Mother of the bride speech samples and how to use them to put together a memorable and beautiful speech for your daughter on her wedding day

M3

Is the thought of giving a very touching mother of the bride speech for your daughter driving you nuts?

Don't worry because  you can now use mother of the bride speech samples to easily write a short and sweet speech that will earn you the trust and respect of the wedding guests

But first, let's look at this quote:

''A mother’s love lasts forever'', says a renowned philosopher

A Mother's love is something that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it or take that love away''- Helen Steiner Ricet

Does that quote really speak to your heart? I hope so.

Mother of the bride speech for daughter

Helen’s quote reminds me of the love every mother has for their daughter and that really magnifies as your precious daughter is all set to tie the knot with that special person she can’t live without.

Despite all the efforts moms like you expend to ensure that their daughter’s big day becomes a blast, most mothers fail woefully to give their mother of the bride speeches in a very touching way possible and I can’t put the blame on anyone because most moms are not gifted with words and they have to really try so hard to find the good and inspiring words that will make their daughter's proud.

You see, you and the rest of your family have gone through a whole lot to make your daughter who she really is today, so when it comes to finding the right words and ideas to use, you shouldn’t leave it to chance at all.

Your mom of the bride speech has to be unique and memorable and you have to thank your lucky stars because

Mother of the bride speech samples have proven over and over again to help every caring and loving mom say what they really want to say admirably. Finding such examples, however, doesn’t mean your speech will be as perfect as you want it.

By investing a little time and effort, you may tweak any sample you find to help you write the best ever mother of the bride toast at the wedding of your daughter and son-in-law.

You see, very good examples (like those in the videos below) contain several speech examples, ideas, wedding jokes, and toasts you can model your speech after.

So this is what I suggest you do right now. Get your journal and pen and write down tips and ideas you think can help you write your mother of the bride wedding toast as you watch these video clips.

I hope you have enjoyed watching both clips.

By the way, here’s a short but sweet example to help you make the best speech at the wedding reception or bridal shower.

Here you go:

Mother Of The Bride Speech Example/Template

Good evening and welcome, everyone.

I’m Alberta, Eugenia’s mom and it gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish my daughter and the entire family.

We have waited for months for this special time and would like to thank everyone, who has come from far and near to share in our joy and happiness.

Twenty-six (26) years ago, when Eugenia, our precious little gem was born, we were the proudest parents on earth.

Watching her grow and mature like a flower in bloom as the years whizzed by was my greatest joy ever.

I still remember her first day in school when she got off the car and run to her class and held the hand of her teacher as though she had known her, her whole life and even called her Aunt Six. I later got to know she called by her that name because she saw the number 6 on the chalkboard.

Today, I stand here in front of you today, the proudest mom that ever lived because she’s made me so proud every step of the way. Eugenia, being your mom is a joy and privilege and I want you to know I love you so much.

But, it’s been my prayer that you find someone to love and care for the rest of your life. When Dan walked into your life, I knew you had met the man of your dreams and I’m so excited that you’re getting married today.

And to you Dan, we are so thankful that you brought her to the altar. We are blessed that you now are a part of our family and we know you’re going to be an amazing dad.

MARRIAGE ADVICE AND BEST WISHES

Dan and Eugenia, you’re a very beautiful couple. You both were made to experience each other’s love so you can be truly blessed.

As you start life, always love each other, put each other’s needs first, and always work as a team and you will have a long, happy life together.

My wish for you both is throughout your life together; you will walk hand in hand no matter the storms you face.

God bless you and I wish you the very best.

Did you enjoy reading it? I did! I chuckled when I read this part: ''called her Aunt Six. I later got to know she called by her that name because she saw the number 6 on the chalkboard.''

Proven And Easy Ways To Write A Beautiful Speech

Now, let us see how to make the most of it. This is what I recommend you do. You may scroll up this page and read through that short example carefully once more and make brief notes.

You may give it a second and even a third read and put down ideas you feel you want to use for your own speech without copying it word for word.

Doing that will implant the content into your subconscious mind, the style and structure of that mother of the bride speech, and yours will naturally flow when you eventually decide to write your own script.

Next, you have to determine the theme of your speech. To identify your theme, you should recollect memories of the great times you and your daughter have shared and put down as many ideas you can remember.

Memories like

  • How did you feel when she was born?
  • Put down childhood memories or what she was like when she was a little girl?
  • Next, write down funny memories you still recall
  • What were her teenage years like?
  • If she has certain accomplishments, and you feel like including it, please feel free to add it…you may avoid it if you don’t want to brag and focus more on the beautiful qualities that you believe will make her an amazing wife and mom

I can remember that I once asked a mother of the bride if she wanted to include at least three of her daughter's key accomplishments.

Wedding speech by mother of the bride

Well, another mom objected to that even though her daughter was a force to reckon with in school and outside of the classroom.

Well, if you’re the ''quiet'' type but still want to adopt the latter approach, then you can put it this way mildly if you don't want to provide exact details of what your daughter has achieved:

''By dint of hard work and dedication, Mary accomplished so much in school and brought such joy to hearts...Mary, we are so proud of you and thus far you have come down the road''

Do you notice how I said that without drawing attention to her sterling credentials?

While there’s nothing wrong with adding her personal details, I personally feel that the mom of the bride wedding speech should be a tool for highlighting the unique attributes of your daughter because that’s what the guests want to hear from you and not a catalog of accomplishments per se.

Those ideas you have penned down in response to those questions asked above will help you not only put your message together but it will also help you refine your speech as you begin to put your thoughts together in a logical and coherent manner.

Again, you've to get a style for your speech because the sample you have above is in the voice of another person. To make your own voice shine through your script, you have to ask yourself these questions.

''What kind of person am I?---Am I funny, thoughtful or sentimental.''

