Two Kinds Of Mother Of The Bride Speech Examples You Need To Use

Let me start by saying that there are two main kinds of mother of the bride speech examples:

  • Mother of the bride speech videos
  • Well-crafted mother of the bride speeches

Shall we break each of them down with crystal-clear wedding examples? Ok. Let’s start by outlining them.

  • Mother of the bride speech videos

Watching mother of the bride speech videos before you actually craft your toast is beneficial for two reasons:

  • Watching video examples can provide inspiration and guidance as you are able to figure out how other moms made their daughters proud on their wedding day.

Wedding speech by mother of the bride

  • Watching how others deliver their speeches can boost your self-confidence as you are able to develop a more positive mindset regarding your preparation and speech delivery.

That being said, let’s look at two video examples to get you inspired:

Heartfelt Mother Of The Bride Speech Video Sample

I hope you have enjoyed watching both clips and took a few ideas from watching them. That brings me to the other example: the written word sample.

Let me start by sharing with you this short but sweet mother of the bride example to help you write the best speech at the wedding reception or bridal shower.

After we’ve read through it, we will analyze it so you can figure out what goes into writing one and how to script your thoughts and ideas together to create a fun and heartfelt mother of the bride toast for your beloved daughter.

Here you go:

Mother Of The Bride Speech Example

Good evening and welcome, everyone.

I’m Alberta, Eugenia’s mom and it gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish my daughter and the entire family.

We have waited for months for this special time and would like to thank everyone, who has come from far and near to share in our joy and happiness.

Twenty-six (26) years ago, when Eugenia, our precious little gem was born, we were the proudest parents on earth.

Watching her grow and mature like a flower in bloom as the years whizzed by was my greatest joy ever.

I still remember her first day in school when she got off the car and ran to her class and held the hand of her teacher as though she had known her, her whole life. She called her teacher ‘’Aunt Six.’’

I later got to know she called her by that name because the first thing she saw when she entered the class was the number 6 written boldly on the chalkboard and thought that was her name. That teacher later became known as Mrs. 6 throughout the school and she loved her nickname.

Today, I stand here in front of you today, the proudest mom that ever lived because she’s made me so proud every step of the way. Eugenia, being your mom is a joy and privilege and I want you to know I love you so much.

But, it’s always been my hope and prayer that you would find someone to love and care for the rest of your life. When Dan walked into your life, I knew you had met the man of your dreams and I’m so excited that you’re getting married today.

And to you Dan, we are so thankful that you brought her to the altar. We are blessed that you now are a part of our family and we know you’re going to be an amazing dad.

Dan and Eugenia, you’re a very beautiful couple. You both were made to experience each other’s love so you can be truly blessed.

As you start life, always love each other, put each other’s needs first, and always work as a team and you will have a long, happy life together.

My wish for you both is throughout your life together; you will walk hand in hand no matter the storms you face.

God bless you and I wish you the very best.

Mother of the bride speech for daughter

Did you enjoy reading it? I did! I chuckled when I read this part: ''called her Aunt Six. I later got to know she called by her that name because she saw the number 6 on the chalkboard.''

Guess what? Writing a mother of the bride speech does come with a flood of emotions and you need them to help you think straight and find the right words to help you write a fun and heartfelt mother of the bride wedding speech. How do you that?

Well, I am going to break down the above examples step-by-step so you can write a good mother of the bride speech without breaking a sweat.

This comes next:

How To Get The Most Out Of Mother Of The Bride Speech Examples

To make the most of the above speech example, here’s what I recommend you do before you think of writing your script.

First, I recommend that you go back and read through that sample.

You may give it a second and even a third read and write down ideas that come to you. Then, ask yourself if you can somehow incorporate those ideas into your own speech. But, you don’t have to copy word for word every word or phrase you find without personalizing it for your writing needs.

Second, you've to get a style for your speech because the above speech example is in the voice of another writer. It is wrong to copy the speaking style of a famous figure you admire as your speech will not sound authentic.

Other styles to choose from are emotional, witty, sarcasm, narrative, dramatic, or a blend of two or more styles.

For example, if you are a funny person, then a humorous speech for your daughter will be your best course of action.

It is wrong to copy the speaking style of a famous figure you admire since your speech will not sound authentic. Other styles to choose from are emotional, witty, sarcasm, narrative, dramatic, or a blend of these or more styles.

Banner_3_062052 (1)

In addition to that, you have to determine the theme and tone of your speech. Here are a few questions to help you come up with them. By reflecting on these questions, you will be able to develop a clear tone and theme for your mother of the bride speech that is both personal and meaningful.

