Or Use Wedding Movie Quotes

Phrases and expressions in wedding movies too can help a lot. Please make sure you make time to watch them.

Once again, any idea that pops up in your head should be creatively used to make your speech unique.

Here are a few quotes from movies you can use.

  1. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.” ~ Moulin Rouge
  2. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” ~ When Harry Met Sally
  3. “I wanted it to be you, I wanted it to be you so badly.” ~ You’ve Got Mail
  4. “Here’s looking at you kid.” ~ Casablanca
  5. “I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love.” ~ The Vow
  6. “They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that’s true.” ~ Big Fish
  7. “Life is not the amount of breaths you take; it’s the moments that take your breath away.” ~ Hitch

Suppose you want to use any of these to write a few memorable lines, this is how I would go about it:

I love quote 1: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.” ~ Moulin Rouge

Mark, the greatest thing you will ever learn is to love Amanda and be loved in return...That will bring out the best in you and help you live a happier life…

Use Similes And Metaphors To Your Best Advantage

The use of similes and metaphors play a crucial role in the writing and giving of
great wedding speeches.

Have you ever read a book where the writer described the characters or scene so
well that you could see the characters moving here and there in your mind?
If you have, then it’s because these ''identical twins-similes and metaphors''
might have been used.

For instance, let’s see how we can transform the following sentences into
something entertaining using both similes and metaphors.

An Example: When I met her for the first time, I was pleasantly electrified
There’s nothing wrong with that.

But we can add some power to it by changing it  to:

When I met Grace, my daughter- in -law for the first time, her grace,
beauty, and humility fell on me like the first rain of spring. This sounds funny but Mark tells me that when she met her for the first time, he felt like an electric current running throughout his body…

Noticed any difference when we inject it with a simile?

How about this example?

I could see from the contented look in my son’s eye that he was deeply in love when she brought her home.  And I remember Mark telling me that when Anita thought he heard bells as if it were a garbage truck backing up.

I think by now you can write something meaningful out of similes right?

Take twenty minutes no longer than that to write something using similes. Can you try? I’m waitiiiiiiiiiiiing. Ok. STOP WORK! TIME IS UP!

Did you begin with ''When I spoke with Anita for the first time......'' or  ''anytime
two persons are in love......''

If you started with any of these and more...congratulations! You’re a great woman! You’re not done yet though!

For these literary to achieve the desired effect, you should connect it to the theme of your speech and it should be something the guests can relate to.

Here are a few similes and metaphors you can use to spiff up your presentation.

As bald as a newborn babe-Anonymous

As supportive as a good recline-Anonymous
She was as stiff and unyielding as a lawn chair-Anonymous

Sweet as the last smile of sunset.—Edwin Arnold
Sweet as the voice of a mountain brook—Arthur Simons

What about telling your son and the wedding guests about her (your daughter-in-law) character?

Let’s look at this example

I have found Anita to be stiff and unyielding as a lawn chair and this is the part of her I wish I had. She’s very caring. The last time Mike fell sick for a month she very supportive like a sturdy good recliner...

Mike, I want to tell you that you have not found a woman you really love but someone who fits you like a glove.