For example, if you are a funny person, then a humorous speech for your daughter will suit you best. Here's a perfect example.

It is wrong to copy the speaking style of a famous figure you admire since your speech will not sound authentic. Other styles to choose from are emotional, witty, sarcasm, narrative, dramatic, or a blend of these or more styles.

That said, let’s see how to write a sweet mother of the bride speech toast based on that simple example we saw at the outset.

Let us look at portions of the introduction to guide us along the way.

''Good evening and welcome everyone. I’m Alberta, Eugenia’s mom and it gives me great joy and honor to see the smiling faces of so many people who love and cherish my daughter and the entire family. ''

Your Speech Should Follow This Order

After you have got all your facts right and ready, you should start writing your mother of the bride speech. You should commence with an introduction-opener since it has the power to break the ice and engage the wedding guests on a personal level right from the start.
Speech for my daughter on her weddding day

The opening remarks should have the following elements:

  • a short self-presentation and your relationship to the bride, greetings,
    expression of gratitude
  • You have to talk about your relationship with your darling daughter…. Don’t assume everyone knows who you...besides, mother of the bride speech etiquette demands you do so

For example, you can do it this way.

''For those of you who are not lucky enough to know me, I am Susie, the mom of the bride''

Got it? There are other sweet and cute ways of introducing yourself.

If you want to make your speech hilarious, you can start by saying

''Hello and if you are wondering who this woman is, then I am the lovely mom of the bride, and right by my side is my husband who happens to be my only loving, supportive and permanent boyfriend of the last 30 years! ''

There are a couple of other things you can add to your introduction to make it sentimental.

  1. For example, if your husband or the father of the bride is deceased, you can mention that and pay special tribute to him if you want. Though I personally don’t subscribe to that, most mothers I have worked with are comfortable with that. If you think you might break down in tears, then you don't have to do it.

However, if you raise your daughter as a single mom or parent, don’t use your speech for settling personal scores no matter how hurt you are. Rather, use it as a platform for healing and peace since weddings are meant to unite and bring people together in love.

Well, if you are a happy couple and have been married for a very long time, then it’s best to do a joint father and mother of the bride wedding speech and your speech will be unique and memorable.

Well, let us see how to write the body of your message. Once again, excerpts of it to steer us in the right direction.

''Twenty-six (26) years ago, when Eugenia, our precious little gem was born, we were the proudest parents on earth.

Watching her grow and mature like a flower in bloom as the years whizzed by was my greatest joy ever.  I still remember her first day in school when she got off the car and run to her class and held the hand of her teacher as though she had known her, her whole life and called her Aunt Six''

After coming up with stories from her childhood through adulthood, you have to pick one or two that speaks to your heart and use it to drive your points home.

Other things to add to your storyline include:

  • Why you are happy that she’s getting married

Then, you can go ahead to put down some ideas about the groom like

  • Your first impressions of him
  • His admirable traits
  • Why he’s a lucky guy
  • An anecdote about him you find amusing

Here's an example of how to write something sweet about the groom.

Amanda, you are so lucky to have such a loyal friend. And besides that, he’s a smart guy! While I’m singing his praises, let me add that he is thoughtful, polite, respectful towards the elderly,  and a problem-solver of the highest order.

Perhaps best of all, he’s very easy on the eyes, isn’t he? I’m pretty sure my daughter thinks so! I think they look darn good together, and I’m betting that Amanda has put in an order for their first child (someday) to look like Angel!

Now, let’s see how to write a memorable conclusion as we saw in our template. Here are Alberta’s closing remarks:

''My wish for you both is throughout your life together; you will walk hand in hand no matter the storms you face. God bless you and I wish you the very best.''

M5

Even though that was a piece of short advice interspersed with best-wishes, there are a couple of other ways of closing with a bang.

  • You may share any marital advice you have for the bridal couple

Here’s an example:

‘‘A best friend is someone you laugh with, dream with, and love with all your heart. From this moment on, you are eternal partners and you’re responsible for each other’s happiness”

  • Then, you can add what your hopes and dreams are for them  as they start a life together or simply add your well-wishes as I showed you in that sample

Here are a few best-wishes you may use

I hope you enjoy all of the pleasures that togetherness brings in life. May your life hereafter be filled with happiness and delights. God bless you

- As this journey of yours begins, I wish you a life full of happiness and love. May every day you spend together, be even better than the previous one. Congratulations!

- May the bond you share as husband and wife grow stronger each day the two of you spend together. Congratulations!

- As the season's change and the cycle of coldness and warmth continue through the years. May your household grow bigger and your love grow stronger.

-Wishing you lots of love and happiness together. May every day of your life hereafter hold wonderful shared experiences.

  • If you are a Christian or a devoted believer, you can use a few bible verses to spice up your mother of the bride speech like this one from I Corinthians 13: 1-8:

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9

Don’t forget about your toast too…You may use either of these:

“May your love be like the misty rain, gentle coming in but flooding the river.” – Traditional African Blessing

“May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, The sunshine warm upon your face, The rain fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.”– Irish blessing

“May their joys be as deep as the ocean, And their misfortunes as light as the foam.” – Armenian Blessing

‘’Love is blind — marriage is the eye-opener.” – Pauline Thomason

“A good marriage is like a casserole, only those responsible for it really know what goes in it.” – Anonymous

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

Let me ask you this: Which of those quotes can you use to write your wedding toast for your daughter and son-in-law? It’s not too hard. Just give it a try.

Additionally, you may use this poem to write a memorable conclusion

I want to be your friend
Forever and ever without break or decay.
When the hills are all flat
And the rivers are all dry,
When it lightens and thunders in winter,
When it rains and snows in summer,
When Heaven and Earth mingle
Not 'til then will I part from you.

Don’t forget about your toast too…