Tone:

  • Are there any specific emotions or sentiments you want to express in your mother of the bride speech?
  • How do you want your family and friends to feel during and after your speech?

Theme:

  • What are your hopes and dreams for the couple’s/daughter’s future together?
  • What are some of your favorite memories or stories about your daughter’s childhood, accomplishment, growth or relationship?
  • What makes you proud of your daughter, and how can you express that pride in your speech?

You may find it very helpful to write down your answers to the above questions to help you come up with the right memories. Let’s look at how to do just that.

What are your hopes and dreams for the couple’s/daughter’s future together?

Answer:  My hope and prayer is that they work as a team no matter what life throws at them so they can look back on this day with pride and feel eternally grateful for tying the knot.

What are some of your favorite memories or stories about your daughter’s childhood, accomplishment, growth or relationship?

Answer:  Whether she was playing soccer, running track, or even leading her cheerleading squad, Alexa was always a fearless force to reckon with.

You may also write down memories like how you felt when she was born, funny memories you still have in mind and her accomplishments.  I remember that I once asked a mother of the bride if she wanted to include at least three of her daughter's key accomplishments in a toast we both worked on and she agreed to that.

Another mom objected to that even though her daughter was a force to reckon in and outside the school environment.

Well, if you’re the ''bragging'' type but don’t want to make her accomplishments too obvious, you can render it like this:

''By dint of hard work and dedication, Mary accomplished so much wherever she found herself and brought such joy to hearts...Mary, we are so proud of you and thus far you have come down the road''

Do you notice how I said that without drawing attention to her sterling credentials?

While there’s nothing wrong with adding her personal details, I personally feel that your mom of the bride wedding speech should be a tool for highlighting the unique attributes or character of your daughter because that’s what the guests want to hear from you and not a catalog of accomplishments per se.

The answers you have penned down in response to those questions (earlier) asked above will help you not only put your message together but it will also provide a clear direction for your mother of the bride speech.

That brings me to the next chapter of this post:

How To Write A Wedding Speech For Your Daughter Using Mother Of The Bride Speech Examples

Let me start by saying that there are three core components of every speech. They comprise these essential elements:

Introduction

Body

Conclusion remarks

Let’s break down each step with examples drawn from the above example.

Let us look at portions of the introduction to guide us along the way.

''Good evening and welcome everyone. I’m Alberta, Eugenia’s mom and it gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish my daughter and the entire family. ''

After you have got all your facts right and ready, you should start with a gripping opener  as it has the power to break the ice and engage the wedding guests on a personal level.

Your opening remarks should have the following elements: a short self-presentation while stating your relationship with the bride and groom. Don’t assume everyone knows who you are even if you have been introduced by the master of ceremonies.

Besides, mother of the bride speech etiquette demands you do so. Let me ask you. Will you meet someone for the first time without letting them know who you are? I don’t think so.

By the way, here’s how to get it done:

''For those of you who are not lucky enough to know me, I am Susie, the mom of the bride''

  • Greetings and expression of gratitude

If you want to make your speech hilarious, you can start by saying: ''Hello. If you are wondering who this woman is, then I am the lovely mom of the bride. Right by my side is my husband who happens to be my only loving, supportive and permanent boyfriend of the last 40 years! ''

Please note: If your husband or the father of the bride is deceased, you may mention it and pay special tribute to him if you want to sound a bit emotional.

Though I personally don’t subscribe to that, most mothers I have worked with before are comfortable with this approach. If you think you might break down in tears, then you don't have to do it.

However, if you raised your daughter as a single mom or parent, don’t use your speech for settling personal scores no matter how hurt you are.

Rather, use it as a platform for healing and peace since wedding celebrations are meant to unite and bring people together in love.

Here’s another thing I would like you to know about writing and delivering mother of the bride speeches. If you are still married to her dad, then it’s best to do a joint father and mother of the bride wedding speech and your speech will be unique and memorable.

There is another aspect of the introduction most mothers miss. We writers call it the hook. The hook is that opening line that draws your listeners into your speech. There are a couple of ways to do that.

First, you can start with a quote like this one:

A Mother’s love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,

It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .

It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .

It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .

It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .

A many splendored miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God’s tender guiding hand.

—HELEN STEINER RICE

Does that quote really speak to your heart? Can you use parts of that touching quote to write a captivating hook? Ok, here’s how I will do that with parts of it to write a short emotional hook:

My love for Susanna has always been deep. It is made of deep devotion and sacrifice. It is something that is hard to put down in words and I am forever grateful to God that he brought her into my life.

I am sure lines touched your heart on a personal level and brought back fond memories of the years you have spent with your daughter, right?

Second, you can start with a little story like this one:

When Martha was a little girl, we used to call her The Turtle Ginger Lady. Here’s why she earned this infamous nickname.

Don’t you think the wedding crowd will be eager to hear why she got that nickname and what really happened to her?

The body comes after the introduction. So, let’s look at…

How To Use Mother Of The Bride Speech Examples To Write The Body Of Your Toast

Once again, here are excerpts of the mother of the bride speech sample to steer us in the right direction.

''Twenty-six (26) years ago, when Eugenia, our precious little gem was born, we were the proudest parents on earth.

Watching her grow and mature like a flower in bloom as the years whizzed by was my greatest joy ever.  I still remember her first day in school when she got off the car and run to her class and held the hand of her teacher as though she had known her, her whole life and called her Aunt Six''

If you go back and read the above extract, you will notice that it tells a story from when she was born until she blossomed into an adult. Guess what?  The body is usually a story of your daughter’s life and the kind of woman she’s grown up to be.

To write the body of your speech, you have to brainstorm a few stories from her childhood through adulthood and pick one or two anecdotes that you would like to add to your wedding speech for your daughter.

You might add other extra tidbits like:

  • Why you are happy that she’s getting married
  • You can also mention how proud you are of her

Additionally, you can go ahead to put down some ideas about the groom. Ideas like:

  • Your first impressions of him when you first met him
  • His admirable traits
  • Why he’s a lucky guy
  • An anecdote about him

Here's an example of what to say about the groom:

Amanda, you are so lucky to have such a loyal friend.  Dan is a smart guy! While I’m singing his praises, let me add that he is thoughtful, polite, respectful towards the elderly, and a problem-solver of the highest order.

Perhaps best of all, he’s very easy on the eyes, isn’t he? I’m pretty sure my daughter thinks so! I think they look darn good together, and I’m betting that Amanda has put in an order for their first child (someday) to look like an angel!

Now, let’s see…

How To Write A Memorable Conclusion With Mother Of The Bride Speech Examples

Here are Alberta’s closing remarks:

''My wish for you both is throughout your life together; you will walk hand in hand no matter the storms you face. God bless you and I wish you the very best.''

Banner_5_062042

There are a couple of other ways of closing with a bang other than what you have just seen. Below are a few of them:

First, you may share any marital advice you have for the bridal couple

Here’s an example:

‘‘A best friend is someone you laugh with, dream with, and love with all your heart. From this moment on, you are eternal partners and you’re responsible for each other’s happiness. So, don’t stop laughing and making each other happy and you will look back on this day with a thankful and grateful heart”

Second, you can end with your best wishes as well as what your hopes and dreams are for the happy couple as they start a life together.

Here are a few best-wishes you may use:

I hope you enjoy all of the pleasures that togetherness brings in life. May your life hereafter be filled with happiness and delights. God bless you

- As this journey of yours begins, I wish you a life full of happiness and love. May every day you spend together, be even better than the previous one. Congratulations!

- May the bond you share as husband and wife grow stronger each day the two of you spend together. Congratulations!

- As the season's change and the cycle of coldness and warmth continue through the years. May your household grow bigger and your love grow stronger.

-Wishing you lots of love and happiness together. May every day of your life hereafter hold wonderful shared experiences.

Third, if you are a Christian or a devoted believer, you can use a few bible verses to enrich your mother of the bride speech closing remarks.

You may use this one from I Corinthians 13: 1-8

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9

You may also use this as a prayer or benediction to wrap up: Numbers 6: 24-26

24 “‘“The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace.”’

Inaddition to that, you may use one of these quotes to make your conclusion memorable:

“May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, The sunshine warm upon your face, The rain fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.”– Irish blessing

“May their joys be as deep as the ocean, And their misfortunes as light as the foam.” – Armenian Blessing

How about ending with this poem?

Marriage is More Marriage is more than standing here side by side,

Exchanging looks full of love, full of pride.

It’s more than the ceremony, which lasts just a while,

It’s a promise that’s shared, it’s an intimate smile.

It’s a personal bond that you know will not end,

The knowledge that someone your love will defend.

It’s a vow of commitment, special and true,

It’s a hope and a dream of love endless for you.
